Lassiter's Complex
Some journalists (including Anya) are trying to interview Imogen and Terese storms up to tells them to leave her along. Anya asks Terese about her decision not to increase security.
TERESE: Leave now, or I'll call the security that we DO have in place.
Imogen tells Terese that Paul has made a statement and suggests her mother should take the day off, but she wants to keep moving.
Harold's
Paige asks Brad how Josh is doing, and promises to visit him later. She comments to Lauren that Brad looks stressed, and that Terese is in denial. She says that Terese rang her to ask about Nate. Sonya comes in, and says that both she and Brad look stressed...
Hospital
Sheila has contacted Chris's yia-yia (grandmother), but his parents don't know yet. Georgia and Kyle talk about his family, and Nate looks left out. Georgia notices, and tells him it's important he's there for Chris.
Lassiter's Complex
Josh catches up with Naomi, and tries to apologise. She tells him she doesn't hate him, but that she's too close to Chris and he needs her more. She apologises if her breaking up with him was responsible. He says it was nothing to do with it.
Lauren and Sonya come out of Harold's and see Josh. They are sympathetic, saying that everyone's suffering. They talk about Terese wanting the police to investigate Nate.
LAUREN: Terese is clutching at straws, isn't she?
SONYA: Yes, she is. And she's playing on your guilt to make you do something you're uncomfortable with.
Lauren says that she wishes she could make the situation go away for Terese and that they could get their friendship back.
SONYA: You can't tell the police you suspect Nate if you don't.
Harold's
Terese asks Lauren if she's spoken to Matt.
LAUREN: You have to know how terrible I feel about what your family's going through... but I can't do what you're asking. I cannot lie to the police.
Terese is furious and accuses Lauren of wanting her family to fall apart so that she (Lauren) can steal Brad. Lauren tells her she could not be further from the truth.
Waterhole
Nate tells Susan that he doesn't feel like he belongs at Chris's bedside, because his friends have so much history. Susan says it doesn't matter. Nate then says that the last time he saw Chris, they argued. Terese comes in and asks Nate if he punched Chris. He says no.
TERESE: Because my son seems to think he did this and he's convinced the police too. I mean, they've all but locked him up and thrown the key away. My kind, beautiful, caring son who has his whole future ahead of him.
She leaves sobbing, as Nate sits impassively.
Outside the Waterhole
Terese comes out, upset, followed by an angry Susan, who tells her she had no right to speak to Nate like that. Terese agrees, adding that she shouldn't have asked Lauren to persuade Matt either. Susan is horrified. Terese admits she shouldn't have done it, but says that when details of his background began to emerge...
SUSAN: You listened to gossip and decided that he was a better suspect?
TERESE: I didn't want Josh to accept the blame when there could have been some other explanation. I know that's no excuse.
SUSAN: No, it's not.
Susan tells her that her issues with Lauren are clouding her judgement and she knows what she has to do.
Harold's
Terese tells Lauren she's sorry for using Lauren's guilt to try to pressure her. Lauren says she understands what it's like to want to protect your child. Terese says she can't protect Josh: she can love and support him, but there's nothing else she can do. Lauren says she's Terese's friend, and asks if they can get past their issues. Terese agrees and asks Lauren not to judge Josh too harshly.
Waterhole
Susan tells Nate that Terese had no right to talk to him like that and she's sorry.
NATE: She's not the only one who jumped to conclusions. I trained in the military: I must be violent.
Nate tells Susan about time he was charged for assault, which was when he attacked a fellow officer for uploading videos of himself and an ex-girlfriend. They talk about the future of his relationship with Chris following the assault. Susan says that it's in a crisis that you find out what a relationship is really made of.
Lassiter's complex
Paige catches up with Josh.
PAIGE: I wondered where I could find you.
JOSH: The worst place I could possibly be.
She offers to be there to talk to, since she's an old hand at being someone everybody hates, and her adoptive parents are rich so he can skip town. He doesn't smile, so she guesses (rightly) that he doesn't want a fake alibi.
JOSH: I have to face up to what I've done. I'm in big, big trouble.
Hospital
Nate gets an update on Chris's condition from Georgia - the swelling has gone down and the doctors are going to take him off the sedatives. She offers to be there if he wants to talk. He goes into Chris's room and talks to him. He starts by saying he doesn't know his friends and family, but he does know what he likes to eat and the team he supports.
NATE: And I know when I have bad dreams, you hug me till I go to sleep, so I'm gonna hold your hand until you wake up.
No 22
Brad can't believe what Terese asked Lauren to do, and is relieved to hear that Lauren accepted her apology. They both wish they could go back to the way things were. He says they are going to help Josh any way they can, but they have to play by the rules. They kiss and hug.
Harold's
Lauren tells Matt that she felt that there might be some hope in her friendship with Terese. Sometimes when the worst things happen, you realise what's important.
LAUREN: My friendship with Terese, my marriage to you: I'd like to think there's some hope there as well.
MATT: ...
LAUREN: Aren't you going to say anything?
MATT: I just need more time.
Lauren reminds him there's something else they need to discuss: Amber's engagement. Matt says he can't get his around that. Lauren says he's going to have to. Matt sighs and says he's got things to take care of.
Hospital
Chris wakes up, and asks for Nate who's still holding his hand. Sheila goes to find a doctor.
Ramsay Street
Josh gets a call to say that Chris has woken up, he's talking and he recognises people. Paige says it's great.
PAIGE: Listen, if Chris is OK, that means you'll be OK.
Josh says that if Chris has brain damage... but Paige interrupts and tells him to be positive. They walk up to his drive. Someone has done some graffiti: COWARD PUNCHER HERE
Unmissable drama
- Karl reminds Josh he's been charged with assault, when Josh wants to know if Chris is OK
- Sonya points out to Naomi that she came on to her husband
- Naomi says she'd defend Jarrod even if she wasn't working for him. Sheila asks why.
- Daniel asks Paul about the prospect of romance (with Dakota). Then Paul finds Dakota with Mark.
