- Naomi comes home to find that all Sheila's garden gnomes have been smashed
No 26
Naomi is clearing up the smashed gnomes from the back yard, when Kyle turns up with Bossy. Naomi claims that Sheila destroyed the gnomes out of frustration at her limited ability to do much after her heart attack, and Kyle seems to buy it. She asks Kyle not to mention it to Sheila in case she does it again, then hurries off inside, leaving him to clean up the mess.
Harold's Store
Chris and Nate are having a coffee when Paul and Lucy come in. It's all quite awkward, but Lucy reveals she's going back to Plan B since Chris decided against being her sperm donor - the anonymous Dane.
CHRIS: The one with the awesome untainted genes.
LUCY: That's him!
Chris wishes her luck with it all, but is surprised when Lucy reveals she has an appointment at the hospital today to begin the procedure. She says she can't afford to waste any more time, and Paul hurries her away from the conversation.
Erinsborough Police Station
Convinced Dimato is behind the gnome carnage, Naomi tells Matt that she wants to withdraw her statement against him, out of concern for Sheila's health since he's clearly targeting her. Matt says Naomi's statement is all they have with which to build a case against Dimato, and says she shouldn't let him win. But when Naomi asks if the police can provide the family with some security to protect Sheila, Matt says it's unlikely due to lack of resources.
NAOMI: Well then I don't have a choice. I'm sorry.
She leaves, and Matt looks frustrated.
The Waterhole
Mark comes in, suffering from a sore shoulder. Georgia, who's at the bar, suggests he should get it checked out, but Mark insists it's okay. He asks Sheila, who's serving, if Naomi's around; she isn't, but Sheila offers to pass on a message. Mark says not to bother, receives a text, and has to rush off. Georgia smiles knowingly as Sheila wonders what Mark wanted Naomi for.
Kyle comes in, and asks how Sheila is. She's just been for a check-up and scan, and Georgia reveals that the blood clot hasn't dissolved as quickly as hoped. Kyle takes this as evidence that Sheila should slow down and take it easy, but she insists she's getting the staff to do all the heavy work. She also reveals she thought of a means of The Waterhole getting one over on Harold's Store during her MRI - a 'dining in the dark' event, with blindfolds and bibs!
Once she's out of earshot, Kyle worries Sheila is doing too much, but Georgia tells him they can't babysit her.
Harold's Store
Nate suggests various activities that he and Chris could do this evening.
CHRIS: Nate, I'm not really in the mood.
NATE: I know. I'm trying to get you there. You must have known Lucy would keep trying.
CHRIS: Yeah. Yeah, I did. But now that it's actually happening, the little world I had mapped out is crumbling. You know, we'd fly over to see them; we'd watch the little dude or dudette take their first steps in Central Park. And then at Christmas time we'd go down to St Kilda beach, then off to The G for the Boxing Day test. All that's gone now. It's all gonna happen without me.
Nate insists that Chris is still Lucy's friend - all that could still happen. But Chris says it's not the same. While he's still confident he made the right decision because of the health risks to the baby, Chris admits that his gut is telling him he's lost his only chance to be a dad.
The Waterhole
Kyle is trying to convince Terese of the need to take him on as a maintenance contractor, but is offering to do it for free, as a way of improving visibility for his business. Terese remarks that an ad in the paper would achieve the same thing, and asks what's really going on. Kyle admits that he wants to hang around the place, so he can keep an eye on Sheila during her recovery. Terese offers to get the other staff to look out for Sheila, but Kyle says that'll just annoy her - he's the only one who can do this. Terese agrees to hire Kyle on an unofficial basis.
Suite 1 Eclipse Apartments
Lucy is on the phone to someone, who delivers some bad news. When Paul turns up, Lucy's in tears. It was the hospital - the sperm sample from the Danish donor didn't survive the thawing process, which means the opportunity for her to get pregnant during this menstrual cycle has gone. Paul does his best to comfort her.
Lassiter's Complex
Mark is still suffering from a sore shoulder when he runs into Naomi, and says he pulled it at work. Naomi is carrying a box of new gnomes for Sheila. Mark admits he knows she's withdrawn her complaint about Dimato, and says Matt's asked him to try and change her mind.
MARK: I told him I wasn't gonna do it. I'm not happy that Dimato's gonna get away with it, but I understand why you couldn't go through with it.
Naomi is surprised but grateful for Mark's support. She flirtatiously tells him that he should come round tonight and use the spa if his shoulder's still giving him grief. He says he might.
The Waterhole
Kyle is doing odd jobs around the bar as Sheila tells Paul about her 'dining in the dark' event idea, selling it as a multisensory experience. Paul thinks it's absurd, saying it would be a health and safety nightmare and that no-one would want to do it.
PAUL: You wouldn't know what's on your plate, or if you even had a plate! No, it's the stupidest idea I've ever heard.
Kyle gets protective of Sheila and tells Paul not to call her stupid. Paul gets uppity and tells Sheila to control her grandson next time he comes in, before leaving. Sheila tells Kyle she doesn't need anyone fighting her battles for her, and asks him to get on with his work - adding that she doesn't know why Terese hired him as they already have a maintenance crew. Kyle claims they're sick!
Suite 1 Eclipse Apartments
Paul's brought Lucy a vanilla slice to cheer her up, but it doesn't help much. She apologises for getting emotional before, and says she's thinking of giving up and going home. She still badly wants a baby, though - and she's starting to think it will never happen. Paul tells her there are other donors, but Lucy says she isn't sure if she can handle any more setbacks.
LUCY: Maybe I'm not meant to be a mum.
PAUL: Oh, of course you are, come on.
LUCY: Why? It's not something everyone automatically gets to experience. The sooner I learn to accept that, the sooner I can move on. I mean, I can have a great life without a baby in it.
PAUL: I'm sorry it didn't work out, Luce.
LUCY: So am I.
The Waterhole
When Kyle starts helping clear up dirty dishes, Sheila starts to become suspicious about why he's really there. While Sheila deals with some customers, Naomi comes in, and asks Kyle if he has seen, or if Sheila has mentioned, anyone suspicious hanging around.
KYLE: Only Paul Robinson.
Sheila comes back from taking some customers' orders to tell Kyle that they think he's the new hot barman, drafted in to replace Andres. When Kyle is eager to start pouring drinks, Sheila tells him that's not his job, and threatens to ring maintenance and find him some real work. Kyle's forced to start admitting the truth about why he's here.
KYLE: Stay calm, alright? I don't want you smashing anything else up.
SHEILA: What are you talking about?
KYLE: Nomes told me what you did to the... gnomes.
Sheila demands that Naomi tell her what's going on.
Shortly afterwards, Naomi has told Sheila the truth about what happened to the gnomes, explaining she withdrew her police complaint about Dimato out of concern for Sheila's health. Sheila tells her not to be such a shrinking violet.
SHEILA: What would your father say if he saw you acting like this?
NAOMI: Mum!
SHEILA: Oh, come on. What would he say?
KYLE and NAOMI: Cannings are made of tough stuff.
SHEILA: Exactly. And that's why you have to march right over to that police station, and resubmit your statement.
NAOMI: Okay, but are you sure, because...?
SHEILA: I am sure there is no negotiation to be had. You go now, quick sticks. And tell Dimato the Cannings are after him.
Naomi goes off to do Sheila's bidding.
SHEILA: And you, Kyle Eugene Canning, hanging around here, treating me like a demented invalid...
But Kyle reminds Sheila she's just had a heart attack, and tells her she needs to take some time off work to recover properly.
KYLE: You don't get it, do you? Gran, I can't lose you. I've lost enough already.
Kyle laments his parents' lack of presence in his life, and Sheila insists she's not going anywhere. She admits she may have been overdoing it, and says she could do with some help with heavy lifting around here - and some eye-candy for the patrons! Kyle agrees to help out.
Lassiter's Complex
Paul is on the phone, trying to cancel his afternoon meetings as he has a 'family matter' to deal with. But there is urgent festival business to attend to, so Paul says he's on his way. Chris is unloading some guests' bags outside the hotel; Paul tells him about Lucy's donor sample not being viable, and tells him she could use a friend once he's finished his shift - adding that she's considering giving up having a baby altogether. Paul thinks she'll regret it further down the line.
Paul says he understands why Chris decided not to risk having a baby with Lucy, but reminds him that he could have kids at any time - whereas Lucy's time is rapidly running out. But then thinking better of his words, Paul tells Chris to ignore him, adding that it might be better if he stays away from Lucy after all.
Outside Grease Monkeys
Mark is fixing a car outside the garage, while across the road at Grease Monkeys, Naomi asks some of Dimato's goons if he is around. One of the goons, credited as Joey Dimato so likely a relative of Dennis, says not; so she hands them a piece of paper to pass on to him.
JOEY: What's that?
NAOMI: It's a bill. He owes me for fifteen garden gnomes.
JOEY: Yeah, right (!)
NAOMI: Oh, it also comes with a message, if you can handle it. You can tell him he is dealing with the whole Canning family now, not just me. And there are a lot of us. Got that? Good.
Naomi goes over to an impressed Mark. She tells him it feels good to stand up to Dimato, and that the spa invitation is still open if he fancies it.
The Waterhole
Sheila is trying to convince Terese to give Kyle a permanent position at The Waterhole, given how popular he's proven with the female punters. Terese says they don't need any more staff, but Sheila reminds her there'll be more footfall at the bar with the festival on the way, and Kyle working nights would make a huge difference.
KYLE: If Gran overdoes it, and she has to take time off, where would you be then?
SHEILA: Experienced bar managers don't just walk in off the street. I am one of a kind.
TERESE: Oh, I'm well aware of that (!)

Terese agrees to put Kyle on the payroll, and Kyle prepares to celebrate - but Sheila reminds him she's his boss now, and that there's work to be done! As she throws a long list of tasks at him, Kyle wonders what he's let himself in for.
No 26
Mark comes round to take Naomi up on her offer of a dip in the spa. She offers him a glass of champagne, and reveals to him that she's resubmitted her statement against Dimato.
MARK: Good for you! So will anyone else be joining our little celebration?
NAOMI: Err, no, it's just going to be you and me. I hope that's okay (!)
MARK: Yeah, sure!
NAOMI: Good. Well then let's go soak that shoulder.
Mark looks pleased with himself as he follows Naomi towards the back door.
Later, Mark and Naomi come back in in their swimming gear; Mark's shoulder is still hurting. Naomi offers to rub some Tiger Balm on it, but he's got a physio appointment tomorrow.
NAOMI: Oh, you can't be in pain all night!
MARK: No, it's fine!
NAOMI: Sit down.
MARK: Yes, ma'am (!)
Mark looks pleased with himself again as he takes a seat, while Naomi goes to the kitchen to retrieve said balm. She looks equally pleased with herself...
