This week on Neighbours
- Chris telling Summer to admit to Andrew she likes him.
- Lucas saying that Rebecca needs some fun.
- Karl and Susan arguing.
- Paul trying to advise Donna.
- Kate adamant on what she saw.
- Toadie warning Kate that he's going to hit her with everything he's got.
Previously on Neighbours
Declan begging Kate to lie to the police on behalf of Rebecca.
Kate giving Det. Brannan her statement.
Paul promising Sam if she needs anything he will provide it because he wants Steph to serve maximum jail time.
Harold's Store
Toadie reassures Lyn and Steph that Sam has been put back in her box as they enter the store. However things take a twist when Steph sees the newspaper headlines despite Summer's valiant attempt to prevent that happening (Drunk drivers must pay).
Number 22
Sam is impressed with Paul's article but remarks that despite it being good, it still won't get them the maximum sentence. Paul then says he isn't finished yet; he has a PI doing some more digging.
They then receive an unwelcome visitor - Toadie who is not amused at the newspaper article and isn't surprised to see that Sam is working with Paul. Toad asks what Donna thinks of it, so Sam twists it by mentioning that she would want justice done... which gives Paul an idea for tomorrow's paper!
TOADIE: Steph is not going to jail, I'm going to make sure of that.
Paul thinks otherwise especially given he's going to go for the jugular with coverage in the paper.
Harold's Store
Karl and Susan have been reading the article too and he remarks that they should send it to Libby! He doesn't get a chance to (although Susan was already vetoing that one) when Lyn pinches his paper so it can join the others Sonya has collected too, to be placed in the bin. Lyn isn't amused at Kate putting them on sale either and plans that the paper won't be sold from the store for at least the next week!
Donna comes into the store (and confirms to Lyn she's seen the paper) and volunteers to help Kate out so she can keep herself busy. In the kitchen, she opens up to Kate that yes she too wants to scream in Steph's face but adds that she also hates Lyn (for running out of cupcakes), herself (for liking them), Ringo (for going off to get some) and Declan too (for having a car)... and everyone else on the face of the earth but that still doesn't mean he will be back so wants something else to talk about! "What like boys and clothes," Kate asks and that gets a smile out of Donna.
So Donna begins with boys, and asks Kate how it's going with Declan but she'd rather they began with clothes! Kate makes it clear that she's over Declan and its time to move on and Donna literally takes those words and begins to find her someone to date! After a few "no way's" from Kate at some of the punters in the store, when Det. Brennan enters (he's in casual clothes) Donna pounces on him (she doesn't know who he is) because he is so cute and takes his order. Kate isn't exactly happy at how Donna has used her but does seem happy to see Donna with a genuine smile on her face.
Lassiters Complex
Kate prepares herself to cycle to the hospital with the cupcakes when Det. Brennan exits the store and points out she hasn't done the strap on her cycle helmet and didn't want her to get stopped by the police. She thanks him and as she takes off, you can see him starting to look at her in a non- police suspect way!
Ramsay Street
Steph finds more copies of the paper as she patches up the front garden of #26. She immediately puts it in the bin but as soon as she does that, Paul comes over to gloat about his article and how the public agree with his headline too. He offers her a right of reply and already has the title picked out - 'Getting away with it' and 'How I'm still out in my front garden while Ringo is dead'. Out of frustration, she throws the bucket of soil over Paul but he just gloats at her that she "makes it so easy".
And today's trip down memory lane is to 1989 and Henry Ramsay doing a spot of DJing.
Number 26
Toadie isn't impressed with Steph's actions as we return from the commercial break. Lyn and Summer are firmly on Steph's side and Lyn remarks that she'd have drowned Paul! Toad explains to them that this is just the start of Paul's campaign and its going to get worse. Sonya asks what the game plan is and Toadie's suggestion is for Steph to change her plea so they can try to get the charge reduced and thus get a suspended sentence instead of jail time. Lyn is immediately against the idea and Sum points out he said he'd get Steph totally off. "A lot has happened since yesterday," he replies and genuinely feels this is the right direction to take. He adds that he wants to arrange a meeting with Sam, to sound her out, and Steph hesitantly gives her permission and promises him to stay away from Paul.
SUMMER: Its going to be alright isn't it Toad?
TOADIE: (long pause) Leave it with me.
Harold's Store
Donna comes across another copy of the paper and asks Kate to throw it into the bin. Kate remarks that Paul is certainly stirring things up and even Donna wants to go throw it in his face! After ignoring another call from Paul, Donna goes back onto her new campaign to get Kate a boyfriend and quizzes her again on Det. Brennan.
Lassiters Complex
As the girls exit the store, they run into Karl and Susan who tempt Donna with the delights of some homemade scones and she's happy to go with them because Det. Brennan is at the other side of the complex and she points Kate in his direction with the parting comment of "don't get yourself arrested!"
Mark apologises to Kate for earlier, he didn't mean for it to sound like he was having a go and they go back to the beginning with proper introductions.
Law offices
Toadie shows Sam into his offices and sounds her out about Steph pleading guilty instead to the charge of dangerous driving but she isn't having it. As she makes her way out of the offices, he points out that she doesn't have enough evidence to prove the culpable driving charge but she smirks a "I'll be in touch" comment before closing the door.
Charlie's
Paul leaves another voicemail message to Donna as he enters the bar. As Steph is thanking her "supporters" (Lyn, Toadie, Sonya and Summer) for standing by her, Paul saunters over and they suddenly decide to relocate elsewhere!
Meanwhile, we find the real reason for Paul's visit to the bar - to collect evidence on Steph from the PI he engaged and it must be good because he immediately phones Sam to tell her she now has the ammunition she was after.
Number 28
Paul finally catches up with Donna who isn't amused at him using the paper to start a war with the neighbours, especially since Ringo wouldn't have wanted it. Surprising, Karl is very much on Paul's side over the article but Donna makes it clear she doesn't like what he is doing, despite Paul trying to explain that he is doing this for her.
Harold's Store
Mark gives Kate a hand as she re- stocks the shelves. The two of them chat for a bit before he invites Kate out for dinner. She is gobsmacked and is looking for a distraction, which the newly arrived Donna temporarily creates, before she eventually turns down his invitation. Mark leaves and Donna gives Kate a hard time for turning down the date but despite the pressure Donna is putting her under, Kate sticks to her guns - she's not going out with him.
Law offices
Sam throws a spanner in Toadie's plan when she gloats to him about the affidavit she has in her hands (the driver Steph narrowly avoided when she left the motel) which proves that Steph was unfit to drive therefore she is guilty of the culpable driving charge. "I'll see you in court," is Sam's parting comment to him before leaving the offices.
(Later)
Final commercial break later and Toadie is going through the evidence and from his exasperated looks, he knows he's going to struggle. He then picks up Kate's statement and stares at it.
Harold's Store
Toadie comes in to try and talk to Kate about the accident given she was an eye- witness. Lyn agrees to her having time off work but Kate doesn't want to go, and when Lyn pushes her for some sort of explanation, she blurts out it's because Steph killed Ringo and has ruined Donna's life. "This is all Steph's fault," she tells her gobsmacked boss. A stunned Lyn then tells Kate to get out, she can no longer work at the store. Toadie isn't amused, telling her that their best chance [of keeping Steph out of jail] has just walked out the store.
