Adam asking both Caroline and Chrissie out on a date.
Adam says this is a right mess, he asked both the twins out thinking they were the same person! Caroline wants to know what they are going to do, she thinks they should just cancel but Chrissie suggests that they all go to see a film. Adam thinks this is a great idea (well, who wouldn't?) and despite Caroline's protests they head off to see Dick Tracy!
Ryan brings Annabelle some Champagne for her birthday just as Dorothy returns from her trip. Ryan wasn't expecting her back for a few days and is surprised. Dorothy notices that Annabelle has some Champagne of hers! Ryan is a bit flustered by this so Dorothy heads off for a bath. Ryan then gives Annabelle some expensive looking earrings, Dorothy pops back in and notices the present, she wants to know whose sports car is parked in the drive way, it's Annabelle's, the young couple leave and Dorothy is clearly not impressed with Annabelle.
Helen is giving Melanie some old kitchen stuff for her flat, Helen thinks Trev (Melanie's kitten) is a bloke and we get a blast of Melanie's laugh. Jim and Beverly then return.
MELANIE: I'm so sorry about the baby Beverly. It must have been horrible losing it like that.
BEVERLY: It's not an it, it was a girl.
Melanie apologises and Jim says it's OK; Helen shoves Melanie out of the door to go outside and look at some paintings! Jim sits down with Beverly, he's cleared his diary so they can spend time together but Beverly says she is going straight back to work. Jim is not happy but Beverly says she must stay busy and Jim relents.
Chrissie didn't enjoy the move too much but Caroline does, they talk about Adam's studying to be a Doctor. He says he is in medicine to make money, Caroline believes him but Chrissie knows he's joking; the girls compete for Adam's attention by asking him lots of questions.
Ryan returns home and he says he is fed up of Annabelle's friends competing about money. Dorothy is concerned that Ryan spent all of his money on his present; Ryan says he has to impress Annabelle because her parents are very rich.
DOROTHY: Oh and we are just the poor people living in squalor
Ryan says he is embarrassed when he brings Annabelle home and runs off to bed.
The girls laugh at every joke Adam tells, Caroline answers the door to Melanie who wants to borrow some blankets. Adam announces that he will be living in number 28 with his parents; the girls are delighted at this news. Melanie says she is missing some pigs so if he finds any to let her know! Adam offers to give Melanie a lift home and says goodnight to the twins. Chrissie thinks Adam will ask one of them out on a date, Caroline says he won't but Chrissie is worried as they both like him.
Ryan comes in and asks for some money but Dorothy doesn't have any so she goes to the Emergency Fund. Ryan distracts her by asking about her trip.
Helen thinks Beverly and Jim should go away for a few days but Beverly insists on going back to work but she is going to cut down her hours. Jim goes off to help Des; Helen tried again to persuade Beverly to take some time off.
BEVERLY: Jim seems happy to accept my decision. I'd like it if you did the same
The Coffee Shop
Melanie sees Ryan and he tells her how he is broke, she can't end him any money
MELAINE: With the rent and flat bond you could say I'm flat broke!
Ryan looks puzzled.
MELANIE (Laughing): Flat broke, get it?
RYAN: Oh yeah.
Inside the twins quiz Melanie on what Adam said during their ride home last night but she doesn't give anything away. Caroline says Adam asked her out first so she should be able to go out with him, Chrissie responds by saying they have a rule that they don't ever date the same guy and they should both keep away from him.
MELANIE: Just keep your hands off Adam and there's no problem
Neither girl looks happy about this!
Des has finished packing, Jim is worried about Beverly and Des says he will pop in to see how he is. Adam comes in to collect the keys; Jim leaves also as Des wants to be alone. He has one last final walk round the house.
Jim is now home and Helen thinks he should try harder to get Beverly to stop working. Dorothy is now here so Jim goes to his room! Helen tells Dorothy that her father has agreed to go to Alcoholics Anonymous, Dorothy is pleased but is less so when Helen tells her about the binge he was on a few days ago, and Helen starts to tell the story of what happened.
A woman comes in with a young baby called Emily, the mother says she has been grizzly, as Beverly picks the baby up she becomes upset.
Adam knocks on the door and Caroline answers; Adam is pleased until Chrissie appears who tells him they all have to be friends.
The baby has a bruise on her leg because she fell off the sofa; the mother says it was nothing serious.
BEVERLY: I'll decide if it's nothing serious.
MOTHER: I don't have time to bring her down for every scratch and bump she gets.
BEVERLY: A good mother would make time.
As Des enters reception, the mother tells Beverly that she knows nothing about being a mother and Beverly slaps her. Des comes into the room, the mother leaves but before she does she says she ring the police, Beverly is in tears.
