- Susan needing time apart from Karl
- Sonya finding out Jade has feelings for Kyle
- Kyle and Jade hooking up on the sly
- Michelle blurting out their secret to Lucas and Sonya
Number 26
Sonya has stuck around to try and get the truth out of her sister, but Jade keeps protesting that Michelle's insane and a liar. Sonya's worried because she doesn't want Jade to get hurt, but Jade says that there's nothing going on with Kyle so her feelings are well and truly intact.
Number 28
Summer's studying with Andrew at the table while Karl leaves a message on Mal's voicemail. Summer's heart breaks when she hears how desperate Karl is for news on how Susan's doing and how much he misses her. Karl's hopeful that Mal and Susan might be home in time for dinner, but it's not looking likely.
Number 26
Jade tells Kyle they need to do some damage control thanks to Michelle's blabbermouth. Jade thinks they might be giving off a weird vibe when they're together so she suggests they spend time apart outside of the house doing their own thing. Kyle smirkingly asks if they can still do stuff together when they're inside the house and Jade can't help smiling and saying yes.
Harold's Store
Kyle asks Kate if she wants to hang out and play darts later but Kate says she's working until closing. Rhys walks in to get a drink and Kyle hails him as a hero for getting rid of Michelle. Rhys then invites Kyle to play soccer with him and some mates and the boys engage in some 'I'm more athletic than you' banter.
Number 28
Andrew notices how distracted Summer is about Karl's melancholy mood and says it's not her problem, but Summer just wishes there was something she could do to make him feel better. Andrew thinks she could ask Karl for help with her homework, but Summer says he'll see right through that. Andrew comes up with another idea that could work, "there is something you could do with a fair bit of help with."
Later on, Summer finds Karl sorting through the Tupperware cupboard and puts her plan into motion. She mentions that she spoke to Zeke recently and they got talking about driving lessons, and how Karl was a good teacher. Summer says that she hasn't driven much since her Nan left and asks Karl to become her instructor. Karl agrees and Summer convinces him to start ASAP.
Park
Kyle's getting ready to play when he notices Jade rock up in her sports gear. Turns out this was the favour Rhys was after for acting as a realtor. They argue about who gets to stay before Rhys interrupts them to start the game. Jade nominates herself to be a captain and deliberately avoids picking Kyle for her team, choosing Dani, the nurse from the hospital, instead.
First Commercial Break
Park
Kate walks by as everyone's playing and notices Kyle fake a stitch so he doesn't have to tackle Jade while she's got the ball. Half time is called and Rhys tells Kyle he needs to step up his game. Kate catches up with Jade and says she knows her and Kyle are trying to avoid one another so people don't think there's something going on. Jade figures out that Lucas has been in Kate's ear, but it turns out Kate doesn't believe Michelle's story, citing her as a unreliable source.
Number 28
Summer may be regretting her 'distract Karl' plan because Karl's way of teaching is to use every implement in the house to re- enact road rules. Right now the sticky tape and the phone are nearly having a collision along cutlery road. Summer thinks they should head outside and practice in the car, but Karl doesn't think she's ready for that yet - not when there's the Tupperware roundabout to conquer.
Charlie's Bar
Jade berates Kyle for tackling every other player on the ground except for her; it just made things more obvious. Kyle reckons they should just tell everyone the truth, but Jade makes up some story about not wanting to spill all the details to Kate who'll want to have a 'girly chat' about it all. Jade adds that they just have to wait for things to die down and then there'll be something else to gossip about. They shut up when the rest of the soccer players file in for a drink.
Jade asks Kate if she's going to join them next week for a game but Kate says she still feels weird around Rhys. Speaking of, Rhys comes over to chat to them and says they're welcome to play anytime. Jade smiles - until she sees that Kyle and Dani are heading off to grab some pizza together. Kate jokes that Kyle's a fast worker and Jade just smiles, trying her best not to look crestfallen.
Second Commercial Break
Number 30
Sonya can tell that Jade's acting strangely when she pops around for a visit and Jade finally admits that she's been sleeping with Kyle. Sonya's disappointed, but only because she can see how hurt her sister is (especially with the Dani news). Jade says she thought her feelings would magically disappear if she got the whole Kyle thing out of her system, but it's just made matters worse. Sonya gives her sister a comforting hug.
Number 28
Summer endures an online road test that Karl's reading out and manages to get nearly all the questions right. Karl concedes that Summer's probably ready to get behind the wheel of a car. They hit a slight setback when Karl realises that Susan took the car with her, but Summer says they can borrow Andrew's for a lesson.
Ramsay Street
Karl attempts to guide Summer through the basics, and Summer attempts to drive without bunny hopping everywhere. They end up taking a break when Andrew stops by to jokingly heckle his girlfriend. Summer tells Karl she was thinking about cooking him dinner to say thank you for all the help today, but Karl says she should spend some time with Andrew.
Number 28/Anglesea Hotel
Karl's ecstatic when Mal finally rings back, but his good mood disappears when Mal has to break the news to his dad that Susan isn't coming home anytime soon. She says she needs more time away from home. Karl's face crumples and you can hear the thick emotion in his voice when he tries to put on a stoic front for Mal.
Third Commercial Break
Number 28
There's no lonelier sight than that of Karl heating up a microwave dinner for one in the darkened kitchen. He stares at the pitiful excuse for a meal before heading over to the couch - where he promptly breaks down into loud sobs. Summer arrives home and her heart goes out to him, but she doesn't want to intrude so she sneaks away into her room.
Later that evening, Karl puts on a normal facade when he notices that Summer is in the house. Summer says she had fun today with the driving lesson and organises another one with him soon. Before she heads off to bed, Summer gives Karl a quick hug, wordlessly letting him know she's there for him if he needs her.
