This week on Neighbours
For 25 years you've watched the families of Ramsay Street.
They've loved, they've lied but they've always been there for each other.
This is the countdown to the event that will blow one family apart
- Paul telling Declan he's pathetic.
- Declan taking his frustrations out on the contents of a table.
- Declan telling his mum that their family is a car crash.
- Declan warning his mum.
- Rebecca tearful.
- Paul annoyed that he is being destroyed.
- Andrew pleading with his dad that he saved his empire to no avail.
- Diana telling Rebecca that Paul betrayed her.
- Diana trashing #22 and asking to have someone 'taken care of'.
- Rebecca threatening Paul.
- Everyone after Paul!
And we then have a countdown with 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 before finally seeing Paul lying motionless on the ground.
28 hours earlier...
Ramsay Street
Rebecca, Paul and Ringo sit on the lawn discussing how beautiful Donna is going to look and Paul adds in that Charlie's has been done up for the occasion too, a task he was happy to oversee since he's now got lots of free time on his hands!
Declan returns home from work, and puts on a happy face over how things are going great at Lassiters. He decides to head inside and Ringo reminds him about the dance lessons.
Ringo heads off too, to collect his mum, and Rebecca tells Paul that things didn't go well with Kate, so he decides to be the good step- father and go inside too to see how Declan is doing.
Number 22
As Paul enters the house, Declan is frantically trying to get hold of Diana to see what is happening with the conference call to no avail. Paul informs him that the conference call has been cancelled and that Rosemary sacked Diana, which explains why Declan can't get hold of her.
PAUL: I gave you everything and this is how you thank me. You are pathetic.
DECLAN: Paul.
PAUL: (extremely irate) You think you can just kick me out of the business that I have spent 20 years building?
DECLAN: (very calm, almost smirking) It's just business, nothing personal.
PAUL: You and I both know that business is always personal.
DECLAN: (worried) So what happens now?
PAUL: I'll let you know.
Declan looks like he wants to have an accident in his trousers!
Number 24
Donna and Kate move the furniture so they can create a mini- dance floor for dance rehearsals. At the same time, Kate is suggesting what song should be played for their first dance - she thinks it should be 'Love is in the air' but Donna vetoes that as its 7 mins long.
Ringo and Prue arrive and he informs them that Ringo has bailed, but Donna is cool with that news and Kate promises to show him the moves later on.
Nick arrives a wee bit late (the footy training session overran), which immediately loses him brownie points with Prue and the fact he's just arrived still in his footy gear isn't winning her over either although she is relieved to hear him say that he won't have it on to the wedding!
(Later)
Nick moans to Donna about Prue when they have a break in the dance rehearsals. She reassures her dad that Prue will grow to love him once she gets more acquainted with him.
Harold's Store
And at the store we hear Prue moan to Ringo about Nick. Ringo sticks up for Nick with Toadie butting into their conversation to add his vote too, although I think it's more due to the fact he's an ex- Essendon player!
Number 24
Kate and Donna are sticking up for Prue too and Donna tells her dad he's just got to make the effort because she is Ringo's mum!
Harold's Store
And its ditto to this scene too - Ringo is telling his mum she's got to be nice because he is Donna's dad!
Number 24/ Harold's Store
PRUE AND NICK: (together) But if he/she has another go at me there will be trouble.
Declan's bedroom
Rebecca enters her son's room as he stands watching Indy play in her cot. She asks if he talked to Kate but is told to leave it. When she mentions that Paul cares for him, Declan scoffs, so she reminds him about Paul entrusting him with Lassiters. Dec thinks otherwise and adds that the only reason Paul speaks to him is because of her.
REBECCA: Hey Dec, what happened? Paul is really trying with us.
DECLAN: You really trust him? The whole PirateNet thing, you and Paul in business together. You believe all that?
Rebecca struggles to respond, so he tells her to forget it.
Number 22
Paul enters the kitchen to find Rebecca going through some PirateNet papers and explains she's just filing it because the accountant says they've got to keep it for 5 years. He is very nervous all of a sudden and tries to get her to leave it, suggesting they head out for a drink instead. When she isn't very responsive, he literally snatches away the box from the table, telling her that he will file it - the accountants are already working on the Lassiters stuff [so it would be no additional problem]. "Why are you being weird?" she asks, and his reply indicates he isn't, she takes the box back off him and suggests that they do indeed go out for that drink he suggested and asks that he goes get her coat while she puts the box aside.
While Paul goes upstairs to get her coat, Rebecca starts putting 2+2 together when she starts piecing together snippets of info.
Paul returns with the coat and she tells him that she'll just go and tell Declan they are heading out.
Declan's room
Rebecca runs through the pieces of info she's gleamed with Declan - PirateNet about to go under and then suddenly finding an anonymous investor. "Do you know who that was?" she asks him. He doesn't reply, so she asks again and Declan tells her that there was no anonymous donor - Paul embezzled the money from Lassiters.
REBECCA: Why didn't you tell me?
DECLAN: I was trying to protect you.
REBECCA: (puzzled) Protect me?
DECLAN: It was better if you didn't know but then Paul found out that I knew and I didn't have a choice.
REBECCA: Dec.
DECLAN: Mum you can't tell him that you know. Mum you can't, you don't know what he'll do.
Paul startles them by knocking on the door before entering, to ask if they are still going for their drink. Rebecca puts on a false smile and replies "absolutely" although Paul seems a bit puzzled, asking if everything is okay. She reassures him that it is and that she will be downstairs in a second but a close- up of Paul's face shows that he is worried as he exits the room with both of them breathing a huge sigh of relief when the door closes.
REBECCA: What are we going to do?
And as we head into the first commercial break, today's trip down memory lane is to the 2000th episode in 1993 (although they date it 1988!) with Paul surprising Helen at her birthday party.
Number 22
Paul finishes packing up the PirateNet papers for the accountant when he spots Rebecca. He leaves the papersto go across to say how beautiful she looks and to assist with putting on her coat before they head out. Throughout this scene, Rebecca has been very quiet, almost shell- shocked, barely responding to Paul.
Number 24
Kate's dance lesson is in full swing although Ringo seems very uncomfortable dancing and the session ends abruptly when Nick walks out after an argument with Prue after he stood on her toes. Prue runs after him because they only have tonight to learn how to dance!
Charlie's
Paul returns to the table with a bottle of wine and two glasses to a stifled reception from Rebecca. She tries to subtly chat to Paul about Declan but he doesn't seem to pick up on where she wants the conversation to go, however their chat is interrupted by Donna looking for Nick and Prue (they haven't seen them).
Lassiters hotel
Donna arrives at Prue's hotel room determined to get her future mother- in- law and her father sorted out before the wedding. Prue answers the door (wearing a bathrobe) and tries to get rid of Donna but they hear a noise (a glass breaking) and a curse ("damn it") from inside the room. Donna immediately recognises the voice - her dad's. "Hello love" Nick replies (also dressed in a bathrobe) when Prue opens the door fully and cue 3 awkward faces all- round as we head into the commercial break!
(Later)
A now fully dressed Prue and Nick are getting the 3rd degree from Donna who is finding it difficult to fathom out why her married (future) MIL has just slept with her dad especially when they hate each other! Both explain that they no longer hate each other and ended up together in the room to talk after Nick stormed off. We also find out that Ringo's parents only have a marriage in name (that none of their kids know about) and Prue wants Donna to keep quiet - she'll tell Ringo after the wedding.
Number 24
Donna has obviously agreed to keep quiet as the three of them return to #24 where Ringo dishes out a sermon to Prue and Nick - behave on his wedding day! Now that harmony has been restored, it's back to the dancing lessons with Kate although Donna is rather quick to see who is at the door when someone knocks - its Callum and Toadie with a wedding pressie.
Number 22
Rebecca is surprised to see Indy still up when she and Paul return home. She ducks back outside to get her phone and Paul immediately wants to know what Declan has said to her. Declan doesn't reply and Paul drops it in that Diana is going to be on the front page of tomorrow's Erinsborough News and that he also has enough on Declan to bury him too.
PAUL: Something else you should consider too. I love this family and I love this little girl (he's holding Indy) and if anything was to happen to you, I'd be very proud to bring her up as a Robinson. You talk to your mum and you make her believe it.
(Declan takes Indy back into his arms)
PAUL: See you're wide open Declan, I'm not.
Declan's room
Rebecca enters Declan room and mentions that she hasn't said anything. "Do you trust me?" he asks and she replies that she does and wants to know what it is. He then tries to put a different slant on what Paul did, that he was trying to protect her. Rebecca is very suss and wants to know if Paul has said something to him and doesn't believe Dec when he says no.
REBECCA: So why are you changing your story?
DECLAN: ...
His silence says it all and she says that she's had enough, so he again tries to tell her that Paul did what he did because Paul loved her.
REBECCA: You're both lying to me now.
DECLAN: Please don't punish him.
Number 22
Rebecca comes downstairs to confront Paul with that Declan told her and that he did so to protect her. "That's true," Paul confirms and she wants to know why Declan is hiding upstairs. Paul plays dumb so she asks if there is anything else he'd like to tell her. "Why, what did he tell you," he asks suspiciously then eventually when she pushes him further, says "no, definitely not."
REBECCA: Well he said that you love me and he swore to me that there was nothing else going on.
PAUL: There you go. What else do you want me to say?
REBECCA: I want you to make it right; I want you to pay the money back.
PAUL: I have.
REBECCA: (threatening him) And you stay away from Declan or so help me I'll...
PAUL: You'll what?
REBECCA: ...
