No.24
Mr Webb from the church choir is talking to Harold in the living room.
In the kitchen, Madge tells Sharon that Mr Webb is trying to persuade Harold to run for the local council.
SHARON: Harold? In government?
MADGE: I know, frightening isn't it!
In the living room, Mr Webb says that Harold has a lot of support in the community. He reckons Harold is a born leader! Harold is quite flattered, but isn't sure that he'd be elected. He says he'll think about it though. Mr Webb says there's a council meeting tonight at the Town Hall - Harold could check it out to see what happens down there.
Madge and Sharon can't believe Harold is seriously considering running for council.
MADGE: From Peeping Tom to council member in a week! You could be Prime Minister by the end of the month!
Robinsons
Jim is brooding. He wants to call Beverly, but doesn't know what to say, so he puts the phone back down. Paul calls round and is concerned to see Jim so down in the dumps. Jim tells him about his visit from Ewan and his declaration of love for Beverly. Paul says maybe Jim should ask Beverly for her side of the story - Ewan's feelings for Beverly doesn't mean that she reciprocates. Paul says that it's better to know the truth than keep worrying about it.
No.30
Dorothy is on the phone when Lochy comes in looking like Cousin It off the Adams family. It seems she fell in the fountain in the park - the bricks around the edge gave way when she was walking on them.
No.22
Eddie comes round looking for Christina. He's got news for her - tickets for a disco tomorrow night. Paul looks very unenthusiastic - he was going to ask Christina to come to a business dinner with him since Caroline can't make it. But he admits that Christina would probably prefer to dance her heart out that go to his stuffy business dinner.
Outside Beverly's flat
Jim has come to see Beverly, but Ewan is already there, helping her to carry her things in. Jim looks stricken.
Inside Beverly's flat
Beverly and Ewan are talking about the separation. Beverly says she feels numb and a bit dazed about it. Ewan says that although he has a vested interest in her leaving Jim, he won't pressure her. He's willing to be her friend. He squeezes her hand.
BEVERLY: I'm here because Jim doesn't trust me and I can't live with that.
EWAN: It's going to be alright.
BEVERLY: That's what I needed to hear.
No.24
Eddie thinks it's a great idea that Harold runs for council. Madge isn't chuffed - they only see each other about five minutes a week in any case. Sharon thinks that Madge has a point. Harold says that even if he does run, there's no guarantee that he'll be elected. Eddie offers to be his campaign manager!
No.30
Dorothy tells Lochy off for picking flowers in the park - she should pick them from Dorothy's garden instead. Dorothy has decided to go to the council meeting tonight to raise the issue of the fountain. Lochy doesn't fancy going to Kerry's while Dorothy is out, she says it's very depressing at the Mangel household at the moment. Joe's up in Darwin fetching Toby.
Outside Beverly's flat
Jim has been waiting ages for Ewan to leave, but he's still in there.
Inside Beverly's flat
Ewan suggests that he and Beverly get something to eat to sustain them in their research.
EWAN: Do you think you'll go back to Jim.
BEVERLY: I honestly don't know. I love Jim, and I value our marriage...I need some breathing space. But I can't just abandon my commitments. I guess I'll keep trying and see what happens.
EWAN: Well, if you need a sounding board...I'm here. I'd better get going.
BEVERLY: You're being a good friend, Ewan. I'm grateful.
Outside Beverly's flat
Jim drives away just as Ewan leaves.
No.22
Paul is on the phone to a woman called Crystal. He invites her out to a business dinner tomorrow night.
PAUL: Oh. Oh, I didn't know. When did you get married?! ...That was quick! You'll send me an invite to the christening though, won't you?!
Christina can't believe that Paul is going through his little black book, rolling her eyes. She looks quite insulted not to have been asked herself.
CHRISTINA: Maybe you should look a bit closer to home.
Paul says that Caroline is busy(!)
Ramsay Street
Madge tells Lochy off for picking flowers from her garden. She marches Lochy over to Dorothy and tells her to control her better. Dorothy isn't impressed.
No.22
Paul still hasn't found a date and he's run out of people in his little black book. Christina is getting quite upset now and marches off to her room.
CHRISTINA: I've been meaning to give my wardrobe a spring-clean, I might as well do it tonight.
Paul suddenly gets the idea to ask the new receptionist at work!
Ramsay Street
Harold and Eddie are off to the Council Meeting and meet Dorothy on the way. Harold offers Dorothy a lift. She tells Harold that she'd support him in an election campaign.
