Harold proposing a toast - 'to Neighbours'.
The adoption man approaching Steph and Max at the street party.
Sky, Joe, Harold, Lil and David arrive home still gushing about the documentary and what they saw in it. Joe puts his big foot in it by saying the temp in the bar dropped 20° after Sarah blew her kiss to Karl then adds about David giving Paul the evil eyes before saying "you'd think he'd had a crack at your missus!" Nobody says a word about it and Joe wants to head off to bed and asks where he's sleeping. Sky tells him it's the sofa again for him as there is no room but Joe magically remembers the half bedroom and wants to sleep there. The others disappear to make dinner and Sky sits Joe down so she can tell him a few things!
The Hoylands and Kayla arrive home and Kayla apologies for what happened with the adoption agency and then adds that she should never have put No. 32's address down on her forms. Boyd asks if they can appeal the decision and Steph tells him that the agency have a very long list and they blew their chances.
Sky has filled Joe in and he makes few comments about Lil and Paul, and then twigs why there is no room at the inn - David and Lil are sleeping in separate rooms. With much hilarity and wondering what they put in the porridge in Ramsay Street, Joe then comments on all the affairs that have been happening as Sky wishes she was elsewhere! He asks her about her love live and wonders why she isn't speaking to Dylan, so Sky tells him about the pact he made with Harold but Joe suggests a few clandestine meetings since what Harold doesn't know won't kill him!
Kayla and Boyd are sitting looking at Ashley when Max comes out of the room and they ask how Steph is. He tells them that she'll need a bit of time to get her head round things and Kayla says she's ruined everything. Boyd says that they should get a flat of their own, as them staying her is killing Steph. Kayla tells him she that they can't afford it, so Boyd says he'll give up school and get a proper job. Kayla says it won't be a proper job but a lame with hard work for little money. That doesn't put Boyd off though, but Kayla tells him that he's smart, has a great family behind him and not to give it all up for her. Boyd tells her that it is what he wants.
No. 32 (later on)
Kayla finishes changing Ashley and Boyd asks what she now thinks of them getting their own place. She tells him she still isn't happy about him leaving school but Boyd says he can finish school later when Ashley is older. The way Kayla is talking, she's having big doubts over this and trying to think of reasons why but Boyd says they are all going to be fine including Steph and Max if they aren't there, and to have faith and stay positive.
Naked Joe sleeps away on the couch, as Harold, David and then Lil come through to the livingroom and notice NudeJoe sleeping, not exactly happy at their guest sleeping in the buff...with no covers on him. Harold wonders what the girls will say and tries to shield Sky from it when she comes through but she goes over and wakes him up. Joe feigns his innocence telling them he's lived too long in the bush and he's "off to drain the spuds!"
No. 24 Backyard
Joe comes out to 'empty the spuds' and notices Dylan tending to the garden. They introduce each other and Joe asks why he's doing the garden. Dylan says he's just helping out but Joe suss out that there is a hidden agenda. He then tells Dylan that from now on he is the one that Dylan has to impress not Harold and he'd better behave himself with Sky if you can't my drift!
Joe comes back in as breakfast is being served and mentions that he spoke to Dylan and that he didn't bad an eyelid when Joe was "pointing Percy at the petunias!" David announces he's off on a power walk and Lil asks if he's doing anything that afternoon.
In the kitchen, Joe debates with Harold the ban on Sky seeing Dylan, suggesting it is unjust until Harold fills Joe in on what Dylan did to the house. Joe now changes his tune commenting that he obviously got Dylan all wrong until Sky pipes up that he is wrong and she'll explain it to him but Joe firmly tells her that is enough from her.
As Max and Steph tidy up the living room, Boyd and Kayla announce that they're off to flat hunt and that they'll be out by the end of the week if things go well. Max isn't happy, especially when Boyd says he'll give up school to get a job to afford it. Boyd tells him that them living here is killing Steph, and he asks her to truthfully confirm this. Steph admits that it is killing her but since she is being honest, adds that them moving out is a bad idea because they aren't in love and you can't build a home without love. Boyd tells her that she is wrong.
STEPH: Oh am I? Can you look at me in the face Boyd and tell me you're in love with Kayla?
BOYD: That's not fair.
STEPH: How about you Kayla? Can you tell me you're in love with Boyd?
From their obvious silence, Steph is right and tells them things will only get worse if they keep lying to themselves.
The Park of Paid Taxes
Closely watched by the MSB, Boyd catches up with Kayla sitting on the swing and after asking if she is okay, she is, tells her that Steph didn't mean what she said - she is hurt and needed somebody to yell at. Calmly, Kayla tells him that they shouldn't be together. Boyd replies that Ashley needs them, both of them, so that they can be a family. Kayla tells him that he is the best person she has ever met but they're not in love. Boyd says that they'll grow to love each other but she replies no - because she is still in love with Ashley's father.
Dylan is tinkering with his car as a now fully clothed Joe comes over to tell Dylan that he's been a right mongrel for trashing No. 24 just because someone looked at him funny and adds that Sky is now off limits. Dylan asks Joe to hear his side and tells him about David being rude to his mum, calling his Bree an alcoholic when she is only 13, and that he broke his brothers arm. He also tells Joe that he lost it and did the wrong thing. Joe asks why did he not talk to David and he tells him that basically David doesn't want his family here and wouldn't listen anyway. Joe tells him that it doesn't excuse what he did and Dylan agrees with him and adds that he's grown up since them and that is why he agreed to the ban. Dylan also adds that he is a very protective person if someone hurts his family and Joe now likes what he hears, telling him that "there is more to him than he thought" before giving him a clip round the ear and saying he acted like a moron!
Walking hand in hand, Lil asks David what alcohol they fancy for lunch and he suggests bubbly in preference to wine. Lil goes into get it from the bar and as David waits outside and a female, Jackie, comes up and talks to him. She's just there on business and thinks it is destiny. He begins to look nervous and she asks him why didn't he call after their first date, since it was wonderful! Looking for words, David says he's had a rough time lately. She sympathises with him and suggests coffee as a way of making it up to her and they can then cry on each other's shoulders, again! Wishing the ground would open up and swallow him; David replies that he is a bit busy at the moment.
JACKIE: Oh come on. Not too busy for me. Remember I have experience the real David Bishop!
Just then Lil comes out of the bar and as she comes over to David notices the female standing there. They exchange pleasantries before Jackie asks if that is his wife.
DAVID: My wife.
JACKIE: Huh. Why didn't you just be honest in the first place?
She says goodbye to him before turning and leaving and Lil has a 'what the hell that was about' look on her face.
Kayla holds a sleeping Ashley and tells her that she loves her so much and kisses her softly before carefully placing her in the crib and tearfully places a note underneath the blanket she's just covered Ashley with.
Lil wants details and David explains he went to Geelong for 3 days, and that he had dinner with Jackie. They also had a lot in common (her recently divorced, him recently separated) and they talked and one thing led to another and... Lil asks if they spend the night together before adding that David doesn't have to answer that since it wasn't a fair question. After a second she tells him that she has no right to ask it.
No. 24 backyard
As Harold digs the garden, Sky asks Joe if he spoke to Dylan and he confirms that he did and she wants details.
JOE: You know those "bad boys" that we talked about that some Sheila's really love.
JOE: He's one of them.
Sky says he isn't and that Joe doesn't know him. Joe says he does!
JOE: Look chook. With these blokes it is all about where the heart is. You know if it is beating in the wrong place (looks at Harold) like is trousers (Harold looks mortified), wallet...trouble. But Dylan's heart...I reckon it's in the right place. It's right where it should be.
Sky thanks him and Joe announces that the ban is over! Harold is annoyed and doesn't appreciate Joe swanning in and disrupting the boundaries Joe set given he's going to be off again soon. Joe surprises them by saying he's going to stay around for a bit before adding he may never go back to the station! Sky is happy at that news, Harold less so.
As Max and Steph look at Ashley, Boyd comes in asking if they've seen Kayla. Steph says not in a little while and Max wonders if she's gone out for a walk as Boyd heads over to Ashley. He picks her up and the note Kayla left falls onto the mattress and hands Ashley to Steph so he can read the note. As Steph looks gooey-eyed at Ashley, he confirms the note is from Kayla and that she is gone and that she wants Steph to have Ashley!
