Previously on Neighbours

- Susan asking for Jim's pain meds to be increased.
- Michelle smashing an ornament after Lucas breaks up with her.
Number 26
Michelle is wailing away when Jade returns home and her plan to creep into her room unnoticed fails when a squeaky floorboard gives her presence away so she's forced to talk to Michelle. Jade is more concerned at the dolphin being smashed than at Michelle being dumped by Lucas! Michelle begs Jade to help her get back with Lucas but she isn't keen on that happening although she does promise to have a word with him!
Hospital
Susan is sitting by Jim's beside as he sleeps when Karl and Aidan come in. He asks her to step outside to allow Aidan to do Jim's obs.
Outside in the corridor, she quizzes Karl on how long Jim has got left but he can't give her anything quantitative. She admits to him that she feels she's let Jim down on two things - her promise to take him to his childhood home in Anglesea and that he wouldn't die in hospital. "Hospital is the best place for him," Karl reassures her with, even though she doesn't agree. He then suggests that she should take a break but Susan refuses, she wants to stay and indeed heads back into his room just as Aidan is finishing up.
(Later)
Rhys drops by to check with Karl how Jim is going, he's deteriorating, and that he will take over being Jim's doctor again but Karl rejects the offer because he promised Susan he'd care for him until the end.
RHYS: It will be over soon.
KARL: Don't know about that.
The audience know what Karl was really meaning but not Rhys.
Garage
Jade roughly pulls Lucas from underneath the car he is working on wanting to know why he thought Michelle was fine. She then brings him up to speed and about her smashing the dolphin.
LUCAS: She's a nut job.
Jade totally agrees and orders Lucas to sort it out. He doesn't think it's his problem any more and reminds her too he was following instructions! "Please just talk to her," she begs but he is holding strong and suggests she waits it out instead.
LUCAS: I'm out and I'm staying out. I dodged that bullet.
Number 26
Jade returns to #26 and lies to Michelle that Lucas is just as upset as she is but seconds later suggests that she starts to accept what has happened and move on. All this does is cause her to get upset again, not helped by Kyle coming into the livingroom and joking around until he asks what is going on. Jade tries to be subtle with him, giving hand signals, but that doesn't work so it's Michelle who tells him... and he does his best to keep the smile off his face!
Kyle tries to do a runner but instead literally gets dragged through to the kitchen... and no, much to his distain it isn't to do the nasty with Jade! She demands he goes through to comfort Michelle but he point blankly refuses however can see light at the end of the tunnel - it means they can now get rid of her! He does concede to it not happening straight away though (especially as Michelle turns on the tears again) but can predict when she'll be over Lucas so they can tell her to jog on... half the time they went out.
JADE: Where did you hear that?
KYLE: Sex in the city.
No he isn't a closet fan; it's his mum who is the fan! Jade does the maths and the answer is Michelle will be over Lucas in one week.
KYLE: One week and we're sweet!
JADE: One week and she's gone.
Jade then mutters "maybe less," but doesn't expand when Kyle asks her.
(Later)
"Now it's giving me grief," Kyle remarks on hearing Michelle's 'grief music' in the livingroom - its part of Jade's suggestion to her to get her through the grief process quicker!
KYLE: You can't push someone through a process. That's why it's a process.
JADE: Sex in the City?
KYLE: No, Dr Phil!
Jade thinks processes are for wimps and both are relieved to hear the music finally stop. Michelle bawls out if they have chocolate and Jade hands her over Kyle's secret stash after convincing him that they can get rid of her in 1 day since she's progressing quickly through the process. The music starts up again and he thinks the plan is failing but Jade explains that the new style of music is just the anger coming out.
JADE: She'll be over Lucas in no time and then she'll be out of here!
Kyle just sits and shakes his head at her proclamation!
Hospital
Jim is relieved that Susan is still beside him when he wakes up and asks her for chips, then begins reminiscing about a chipper in Anglesea that used to make them just right. With renewed determination, he begins nodding his head and Susan declares that she is taking him to Anglesea she did make a promise to him after all.
JIM: Susan, just be with me.
SUSAN: You know I will. Let's go!
Hospital
Commercial break later and Susan re- enters Jim's room with a wheelchair and she helps him into it after reminding him not to call her 'Suze'! Aidan springs them and she lies, saying that they are just going to go to the garden. He does think there is something suss going on but Susan convinces him that its genuine, and even that it was Karl who suggested the garden visit, so he helps get Jim ready.
Number 26
The duo are relived at the silence in the house and Jade thinks she is totally over Lucas now, although Kyle has his doubts... after all the formula has been proven! As if to prove her right, Michelle comes out of her room and acts as if nothing has happened, even going so far as to apologise for how she behaved earlier before thanking (and hugging Jade) for looking after her.
Michelle sends them out of the kitchen to allow her to make dinner, and Jade takes this as another sign that she is fine but Kyle just thinks she is psycho!
KYLE: You saw how cut she was. No- one calms down that quickly unless they are a psycho.
JADE: Well maybe Michelle is different?
KYLE: Yeah, she's different alright! Look, if we stuff the timing up on this she'll totally lose it and then we'll never get rid of her.
Jade just thinks he is being paranoid and gives him the heads up - if she is fine through dinner then they are doing it!
Hospital exterior
Jim asks Susan to stop so he can listen to the sounds but that momentarily stop has allowed Karl to find them! "What the hell are you doing?" he asks them and she nonchalantly replies that Jim just wanted some fresh air but Karl wasn't born yesterday and knows exactly where they were headed.
KARL: Are you insane?! You can't just take a patient out of the hospital without permission.
SUSAN: I had Jim's permission. He doesn't want to be stuck in a hospital room.
Karl ignores his wife and signals a passing nurse to help him get Jim back inside.
KARL: Susan, look at him. He needs proper care and attention.
Susan doesn't reply and he just shakes his head at her before moving inside.
Hospital (inside)
The random nurse and Karl wheel Jim back into the ward and gets Aidan to assist her in getting him into bed. He then blocks Susan's entry into the room to explain why he stopped them going but she doesn't think that, reminding Karl that Jim doesn't want to die in a hospital bed. "No- one does," he replies before going on to say that he probably wouldn't even have survived the journey there thus he'd die in a car in the middle of nowhere with nobody around to help either of them.
KARL: Is that what you want?
SUSAN: No, I want to help him. I want the last few hours of his life to mean something.
KARL: You are just not thinking clearly.
SUSAN: You don't know him like I do.
Half laughing, "no, that's obvious," and Susan demands to know "what's that supposed to mean?" but Karl doesn't want to engage in any conversation and instead walks away. This annoys her and they end up on one of the offices having a domestic although Karl takes offence at her suggesting he is taking it out on Jim.
KARL: How dare you. HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF BEING UNPROFESSIONAL? I have given Jim Dolan the very best possible care all the while while watching you. You're holding him, and you're kissing him, you're comforting him like he's the only person in your world.
SUSAN: What?!
KARL: I saw you.
The penny then drops for Susan as we head into the next commercial break.
Number 26
After a successful main course, Michelle gets the vibes that Jade and Kyle are unhappy... but gets the wrong end of the stick! She thinks it's because dessert isn't out rather than the fact that Jade wants to kick her out now but Kyle wants to wait.
Taking the bull by the horns, and ignoring Kyle, Jade bluntly tells her that they want her to move out. "What?" Michelle says and Jade explains that she feels it isn't working out having her as a housemate. Kyle backs Jade up and offers to help her find another place but she turns round and bluntly says "no."
MICHELLE: My name is on this lease, my clothes are in that wardrobe, my things are in that room.
JADE and KYLE: ...
MICHELLE: My life is in this house, I'm not going anywhere.
She then gets up and leaves the table but returns seconds later to take away the trifle she made for dessert - they ain't getting any of it!
Kyle just looks at Jade and she doesn't need him to say anything.
Hospital
Susan and Karl continue on the domestic from earlier as tries to explain the kiss - she was simply comforting a dying man.
SUSAN: It was an emotional moment; I was just showing him compassion. I can't believe you'd think it was anything else.
As far as Karl is concerned, this is just another example of Susan not being able to see things objectively. She twists this round in suggesting Karl has been behaving like a jealous schoolboy culminating in him being negligent in his treatment of Jim by not giving him painkillers and for refusing to let her taking Jim out earlier.
KARL: That's not true and it's just not fair.
SUSAN: Isn't it?
KARL: No it is not. You can blame me for a lot of things, you cannot question my professionalism.
Susan goes to walk out of the room, telling him that she can't deal with this now. Karl chases after her and stands in her way of entering Jim's room. In hushed tones, she tells him that she is sick of this and that Jim needs her so is going to be with him. Equally in hushed tones although half the hospital seems to be listening in, he replies that he is sick of it too of being put second.
SUSAN: Jim is dying.
KARL: Yes and our marriage is falling apart. (Susan scoffs) We are going to talk about it right now.
Karl asks Rhys to check on Jim while he and Susan head for their chat!
Hospital exterior
Susan doesn't want them to have this conversation now - Jim won't know where she is. He begs her for five minutes so she can hear him out.
Hospital (interior)
As 'Sleep in Peace' by Matthew Barber begins, Rhys enters Jim's room and checks his drip. He pauses to at the sleeping Jim before going to pick up his chart.
Hospital exterior
The song continues in the background as we return outside to hear express his concerns for Susan showing the care and attention she is lavishing on a virtual stranger.
KARL: Susan I know that Jim needs you but what happens when he's gone? Who'll be next? 'Cos I'm pretty sure it won't be me.
Hospital (interior)
Rhys sits in the chair watching him and Jim comes to, holding his hand out for Susan to take hold of but of course she isn't there. Rhys grips Jim's hand and tries to reassure him as his breathing becomes more laboured.
Hospital exterior
Susan confirms to Karl that she gets what he is getting on at but then adds that right now she needs to be with Jim and turns about and heads back inside leaving Karl standing there.
Hospital (interior)
"Just let me go to sleep in peace," the lyrics of the song say and Jim literally does that. Rhys seems shocked when it happens (he was holding his hand) as we head into the final commercial break.
Hospital (interior)
A shell- shocked Rhys exits Jim's room and wordlessly signals to Aidan that Jim has died. Susan (and Karl) return and Rhys prevents her from going straight into the room.
RHYS: Jim passed away a few minutes ago. I'm sorry for your loss.
Susan is utterly shell- shocked at not being there and angrily turns round to look at her husband as he moves in to try and console her.
SUSAN: I wasn't there.
With tears in her eyes, she leaves it at that (although I think he gets the message!) and swiftly moves into Jim's room.
Rhys tries to talk to Karl but he looks just as shell- shocked, broken even, and asks Rhys to give him a minute and goes over to sit on the bench as the episode finishes with the lyrics saying, "Just let me go to sleep in peace."
