Number 30
Toadie tells Sonya that there is no other way. Sonya reminds him that Steph told him not to go there. He can't just ambush her in court with this. It won't be fine because he'll be bringing up painful and personal stuff in front of a crowd of people.
SONYA: This is stuff that shouldn't be messed with ever.
TOADIE: Stuff that could help win the case. I've got to look at the bigger picture here, and that is keeping Steph out of prison.
As he speaks we get a shot of Steph cuddled up with a sleeping Charlie on the sofa. Speaking of sleeping Charlie's, Steph has been blamed for more than her fair share of deaths hasn't she. Charlie Snr, Bridget, Ringo...nearly Libby...
Sonya asks what if it makes things worse. Toadie is convinced that it can't. Sonya hopes he's right.
Number 28
Susan is on the phone to Libby. She reports that everything is fine and Steph seems to be coping. Karl rolls his eyes. Susan tells her daughter to take her time, she needs all her energy for court. She sends her love to Ben and hangs up. She tries to remain chirpy, but Karl is annoyed and isn't in the mood for scrambled eggs or a bacon sandwich. He wants to know why Libby is delaying coming home. She's avoiding him and she's avoiding the situation because she knows what she's doing is wrong. Susan tells him to stop, she said she'd think about it while she's away.
KARL: Well she's clearly doing that. The fact that she's too afraid to come home speaks volumes!
SUSAN: Can you tell it to Libby?
KARL: Well I would if she were here!
SUSAN: I just wish you would SHUT UP! Er...hi love.
DONNA: Morning.
Donna senses she's come in at a bad time, but doesn't care as long as they're all happy by lunch time because she's holding a street barbeque. Karl and Susan don't look convinced that it's a great idea.

Harold's
Donna drags Paul into the store. She wants money for stuff for a barbeque and she wants him to help cook. He thought she didn't want to know him anymore. Donna reasons that she can't be mad at everyone for fighting if she's still mad with him. If he does this he's on probation. He's not so sure it's a good idea though, considering the whole street is practically at war. Donna hopes it will bring everyone back together again.
Andrew comes in, and due to my erratic and backwards method of summarising it feels like I haven't summarised him for ages. Hi Andrew! He heads over to see if Tash wants to join him. She tells him she's busy so he walks off again. Tash is annoyed.
TASH: I'm playing hard to get you idiot!
Donna tells Kate and Declan about the street barbeque and they say they'll be there. Donna suggests Kate brings Mark Brennan along. Kate and Declan both tense up. Donna thinks they both need to get over this. Dec thought things hadn't worked out between them. Donna tells her to try again. Awkwaaaard!
Number 26
Charlie has finished his breakfast. He's a big boy now. Steph agrees and comments that he's starting to grow out of a lot of his clothes, they'll need to make a list and do a big shop. He needs to go and get ready for a trip up to the farm with Lyn to see Oscar. Toadie comes in, Steph tells him that Libby is staying with Ben another night. Toadie thinks her testimony will be tomorrow and they'll need all the ammo they have since she won't let him call Doug to the stand. He asks her to reconsider as it's the best advice he can give her as her lawyer.
STEPH: I know you're my lawyer, but you're my friend first and I need you to respect what I want.
Toadie is telling this as her friend too, evidence of post natal depression could really sway the jury. Steph says they're not going to hear it. She goes to check on Charlie while Toadie answers his phone. It's Doug. He tells him that it's all systems go. Hmm.
Court
Steph want to know what Doug is doing at there. He thought he'd better get there early and touch base before things began. Steph tells him he has to go. She lets rip at Toadie for lying to her. Sam watches curiously.
TOADIE: This is for your own good, I promise.
STEPH: Stuff you!
She storms off. Toadie chases after her accompanied by snide remarks from Sam.
Outside Toadie tells Steph that she can't leave her own trial. She tells him to get rid of Doug or she'll fire him. Toadie reiterates that he's doing this to stop her going to prison, for her, for her mum, for Charlie and Summer. He knows he can get the jury on side. Steph is sure that Sam will tear her to shreds.
STEPH: She'll paint me as a terrible mother who abandoned her baby.
TOADIE: I know.
STEPH: And you don't think the jury will hate me for that?
TOADIE: No, not when they know what's behind it.
STEPH: I think they will. I know they will. I do!
Toadie tells her that any attack from Sam will seem cruel. Doug is a strong witness, she just has to trust that he's right.

Court
The judge asks Sam if she has any idea where her learned colleague is. Just as Sam is feigning ignorance, Toadie and Steph arrive. Toadie calls Dr Doug Harris to the stand and begins questioning him. When Toadie asks when Doug discovered Steph was suffering from post- natal depression, Sam is surprised by this information. Doug believes that Steph started experiencing the symptoms of depression right after the birth of the baby, two months ago and long before the accident. In his opinion the depression could easily have contributed to the accident, as it can easily impair judgement. The jury look interested.
Number 28
Kate is chopping onions. Declan tells her to cut them thicker as they're going on the barbeque. Kate is clearly still rather tetchy with Declan. He says he's only trying to help.
KATE: What, by dictating what I can and can't do?
Donna comes in with salads and senses there's a problem. Kate says it's just the onions and takes them outside. Donna isn't convinced. Karl and Susan come in and Karl wants to know what Paul is doing there. Donna says that he just wanted to apologise for yesterday. She thinks it would be nice if Karl apologised too, because he did kind of pick a fight with him. Susan is enjoying this.
PAUL: I realised I might have gone about things the wrong way, but that doesn't mean I didn't have good intensions.
KARL: That's you saying sorry?
PAUL: (Shrugs)
KARL: Ok, well I suppose I shouldn't have lost my temper although I thought it was justifiable at the time.
DONNA: Is that it? Well, I suppose it's better than nothing but I do expect to see you getting along at lunch time thank you, so you'll be cooking together! Yay!
Paul picks up a large knife and wonders what he can slice up. Karl picks up a spatula, perhaps in preparation for a defence?
Ramsay Street
Kate and Declan are still at odds about Kate's relationship with Det. Mark Brennan. Donna wants to know what's going on. She gets that they maybe don't want to speak to her about it, but she won't have their issues ruining the barbeque so she suggests they go inside and thrash things out until they've come to some sort of compromise or whatever.
Number 28
Karl is looking for Tabasco. Susan is going to find out what's happening with the case so she can keep Libby updated. Karl says she'll be updated enough when she finally gets herself back to Erinsborough. Susan wonders what part of Donna's barbeque theme her husband didn't understand.
Number 22
Kate tells Declan that she can't take any more lying or pretending. Dec assures her it will get easier. Oh well that's just dandy isn't it? Kate also sees how ridiculous that statement is and says that she'd like to be able to tell her best friend what's wrong, but she can't. Declan points out that she's not the only one affected by this. Kate can't feel sorry for him he knew all along that Rebecca pushed Paul and he still made her lie to the police about it.
DECLAN: I was trying to protect my...
KATE: Trying to protect your mum, I get that! But where was my protection Declan? You didn't even think, you didn't even care! And Paul is still lying and the police still think it was Diana and it's still one giant ugly mess that I wish you'd never got me into! I'll keep your secret Declan, I have no choice. But I hate everything about this. And I hate you for making me go along with it.
DECLAN: You don't mean that.
KATE: You bet I do.
Ramsay Street
Tash tries to get Andrew's attention by unbuttoning her shirt a bit more and bending over. Subtle. Andrew is fairly oblivious though. Things are cooking well and Karl and Paul are getting along sort of ish. Declan catches up with Kate and apologises for having dragged her into all of this, but he did it for his mum and now he has to stick by that. For the record, he hates himself too.
Steph and Toadie pull into the street. Everything becomes nice and awkward. Donna smiles and waves. Steph manages a little wave back.
Number 30
Steph wonders what the barbeque is in aid of, Susan explains that Donna is trying to get people to mend some fences. Susan asks how things went and they tell her about Doug and that he was great. They're just waiting for the cross examination after lunch, which could get a bit ugly. Sonya and Steph go to get some lunch and Susan asks Toadie how important Libby's testimony is in the grand scheme of things. Toadie says that as the last person to see Steph before the accident, it's vital. Toad wonders whether there's something wrong . Susan just says that there's a bit of tension at home and she doesn't want the family to suffer any undue pressure. Toadie says that as Libby has made her statement, it's important that she can back it up in court.
Ramsay Street
It's not exactly a happening street party with just about everyone sitting at different tables. Tash decides to eat inside and, still playing hard to get, refuses Andrew's friendly offer of company. Donna realises she was a bit daft to think the Barbie would fix everything. Kate says that it's kind of worked for her - she and Declan aren't back together, but it's good that she's not hating him anymore. Donna thanks Paul for what he's done today, but reminds him he's still on probation, so no messing around. Paul gets a call from Sam who reports that things are a bit of a disaster since Toadie called Doug to confirm Steph's post- natal depression. Tearing her illness apart isn't going to win any favours with the jury, his evidence is pretty compelling. Paul tells Sam to find a way to undermine Doug.
Court
Sam questions Doug further about the nature of Steph's illness and the fact that it wasn't diagnosed before the accident. She asks whether it would also account for Steph giving her baby away. Doug says it would absolutely explain her actions. Toadie isn't sure where Sam's going with this line of questioning. Sam asks Doug to remind the court of his relationship with Steph. He knew her professionally, but didn't he also know her socially? He agrees that yes, Steph was best friends with Libby who he was seeing and yes, he's still on good terms with Libby. Sam suggests that he is more involved with the case than the defence has led them to believe.
SAM: Dr Harris, would it be fair to say that your social connection to the case completely compromises your professional opinion on the severity and the timing of her depression.
DOUG: No.
SAM: And that it's possible that when she gave her baby away she knew exactly what she was doing?
DOUG: I don't think that's right.
SAM: And that she also knew what she was doing when she got on that motorbike? And killed an innocent young man.
TOADIE: Your honour, please!
SAM: And that your diagnosis of post- natal depression after she kills this man, could be seen to be just a little too convenient.
JUDGE: That's enough Ms Fitzgerald.
SAM: I've finished your honour.
STEPH: You promised me it would be alright. I trusted you!
