Recap
- Drew walking away from Lou in the coffee shop telling him he'd let him know.
- Ellie and Michelle sneaking around Erinsborough High at night trying not to be heard by the security guard.
Erinsborough High
Ellie and Michelle are still hiding, the security guard hears them and radios his colleague to come and help him find the people who've broken in. Michelle looks very worried.
Coffee Shop
Dee brings Toadie a coffee and asked about his 'new woman'. He tells her that although she's lovely she's unattainable. Dee points out that he should look on the bright side - his new job. Toadie wishes he could talk about his feelings. Dee says that she's here for him to talk to and he can talk to Maggie too now that they work together, he thinks that may not be a great idea which Dee takes to mean that it may affect office politics. She sympathises that unrequited love can be very painful; Toadie says that everything reminds him of her and what he can't have. She explains this is why he must be persistent and tell Meredith how he feels - 'what's the worst that can happen?'
Outside number 26
Michelle and Ellie have managed to escape the security guard, they check the time and realise they should be getting home. Ellie leaves and Michelle goes into the house. Joe is waiting up for her and asks where she's been as he specifically told her not to go out. She tells him she's been digging an escape tunnel and goes to her room. Joe sighs.
Number 28
Karl is reading while Susan works at the table. Karl mentions that he thinks Ben should have been christened by now. Susan reminds him that it tool them 6 months to christen Mal because they couldn't decide on a name. Karl says that as Libby and Drew aren't fighting about a name, maybe they just need some help to decide, he likes Ben Kennedy but Susan tells Karl not to pressurize them - especially as he's only bothered about seeing his name in there somewhere. She laughs and the phone rings. She looks concerned and calls Ellie when she hangs up the phone. Apparently that was the school security guard who saw two teenage girls running from the school and found chalk graffiti in the year ten classroom. Ellie comes out yawning and in her pjs, Susan asks her if Michelle and Zach broke up recently, Ellie responds that it was a while ago, weeks and weeks.
Number 24
Karl is checking a cut on Harold's hand saying it looks fine but he needs to keep it clean to stop it getting infected. Harold thanks him for calling, saying Tad was kind enough to open up the coffee shop for him. Karl says Tad is worried about him and has mentioned he's been out of sorts. Harold reassures Karl he's fine, Karl leaves telling Harold to take care of himself. Harold looks pensive.
Erinsborough High
Ellie comes into the classroom and says hi to Michelle, the camera pans out to show the blackboard with ZACH IS GAY written on it. Ellie says it's like Michelle is saying it's wrong to be gay, but Michelle responds that it's the worst thing she could think of that a guy like Zach would want to be called and asks Ellie whose side she's on. They sit down and Ellie reckons that Susan is onto Michelle. Michelle is worried that her dad will go mad.
Coffee Shop
Joe is telling Harold that it's a bit hard not to take it personally, Harold points out the bright side that from now on he won't have as many personal commitments. Joe leaves telling Harold it's lucky he makes good coffee. Dee, Leo and Emily arrive; Harold says hello to Emily but Dee explains that she's only talking to her 'special friend' today. Apparently school is closed so Dee is taking Emily and her friend to the zoo. Leo offers to come too but Dee says he's already made them late enough for school as it is. Harold asks Emily what he favourite animal is - Dee says it's the elephant but they're off to see the platypus as she has a friend who works with them. Harold says they must come to tell him all about it. Dee would like an orange juice and Emily's special friend has asked for a Devil's spongecake even though it isn't actually on the menu. Harold goes very quiet, apparently Madge used to make it but they haven't served it since she died. Dee apologises and wonders how Emily knew about it.
Lou's Place
Karl, Susan and Lou are sitting at a table chatting when Libby, Drew and Ben arrive asking why they wanted to see them so urgently. Lou explains that it's about the christening - why not have it in the church they got married in? Karl tells Libby that they need to know what the baby will be called and whips out a blackboard with name combinations written on. Susan promises Libby this is nothing to do with her. Drew tells Karl and Lou they're crazy. Lou defends them saying that they are just trying to prod them along - otherwise Ben won't have an official name till his 21st birthday. Libby and Drew are cross and call them interfering and ridiculous. Karl claims they are just trying to help and Libby in more than welcome to add names to the list ready for the vote. Libby tells them they've got to be kidding and that she doesn't like the name Benjamin even though it is Lou's first choice (including his own name as the middle name). Susan agrees that everyone should have 3 names as it sounds better than too but Libby thinks this is too traditional - something she's not.
Karl is desperate to know if Ben will be a Kennedy or a Kirk but they insist they haven't decided yet and that there won't be a vote, they'll let them know when they decide. Libby, Drew and Ben leave. Susan berates Karl and Lou for being sneaky and underhand but Karl and Lou hi-five and say they should have a name within 24 hours.
Number 26
Michelle and Ellie enter - Ellie goes into the kitchen to get some lunch. Joe comes in and says he's been a bit of a fool and that he's let Michelle down when all she did was stick up for what she believed in Joe says he's pleased she's got principles and he could never hate her. Ellie looks on from the doorway looking reflective.
Coffee Shop
Dee and Emily come in, finding Harold sitting down at a table. He asks them how the zoo was, Dee says they had a great time and Emily's friend was very good despite still not being able to see her. Emily interjects that Madge liked the elephants; Harold and Dee exchange a worried look.
Erinsborough High
Michelle and Ellie are in a classroom, Ellie is trying to convince Michelle that her dad might be angry for a while but will forgive her. They spot Susan and try to run off but Susan asks Michelle for a word saying she knows what it's about. Ellie interrupts confessing it was her who wrote those things about Zach and she's not sorry she did it.
Coffee Shop
Harold asks if it was Madge who asked for the Devil's sponge cake, Emily says she did - she loved making that cake. Harold confirms this and asks Emily if there's anything else she can tell him about her. Emily says that Madge misses Scott and Charlene; Harold sits there stunned. Emily adds that Madge is going to Paris and asks where that is. Dee and Harold exchange yet another shocked look.
Erinsborough High
Susan tells Ellie that she should call the police for breaking into school and vandalising school property. Ellie says she's sorry and she wasn't trying to put gays down, it was just something she though Zach would find insulting. Susan says she won't stand for negative offensive stereotypes. Ellie agrees which leads to Susan asking her if she was alone, Ellie says she was but Susan says they'll discuss it later.
Coffee Shop
Harold sighs when Emily says Madge helps people by writing to them as he remembered her old job as an agony aunt, Emily says she has lots of letters and will show them
Number 24 - Garden
Emily makes Dee and Harold close their eyes as she goes to get a box full of letters and gives Harold one Madge wrote to him:
My darling, if you're reaching for your bible you'll be feeling very alone.
Do something for me, don't wallow in grief, don't ask why.
We had so many good times - we mustn't be greedy.
Harold sighs and folds up the letter.
Number 24 - Inside
Emily is showing them the rest of the stuff in the box, Madge's glasses and a brochure for Paris. Harold is very quiet but tells Emily it's not her fault.
Lou's Place
Karl and Susan are sitting at a table, Joe comes and joins them asking if there's anything they can do for Harold. Lou suggests persuading him to go and see his family. Joe leaves telling them to let him know if they think of anything.
Libby and Drew arrive with Ben, Libby picks up the chalkboard and starts crossing out names. They've decided on Ben Kennedy Kirk (no hyphen.) Libby asks who is buying the celebratory drinks, Karl gets off and Libby and Susan laugh.
Number 24
Harold brings a drink over to Dee and Emily at the table saying that next Monday it will be a year since he lost Madge. Dee apologises saying if she'd known about Emily's friend she wouldn't have said anything. Harold dismisses this saying Emily chose well. Dee wonders how Harold will spend Monday- he says he will go to visit her, not to say goodbye but to say hello because she's always there with them.
Number 28
Susan is ironing as Ellie comes in. Susan says she knows Ellie lied to her and although she accepts that Ellie was there she knows Michelle was in on it too. Susan goes to talk to Michelle but Ellie stops her saying she can't because Joe's there and her and her dad are having a hard time at the moment. Ellie tells Susan she doesn't care about the punishment, it she tells Joe she'll never forgive her...ever.
