Summer deciding to repeat Year 12.
Number 28
Andrew quizzes Summer on her decision to return to school but she is adamant that is what she is doing especially since she can't get a cadetship either despite the numerous phonecalls. Karl gives her the thumbs up too when she tells him and once Andrew leaves (dinner calling) she overwrites her 'Summer Hoyland 2011' label with a 2012 version for her folder.
Number 28 (next day)
Summer has just realised that her dress is covered in graffiti and has no spares either, having given them to the uniform store. Karl suggests telling the school her uniform will be sorted out by the end of the week and reminds her that she does have other options - doing another course or taking a gap year but like with Andrew, Summer is adamant this is the best route to take.
SUMMER: Short term pain for long term gain and I just have to suck it up.
Ramsay Street
Tash calls to apologises to Chris and enquires if he's going to Uni with them - he must be as Tash said he's shouting brekkie. She then quizzes her dad on his "date" since he's throwing a lot of containers for one out but doesn't reply to her taunts and sends her off to Uni. With Tash off, he gets out his phone to call Emilia but ends up leaving a message for her to call him when she can.
Garage
Lucas is taking his frustration out on the tools and his mood isn't helped with Michael coming round asking if he's heard from Emilia. Michael hears the bad (or is it good?!) news that Emilia has dumped Lucas (hence why he's in the bad mood) and offers the standard sympathy line - "I don't know what to say." "It's not your fault," Lucas replies... oh how little he knows!!!
Lassiters Complex
Tash and Chris talk timetables while Andrew sits staring into space. He cheers up though when he spots Summer approaching and Tash can't resist having a dig at Summer about going back to school. Tash changes the subject to try and prise info from Chris about Aidan but he isn't spilling and Sum tells her to quit digging, which just results in Tash rubbing it in even more about Summer going back by telling her its time to leave or she'll be late.
School
Priya is on door duty and quizzes Summer about her not being in uniform. Sum explains she needs to buy one and is told to get one from lost property rather than buy one so she can begin to fit in immediately.
Eden University
Andrew, Tash and Chris sit and chat timetables/courses and plan already to skip classes on day 1! Andrew is not impressed at what he sees as useless courses and is spouting off to what he thinks is a fellow student... who is actually a lecturer! Oops!
School
Michael welcomes Summer to the class and the class numpty (aka Axel) keeps making comments about Summer despite Michael warning him to shut up. Sum decides to come clean with the class over exactly why she is back and Axel can't resist having a dig over the speech she made to them, then pretends to sneeze and instead calls out "cheater" as he does so. Its going to be a long year for Summer as we head into the first commercial break.
Harold's Store
Karl gives Sum a pep-talk when he comes across her hiding out in the store, which she seems to find reassuring, especially when the Axel and his cronies enter the store.
Eden University
Looks like Andrew has enjoyed Owen's lecture as the pair of them chat upon the class finishing. Tash isn't impressed at her class although maybe that is due to the lack of male talent in the class! The duo run into Chris who is having a great day although Andrew lies in his reply back to Sum's text that his day 'sux' too, despite him saying the exact opposite to Chris.
Charlie's
Emilia continues to ignore the voicemail messages Michael has left as Tash joins her, chatting endlessly about her first day at Uni. Tash is after more clothes and thinks getting the money out of Michael will be a doddle as he's in such a good mood just now and let's slip that he is obsessed with his mystery girlfriend. "I'd love it if he got someone," Tash tells her aunt when Emilia wonders if he is keeping quiet in case he doesn't know how Tash might feel.
TASH: As long as she passes a few basic criteria.
EMILIA: Like what?
TASH: No baggage.
EMILIA: Everyone's got a bit of baggage at our age.
TASH: After the year dad's had, I think he needs a fresh start, no drama. What do you think?
Emilia avoids answering the question and instead shouts them drinks to celebrate Tash's first day at Uni. While Tash is at the bar getting their drinks, Emilia calls Michael to ask when they can meet.
Park somewhere
Michael meets up with Emilia and tells her about his chat with Lucas and feels it means they can properly hook up now. He also tells about still having the same feelings for her as he did back then.
EMILIA: Michael that was 15 years ago, a lot has changed.
MICHAEL: Not how I feel about you.
EMILIA: So much has happened and there is so much history and baggage weighing us down. We can't pretend that its not there. (Pause) I'm sorry Michael but I didn't break up with Lucas so I could be with you, I need to... I need time to get my head together.
"I'm sorry," she says to him before getting up and walking away.
School
Lucas calls out to Michael when he gets into school (Priya has changed the timetable hence why Michael didn't know he was coming in) and apologies for his behaviour earlier. Michael tries to reassure Lucas that it wasn't down to him (Lucas thought he was moving too fast and thus scared her off) and suggests that perhaps Emilia has other things going on and that them hooking up just wasn't meant to be.
Classroom
Michael tries to engage his class but they are being rather silent. Summer gives the correct answer to the question but her answer also includes 'fail' which Axel picks up on and taunts Sum by calling her 'Thirteen'.
Charlie's
Andrew, Tash and Chris celebrate their first day with some beers...
School
...While unhappy Summer heads to her locker to find someone has scrawled 'cheater' over it. That "someone" was Axel and surrounded by his cronies, taunts Summer further, so she clears out her locker and grabs her rucksack before taking off.
Charlie's
Sum enters the bar and heads over to where the trio are sitting. She lies that her day was "okay" to Andrew and he replies that his day was boring too. Tash (and Chris) return with nibbles and rubs it further into Summer what she is missing out on by suggesting the three of them go on some fancy dress Uni pub crawl next week before the trio chat about some of the characters they've seen on their first day at Uni.
