Recap
Helen tells Jim and Beverly that she's sick of their bickering so she's decided to move out. Beverly says there's no need - she's going to move out instead.
Robinsons
Jim is shocked and tells Beverly there's no need for her to go - they can sort things out like they always do. Beverly says that they've had to sort things out loads of time before, and now it's time for a trial separation. She thinks it's the only way to save their marriage.
JIM: You do want to save the marriage, don't you? Or is this just an excuse to run away?
BEVERLY: Of course it's not. I do want to save this marriage, Jim! My only hope is that we haven't left it too late.
Coffee Shop
Cody and Todd are having a milkshake. Cody says Todd was very heroic in stopping his bike to check she was OK. They agree to meet at the track tomorrow. She kisses him on the cheek and Todd looks chuffed.
No.22
Paul thinks that Jim and Beverly's problems will blow over by the morning, but Helen isn't so sure. She blames Jim mainly, for his niggling jealousy over Ewan. Paul thinks this is a bit unfair and says that Jim has good reason to be jealous(!) Helen says the Beverly's word is good enough for her - there's nothing going on with Ewan.
PAUL: Oh, come on, Gran! Beverly is being deliberately provocative and God knows she knows how to do that.
HELEN: She isn't doing anything of the sort and I'll thank you not to encourage your father to think that she is. Oh, you and Jim are cast in the same mould. Your quarrels with Beverly are born out of the same pig-headedness.
Helen says she'll stay on at the house now for the sake of Jim and Todd.
Robinsons
Beverly tells Jim that she'll sleep in the spare room tonight. The phone rings and it's Russell (Ryan's father) calling about Todd's motorbike.
JIM:(to Todd) So you went behind our backs and bought a motorbike.
TODD: Yeah, it wasn't fair that I couldn't have one.
JIM: In your opinion!
TODD: I saved it!
JIM: That's not the point! The point is that you deliberately disobeyed Beverly. You know how she feels about motorbikes.
TODD: But she...
JIM: No buts! How could you be so stupid as to think we wouldn't find out about it? Of all the... Todd, I'm not going to get involved in another wrangle with Beverly about this. You're going to have to tell her yourself what you've done.
He says that Todd will have to speak to Beverly in the morning.
No.32, the following morning
Matt has come round to ask if Kerry has heard anything more about the bike-riders. Lester has told her they're around, so they agree to meet up and go out there at lunch time.
Robinsons
Todd is confessing to Beverly about the bike. She isn't impressed and can't believe he's blatantly gone against her. She says the bike will have to go. Todd is very upset and says that everyone his age has a trail bike. Beverly says it's for his own good.
BEVERLY: And there's another thing. You and I will be moving into the flat behind the surgery for a while.
TODD: Why?
BEVERLY: Jim and I have decided that we need some time apart.
TODD:(gutted) You're separating. Well that's great isn't it! Some family this turned out to be. When Katie and I first came here we thought it'd be different, you know, a real family. Well that was a joke, wasn't it!
BEVERLY: Todd, it's not like that, it's only for a while
TODD: Yeah, that's what my mum said. I'm not going anywhere. And I'm not getting rid of my trail bike either.
He stalks off to his bedroom.
National Park
Todd is telling Melissa, Josh and Cody about the separation. He says he's thinking he might move back to Adelaide. Ryan turns up on his bike and Todd is upset that Ryan's father rang Jim. But apparently he found Todd's bike at his please and got the rest of the story out of Lochy.
Todd says he has to get rid of the trail bike, but he says he's not going to.
Robinsons
Beverly has gone to take her possessions over to the flat behind the surgery. Jim tells Helen that he's sad that things have got so out of hand.
JIM: None of this would have happened if Ewan hadn't come on the scene.
HELEN: Oh, don't kid yourself. There was friction here long before he arrived.
Helen tells Jim to stop looking for scape-goats - it's his own jealousy that's caused this. Helen suggests that he tries talking things over with Beverly again. Apparently she's very shaken at Todd's reaction to the news.
HELEN: Jim, you and Beverly owe yourselves another hearing.
JIM: I'll talk to her when she gets back. You know I still love her, don't you?
HELEN: Yes, I know.
National Park
Kerry and Matt have come to see Lester the warden. There's no answer at his house which is odd because Kerry rang ahead to say they were coming.
Meanwhile, in another part of the park, the trail-bikers are riding around. Lester approaches Boof, Josh, Ryan and Todd and tells them to get off the property. Boof tells them that he can't do anything to stop them.
BOOF: Now, push off. Or I'll smash your face in.
JOSH: Leave the poor old guy alone, meat-head.
BOOF: Poor old guy nothing. You're just a trouble maker. Now are you going to mind your own business?
LESTER: It is my business. I've lived here for years. I won't have my park torn to bits by the likes of you.
BOOF: Oh, your park, eh? You must be a real big guy if this is your park.
He pushes Lester to the ground.
Ryan stand up to Boof and tells him not to pick on pensioners. Josh and Ryan help Lester up.
Robinsons
Jim tells Beverly that Todd can stay on with him if it'll make things easier.
BEVERLY: No, I'd rather he was with me. At least I know he's not out risking his neck on a trail bike!
Jim rolls his eyes and says he didn't even know about the bike. Jim asks Beverly to stay and work things out. But they she thinks they need some time apart - it'll make them realise if they're really meant to be together.
BEVERLY: If you want me for anything, I'll be at the surgery.
JIM: I suppose dear Ewan will be there too.
BEVERLY: After everything I've said, you don't understand, do you?
She walks out.
National Park
Kerry and Matt are still waiting outside Lester's house. He eventually comes home, helped by Ryan. He is coughing a bit and is very angry about the kids. Ryan explains what happened. He thought Lester was alright, but later he seemed disorientated, so he brought him home.
Kerry explains Ryan that the trail bikes are doing a lot of harm to the vegetation which lead to soil erosion. He didn't realise the impact they were having, but they have nowhere else to ride. Matt gets Lester a glass of water.
LESTER: I'll teach those hooligans a lesson they won't forget in a hurry.
KERRY: I'm sure you will, Lester. Just get your breath back first!
Robinsons
Jim is looking sadly at a photo of Beverly when Paul comes in. He's come to see if Jim wants some lunch. Jim says he's acted like and idiot, but Paul says that any man would be jealous. Jim tells Paul not to criticise Beverly - it's all his fault.
JIM: She's such a special woman, I love her so much. I really do. I don't know what I'll do if she won't come back to me.
National Park
Ryan doesn't think Boof and his mates can be reasoned with. Lester says he's "fixed" the problem. He tells them that he's put a length of wire across the track where they race.
MATT: Lester, you could kill somebody.
LESTER: Eh?
KERRY: A boy was decapitated recently after that sort of prank.
Lester gets worried, and tells them where the wire is. Matt and Ryan race off.
The track
Six trail bikers are lined up to start a race, including Todd, Cody and Josh. They race off at speed along the track. They approach the wire...
