Karl is disappointed in Boyd for not locking up the surgery properly.
Kim tells Janelle that he went surfing and the money got nicked.
Janae thinks she has it and Boyd could have it too.
Boyd mooches about deep in thought.
The Surgery- Karl's room
Kim and Janae are talking to Karl about the test. Janae reluctantly tells Karl about how and where she thinks she's picked up the disease - Karl's glad she wasn't into drugs. He thinks she's done the right thing by coming to get tested. Janae wants to know the odds of her having contracted the disease and Karl is sorry to tell her that there's a real chance she may have it but with today's treatments such a diagnosis need not be fatal - they'll know in a week. Janae can't believe it takes so long. Karl suggests she get someone to support her through the waiting period - Janae picks Kim. Kim has to step outside while Karl takes her bloods. Kim kisses her, telling her to keep her 'chin up'. Janae looks ahead, sad and full of worry.
Boyd breathes deeply and looks behind him, deciding to get to his feet and go.
Janelle is showing Bree her piccies and is annoyed Kim isn't there to see them too. But she really ain't that bothered as it gives her the perfect chance to get her new material down - all inspired by her and Kim's lives. Truth is stranger than fiction and the readers' will get reeled in by a whole lotta strange!
Janelle commences her masterwork:
"Tim was determined to be not only a hot surfy spunk, but a real good Dad too, so he convinced Waylon to invest his cash in Brett's movie."
Stingray listens on in interest.
"Off they trot, all cashed up to furnish the family movie empire with new editing software. Surf was up, which means that Tim's common sense was out to lunch. Talking wax-head Waylon into catching a few tubes, he left the stash o'cash, apparently safe in the combie. They locked up the treasure, thought they were clever, went seeking treasure and lost it forever!"
She's well chuffed with the added literary value provided by her poetry but straight out the shower Dylan, looking fetching in one of Lynnie's leopard print shower caps, isn't so happy. Stinger intercepts him as he tries to run out the kitchen and back to the hallway. Dylan says they couldn't tell him - they didn't want him to give up on the movie. And now he needs to find 2Gs to pay Paul back, never mind double it! Bree says blaming each other won't do anything. Dylan asks her what they do now, then.
Boydy's all fired up and wanting to speak to Janae. When she does come out of Karl's room he declares his undying love for her in front of Karl, Kim and the surgery waiting room. They hug. Karl thinks he might get on with his appointments but then decides to make his patients wait a whole lot longer as he wants to 'have a word' with Boyd.
Outside the Surgery
Kim and Janae go for smoothies.
Stingray has a plan - 'Child Struggling to Learn A Instrument' - involving Bree playing the recorder badly and people giving her money for lessons while Stingray films it all. Dylan's pessimistic but Stingray knows no one will be able to resist coughing up. It works, to Stingray's glee.
The Surgery - Karl's Room
Boyd thought Karl would understand his actions - he wanted Janae to know he cared. Karl expects higher standards. Just as Boyd tells him about being accepted into Eden Hills Uni, Karl drops a bombshell - he has reason to believe Boyd leaked confidential information to Janae and his medical career might be over before it's even begun. Dear-oh, as Susan would say.
The General Store
Dylan comes in and Janae goes off to find Boyd so Kim can have a chat with his son. Kim promises to get the money for him - there must be someone who can lend it to them. Dylan ain't going to Paul for it. Kim decides he'll ask him, even though he doesn't like him. They rehearse what Kim will say with Dylan as Paul and Kim as Kim (obviously). Dylan does the Paul walk and everything. Kim will do anything to make it up with him - and Dylan thinks there just might be something he can do...
The Surgery - Karl's Room
Boyd says Janae didn't get the information from him - Karl finds it very hard to believe as Mike's diagnosis was so recent he probably hasn't even told his parents yet. He stresses they should think of the consequences for Mike - it's an unforgivable breach of trust. Karl's terminating Boyd's contract immediately and thinks he should notify the university. Boyd says he saw Mike's pathology report during filing - he loves Janae and she was at risk. Karl says he should've come to him. Boyd knows he deserves this and is sorry to have let Karl down. As he leaves he finds Janae waiting at the door, asking if things are cool.
Stingray suddenly gets all morally confused over the money they're making under false pretences. Bree solves matters by making a sign saying she can't play recorder and needs money for her brother - totally honest. Boyd and Janae come out of the medical centre and decide to go over and talk to the busking crew. Janae thinks Bree is making a spectacle of herself but is surprised by how much moolah they've collected. And two more people donate, in spite of the sign.
Janelle is trying to work on her book - "Her mind now unhinged, Stick Insect Wendy (Oh, I so miss Wendy! Ahem -) confronted Frog-Face at the top of the stairs -" Bree distracts her by counting her busking money and she's further interrupted by Kim, Dylan and Stingray, who come in with a wrecked-looking hot dog cart they picked up from the dump. Janae comes in and Bree lets slip that Janae got back with Boyd - Janelle expects to know why they broke up but Kim says it doesn't matter. Janelle can't believe there's no new conflict to report - Bree looks to Kim who looks to Janae. Janae thinks it's been just about one of the most boring days of her life...
(Yet more Timmins...) Dylan thinks he can double his money using the hot dog cart business. Janelle isn't impressed - mainly because all the buddyness and lack of conflict is rubbish inspiration for a writer like herself. Meanwhile Kim, Janae and Bree watch from the kitchen: Janae tells her dad she'll only tell Janelle if the test comes back positive. Kim thinks Janelle might want to share in it but Janae and Bree both agree that she'll freak if she knows. They watch Janelle laugh herself silly at Stingray and Dylan's play-fight.
The next morning. Both Janae and Boyd couldn't sleep. Janae finds out that Boyd was fired and that he told Karl about looking through the files, leading him to believe that he told Janae about Mike. Janae thinks all she ever does is get him into trouble but Boyd insists it's just a minor glitch.
The Surgery - Karl's Room
Janae bursts into Karl's room and tells him that she stole Boyd's keys and looked up the records herself. Karl asks how she could become so worried as to go to such lengths - Boyd must have said something. She admits that he was asking a lot of weird questions but she figured out the rest. Karl can't believe it -do they have any idea of the position they've put him in? Moral and Legal dilemmas in abundance... Janae asks if Boyd will still be able to study medicine but Karl just makes a negative head shake. Janae thinks she's ruined it for everyone and runs off.
Stingray interviews his mother on happiness, using a fake English accented voice. She admits her kids mean the most to her in the whole world. Her aim is to help them get on and they pay her back with their achievements. She's so proud that they've got it together when she and Kim aren't model parents. And she's here too when they're not happy, to share their problems. Bree listens intently and says to Stingray, once Janelle has left, that she doesn't think they give their mother enough credit.
When Boyd's unpacking his desk, Karl comes out to talk. Boyd knows he was out of order and he deserves everything that comes to him. He isn't sure he's capable of being a doctor now. Karl says the incident has shown he's young and no one has all the answers. Karl admits that he's been in a similar situation himself and he didn't have the excuse of youth and inexperience for what he did. The lesson: you never stop learning. If Boyd's prepared to learn Karl will keep him on and put it behind them. A chuffed Boyd thanks him and Karl says it should be Janae he thanks.
Boyd announces he's got his job back - the whole thing's forgotten. Janae's glad but doesn't look it: she says she's been no good for him. In a few weeks he'll be going to uni and everything will be different - he won't want to come home to 'the scragg next door'. Boyd dismisses this, saying he wants her. Janae thinks she'll only ever hold him back - what if she tests positive? Boyd is adamant he'll stick by her. Janae says he will, but only because he keeps his promises: she's giving him a chance to walk away.
Boyd: I want to be with you - no matter what. That's what love means.
They kiss. The end.
