Number 26
Philip is on the phone, cancelling the arrangements he made to stay in Perth. He and Julie are kissing as he does so, and Lucy tells them to stop smooching so Helen can open her special present from the family - which is a vase. Everyone is in a cheerful mood, but Paul seems heavily distracted.
HANNAH: Are you pleased about Dad, too?
PAUL: Pleased?
HANNAH: Now he's not going to Perth. Now you don't have to find a new manager.
PAUL: (insincerely) Mmm, that is a load off my mind.
Helen can't decide where to put the vase, and Paul suggests that she put it in her bedroom so it can be a source of inspiration every time she wakes up.
HELEN: But I want to put it somewhere everyone can see it.
DEBBIE: That depends on who you invite into your bedroom!
Everyone laughs, and Philip says that they should be getting home.
LUCY: Oh, an early night, eh?!
Julie explains that Philip needs to collect his things from Lassiter's, but Lucy keeps up the teasing! Helen thanks them for making her day, and the Martin family all happily troop home.
LUCY: Don't do anything I wouldn't do!
HANNAH: What does she mean?
DEBBIE: (laughing) Oh, nothing!
Paul doesn't say a word, and carries on staring into space.
The Coffee Shop
Cheryl is having a bit of a gossip to Lou about Doug and how he can't hold his drink, and Lou tells her to give it a rest - Doug's got a lot on his mind. Cheryl is surprised, but Lou's grumpy over Cheryl's marriage announcement. She didn't give him a chance to say yes or no before she announced it to half of Ramsay Street. Cheryl tells him that she just got carried away, but Lou reckons that's her problem!
Cheryl thinks that getting carried away by life is a good thing but Lou's annoyed that he didn't get a say in whether or not he marries Cheryl, and he's locked into it whether he likes it or not! Cheryl tells him that they're made for each other - they have the same interests, the same attitudes and with all of her money, they can go to fancy restaurants, drive fast cars and go on trips around the world. Cheryl wonders who could say no to that. (Forget Lou, hell, I'll marry Cheryl!)
Number 30
Mark, Stephen, Wayne, Rick and Phoebe are having a wind down after the party. As they're talking, Rick goes off to get some biscuits. Phoebe is extremely grateful to Wayne for everything that he's done with Stephen to get him walking again. Stephen comments on how Brad and Beth had a good time, and Phoebe wonders if they'll get back together. Wayne thinks it's likely - especially if Brad hangs around. Mark wants Lucy to stay around. He claims he wants to get to know her better, but Stephen and Phoebe laugh knowingly.
Stephen and Phoebe aren't sure what to do about their record store plans - they either look for another site, or continue working in the Coffee Shop. Phoebe thinks that the money might be safer in the bank after all but Mark enthuses about how they wanted to run their own shop. Wayne thinks that they shouldn't rush into anything - with the Coffee Shop, they've got secure jobs so they can afford to take their time. He goes to hunt down Rick and the biscuits - and he finds him stuffing his face.
WAYNE: Hey, I thought you were fetching them, not eating them!
RICK: Official biscuit taster - quality control!
Wayne tells him to buck up his ideas at school and Rick says he has a few things on his mind. Wayne knows he's talking about Debbie, but warns Rick that if he doesn't get his head down to it, he's going to find himself in real strife in exam time.
RICK: Yeah, well, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. And the way things are out there, I won't get a job anyway. Exams or no exams! So why bother?
WAYNE: Cause an education's important, Rick. No matter what.
RICK: Yeah, well, tell it to the kids on the dole!
Number 26
Helen doesn't understand why Paul doesn't want to sleep at Number 26, but he reckons that it's better for him business-wise if he stays at the hotel. Helen wonders if he's going to be so busy that she won't see him, but Paul reassures her.
PAUL: So, do you think Julie and Philip are back together for good this time?
HELEN: Mmm, it certainly seems that way.
PAUL: Mmm.
HELEN: You have doubts?
PAUL: ...no! No, not at all!
He makes a sharp exit.
PAUL: See you, Munchkin!
LUCY: Make sure you do!
Helen drags Lucy into the kitchen so that they can have a cup of tea and a chat. Lucy's only staying for a week or so, which dismays Helen, but Lucy has to be in Europe in time for the modelling season. Apparently David says that if they crack the international market, the sky is the limit. Lucy raves about how everything she's achieved so far is down to David. Helen is beaming with pride about how much Lucy and Paul have achieved in the world.
Number 32
Julie gives Debbie and Hannah some hot chocolate and Philip finishes off his unpacking.
HANNAH: Dad?
PHILIP: Yes, Button?
HANNAH: You are staying, aren't you?
PHILIP: Of course I am.
HANNAH: Really and truly?
PHILIP: Really and truly.
HANNAH: Not just for one night?
PHILIP: Not just for one night - forever!
HANNAH: Promise?
PHILIP: Promise.
HANNAH: Cross your heart and hope to die?
PHILIP: Cross my heart and hope to die.
(Damn, no wonder that kid's screwed up after all of the messing around Philip and Julie have been doing!)
Julie assures Hannah that Philip really is staying, and shoos Hannah off to sit and drink her hot chocolate. Julie takes her place, sitting on Philip's lap and says that they're making a brand new start. They start to kiss and Debbie drags Hannah off so that Philip and Julie can have some privacy.
Number 24
Rick is pushing his cornflakes around his bowl. Lou tells him to get a shift on if he wants a lift to school, but Rick's reluctant to go because he thinks it's a waste of time. Lou warns him that you need qualifications to get on in life, but Rick confides that he's too far behind to succeed in the exams anyway. His job at Lassiter's has meant that he's fallen too far behind and Rick says that if someone offered him a full time position with decent wages, he'd leave school like a shot.
Lou doesn't think that such an opportunity is likely, and he goes to wake Lauren...only he discovers that she's not there.
Number 30
Stephen is tidying away some cups, and Phoebe tells him not to overdo it. Stephen tells her that he's still keen on the record store idea and he rang some estate agents whilst she was in bed, so he's got some places lined up for them to look at. He says he was up half of the night thinking of names and he likes, "In The Groove." Phoebe groans. He suggests "Hi-Fi Heaven" instead but Phoebe thinks that sounds like somewhere where stereos go to die! He then suggests "CD or not CD" (give up, Stevo, they're all awful!) - but Phoebe hates that too.
She tells him that she doesn't really care about the name - she's just pleased that things seem to be working out for them. Stephen declares his love for her, saying that he couldn't have got through the last month without her. Phoebe reckons it was them being a partnership that did it - and that's what being married is all about.
STEPHEN: We did say for better or worse, huh? And now it's time for the better.
They kiss.
Number 32
Debbie is still in her pyjamas but she's getting Hannah ready for school and telling her off for being behind. Hannah points out that Debbie's not dressed, but Debbie ignores her and sorts out her lunch.
HANNAH: Where's Mum and Dad?
DEBBIE: They're still asleep.
HANNAH: No, they're not. I heard noises.
Debbie pauses!
HANNAH: Well, aren't they going to have breakfast?
DEBBIE: (grinning) Not this morning.
HANNAH: Oh, I'll go and see if they want anything.
Debbie pulls Hannah back quite urgently!
DEBBIE: Hey, no!
HANNAH: Why not? Anyway, Dad said he'd drive me to school.
DEBBIE: You'll have to walk with Nicholas and his Mum.
HANNAH: OH! He promised!
DEBBIE: Hannah, would you listen to me?! Dad hasn't been alone with Mum for a long time; he doesn't want to drive you to school today - he's got other things on his mind.
Hannah takes her schoolbag off Debbie and as yells out as she passes Philip and Julie's bedroom.
HANNAH: (sing-song) I HOPE THEY'RE OUT OF BED BY THE TIME I GET HOOOOME!
She leaves, and Debbie laughs to herself.
DEBBIE: I wouldn't count on it(!)
Number 26
Lucy is talking about modelling. Wayne thinks it sounds exciting, and Paul quizzes her on which agencies are interested in having her on their books. Lucy says she doesn't know which ones specifically - she leaves all of that to her manager. Paul wants to know about which city she's starting in, but Lucy's very vague - she doesn't seem to know much about any of it, and completely trusts David. Paul isn't impressed - he thinks David's job, as manager, is to keep Lucy up to date as well.
PAUL: Just exactly what sort of guy is this David?
LUCY: A very nice man. And close friend. And I trust him completely.
Lucy asks Wayne for information on Mark Gottlieb - she wants to know what a good looking guy like that is doing in Erinsborough! (Yeah, because Ramsay Street is usually populated by trolls, right, Lucy? Wayne, Brad, Rick..they're all hideous..!). Helen tells Lucy that Mark and Wayne aren't exactly friends, and wonders why Lucy isn't interested in Brad any more. Lucy thinks it'd be suicide to get between Brad and Beth!
Number 24
Lou's on the phone to Lauren's mother, trying to track down Lauren - but he just gets an earful and the blame! Cheryl comments that she's old enough to look after herself, and tells him not to get worked up about it, but Lou's very worried. Cheryl thinks that she's keeping a low profile following her behaviour at Helen's party and she'll return when she's over her embarrassment.
Lou hopes she's right, and they discuss Connor and the chances that she's followed him to Hong Kong. Lou thinks it's unlikely, as Lauren was so convinced that she'd burnt her bridges where he was concerned, but Cheryl's comments make him think that calling the stables to see if they have Connor's contact details is a good idea.
Number 32
Debbie is lying on the sofa watching television when Julie finally emerges (still in her nightwear) from her bedroom. Julie's very surprised to see Debbie there.
JULIE: What about school? You're not even dressed.
DEBBIE: Neither are you.
JULIE: That's a different thing!
Julie wonders if Debbie is ill but Debbie doesn't think that she can face the fallout from the Darren situation. Julie reminds her that she'll have to face up to it at some point, but Debbie says that she won't if she never goes back! Julie's sympathetic, but is firm that Debbie has to carry on with her schooling. Debbie completely ignores Julie when she tells her to get dressed and picks up a magazine instead! In the background, Philip emerges - dressed for work - from his bedroom.
JULIE: Did you hear what I said?!
Debbie is silent. Philip wanders over, tying his tie.
PHILIP: What's going on?
JULIE: It's Debbie. She's refusing to go to school.
DEBBIE: I don't want to!
JULIE: YOU ARE GOING.
DEBBIE: No. I'm not!
Philip grins.
PHILIP: Nice to see things are back to normal!
The Coffee Shop
Stephen thinks that they've found the perfect shop - and they can even live above it. Phoebe thinks that they shouldn't take the first one they see. Stephen thinks that's a daft attitude - it's perfect for them, and vacant, so if they don't take it, someone else will! Phoebe thinks it's all moving too fast.
Rick walks in just as Phoebe starts saying that they can't walk out on Cathy and the Coffee Shop. He asks what's going on, and they tell Rick that they're thinking of leaving. Rick urges them to go for it. Stephen is pleased with his enthusiasm and says that he'll ring Cathy and tell her that they're going. Rick stops him, and says that he'll ring instead. He makes up some story about Cathy being with Benito on a business trip to Japan, so it'll cost them a lot of money to call, whereas he was going to ring later anyway. It's clear he's plotting something!
Lassiter's Manager's Office
Paul is rooting through the filing system. Philip asks him what he's looking for, and when Paul gives him a vague answer, Philip tries to point him in the right direction. However, it's very clear that Paul doesn't want Philip's help - nor does he want him knowing what he's looking for. Philip starts to quiz Paul but Rick bursts in and interrupts. Philip tries to brush him off, but Rick has decided to quit Lassiter's. Philip is surprised, as he knew Rick was working to fund his way through school, but Rick assures him that he's got a new venture under way. He refuses to divulge any more details!
Lassiter's Office Reception
Rick and Debbie run into each other. Rick's pleased that Debbie hasn't ended up in Perth. He tells Debbie that he's quit his job, and school - and Debbie is dismayed, guessing that he's moving up to Sydney to be with Cathy and Benito. Rick assures her that he's staying around, but he can't tell her more until he's ironed out the details. He runs off.
The Coffee Shop
Hannah asks Lucy if she'll send her a postcard from everywhere she goes! Lucy promises, and Hannah mentions that she's been bragging about her at school! Phoebe comments on how exciting Lucy's life is, and seems a bit unhappy with her own.
PHOEBE: So, is there anyone special in your life at the moment?
HANNAH: I bet there is! I bet he's a famous photographer or something.
Lucy tells them that they could say that she's married to her work, and that suits her fine. Mark walks in.
MARK: Hi. Remember me?
PHOEBE: Oh, once seen, never forgotten!
MARK: Do you mind if I join you?
LUCY: Be my guest!
Phoebe takes a reluctant Hannah off to help her, leaving Mark and Lucy alone. Mark asks her on a date, and Lucy agrees.
Number 32
Julie and Wayne are sitting in the living room. Philip and Debbie walk in and are arguing about whether or not she's going back to school. Philip's a bit surprised to see Wayne. It turns out Julie invited him over to talk some sense into Debbie. Debbie thinks that everyone is against her, and that they don't have a clue.
Wayne admits that it'll be difficult and mentions that the whole school is talking about her! (Isn't he supposed to be helping?!) Debbie is upset at this, and says that it'll be even worse now that Rick's quit school too. Wayne suggests that Debbie stay off school for the rest of the term so that the dust can settle, and he'll bring work for her so that she can keep up with the workload. After the holidays, he reckons the kids will have forgotten all about it. Philip and Julie are unsure, but eventually agree. Debbie is very pleased.
Number 26
Lucy is telling Hannah about Japan and modelling in general. Helen comes in and tells Lucy that David rang for her, and wouldn't say what he wanted. Helen isn't impressed with his attitude, as he was brusque with her. Apparently, he said to call him back before 5, and Lucy realises with horror that it's 5 past. Helen thinks that 5 minutes won't matter but Lucy tells her that she doesn't know David. Lucy only gets the answering machine and wonders what he wanted.
Number 24
Lou runs for the door, but it's Cheryl. He can't find Lauren at all. Cheryl suggests calling the police, and Lou panics even more. He gives them a call.
Number 30
Lucy pops around to see Beth, and upon seeing the boxes everywhere, comments on how quickly Stephen and Phoebe have embarked on their move. Beth is looking for a new place to live. Lucy suggests staying at Number 30 but Beth can't afford it. Lucy tells her to move back into Number 26 with Helen, as Helen's used to taking in strays! Lucy tells Beth not to move too far from Brad and digs for information.
The Coffee Shop
Rick walks in and Phoebe asks if he's rung Cathy. He says that he has, and she knows someone who can take over straight away. Phoebe is relieved and wants to get onto sorting things straight away. Rick offers to fill in so that she can get on.
PHOEBE: Are you sure you can manage?
RICK: Hey, I'm an Alessi - it's in the blood!
Phoebe leaves and Rick is very very pleased with himself!
