Recap
- Kate fancying the pants off Det. Mark Brennan
- Michael and Declan talking about Rebecca.
- Declan packing bags to join Rebecca in Oakey.
- Paul threatening to call the police.
Ramsay Street
Declan packs bags into the boot of his shiny car. He looks up at the house.
Number 22
Paul stands at the window watching Declan. He twiddles his wedding ring and then sits down to plot his next move.
Ramsay Street
Dec is about to get in the car when Susan greets him. She just heard that Rebecca went to Oakey, had she known she'd have said goodbye. Dec says it was a last minute thing. Susan thinks it's good she's having a break - it's been a rough year! But then, Rebecca is a tough cookie, Susan doesn't know how she does it, she wasn't sure if she and Paul were going to make it, however, you never know what goes on behind closed doors. People probably said the same thing about her and Karl.
This all gives Declan pause for thought.
Number 26
Paul is pulling his annoyed "things aren't going my way" face. His ears prick up when he hears Declan start up his car engine.
Ramsay Streetp
Paul comes out and tells Declan that it doesn't have to be like this. He asks if he really wants to see his mother go to jail. Declan asks Paul whether he really wants to keep her here by threatening her? Declan is going. Paul tells him that Det. Brennan will be at the house by 3pm, if he's not back by then, he'll tell him everything.
DECLAN: Let her go, Paul.
PAUL: Three O'clock.
Charlie's
Mark apologises to Kate for having to cancel their plans, he's just got back to back meetings all afternoon. Kate understands and says they'll just have to make it a take away lunch - he can't solve crimes hungry! Kate is interested to hear what all his meetings are about, but when Mark is with her, he'd rather just be with her rather than think about work.
KATE: So you like to keep things separate then?
MARK: Problem is, five minutes with you isn't enough. So I was wondering....maybe this evening?
KATE: Maybe this evening what?
MARK: We could see each other.
KATE: Ooo...yeah, I might be busy.
MARK: Tough.
They kiss.
Harold's
Donna surmises that as Toadie is buying chick peas (or similar) the move must have gone well. They share a laugh and then Donna rejoins Kate to prise gossip out of her. Donna is excited by the conversation Kate and Mark had in Charlie's and is eager to find out when they're meeting. Kate suddenly realises that neither of them suggested a time. It's time for Donna to get Kate organised.
DONNA: You do want to have dinner with him, right?
KATE: Yeah. And....maybe dessert as well....
DONNA: OH MY GOD!!
Donna doesn't know what Kate's waiting for, she should go and tell him now, then she can help her get ready. She dashes off leaving her latte undrunk.
Police Station
Another police officer shows Kate into Mark's office and gives him an "aw, mate, score!" sort of look. Kate tells him that they forgot to set a time to meet and suggests 8pm at her place. Mark wonders whether this means that he'll get to meet her little sister, who she's been keeping secret. Kate says that Sophie won't be in. Detective Hot Stuff looks like he's a man who is eagerly anticipating dessert. I think Kate should make bread and butter pudding, myself.
Roadside
Declan has got himself all worked up. It's 2.35 and he's not sure what to do. He remembers what Susan said. He calls Rebecca and leaves a voicemail telling her that she really needs to call him, he's on the road, but Paul is meeting with Brennan. He doesn't know what to do. He just needs to talk to her. As he gets back in the car, Rebecca calls him. He is relieved.
Number 22
It's 2.58 as we take time to peruse the Robinson family photos, including one of Donna and Ringo's wedding. Aw. Paul is still hoping that Declan will return. There's a knock at the door, but it's not Declan (who would presumably just let himself in) but it's actually Mark. Paul tries to stall for time, but they have to get on. Paul tells Det. Brennan that he's been getting flashes of what happened on the mezzanine. He says it's all pretty fuzzy, but he definitely remembers Diana leaving and he's certain that she hadn't come back. Paul distractedly looks at the door as Brennan presses him to see if he remembers who actually pushed him.
PAUL: It's a bit vague, and I can't be exactly sure, but I think....
Declan comes in. How fortuitous for all involved. Except Diana. He and Paul exchange looks and Paul says that he doesn't know who pushed him. Brennan seems to think that now they can rule out Diana, they can restart the case and let the DPP know. He sees himself out.
DECLAN: What have you done?

Number 22
Declan can't believe Paul would be so stupid! Paul tells him that he did warn him and he forced his hand. Declan tells him that he spoke to Rebecca and she begged him to return because she thought Paul was going to say that he did it.
DECLAN: I told her I'd confess if she could finally leave you. Luckily for you that's not what she wants.
Paul says that if they keep their mouths shut everything will be fine. Declan isn't so sure if Mark is going to re- interview everyone. He thinks Paul should go back to Brennan and take it back.
PAUL: Come on you saw him, he's already suspicious, if I start changing my story now it's going to make things worse.
DECLAN: And what happens when mum gets dragged down for questioning again? You know she's going to crack.
PAUL: I will fix it.
DECLAN: You'd better.
Number 24
Donna asks Kate what she's going to wear for her date. Kate thinks she looks nice in what she's wearing. Donna agrees, but thinks she needs to get her sexy on. Sophie comes in and says that in that case she should wear her peach dress because she looks hot in it. She asks what's going on. Donna tells her that Kate has a date with Mark and needs the house to herself.
SOPHIE: But I want to meet him!
DONNA: I was thinking you and I could hang out at the Kennedys for the night.
SOPHIE : The night? (Realisation dawns) Uhhh! Too much information! Will Zeke be there?
Donna wonders why she's interested, Sophie bluffs that he's got a new game she wants to check out. She asks Kate what she's going to do about Lucas and Lou. Donna suggests Kate call them and tell them not to come home tonight. Hmm, helpful. Imagine telling Lou that you need the house to yourself to get your sexy on with Det. Hot Stuff. Eww! Anyway, Donna is more interested in hair, makeup and ambiance. Kate already has a plan. She has some candles in a dinner for two style, and she was also thinking about champagne. Donna goes very quiet, but agrees that sounds nice. Kate senses something is up.
DONNA: Candles, champagne? What's not to love.
Police Station
The policeman announcer officer dude, credited as Constable Lee Davis tells Brennan he's a popular man today. Paul walks in. He's come to apologise for wasting his time earlier, since the fall his memory has been so scrambled, he gets strange dreams and then everything just blurs. He'd hate them to rule Diana out based on his foggy brain. Brennan tells him to rest assured that they won't be ruling anyone out just yet, but he did seem pretty adamant earlier. Paul just doesn't want to dredge it all back up for his family and waste police time just on a hunch. Brennan says it's out of his hands now anyway. He seems a little suspicious of Paul and, let's face it, rightly so.
Paul takes out his wallet, places it on the desk and suggests that there must be something that Brennan can do. He really doesn't want to put his family through any more.
BRENNAN: It might be stressful Mr Robinson, but we want to find the person who made an attempt on your life. I'm sure you and your family want the same. I think you dropped something. We'll be in touch.
Wow, for a clever and cunning man, Paul, that was really stupid.

Number 24
Kate is ready and has the table set beautifully. Donna has tidied the hallway and the bathroom and stops dead when she sees the table.
DONNA: Er, it's perfect good to go. I really love your hair like that. Can you tell Sophie to meet me at the Kennedys'?
She quickly makes her way to the door. Kate stops her, wanting to know what's wrong. With tears in her eyes Donna explains that the night Ringo died, she was the one getting all the candles ready and seeing Kate all dressed up and hopeful made her remember and made her feel sad. Brushing tears away she apologises and tells Kate to forget she was here, she looks beautiful. And with that Donna leaves.
Number 28
Donna answers the door. Sophie barges through and tells her not to blame her, "she" (I.e Kate who is following in trackies) insisted. Kate has trashy DVDs and cake so girl time can commence. Donna wants to know what about Brennan, she's fine, Kate can't just ditch him. Sophie agrees. Kate thinks that girl time is more important so she's staying for afternoon tea. (In fairness afternoon tea is waaaay before 8pm, surely there's time for both? No?)
Donna refuses to let Kate have any cake. There's no need for her to cancel her date because she got upset over some candles, she should never have said anything. Kate is upset that she made Donna cry.
DONNA: Everything makes me cry!
Kate doesn't think she could enjoy her date knowing Donna is sad.
SOPHIE: You guys know this is the most ridiculous fight ever, right?
DONNA: (To Kate)Before you go pointing your fork at me again can I just say something? Of course the candles made me think of Ringo, but I'd rather be thinking of him than not thinking of him.
She tells her best friend that seeing her in love and happy makes her happy, so she'd really like Kat to go and have a great night. They hug. Sophie is glad they've finally seen sense.
Later on Donna is clearing away cake and looking rather down again. Susan comes in and asks whether she has any idea why Sophie is alphabetising Zeke's CD collection (I'd have thought he'd already have it done). Susan realises that Donna needs a chat and invites her to sit down. She explains what happened and knows it's stupid and selfish of her, she wants Kate to be happy. Susan tells her it is neither stupid not selfish, of course it's going to be painful.
SUSAN: I know it doesn't seem like it now, but in time all the memories you have will become happy ones. You'll start to remember all the good things, like how much you loved Ringo and how much he loved you and how lucky we all are that he was part of our lives.
DONNA: We are very lucky.
Susan gives her a hug. Good old Suze.
Lassiters Complex
Kate is dashing around with a shopping list when she quite literally runs into Mark. He picks up her shopping list of chocolates, strawberries and champagne and gets even more excited about their rendez vous that evening. He looks at her trackies and asks if that's what she'll be wearing because she looks pretty cute. They flirt and kiss more. Flippin' heck guys, calm yourselves!

Charlie's
Declan is outraged that Paul tried to bribe Brennan. Paul comments that it has worked with others.
DECLAN: Well done Paul!
PAUL: Well I don't see you helping.
DECLAN: I'm not the one who messed up. What are you going to do now? You have no idea do you? Why can't you just admit defeat and let mum go?
Kate walks in and Paul watches her as she goes to the bar to order a bottle of champagne. Paul asks Dec if Kate is still seeing Mark. Dec tells him to forget it, Kate is barely talking to him as it is.
PAUL: Declan this is your mum we're trying to save here.
DECLAN: And it's your mess Paul. You fix it!
RandomToadie walks in and he and Kate joke around at the bar discussing which non alcoholic drinks go really well with Tofu.
TOADIE: (To the bartender) I'm going to ask you a question and I want you to refrain from laughing at me...
Lassiters Complex
On the way out of the bar Paul accosts Kate, he needs her to do something for him. He tells her that Mark has reactivated the case and he needs to find out what the police know. Kate tells him she doesn't want to get involved. Paul reminds her that she is involved and they're going to start reinterviewing people. He asks her to do it for her family. Paul sees Brennan and begs Kate just to talk to him and find out what he knows, before he darts away. Mark rounds the corner and greets Kate, who is severely flustered by the whole thing.
