This week on Neighbours
- Summer seeking clarification from Sophie.
- Priya unhappy with Michael.
- Emilia late for meeting Lucas.
- Susan peeved at Karl.
Previously on Neighbours
Callum/Kyle doing a deal on the leaflets.
Rhys showing off his 'Erin's retreat' champers to Erin.
Rhys reporting his concerns to Karl.
Erin quitting the surgical programme.
Rhys putting himself forward as Erin's replacement.
Hospital
Karl finally gets hold of Rhys to have a word with him - he's annoyed at Rhys first of all for his treatment of Robbie and Erin and secondly for using him. "You think I'm that low," Rhys has the balls to ask and Karl immediately replies "yes!" Rhys denies it but Karl is going to speak to Jessica regardless, however Rhys pulls him back to put a different side forward - if he'd wanted to dob Erin in himself he could have gone straight to Jessica himself and reminds Karl that when he approached him, he didn't mention any names.
RHYS: If you're feeling guilty because Erin packed it in, don't go projecting that on me.
Lassiters Complex
Susan catches Karl to ask if she can take Audrey for a walk as she hasn't seen her for a while. He is fine with that although does say she doesn't need to ask and to use her keys to get into #28.
As he drinks his coffee, Kate approaches him to enquire how it is as they've just changed the blend. He's fine with it, adding that the stronger coffee is just what he needs just now! As they get chatting, his ears perk up when Kate inadvertently blabs all about how Rhys was stringing Erin along unknown to her.
KATE: Trust me that hospital would be a lot better off without him.
Hospital
Jessica gives Rhys the bad news that he can't join the programme as he's missed important parts of the course. He protests that he has and offers to sit an exam today to prove he knows the work that he has missed. Jessica agrees to his demands and informs him he can sit an exam that afternoon.
JESSICA: If you pass you're in.
RHYS: Thank you, you won't regret it.
Number 26
Kyle hands over the next payment to Callum, happy to do so as he's been inundated with phonecalls. Upon hearing that he's been getting extra business, Callum then extorts more money from Kyle to deliver the leaflets!
Number 30
Susan announces herself before entering the house after what happened in the last episode! Sonya indicates it's safe to enter but then turns down an invite to go for coffee. Instead, she asks if Susan can keep a subtle eye on Callum as she feels they need an extra pair of eyes as both Toadie and herself have been busy working lately. "I'd love to do that," she replies and even volunteers to accompany Callum on his paper round.
Number 26
Kyle and Callum finish putting the 'Dial a Kyle' flyers into the papers but have inadvertently put them into the Ramsay Street papers too! Fearful of getting caught, they are just about to go remove them when Susan enters the house and tells Callum of her plans to accompany him on his round. Cal tries his best to persuade her not to come but Susan is insistent and says she'll wait for him outside.
Thinking quickly, Kyle suggests Cal leaves the Ramsay Street papers so he can remove the flyers and can be delivered later on. Callum thinks Susan will wonder why he's missed the street out but Kyle tells him to figure something out!
Hospital
Karl catches Rhys studying instead of working but Rhys covers saying he is just keeping up to date so he doesn't end up out of touch.
KARL: I should have known you were up to something; it's not in you to be genuinely concerned about another person.
Rhys is bemused by this and Karl fills him in on his conversation with Kate. He tries the 'Kate is just jealous' card but Karl isn't falling for that one and tells him that he's going to be having a word with Jessica before he gets a chance to sit the test!
"You don't understand," Rhys pleads with him and adds that he didn't have a choice. Karl scoffs at that one and Rhys again pleads that he has to get on the programme.
KARL: Yes, if you'd done the right thing, next year you would have. Instead you've put your whole future in jeopardy.
RHYS: Karl, just, just let me explain.
KARL: There is nothing you could say that would explain what you've done.
Rhys then asks Karl what he's doing at lunchtime, he has something to show him. "Please," he begs as we head into the first commercial break.
Rowanoaks Care Facility
Karl wonders where Rhys is taking them and just at that, Rhys leans down to kiss his mum before doing the intros. Mrs Lawson asks Karl for the truth - is Rhys as busy a doctor since he tries to make out to her that he isn't despite being on the surgical programme! Karl doesn't drop Rhys in it and instead enquires about Mrs Lawson's condition. She explains that she has spinal degeneration, which she's had since Rhys was 14 but apparently went downhill when he was in Year 12. "I am so proud of him," she boasts and Karl nods appreciatively just as the tea arrives.
Number 28
Susan is surprised that Audrey doesn't come running when she enters and says that magical word dogs normally love - walkies! Instead, she goes over to check on her and after a quick affectionate rub of the fur, leaves her sitting in her basket before leaving, a bit concerned about the little pooch.
Ramsay Street
Susan reports to Callum that Audrey isn't in the mood for walkies so it's just them two. She also picks up that he wasn't planning on delivering the Ramsay Street papers, so despite his protestations that he delivers them last, removes some from his bike and starts putting them into the respective mail boxes.
Callum isn't one for being defeated though and convinces Susan to be with Audrey if she's sick and as she heads back into #28, he scurries round removing the flyers from the papers... only to be sprung when Susan happens to turn round. She doesn't say anything though, instead turns to the #28 front door.
Rowanoaks Care Facility
The trio continue chatting and Rhys brings up taking his mum to see a film (the film festival is on) and won't hear of her taking a maxitaxi to the cinema, he'll work an early shift so he can collect her himself. Mrs Lawson again thinks her son will be too tired to do that but Karl doesn't drop him in it however does diplomatically remain silent when she asks if Rhys has a girlfriend. Rhys announces its time for them to head back to the hospital and after kissing her goodbye, the duo begin walking off.
"A strong woman," Karl remarks as they set off and reminds Rhys that even if he's the best surgeon ever he won't be able to fix her condition. "I know," Rhys replies but adds that perhaps he can the next one and pleads with Karl to let him show how good he can be. Karl admits he has his sympathy but isn't impressed he's ruined other peoples careers in the process just so his dream can be achieved.
Lassiters Complex
Paul runs into Kate and quizzes her if she fancies a change in career to office management as a vacancy has arisen at the paper and wondered if she'd be interested. She turns the offer down and signals that she doesn't want the chat to continue, partially because she is busy and heads off inside with a full tray of dirty dishes.
Susan spots Karl and tells him that Audrey doesn't seem herself. He thinks it's more to do with them splitting and the dog picking up on things but when Susan begins quizzing him, remarks that he hopes it isn't going to turn into a custody battle! Susan denies his suggestion but isn't buying him saying the dog is just getting old although he is happy enough for her to take Audrey to the vet's tomorrow.
KARL: Be my guest but you'll be wasting your money.
SUSAN: That's alright, we'll go halves!
Hospital
Rhys waits patiently for Jessica to turn up with his exam. He spots Karl lurking and asks if he's said anything. Karl confirms he hasn't and isn't sure if he will when Rhys asks if he will. "Please let me sit the test," he pleads seconds before Jessica enters the room and hands Rhys the paper with instructions that he's got 1 hour to sit it.
Outside in the corridor, Jessica quizzes Karl about Rhys and sensing he's holding something back asks directly if he should be on the programme. After thinking for a moment, Karl replies to her question.
KARL: Rhys lacks perspective... and maturity. One day I think he'll make a very good surgeon but if he has to wait a year to get on that programme I think he'll learn some valuable lessons.
JESSICA: Mmm, interesting.
She thanks Karl for his honesty before walking away.
Number 30
Susan tries to wriggle it out of Callum about the flyers in the paper (when there were none scheduled) and he counteracts by suggesting she's confused!
SUSAN: Do you think I was born yesterday?!
Cal doesn't get a chance to answer that as Sonya arrives home but can sense something is up however Susan doesn't drop Cal in it, instead brings up that Audrey may be sick. Sonya volunteers to go check on the dog once she's had a cuppa and while she's away switching on the kettle, Susan goes over to have a quiet word with Callum!
SUSAN: If you're up to something I will find out!
CALLUM: I'm not up to anything.
SUSAN: Good. Then you've nothing to worry about...
Number 26
Cal is worried enough to immediately head over to #26 and tell Kyle that he thinks Susan knows and is onto him adding that she is now watching him like a hawk! "It's only Susan," Kyle nonchalantly replies but Cal is fearful of the repercussions if she tells Paul. Cal wants the $40 a week upped, now calling it danger money! "No way," Kyle informs him but just as Cal is about to leave shouts out that he will think about it.
Hospital
Rhys drops into Karl's office after he finishes the exam to thank him although Karl adds that there is no need for him to do that. He then says that although interesting to meet his mum, it didn't change his mind - his recommendation to Jessica is still that he tries again next year but does add that he thinks that one day Rhys will make an excellent surgeon once he gets some maturity under his belt!
Karl wonders if what he said was amusing because Rhys has a big smile on his face and begins to go off on one about him not being able to handle constructive criticism.
KARL: You've got a lot of growing up to do.
RHYS: Well I guess I'll have to do it fast then seeing as Jessica's just put me in the programme.
Karl is almost aghast to hear him say that as we head into the final commercial break.
Charlie's veranda
Kate ignores a call from Paul just as Rhys approaches and asks one of the silent employees for a bottle of champers. He tells her to cheer up, he's celebrating but she tries to put a damper on it but saying that they will soon figure out what he is really like! Rhys has a dig at her for trying to ruin everyone else's life when her life is such a mess.
KATE: You should really take a long look in the mirror.
RHYS: I do, every day! And I see someone who's not afraid to go after what he wants.
Kate just looks at him inquisitively but Rhys is on a roll now and continues.
RHYS: I was angry before but now I feel sorry for you. You've got no proper job, no prospects and you're sitting in a bar all by yourself.
KATE: Go to hell.
The silent employee returns with the champers but Rhys decides instead to leave Kate the champers so she can share it with all her friends before walking away leaving her stewing away.
