Paul arrives home from Adelaide tired after his flight. Helen tells him to sit down and tells him to listen. She says the sound of silence is wonderful! Lucy is staying at Vicky's and the rest are at the school dance. Paul says he'll pick the kids up, but Helen says they've paid for a chauffeur-driven car, so she'll do it.
Paul says that business went well in Adelaide - he got two more contracts for Home James.
Scott and Charlene come in and Helen is surprised to see them home so early. They explain about Sue Parker and Jane - they weren't really in the mood after Sue's nastiness so they just came home. Scott says that Jane looked fantastic, but Mike walked home alone.
Mike comes in looking dejected. Des thinks it's a burglar and nearly attacks him with a cricket bat(!) Daphne is still poorly and Des is quite worried about her. Mike is unforthcoming about the dance but finally says that he blew it - he says he kept putting his foot in it and now she thinks Mike only asked her out because she looked better than she used to. Des said he used to be just as awkward with girls - tongue-tied and two left feet. Now he's married to the most wonderful girl in the world, so miracles do happen. Des says it's up to Mike to make things right with Jane.
Ramsays, the following morning
Charlene is explaining what happened at the dance with Sue Parker. Madge isn't looking forward to the computer arriving at the office. Susan is dressed up and is going job-hunting - she says she wants to be independent. Madge says that there's no need to find a creche for Sam - she and Charlene will fill in, and if they can't there's always Mrs Kirkwood who has low rates.
SUSAN: I don't know how I'm going to repay you, Mrs Mitchell.
MADGE: There's no need. And the name's Madge.
Daphne isn't eating and Des is worried. He says he's taking her to the doctor again today.
Mike is feeling a bit better and has decided to talk to Jane about last night. Des tells him to go easy on his aftershave - he took out a girl once who was allergic to aftershave(!)
Clive is examining Graham who is doing better. But he'll still take a long time to get over his injuries - he'll have to convalesce when he's back in the country.
Lucy and Vicky are saying goodbye as Kate, Graham and Vicky are leaving for the country today. Lucy and Vicky sadly hug goodbye and promise to write to each other. Kate tells Lucy that she's been a very good friend to Vicky.
Scott is drying up when Paul comes in - he's still nagging Scott about chores. Paul asks Mike how the dance went, but Scott tells Mike to ignore him - Paul already knows what happened(!)
Charlene comes in and tells him that she saw Jane has going round to his place. Mike runs off to try to catch her.
Jane is looking for Mike, but Des tells her that he isn't there. But just then Mike turns up. He apologises to Jane for last night, and she says that the fault is hers - she shouldn't have tried to be someone she wasn't. Mike says he doesn't want Jane to be different - if he'd had any sense he'd have realised that she's the same person whether she's dressed up or not. They agree to be friends. Jane isn't going to school today as she has to look after her grandfather while Mrs Mangel is in hospital. But she offers to walk Mike there and they go off holding hands. (Aww!!)
A woman has set up the computer and Madge nervously approaches it. The woman shows Madge how to put a 5.25 inch disk into the machine! Madge is very nervous.
Paul is trying to persuade the biker chick to stay on longer, and also invites her out to dinner. She's not impressed though, saying she quite likes Shane. She's not interested in any sort of commitment. Paul is ambitious, and therefore not free-spirited. Paul says that life can be pretty empty without steady relationships and hopes that the biker chick won't end up lonely. The biker chick perceptively asks Paul if he's been hurt but he is evasive on the point.
The Coffee Shop
Des is insisting to Eileen that Daphne isn't pregnant(!) Tom and Susan come in with Sam and Tom introduces Susan to Eileen and Des. Eileen makes pointed comments about Susan's husband, but Tom says that her husband left her high and dry. Eileen starts babbling on how difficult being a single mother is(!) Susan tells Eileen that she's hoping to stay on permanently in Erinsborough, so she's looking for a job. Eileen offers Susan a job in the Coffee Shop, but Tom says Eileen had better talk to Des first. But Eileen says she's in charge while Des is out and goes to get Susan an apron(!)
Helen is trying to find a file, but Madge explains that she's "updated" the filing system. But Helen says that all the files will be going on to computer anyway. Madge gets all twitchy - she's a bit of a Luddite.
Des has called Clive round to see Daphne - she's running a temperature and winces when he puts the light on. Also she's got a stiff neck and headaches. Clive looks worried and goes off to have a look at her. He immediately comes back and tells Des to call an ambulance and tell them it's an emergency.
