Lou and Ben's garage
Hannah bangs on the door shouting for help, while Claire tries to pick the lock on the phone to no avail. They wonder if someone will come past and find them, but doubt it since it is so late.
No. 32
Amy arrives with the confession tape for Toadie and Lance. They put it in the hi-fi and rewind it, but it starts making a clicking noise. Toadie thumps it and when they eject it the tape has been chewed up. Toadie says "Houston we have a problem". Ruth comes in and says she hopes that it's not one of her tapes, but Lance says it isn't.
No. 26
Harold is getting worked up about the girls' disappearance and Madge warns him about his blood pressure. He remembers the Girards are due to call them tonight and he doesn't know what to tell them, but Madge says if they aren't home they can't take the call. Debbie and Michael return from searching for the girls without any success. There is a knock at the door, and Harold thinks it is them. Philip says they have a key and wouldn't need to knock. It is Ruth at the door and Philip introduces her to Michael and Rosemary.
The garage
Claire and Hannah try unsuccessfully to force the door open with a bar. Claire apologises for suggesting they hide their, but Hannah says she is the one who should be sorry since it was her idea to run away. Claire says it's OK since she had nothing better to do.
No. 32
Lance is completing the job of carefully winding the tape back onto the reel. Amy holds it still while he screws the cassette cover back on, then she moves and drops the whole lot on the floor. Bonnie picks up one end of the tape in her mouth and runs off to the kitchen chased by Lance and Amy. Toadie just sits on the sofa shaking his head.
The garage
Hannah and Claire are sitting in one of the cars. Claire is telling Hannah her family have cars that are grey and boring, and she wants a sexy sports car when she's older. They hear someone at the door and go to shout for help. It's the security guard who wants to know what they are doing there. They tell him they couldn't get out because of the truck, and he says they broke in and is taking them to the police.
No. 26
Philip brings the girls home safely, and says it's lucky he is it part owner of the garage or they would have been in more serious trouble. Claire and Rosemary converse in French, but Rosemary says she's a bit rusty, then Harold and Madge take Claire home. Ruth leaves and Philip suggests they should catch up tomorrow. After he closes the door, Philip gives Hannah one of those 'in the dog house' type of looks.
No. 24
Claire is talking to her father on the phone. Harold says it's lucky they got home just in time before he called, but everything is fine now. Madge says she could have done without the trip to the police station. Claire gets angry saying "Mais papa non!" and they go to see what is wrong. After she gets off the phone Claire tells them that she told her father about the days events and he wants her to go home straight away. Madge asks if she explained that she was helping out a friend and about Helen, but she says he thinks it was her idea to run away.
No. 26 living room
Philip is talking to the whole family about how they are feeling at the moment. Hannah says when her mum died she thought Helen would always be there for her. Debbie tries to cheer her up by offering to make her an iced coffee. She declines, but Debbie and Michael go into the kitchen to get a drink anyway. Philip persuades her to go with them since they need cheering up as well. Rosemary remains and says it is worse for her since she didn't even get to say goodbye. Philip says Helen must have realised something was wrong, since she had given him something for her. He hadn't opened it but Helen had said "Give that to Rosemary if the worst happens". It is a pouch containing a small box, and when Rosemary opens it she find out it is Helen's wedding ring.
The school
Toadie's new plan for Amy and Lance is video. Amy says she can't hide a video camera up her jumper, but the plan is that he will hide a camera up a tree and Amy and Jacinta will sit on the bench underneath while it records the conversation since he has borrowed the camera from the audio visual lab. Amy is sceptical that Jacinta will confess a second time to her, but Lance says his future is at stake. Toadie also asks her to make sure Jacinta speaks up in case the microphone isn't that sensitive. Amy sarcastically asks why he doesn't just get her to broadcast it over the PA. Toadie says that is Plan B!
No. 24
Claire brings her packed suitcase out ready to leave. Then she said friends shouldn't leave like this and goes over to see Hannah. Harold is sitting at the dining table writing the eulogy and Madge asks how it is going. Harold says it is difficult to do her justice. Madge thinks back to her wedding to Michael Daniels where Paul gave her away, and we see some shots of her on her way to the church. Harold says Helen had class, and Madge says no one could accuse her of not living her life.
Cleaner's cupboard at school
Toadie is getting the camera ready when Lance burst in a tells him that Amy and Jacinta's class got out early. Toadie tells him there isn't time for him to rig the camera up before they get there, so Lance says the only way is for Toadie to go up the tree with the camera himself.
No. 24
Madge is talking to Claire father on the phone, while Harold is still writing the eulogy. Claire and Hannah come from Claire's room, and Madge says that her father wants a word with her. She gets excited when he tells her she can stay. Madge says he was quite reasonable when she explained the circumstances. The girls go to unpack again, and Harold says "Well done" to Madge.
School playground
Toadie tries to get comfortable up the tree as Amy and Jacinta arrive. Jacinta wonders why Amy wants to sit there instead of their usual place, but Amy says she wants a change. Amy sees Toadie up the tree and tries to get Jacinta to talk about how she got Lance into trouble. Jacinta says Amy things about Lance too much, and is more interested in photos in Teen Girl of a hunk called Nathan. Toadie looks on impatiently.
No. 32
Philip calls to see Ruth. She asks him if he wants coffee, but he says he only called because Rosemary wanted to use the computer and he had to get out of the house for a while. He tells her about the family meeting they had the night before, and how Hannah doesn't seem to be coping as well as Debbie and Michael who are older. Ruth says in all the concern about them he is forgetting about his own grief. He says everything in the house reminds him of Helen.
No. 26
Rosemary is on the computer. Debbie asks her what she is doing, and says she is going to clean her room for something to do. Rosemary asks if she can have a word with her, and tells her about Helen's wedding ring asking if she minds it going to her. Debbie says she doesn't if that is what Helen wanted. Rosemary says she doesn't want her to feel she got preferential treatment. Debbie says she is Helen's daughter, but Rosemary points out she's her adopted daughter. Debbie says she is sorry about what happened between in America. She says "It's never too late to apologise", then they both realise that is something Helen would have said too.
No. 24
Harold is still struggling with the eulogy, and Madge suggests he shouldn't emphasise her painting so much. Claire and Hannah finish unpacking, and Madge has made them sandwiches. Hannah says "merci beaucoup" and Claire says "tres bien" that she is learning. Hannah asks Harold how he is going, and he tries to hide the eulogy from her. Hannah says it's OK and that Claire had already told her what he was doing. Hannah offers to help and they all agree it is a good idea. She remembers some of the fun things Helen did like the time she was in the play with Cheryl and we see shots of her as the head in the box. Suddenly Hannah stops and they ask what's wrong. She realises it's the first time she has thought about Helen without crying.
School playground
Amy tells Jacinta she admires her for all the clever things she does, like how she got Lance into trouble. Jacinta finally starts to talking about and Toadie begins recording. Then he loses his balance and ends up hanging upside down from the branch above them.
