Paul and Gail's
Kerry is telling Bronwyn that she over-reacted about the casserole. She says that Joe is incredibly insensitive sometimes. Bronwyn tells her that Gail and Paul are having hassles too, although she hasn't seen them much because they've been at work. Kerry reckons that Paul and Gail should pack up and go bush - it's the best way to get yourself together. Bronwyn is a bit worried about Sharon and says that Hilary is too. Kerry says she'd like to do something nice for Hilary - replace some of the birds she let out. Kerry says that Hilary is the most difficult person she's ever met though(!)
Bishops
Harold is making a speech(!) to Madge and Betty to welcome Betty to their home. She insists on calling him Harry. Harold fusses over Betty and ignores Madge, much to Madge's displeasure. Betty admits that she does get lonely on her own and she thinks that Madge and Harold are lucky to have each other. They starts talking about their birthday parties and Madge and Betty get into a bit of an argument - Betty claims she's two years younger than Madge but Madge says she's actually four days older.
Garden of No.30
Bronwyn and Kerry find Hilary unconscious in the garden. Kerry runs off to get an ambulance.
A beach
Sharon and Nick are walking along the waterline. Sharon wants to move on to the next town because the current one is dead. She goes off to ring Bronwyn, but Nick stays on the beach looking sullen.
The Hospital
Beverly tells Bronwyn and Kerry that Hilary will be in hospital for some time - she may have a spinal injury, but has regained consciousness. Kerry guesses that things are serious with Hilary. Beverly admits that it could be.
Paul and Gail's
Sharon is talking to Bronwyn on the phone. She tells her about Hilary's accident. Bronwyn says she wishes Sharon was there - the worry about her isn't going to help Hilary's recovery.
Bishops
Madge is telling Betty all about Lou, but Harold doesn't want to talk about him. Betty keeps flattering Harold and tells Madge she's sorry she beat her to Harold(!) Madge asks why Betty didn't have children and she says she didn't want to lose her figure(!) Harold says that she looks wonderful for her age and he can't believe she was in the same school year as Madge(!)
Near a beach
Sharon is telling Nick about Hilary's accident. She feels really bad and tells Nick that maybe she should go back. Nick says that she's using Hilary's accident as an excuse - they can stay in touch by phone. But Sharon feels like she owes Hilary something. Nick is fed up and says Sharon has done nothing but complain since the day they left. Sharon tells him he's being selfish and starts to walk off. Nick can't let her hitchhike on her own though, so he agrees to come back with her.
The Hospital
Bronwyn and Kerry are visiting Hilary. She says that she hasn't got any feeling in her legs. She says rather vaguely that she'll be alright in a day or two. Hilary tells them that she slipped off the ladder while retrieving one of her birds. Kerry says she feels responsible because she let the birds out. Hilary drifts off to sleep.
Outside the door, Kerry tells Bronwyn that she feels terrible.
Bishops
Harold and Betty are still flirting. Madge comes out dressed up a bit to compete with Betty. Betty starts telling Madge about a stolen kiss with Harold when they were teenagers. She starts to demonstrate until Madge interrupts. She tells Harold he'd better go to bed because he has to get up in the morning to open the Coffee Shop. Betty is therefore forced to leave to get her "beauty sleep". When Harold has gone, Betty admits to Madge that she's had plastic surgery to keep her looks!
When Harold has gone to take Betty to her hotel, Madge slams the door loudly, much to Kerry's surprise who's just come in. They sit down for a cup of tea. Madge complains about Betty, her body and young looks, but Kerry says that Madge doesn't have anything to worry about. Kerry is worried about Hilary, but Madge reckons she'll be as right as rain in a few weeks.
A road
Sharon and Nick are hitchhiking home. They still have 150kms to go though. Nick thinks the whole thing with Hilary is a false alarm but Sharon says if he doesn't want to come any further, he doesn't have to.
Bishops, the following morning
Beverly comes to tell Kerry that Hilary has spinal cord concussion. The doctor in the spinal unit thinks that Hilary's legs are paralysed.
A car
Sharon and Nick get into a car but the driver turns out to be Skinner - the one he turned into the cops for robbing Paul and Gail's house. Skinner pushes Nick out of the car and drives away with Sharon!
