Recap
- Steph getting her driver's licence suspended
- Lucas surprised to hear Steph wants to return to work
- Callum wondering why Sophie's so Zeke- crazy
- Michael asking Ruby to stay in Australia
Charlie's Bar
Natasha and Poppy are watching Michael and Ruby as they talk things over at the bar. Poppy's excited for her cousin but Natasha's worried her dad's going to end up hurt all over again. This turns out to be true when Ruby decides to head home to the UK - she really likes Michael but can't just abandon her whole life. Michael pretends he's OK and says he would have kicked himself if he didn't ask, but Ruby smiles and reminds him the day's not over yet.
Number 32 - Next Morning
Poppy arrives, looking for her cousin, but Natasha says she thought Ruby and Michael were with her. Turns out Michael and Ruby pulled an all- nighter at the beach. Natasha's grossed out until she realises that Ruby's heading back home. They organise a goodbye lunch for later.
Charlie's Bar
Lucas does a grotty Lou Carpenter- style laugh when he hears what Michael got up to last night with Ruby. Michael says it was "worth it" but changes the subject and asks Lucas about work, surprised to learn about Steph's imminent return.
Harold's Store
Summer asks if Steph's truly ready to go back to the garage, but Steph says she just wants to keep busy. Summer jokes that Steph could help her with her homework, but Steph says she'll pass.
Charlie's Bar
Michael wonders if things might be weird between Lucas and Steph but Lucas says they leave all personal issues out of the garage. Michael doesn't believe him but Lucas is just looking forward to have someone helping him again.
Harold's Store
Summer's happy to hear that Steph has a counselling session today and offers to come along, but Steph smiles and says she can manage on her own. Summer knows she's being a worry- wart but it's just because she loves Steph.
Erinsborough High
Natasha's stoked when she sees her dad putting up fliers for a school social (that she mocked up and slipped into her dad's briefcase). Michael thinks it's a great idea but he's just made one amendment - he's including the juniors as well as the seniors. Summer makes a joke about watching the Year 7s dance together but Sophie and Callum both say they wouldn't be caught dead at a dance even if you paid them.
Michael calls for hush in the Year 7 classroom and Sophie's heart nearly explodes when Zeke walks in to make an announcement. He's chairing the social committee and needs a volunteer from each year level. Callum cracks jokes about how that's not going to happen but looks confused when Sophie happily volunteers.
Garage
A guy drops off his car and gives the keys to Steph. She looks uneasy until Lucas offers to drive the car into the garage if she'll catalogue the spare parts that have come in. Steph asks if she could get onto it after her counselling session and Lucas agrees, not realising she's planning on walking to the hospital. Embarrassed, Steph admits that she can't afford a cab so Lucas says he'll drive her - it'll be quicker for both of them and she can always walk back if she wants. Lucas calls out to someone in the caryard that he'll be back in ten.
Erinsborough Hospital
Steph tells Lucas that he doesn't have to stay with her but he says he'll go once she's been called in. After a few moments silence Lucas says he hates waiting rooms - unless he's waiting to have a root canal. Steph says she'd rather a root canal than counselling, "this whole 'talking about my feelings' just isn't my thing". Steph says that Sonya told her to take it one step at a time. Lucas smiles and says Sonya once told him the same thing. A nurse calls Steph in for her appointment and Lucas reminds her to walk slow and she'll be fine.
Garage
Steph returns from her counselling session and admits to Lucas that it wasn't too bad. She gets to work on a car and starts to ask questions about it but Lucas has become distracted by an email.
Hey Lucas,
I've been stewing over the whole Steph coming back to work thing and I've decided that it's not on. I know you're going to say that I'm just doing this because I'm angry for Donna, and I am. I'm also thinking of the business and whether people will want to deal with Steph at all. She's a liability that we just can't afford. I'm sorry Lucas but I need you to let Steph go.
Elle
Steph asks if Lucas is OK and he lies and says that the budgets are doing his head in, but this email has really knocked him for six.
Today's nostalgia photo is of Dorothy, Toby and Tom Merrick from 1993.
First Commercial Break
Erinsborough High
Michael is on his mobile with Ruby when Lucas corners him for a chat. He starts to ask Michael about bringing more teachers on for the VET course but eventually confesses about Elle's email. He just wants to find another job for Steph. Michael feels bad for him but says that the school can't afford it. Lucas then offers his job to Steph, reminding Mike she's a hard worker, but Michael says he'd never get the idea past the school board.
Later in the day Natasha is haranguing Zeke about what *she* wants at the school dance. Sophie is eavesdropping and is pleased when Zeke dismisses Natasha's idea about dumping the juniors from the social committee. Callum creeps up behind Sophie and teases her about wanting to hang out with Zeke - that's the only reason why she wants to be on the committee. Sophie denies this accusation.
SOPHIE: I've got some ideas, I thought Zeke might want some help.
CALLUM: (mocking) Zeke! I've got some Zeke ideas Zeke! What if we Zeke some Zekes and then Zeke can Zeke it with Zeke?
Sophie grabs her books and storms away from him.
CALLUM: (casual) So I'll see you after Geography yeah?
Harold's Store
Natasha and Poppy grab some food for the plane trip while Michael and Ruby have a goodbye pash- a- thon. Poppy hugs Natasha and Ruby swaps a last look with Michael before they head out with their backpacks. Noticing how sad her dad is, Natasha offers to chat about the school social to take his mind off things but Michael just says he'll see her back at school.
Erinsborough High
Callum can't understand why Sophie's ignoring him so she tells him she's sick of him bagging her out all the time. Callum reminds her that's how they roll, but Sophie says he's being a jerk. She walks off to find Summer and ask her what actually happens at a social. Summer says that people just basically dance and hang out. Sophie wonders if there's anything else, like traditions, but Natasha interrupts and says that's more of a Deb thing (NO! DO NOT MENTION THE D WORD). Callum asks if he can have a chat with Soph but Natasha blocks him and says Sophie's busy.
Charlie's Bar
Lucas gets off the phone with someone from another garage and explains to Michael that no one wants to take Steph on. Michael says that Lucas has done everything he could but Lucas is still determined to fix things.
LUCAS: I've already screwed up once.
MICHAEL: What are you talking about?
LUCAS: I should have gone to the motel, talked to her, then she wouldn't have ridden off.
MICHAEL: You didn't know where she was, mate. You didn't put her on that bike then and you didn't decide to fire her now.
LUCAS: That sounds like a lot of things I didn't do. But I'm going to do something now.
MICHAEL: Yeah, like what?
LUCAS: I can't find Steph a new job but I can find a way to make sure she keeps the one she's got.
Second Commercial Break
Number 24
Lucas is sorting through paperwork when Natasha stops by looking for Sophie. He tells Natasha that he's thinking about applying for a loan to buy out Elle from the garage. Natasha tells him she's a maths genius and spends five seconds looking at his statements before letting him know a loan's out of the question. The other important point of this scene is to see the very awesome hamburger pillow on the couch. I want one.
Harold's Store
Summer tries to convince Sophie that she shouldn't be forced into taking all of Natasha's social ideas onboard. Sum asks what Sophie's ideas are and Sophie says she just wants it to be good. Callum walks in and opts to sit with Steph (who is reading a print- out of something) when Sophie gives him the stink- eye. He asks Steph why chicks are so weird and why Zeke is suddenly Sophie's best friend all of a sudden. Steph gets a smile on her face and says that Sophie might "like" like Zeke. Callum is extremely grossed out by this thought. Steph suggests Callum ease up on paying Sophie out or else their friendship might be in trouble.
Erinsborough High
Michael and Zeke call for some shush so they can get the social committee under way. Zeke wants to confirm the Year 7 rep and Sophie raises her hand, but then Callum suddenly barges in and says he's interested too.
SOPHIE: What are you doing?!
CALLUM: Saving our friendship, trust me.
SOPHIE: You're not saving it you're wrecking it.
Michael reminds them they need to make a choice but both Callum and Sophie are adament they're the right candidate for the job.
Number 24
Michael stops by to see if Lucas's day got any better than his.
MICHAEL: War's broken out over the social committee and I just got a goodbye text from Ruby at the airport. All in all - pretty average day.
Lucas says that everything he's tried for Steph has fallen through. He even tried calling Elle but it was one of the shortest conversations he's ever had. Lucas realises he's going to have to fire Steph; he's never had to fire anyone before in his life. Michael suggests he make it quick and just tell her the truth.
Third Commercial Break
Number 26
Lucas hovers on the doorstep, only delaying the inevitable. But when Steph lets him inside she says she has something to tell him first. She's had a think about it and decided that she's not ready to go back to work, so she resigns. Steph hates the thought of leaving Lucas in the lurch but it's the best thing for her. Lucas asks how she's going to pay her court bills but Steph says she'll find another job soon enough. Although Lucas is saddened to hear this he's also relieved that he didn't have to fire one of his best mates. When Lucas leaves, though, we see that Steph has a copy of Elle's email to Lucas - she's fallen on her own sword to protect him.
