Recap
Adam and Pepper get a dodgy video from the store by mistake.
Susan and Karl discuss getting a nurse to watch Tom during the day when they're out.
Ringo tells Carmella that she has feelings for him too.
No.30
Ringo has made a nice breakfast for Carmella in the living room. He's laid the table and is generally trying to impress. Carmella isn't very impressed though, and asks him if it's some sort of backwards punishment for standing him up. Ringo says that she has been treating him badly, but looks quite chuffed about it - he says no-one stands people up and then avoids them without a reason. Carmella says she just didn't want to give Ringo any mixed signals. Ringo says Carmella can't stop thinking about him, and it's because she knows he understands her and would treat her well. He happily goes off to load the van.
Kennedys
Tom has woken everyone up at the crack of dawn. He's made them all a breakfast of eggs on toast, but unfortunately has left out the cooking stage, so the eggs are raw on the plate. Under Tom's gaze, Zeke gamely spoons the whole yolk into his mouth (I was nearly sick myself) and manages to keep it in his mouth until Tom has wandered off, at which point he quickly spits it out. Susan and Rachel cringe in disgust and are glad the nurse is starting today.
Harold calls round in his dressing-gown having heard some noise. He tells Susan that the neighbourhood newspapers and mail have gone missing for the last week.
Zeke asks Rachel how she'll act around Ringo today at school.
RACHEL: It was a mutual breakup, remember?
ZEKE: That's right, cos he's got the hots for Carmella!
RACHEL: He's just going to get hurt. When she break his heart he's going to need all the help he can get. Including me.
Ramsay Street
Harold is looking in the bushes for his newspaper. Ringo suggests it might have gone down a rip in the time-space continuum(!)
Carmella tells Ringo that she can manage the round on her own, but Ringo won't hear of this.
RINGO: I'm not going to try anything, Carmella.
CARMELLA: I wouldn't let you!
Ringo says things would be a lot better is Carmella stopped denying her feelings, but she insists she doesn't have any feeling for him.
No.30
Rosie is freaking down the phone at the Reception venue people for the wedding, while in the background, Adam and Pepper are chuffed to see that Frazer can now raise his knees a few inches.
Rosie tells them that they've lost the reception venue - they are closing next week for a year(!) to make repairs to the roof.
ROSIE: I had everything planned perfectly!
FRAZER: You could always find another venue.
PEPPER: Frazer! Have you been paying attention?! This is the perfect reception venue that Rosie's been dreaming about since she was eight years old.
Frazer and Adam cower under Rosie's onslaught.
ROSIE: THERE IS NOWHERE ELSE! NOWHERE!
FRAZER:(scared) It was just an idea.
Rosie rants that she really wanted everything to be perfect.
FRAZER:(trying to understand) OK. So we don't change the venue. We just get married next week.
PEPPER: Are you trying to kill your fiancee?!
Frazer says he'll do anything Rosie wants to help with the re-organisation - but he doesn't want to wait a year. He wants them to be husband and wife - and the sooner the better.
Outside the School
Carmella opens the back of the van to find Ringo half-naked - he's changing into his school-clothes. She makes a big song and dance about this and seems to think Ringo is trying something on. Ringo tells her off for jumping to conclusions - he was just changing for school. She seethes and then says he can't work for her anymore.
Kennedys
Susan has found the missing newspapers and mail in the garage. Tom can't find his bedroom and is confused. Just then, the nurse arrives and introduces himself as Ian Phillips, the new carer. He seems very nice.
TOM: Never liked the name Ian. Sounds like a squeaky door.
Ian endears himself to Tom by showing an interest in Tom's political views. Susan heads off, saying she's left a steak sandwich in the fridge for Tom's lunch.
ZEKE:(to Ian) Don't treat him like he's dumb. Cos he's not.
IAN: Don't worry. Tom and I will be great mates in no time.
No.30
Rosie has agreed to have the wedding next week, but is mega-stressed about it. She distributes lists to Adam and Frazer ("anything boy-proof"). Adam tries to creep off but Pepper calls him back.
PEPPER: Adam! We have a list to do!
ADAM: We do?
PEPPER: Yes! I am the second bridesmaid, and you are the second bridesmaid's boyfriend, which means we have heaps to do. Starting by taking this very wrong, wrong DVD back.
FRAZER:(calmly, to Rosie) Everything is going to be fine.
ROSIE:(crossly) I really need you to stop saying that!
FRAZER: OK.
ROSIE: I was calm when I had months to plan, now I have a week. So no more Calm Rosie. From now on, I only want to hear you saying "yes" to me, is that understood?
FRAZER: Absolu...yes! Yes!
ROSIE:(picking up the phone) Promise me you'll still want to marry me even though I'm hopelessly stressed and unbearable?
FRAZER: Of cour..yes!
ROSIE:(into the phone) Mum, it's me, I have some news. Are you sitting down?
Scarlet Bar
Susan is handing back the stolen newspapers to Harold and also a rather fetching pair of boxer shorts, much to Harold's embarrassment! They cover the awkward situation by agreeing that the boxers must belong to Lou(!)
Pepper and Adam come in. Harold asks them if they got the right DVD last night because he got the wrong one from the shop. Pepper and Adam look a bit shocked - surely Harold couldn't have rented the dodgy one? Susan chimes in and says that she heard a bloke at the shop complaining he got "My Fair Lady" instead of his movie.
HAROLD: That was my movie! And I was all set for a sing-a-long.
PEPPER:(quietly, to Adam) See - he is such a sweetheart!
Harold asks what movie they got and they tell him evasively that it was sort of a horror movie. And indeed they are correct(!).
School
Carmella is dropping Ringo off, and has just got the message via phone that Rosie and Frazer's wedding has been brought forward. Carmella apologises to Ringo for going off at him for changing in the van and says she'll think about reconsidering her decision to fire him.
RINGO: There you go. Thinking about me again. (grins) See ya.
Rachel and Zeke see Ringo on the way in to school. Rachel tells Ringo that everything's cool between them, so he doesn't have to act weird around her.
Meanwhile, Susan has approached Carmella in her van and tells her that a before-school job is tough for a VCE student - because it "interferes with their studies".
CARMELLA: He's old for his year and and he's very mature.
SUSAN:(pointedly) He's still a boy, nonetheless. Just try to bear that in mind. Sometimes what they want and what's best for them are very different things.
Carmella reads between the lines quite well, and when Susan has gone, hits her head back against her seat, wondering what to do.
(Later)
Susan is on the phone to Tom's nurse, Ian, who tells her everything's fine and that he's considering Communism as an option! Zeke still looks worried though.
Kennedys
Ian opens the door to Harold, who has brought some cooking over for Tom. He tells Harold that Tom is in bed, but he isn't really, because after Harold has gone, Tom comes out from his bedroom.
TOM: Was that Harold's voice?
IAN: No, you're hearing things again.
TOM: Oh. What are you eating?
IAN: They're mine. From home.
TOM: They look nice. Can I have one?
IAN: I thought we said it was nap time. Why don't you get yourself back into bed, and maybe later we'll consider a pastry.
He closes the door on Tom, leaving Tom looking thoroughly confused.
Another evil health worker. Oh goody.
School
Ringo is finishing his homework when Carmella comes in and tells him he is responsible and mature, and then starts to unbutton his shirt!
RINGO: Are you sure?
She starts to kiss his neck.
RINGO: No, we can't! Not here! Carmella...
No.30
Thankfully the whole of the above scene at the school is just Carmella's daydream, and Rosie snaps her out of it by panicking about the wedding. Frazer wheels in and suggests dropping a few people off the guests list, perhaps relatives she never mentions. This doesn't go down too well and Rosie glowers.
ROSIE:(to Carmella) Now, I trust you are looking after Ringo for me?
CARMELLA:(cagey) What do you mean?
ROSIE: You told me you'd take him to pick up his good shoes.
Carmella wants Frazer to do it, but he has too many things on his list already(!) She reluctantly agrees.
Kennedys
Ian is eating Tom's steak sandwich that Susan left him, but he's given Tom baked beans. Tom is not impressed. Just then the door opens and when Tom gets up to meet Zeke, Ian hurriedly switches the plates back round.
TOM: He's making me eat beans!
IAN: Don't be silly. You've got your steak sandwich right there.
TOM: And he locked me in my room.
ZEKE: Did you?
IAN: He's just a little confused. Aren't you Tom.
TOM: I'm not confused. You're a mongrel.
Just then Susan comes home. She doesn't believe Tom, but Zeke still does. Tom is all confused and goes off to look for his dog. Zeke is very suspicious, but Susan sends him out to the car. She apologises to Ian, saying it will take the family a while to adjust.
Ian tells Susan that he left his wallet on the bench and there's $100 missing from it. Susan gives Ian the money out of her own purse, thinking Tom took it. Tom is secretly watching this exchange from the bedroom door. When Susan has gone, he comes out.
TOM: You're a dirty little thief! As well as a liar. I'd never take money from someone's wallet. Of that I'm sure.
IAN: Eat your lunch, Tom.
Garden of No.30
Adam, Pepper and Carmella are discussing the wedding cake, which Rosie is having problems getting. Adam suggests they just make their own(!)
PEPPER: The one she wants has five tiers and is going to cost over $2,000 dollars.
ADAM: It's a fruit-cake with white icing!
Just then Rosie comes out with a clipboard looking very stressed, wanting an update. Nearly everything is on track, except the cake. Adam and Pepper go inside to talk cakes.
Ringo is in the pool (must have got over his water phobia then!) and invites Carmella to come in for a swim. She says she'd like to have a talk instead, and Ringo won't like it. She tells him that they cannot have a relationship - no more smiles and games. Ringo says that's only because he's too young, not because she doesn't have feeling for him.
RINGO: If me being seventeen is all that's stopping you - I'll wait.
Kennedys
Zeke, Rachel and Susan arrive home. Ian tells Susan that everything has gone well.
At the table, Tom tells Zeke that Ian took his lunch and told Susan that he stole money from her.
ZEKE: Don't worry. I'm going to make sure that everyone knows exactly what he's doing.
