Hoyland house
Steph and Max have a device that measures oestrogen levels in saliva, which can determine a good time to try for a baby. Steph has to spit on lens then look through the eyepiece.
STEPH: Oh, it's like a kaleidoscope!
MAX: What can you see?
STEPH (imitating a drugged-out hippie): Whoa, man, the colours! Psychadelic!
It seems it isn't a good time to try for a baby. Max is looking through the device when Summer comes home from school. She wants a look, but Max won't let her, because it's not a toy. Summer knows it's to do with the baby. She wants to know what the thing does, and feels entitled to, because she's turning 13 next week, nearly an adult. She's upset when they won't let her have a look, even after Steph tells her she spat on it. She leaves again, just as Harold comes in, looking for Isabelle. She hadn't opened the Coffee Shop yet, and Harold was a little worried.

Summer protests - they're for 12 year olds - and asks for a coffee. Harold thinks she means "iced coffee", and Summer corrects him. Harold asks when she is turning 13. Summer, surprised that he knew, tells him. She complains to Harold that Max isn't acknowledging that she's growing up. Harold explains that it's hard to accept: it makes parents feel old. Sindi asks if she would take back the kiss if she could. Susan says no, but it's a bit of a hurdle when you fall in love with a man who's already married to God. Sindi tells her she needs to give it a go, despite what Tom does for a living. Susan doesn't want to be responsible for completely derailing his life. Sindi is adamant that they should give the relationship a go; Susan tells her it's up to Tom. He's got the most to lose. Sindi says that Susan deserves to find out where she stands.
Coffee Shop
Lil and Steph talk about Izzy, and how she's annoyed at Max for always taking his sister's side, no matter what she does. Lil says she shouldn't let her get in the way of her relationship with Max. Steph says she just wants him to see how stupid he's being. Lil says that it's pointless trying to change something that she can't, and to just let it go. Jack tells her that they took it all way out of context. Mac mentions the Ricky Martin poster, and Jack says his now famous line, "I don't have a Ricky Martin poster!"
