At the bank
Malcolm Clarke is pacing nervously outside Des's office. Des comes out and nervously shakes his hand. Malcolm is delighted to see him and Des drags him into the office for privacy, telling Mike he has to stop Eileen from coming.
At the coffee shop
Eileen buys some cake to take to Des at the bank. She is just leaving when Mrs Mangel comes in and delays her with the news that she has some juicy gossip. She really shouldn't say anything but, well, she does anyway! Paul and Gail have separated! She'll fill her in properly when they go to the club later on. Oh no! Eileen has forgotten, and she's going to the bank to see Desmond. Nell is frustrated with her and says before she knows it Des will have her back in his home, cooking and cleaning.. Eileen rushes out leaving her to shake her head and sigh.
At the bank
Des asks his dad if he got in touch because of the bribe of the inheritance. His dad says a bit of extra money never hurts (!). He reveals he lives in the next suburb and has done for years, he wanted to be around incase Des needed him (yeah right). They chat about Jamie and Malcolm's enthusiasm seems to win Des round a bit. Malcolm says Des and Jamie are all he's got now, but Des hints that that's not entirely true.
Outside Des's office
Eileen arrives, to Mike's alarm. Pete stops her going into the office and says he's with a client. Mike agrees, he's waiting to see him too and has been told it could be all afternoon. Eileen isn't put off and sits down to wait.
Back in the office
Des puts his phone down and tells his father that Sally is getting the first bus down from Newcastle. Pete sticks his head round the door and says "she" is outside waiting. Des tells him to make sure it stays that way. Whilst Des is talking to Pete Malcolm has been doing some thinking - he's not sure he wants to meet Sally and starts to leave. Des says if he opens the door things really will get nasty - his mum's out there (Obviously not Malcolm's mum).
Malcolm paces the floor reminiscing that in his youth any man that walked out on his wife and kids wasn't a man. Des is the one good thing he's done, he wasn't good enough for Eileen. Bluntly he tells his son (his son remember) that a man has certain needs and Eileen didn't go much on that sort of thing (that's Des's mother remember!) and that's where Sally's mum came into things. Des doesn't punch his lights out, instead telling him that he understands. Malcolm is relieved and says if he'd known it would be this easy he'd have done it years ago. Des thinks it will be just as easy with Sally and Malcolm agrees to give things a go, as long as he doesn't have to see Eileen. Des assures him that he is the last person Eileen wants to see.
Outside
Eileen is still waiting with Mike. Mike tries to take her off somewhere quiet so they can talk about her fight with Des. She says there is no need - she's decided to forgive him. Des comes out and apologises for keeping her waiting. Why doesn't he take her to the coffee shop? She fusses and says she can't take him away from the business. He says nonsense, he can spare the time for a cup of coffee and leads her out, telling Pete to show "Mr Smith" out when his bank clearance is all clear...
At the coffee shop
Madge tells Harold she is going to invest her savings in the shares he's so excited about. She sees Henry sitting alone at a table with a face of misery so takes him a cup of coffee to cheer him up and asks why doesn't he give BB a call? Henry walks out protesting that he doesn't want BB, he wants Sally.
Eileen and Des come in. They talk about Sally and how hurt Eileen still is. Des apologises (again) but says Sally is his half sister and he can't pretend she doesn't exist. Unfortunately that is exactly what Eileen does expect him to do. If he won't then there is nothing more for her to say. Des walks out.
Outside
Henry is washing tables when Des tells him Sally is coming back from Newcastle. Suddenly his day is made! He throws his hat in the air and leaps around like a mad thing. Des calms him down and says he doesn't want his mum to find out, so keep it under his hat (which is now floating in the pool).
In the coffee shop kitchen
Eileen is crying because of the scene with Des. Madge asks Harold to leave them alone so she can offer Eileen a shoulder to cry on. She tells Eileen she went through the same thing with Susan and Sam when they arrived - she'd wanted to hate Sam but couldn't, because deep down she knew she was blaming the wrong person. When he left she couldn't have loved him more if he'd been her own baby. And Eileen liked Sally until she found out who she was. Eileen agrees, but is still upset because she'd thought Malcolm couldn't hurt her anymore and she has. Harold interrupts and says Nell is looking for Eileen, to go to the club. Eileen leaves and Madge and Harold ponder what the club could be. Madge suggests maybe it's an amateur gossip club. Harold - "Amateur? Those two? Strictly professional!"
At Mrs Mangel's
Harold returns home to the frightening sight of Nell and Eileen dressed up in their pristine, white bowling uniforms complete with bowling balls and dazzling smiles. Words cannot describe how funny this (very short) scene is.
At the Clarkes
Mike and Henry come home to yet another burnt dinner. Mike says kitchen's self destruct when Des is cooking and asks what the special occasion is. Turns out Malcolm is coming for dinner and Des wanted to impress him. Henry asks what time Sally is arriving. Des is unsure, he knows it's some time today. Mike asks if Henry is doing anything tonight - he wants him to go to a jazz club with him. Very surprisingly Henry agrees and goes home. Des says he thought Mike would hang round and give him some moral support but Mike assures him he'll be fine.
At Mrs Mangel's
Mrs Mangel invites Eileen to stay for dinner and goes off to start preparing. Harold sits down and tells Eileen she has many friends in Erinsborough but she feels she cannot count him as one (he told her earlier that she had to allow Des to see his sister). She asks him to tell Nell she won't be staying for dinner after all. Harold hasn't finished yet and warns her that she'll end up losing everyone she loves if she tries to punish Malcolm by keeping Des from him. That includes Des, Daphne and little Jamie... Eileen walks out.
At the Clarkes
Mike goes off to get jazzed up for his night out while Des and his dad make chit chat about the decorating of the living room. Des warns Malcolm that its only pizza for tea and Malcolm announces he's king of the crumpet (in more ways than one I bet!). They laugh that they have more in common than they thought. The doorbell goes and Des goes to answer it, expecting the pizza man. Of course, us intelligent viewers have already worked out that it's Eileen on the other side of the door - who freezes as she sees who's sitting on the couch making himself at home.
