Number 26
Kyle and Jade are having a bit of a tiff about various domestic-y things like how Kyle should buy his own milk if he doesn't like Jade's "weird" milk. And how Kyle shouldn't walk around the house clad in a towel. Rhys walks in and asks if Jade is up for soccer but she's busy with clients. Kyle can tell that Jade is being weird after he asked her out and she knocked him back but she claims that she really is busy. She offers to try to reschedule her bookings, though.

Number 30
Callum arrives home from school and he doesn't want to go to the Kennedys for dinner because his friend Felix is going to his brother's house...and his brother has an unlimited download plan. Cal broaches the subject of Sonya's parents and she shows him some photos. He comments on how nice they look and Sonya tears up a little so Callum gives her a hug.

SONYA: What's that for?
CALLUM: I had a spare one, and it looked like you could use it.

Charlie's
Jade has accompanied Rhys to Charlie's to grab some coffees because she needed to get out of the house. Rhys talks about wanting to do some weights for definition but Jade is barely paying attention as she's making eyes at Mal who is eating alone across the room.

JADE: You know you should get him to play.
RHYS: (laughs) Hardly looks like Harry Kewell.
JADE: His name's Mal. Malcolm...Kennedy.
RHYS: Yeah?
JADE: Yeah, you know he's a pretty good guy. Never know, might be an asset.

The ever ambitious Rhys goes to introduce himself and invite Mal to their casual soccer match. Mal glances at Jade and accepts the offer.

Number 28
Susan arrives home with groceries and Karl is annoyed because he said that he would cook and he's already preparing dinner. Susan leaves him to it.

Sports Ground
The match is about to start and Jade unzips her jacket to reveal a crop top whilst announcing her team is "Skins". The guys in the background start taking their shirts off too. The match is underway and whilst trying to get the ball from Mal, Jade bumps into him and they fall together with Jade landing on top of him. They laugh and look quite comfortable but poor Kyle is upset.

Number 30
Toadie comes home from a dry day of council meetings. He and Sonya discuss Brennan but go all weird when Callum walks into the room. Callum is all suss at why nobody has Brennan's contact but Toad eventually says that Brennan is in Sydney doing something confidential. Toad distracts him by asking him to put some apps on the Mac he got from work although Callum still looks suspicious.

Harold's Store
Sure enough, Callum has the Mac on and is searching on "The Search Engine" for information on Mark. He comes up empty though. Kate gives him the cake that Toadie and Sonya ordered and Cal takes the opportunity to ask if she's spoken to Brennan. She tells him that she hasn't and makes a quick exit.

Number 28
Everyone is enjoying a delicious roast dinner.

SONYA: These mushrooms are fantastic, Susan, you'll have to give me the recipe.
SUSAN: Actually, Karl cooked them; and the roast.
TOADIE: Wow! You're gonna have to leave him more often if he's gonna come up with food like this!

Toad and Sonya laugh. Karl and Susan do not.

TOADIE: Uh, that was a joke.

Karl nods to Susan that it's probably a good time to break the news. Toadie is concerned that Susan is having health problems again but she assures him that their health is fine. Karl and Susan tell them about the separation and Toadie is very taken aback.

Number 28/Charlie's
Later, Susan and Toadie are talking alone and Toadie is confused about the separation; he wants to know why it's come to that because they've had problems before but they had always sorted them out.

SUSAN: This is a new stage of life for Karl and for me. It's the chance to have new experiences; to do all the things we've dreamed of. I just...I don't know if we want the same things. Before I start off on the next stage of my life, I want to find out who I am. What I want.
TOADIE: And you can't do that with Karl?
SUSAN: I just don't think it's fair. I feel as though I'm forcing him to wait for me so I'm calling all the shots. I've got too much respect for him, too much love for him, to do that.
TOADIE: But he would wait for you; he loves you.
SUSAN: Karl was the one who suggested that we separate. And I was shocked by the idea at first. Now I feel as though it is the right thing to do.

We cut a few times during the exchange to Charlie's, where Karl is having a drink alone. The soccer crew are back and Mal spots his father. He walks over and checks that Karl is OK and Karl gives him the A- OK and tells Mal to go hang out with his friends. Mal watches his father sadly exit Charlie's.

Number 28
Karl returns home and the moon is full. Karl asks Susan how Toadie is and Susan says that he should be OK. She's happy that they were able to tell Toadie together and that they can talk like adults. She takes hold of his hand.

SUSAN: I don't want to lose you, Karl. I want you in my life. You're my best friend.

Karl wordlessly removes his hand and goes to leave, but stops and turns back.

KARL: I can't be your friend. I don't want to be your friend. I can't put up with united front. We're separated, Susan. It's just too hard. I'm going to look in other areas for a place to live.

He tears up and Susan nods through her own tears.

Number 30
Toadie arrives home still downcast at Susan and Karl's news. He doesn't know what to do and Sonya suggests that he just be there for them.

Charlie's
Rhys, Kyle and Jade are talking about soccer while Mal is over at the bar talking to the bartender. Jade and Mal are exchanging looks so she quickly makes an exit. Rhys approaches Kyle and asks him what the deal is with Jade. Kyle is initially reluctant to share but Rhys is not blind and has noticed the tension. Kyle confesses that he had a "friends with benefits" arrangement with Jade and he wanted more but she was not keen. Kyle laments that she's not the easy- to- work- out chick that he initially thought.

Number 30
Sonya is ironing when Callum comes out the Mac. He wants to show her (and Toadie, if he hadn't already gone to bed) that he can't find anything on Brennan. Anything at all. As if he's vanished completely into thin air. Cal is convinced that it's a huge undercover op or conspiracy and Brennan is overseas doing something big. Sonya can't stand it any longer and starts crying and gives a confused Callum a hug.

Later, Sonya's told a shocked Callum about Brennan's apparent death.

SONYA: Your dad found out. He was told not to tell anyone.

Clearly that part hasn't gone so well. Sonya makes Callum promise not to tell anyone, not even Sophie. Callum says that he's OK as he starts crying.
