Erinsborough High
At the meeting, Toadie says the development is a needed change. He emphasises that he has a family in Erinsborough and he wants to do what's best for his family. Paul asks why he's supporting a development which will destroy local businesses. Toadie says this will draw more people into the area, which will make Erinsborough more attractive and property prices will increase. Sonya quietly enters the meeting. Paul says Toadie isn't reassuring anyone, and Michael and Kyle agree with him. Paul points to Sonya.
PAUL: Okay, how can a small nursery or a landscaping business compete with a mega- hardware or a gardening supercentre? I bet that makes for interesting pillow talk at night.
Toadie says their businesses are the life blood of the community and we need to keep them, but Paul says Toadie's contradicting himself. Toadie says new jobs are needed for the next generation. Paul says the development is a con and accuses Toadie of trying to sugar coat it. Paul gets a round of applause.
(Later)
After the meeting, Michael sends Summer back to class. Toadie thanks Ajay for coming, who says the council will be in touch with their decision. Kyle approaches Sonya and Toadie, telling Sonya she sold out. Kyle understands that Toadie is doing his job, but says Sonya's making a choice. Sonya apologises but Kyle won't accept it and walks off. Toadie tries to talk to Peter, but Peter tells him they'll talk later and walks off.
Number 26
Jade returns home, while Rhys is in the kitchen on the phone. Jade puts some bread in the toaster, but realises there are no plates. She's appalled that Rhys hasn't done the dishes, she tries to tell him off but he ignores her. She plants the cleaning roster in front of him but he ignores it too. Rhys is too busy asking to observe a surgery next week. Jade takes the slice of toast in her hand, and without a knife smears the stick of butter onto her toast before eating it.
(After some pointless random shots from around Melbourne, we're back at Number 26)
Jade comes back into the kitchen, and questions Rhys when he'll clean the dishes. He says he'll get around to it later as he's busy working. Rhys offers to do her chores and bathroom next week if she does his chores this week, she refuses. Kyle enters in a bad mood, when Jade asks what's wrong she tells her to ask her sister. Jade orders Rhys to do the dishes and slams the door.
Number 30
Sonya gets Toadie a cup of tea. Toadie's waiting for Peter to call, and says he wasn't prepared after Peter threw him back into the meeting. Sonya doesn't want Toadie to lose his job, although Toadie thinks Peter will be rethinking his contract after today. Sonya says Toadie did well. He apologises that Sonya got caught up in this and asks how she'll deal with Kyle. She hopes he'll understand.
SONYA: Don't worry about me, we're in this together.
Lassiter's Complex
Paul meets Toadie calling him a wolf in sheep's clothing. Paul asks why Toadie kept it secret, and says he's surprised as Toadie usually supports the underdog. Toadie says the development has a good chance of getting through, and that Paul is just scared of competition.
Number 26
Jade stares at the pile of dishes and takes out her blender which is filthy. She tries to tell Rhys off while he's on the phone to Martin Chambers, thanking him for the opportunity he's been given.
Charlie's
Paul brings Toadie a document, and asks Toadie why the firm picked him to be their front man. Paul says he was talking to Tim Collins, and Tim got a document from Simmons & Colbert a few months ago, which Paul then shows Toadie. Toadie says these things happen all the time. Paul tells Toadie the firm only hired Toadie because of his community ties and council contacts.
PAUL: It was a fishing expedition, and you're the mug who took the bait, hook, line and sinker. I'd watch my back if I were you Jarrod, after today's little performance, they might just throw you back.
Lassiter's Complex
Toadie leaves Charlie's and leaves an answer machine message with Peter. Kyle walks past, sees Toadie and blanks him as he enters Harold's.
Harold's
Sonya sees Kyle entering and approaches him. She offers him a coffee and apologises, Kyle thought they were mates and feels betrayed. He calls her selfish. Meanwhile, Toadie waits outside for his phone to ring. Sonya offers to help Kyle, and tries to convince Kyle that the development will be good for their businesses. Kyle says Sonya will be alright because this development will make Toadie rich, whereas Kyle will go out of business and owe Lou thousands.
Lassiter's Complex
Toadie goes to his old office and tries the door which is locked; the sign on the door says 'For Lease.'
Number 24
Jade moans to Kate about Rhys, while Kate wanders in and out doing the ironing. Kate just tells Jade to either do the dishes or sort it out with Rhys. Jade asks Kate what she would do if Sophie was behaving like this; Kate says she would take something of Sophie's to get her attention.
Number 26
Jade and Kate return to the house to get revenge on Rhys, having a look around for something they can take. Kate finds Rhys's ironed shirt hanging up in the kitchen. Jade grabs it and puts it inside the dirty blender, getting it soaking wet and filthy.
(Some more pointless random shots from elsewhere in Melbourne, before returning to Number 26)
Rhys enters shirtless, still on the phone, asking Aidan to cover his shift as he's going to be a bit late as he has an interview with Martin. Rhys finds the dirty shirt, and calls for Jade.
RHYS: Of all the petty, small minded, vindictive...
JADE: Hey buddy, if only you'd done what you were supposed to do
RHYS: Hang on; you did this because I didn't do the washing up?
Rhys explains that he's been making contacts all morning and he has an interview. Jade stands up for her and Kyle's jobs saying they're just as demanding as being a doctor, Rhys calls her juvenile and tells her to wash and iron her shirt. Jade says only once he's done the dishes.
Charlie's
Paul's on the phone telling someone he met at the meeting to keep the pressure up on the development. Peter arrives and joins Toadie, explaining he's been in meetings all day. Toadie asks Peter if he only hired him for his contacts, Peter admits it was one of the considerations, but it wasn't the only reason, and the firm wouldn't hire him if he wasn't up to it. Peter says he should have more faith in himself. He says Toadie did well today, and shows Toadie that the development went through. They have a celebratory drink.
(Later)
Peter says goodbye to Toadie. Paul hears the news that the development went through, he goes over to Toadie and says he's just signed a death warrant for Lassiters. Toadie says to object to council if he needs to. Paul threatens Toadie.
PAUL: Don't cross me, because you'll be the one who ends up losing.
