A gentlemen tells Lou about BUMS, the Bald Unhappy Men's Society, and how there is money in the market. Max and Steph embrace in his car.
Max and Steph's idea for a picnic has ended up inside the back of the car due to a heavy rainstorm. They sit and enjoy each others company all cuddled up. Max mentions how they have just begun their journey together, which Steph is glad to agree with. She suggests they head back but Max doesn't want it to end just yet.
Lou arrives with a parcel and discovers Harold in the middle of using the periwinkle powder. He starts of teasing him, but soon lets it rest. Lou recons it's living with a hairdresser that's driven him to it. Harold asks him if he thinks any effect is taking place. Lou tells him he could be onto something.
Boyd catches Max rubbing the periwinkle powder into his hair. Max recons that it's really starting to do something, but Boyd tells him he's got a bit of a way to go yet. Max explains how as you get older, hair starts growing apart from the parts where you want it to. He tells Boyd how it's a maternal inheritance gene, so he may be saved. Boyd asks what happened to the ballooning with Steph, but Max tells him they just went for a drive and that he's invited her over for a meal later.
Connor walks in to find the pub themed for a Brazilian night. Lou asks him why he looks so shabby, so Connor explains that he just dragged him out of bed after doing a double shift for him, so he better have a good reason. Lou shows him a picture of the periwinkle plant and explains how once they start producing periwinkle powder; Connor will be able to get all the sleep he needs. Valda comes through from the kitchen and gets Lou to try her new dish: black beans, chorizo sausage, pork, bacon, and pigs trotters; a man's meal from Brazil. She tells him that he inspired it to her, and is planning to serve it to the customers hot and strong. Lou seems to enjoy it and continues to eat it.
Boyd thanks Steph for the meal. Summer wanders through asking Max to help her find her beach kit. Boyd tells Steph they are off to Torquay for some surfing the next day. Steph is surprised to hear that both Max and Boyd are surfers, so Summer suggests that she come with them, so they can teach her to surf. Steph suggest it might be best to leave it.
Harold comes by to drop some papers off for Valda. Lou tells him he'll pass them on, and turns around to find Valda dressed in Brazilian attire right behind him. She asks Lou what he recons to her outfit, and goes on to dance to the pub audience. Disappearing off to the kitchen, Harold tells Lou that Valda is flirting with him. Lou is shocked.
Steph is looking at a photo of Max and Boyd. Boyd tells her that his mum took it when he was 3, and that she loved her photography, but never took it up professionally because she had kids. Summer and Max come through with the puddings. Summer asks Steph if she's made her mind up yet. Max tells her not to be so pushy. But Summer tells them that they all want Steph to come.
Connor explains to Michelle what Lou has asked him to do and shows her the picture of the plant in the gardenering book. Michelle tells him she saw a plant like it on her school excursion and would know where to find it. She asks if he can come with him, as it's the holidays and she has nothing better to do.
Outside Coffee Shop
Connor and Michelle thank Harold for the drinks and tell Lou that Michelle knows where to find the plant. Lou hurries them on their way. Harold is disappointed that Lou has Connor doing that kind of work for him, but Lou explains that he is keeping him busy. Valda passes them on her way to the pub. She makes a move on Lou and continues on her way. Lou tells Harold he wish he'd never told him now, as she kept making moves on him as they were locking up the previous night. Lou isn't sure what to do as she doesn't give up. Harold suggests that he reciprocates the moves.
HAROLD: I kissed her once remember, she went away eventually.
LOU: That was when she thought you were....
HAROLD: I still think it's worth a try.
Max is busy blowing up a beach ball, and tells Summer to go and get her UV top. She tells him that her friends mum doesn't make her friend wear one but Max tells her she'll thank her when she's older. Summer asks Steph if she wore one as a kid, but Steph tells her they weren't around when she was younger but if they were she would've. Boyd comes through complaining of a headache. He suggests that the others go on without him, but Max tells him they won't leave him on his own. Boyd tells him he may feel a little better later on as they don't always last that long, so Max sends him back to bed for a while. Summer complains that it's not fair.
Michelle and Connor are searching for the periwinkle plant but are not having much luck. As they have no time limit, Michelle lies back on the grass and relaxes in the sun. Connor joins her and asks her about New York, and if she's looking forward to going.
MICHELLE: Yep, excited..... a bit scared................... petrified!
He tells her that he's going to miss her. His phone rings and it is Lou.
Lou's Place Office and Random Field.
Lou asks Connor what is taking him so long in finding the plants, so Connor explains that it's taking them a bit longer to identify them. Valda knocks on the office door, so Lou tells Connor to hurry up as he's all alone at the pub. Connor tells him he'll come as quick as he can.
Michelle and Connor start walking back, she asks him what kind of deal he has with Lou, and Connor explains how it's a casual one. Talking about it, Michelle realises that Lou is taking advantage of Connor, but he doesn't see it that way as he recons he owes it to Lou. Michelle recons Lou owes it to him.
Max comes through to tell Steph and Summer that the trip is off, and that it's probably best that they let Boyd rest. Steph suggests that maybe she and Summer go and find Jack and see if he'll give them some footie training. Summer tells Steph 'she's the best'.
Michelle and Connor have stopped again. Connor recons he's found the plant, but Michelle recons the leaf is the wrong shape and that Lou will notice. Connor recons that Lou probably won't notice as he hasn't looked at it in that much detail, and will never make it as far as phase two of hiring a factory or a chemist. He tells her that Lou has bossed him about too much, and he has some serious negotiating to do.
Valda creeps up on Lou behind the bar and purposely gets in his way. He sends her back to the kitchen, telling her that he has customers to talk to if he gets bored. At that moment, Connor and Michelle arrive back, and Lou tells Connor to head straight to the kitchen to keep Valda occupied and out of the way. Connor asks Lou to confirm with him the number of hours that he has worked for him, and reminds him of a little thing called overtime. Lou tells him he knows what overtime is.
CONNOR: Well, yeah, that's weird because you've never paid me any.
MICHELLE: What is your hourly rate?
CONNOR: Gee, Michelle, I'm not really very clear on that myself, um...
LOU: You've been got at
MICHELLE: What exactly is his job description Lou?
LOU: He's lucky to be working for me
MICHELLE: I think you're lucky to have him, he's a good worker, and you know what, I think he deserves a new contract, with entitlements.
CONNOR: New contract? Michelle, I don't think I ever had one to start off with.
MICHELLE: Oh, really Lou, something has to be done.
LOU: OK, Connor, come into the office, we'll see what we can do. And bring your manager with you.
Boyd is making a social phone call in the front room, but as soon as Steph comes through the door, hangs up and pretends to be ill. Steph tells him Max has been worried about him, and will be glad to know he's feeling better.
Valda is continuing to flirt with Lou, telling him he's hot and spicy. He asks her to put the plates down that she's carrying and come into the office with him. He starts to reciprocate her advances by making a move on her, it is clear she is uneasy about it.
LOU: What I want, is to have a wonderful woman in my life, in a permanent fixture.
LOU: Don't look so shocked. I know you want me just as much as I want you. I mean, I've tried to deny this. I tried to put it out of my mind, but it's just impossible. Valda, since the first time I've met you, I found you irresistible, in fact, I think I love you.
VALDA: Oh. No don't say that. No, I need time to think.
Lou starts to laugh in an evil manner and walks away from her around the office. Valda cries, leaving Lou looking rather shocked.
