Solicitor's Office
The solicitor tells them that the property has been taken off the market - the owner hasn't been able to find anywhere else to live yet. Terry and Paul are very upset, and getting their deposit back doesn't comfort them. They can't afford anything else. They leave, dejectedly.
Des's
Paul is ranting about the unit, but Terry seems quite calm. They quarrel a bit - Terry points out that there's nothing they can do about it. Paul says they can't live in a caravan or a tent, but Terry says she wouldn't mind. Paul says he wants to do better than Terry's first husband. But Terry tells him not to be stupid and they start shouting at each other. Paul accuses Terry of not wanting to get married at all.
Des comes in and Paul explains that the unit has fallen through. Des tells them off for rowing - they shouldn't be screaming at each other at their first crisis. He tells them to stick together.
Terry asks Paul if they can still have the champagne. They hug.
Daphne's housesitting place
Ian has come home early to make things up to Rachel, but she's not there. Daphne is surprised to hear she's missing and is worried. She thinks Rachel might have run off again.
Max's bedsit
Shane comes home and is surprised by all the car parts filling the bedsit. Max explains the bones of what's happened between him and Jim, but Shane is still confused.
Daphne's housesitting place
Ian wants to call the police, but Daphne says it's better they try to find Rachel themselves first. Daphne asks if Rachel has any friends at school - she wouldn't have gone to her mothers.
Just then, the phone rings. It's Daphne's manager, Frank. He asks her why he sent her a replacement - Sabrina. Daphne realises that it's Rachel. She tells Frank not to let her out of his sight - they be right over.
Outside Daphne's housesitting place
Ian is shocked to hear that Daphne is a stripper, but Daphne insists she's a dancer. They get in the car.
Des's
Shane comes around to invite Des to the movies, but he's too busy. He asks Des what's going on between Jim and Max.
Outside Stripping Agency
Ian and Daphne have found Rachel. Ian yells that there's no controlling Rachel.
Coffee Shop
Daphne joins Rachel in the Coffee Shop - Ian has stalked off. Rachel says that she heard Daphne was leaving the house. Daphne says that she can still see Rachel even if they aren't living together. Daphne insists that Ian cares, but he is a busy man. She says he threw himself into his work when his wife and daughter left him. Rachel doesn't think her father loves her at all and storms out.
Robinsons
Jim tells Julie that Paul didn't get the unit. Julie still thinks Paul and Terry are rushing into things. She thinks they need more security - like Des, he had a house of his own before he proposed Lorraine.
Paul comes in to talk to Jim. Jim offers Paul an increase in his loan, but Paul says he wouldn't be able to cover the repayments. He says they'll just have to rent until something else comes up.
Daphne's housesitting place
Daphne has dragged Rachel home. Ian apologises to Rachel for blowing his top, and says they need to have a talk. He says they all need to stop rowing. He's going to ring Rachel's mother.
Robinsons
Max brings Jim one car part around saying this part does belong to him and he wouldn't want things to get petty(!) They agree to swap lawn-mowers back and Max asks Jim for his harmonica back(!) Jim asks Max if it's OK to chop a tree down in his garden and Max agrees. Max says he'll have to send Jim a bill for the dog digging up his garden - it cost him a lot to have it redone. Jim asks for his armchair back. Max goes straight over to get it. Throughout all this they are talking very civilly though(!)
Daphne's housesitting place
Daphne is explaining to Shane what has happened with Rachel and her father over the last two days. Also that Rachel's mother and stepfather are coming over to lunch tomorrow, so that'll be fun(!)
Shane says he was the same as Rachel when Maria was going out with Nick, and Danny is the same over Richard now - sometimes you can't help youself. But he tells Daphne that it's not her problem. She isn't pleased and says that people shouldn't walk out when the going gets tough.
(Later)
Rachel's stepfather has arrived, but her mother has been held up.
Rachel's stepfather tells her father that he's sorry about all this. He says that Rachel won't listen to him because he's not her real father. Ian says she won't listen to her real father either! The stepfather admits that he did lose control once and hit Rachel, but he was pushed a lot. They agree that they both care for Rachel. He talks about how scared he was when Rachel's appendix burst. Rachel hears this from the kitchen and seems to thaw slightly.
Margaret, Rachel's mother arrives. She's in a fury about Rachel. She says she's sick of talking about Rachel and to her. She seems very unreasonable, not like the stepfather.
Daphne storms in and tells them to shut up - they're all selfish.
MARGARET: Who are you?
DAPHNE: Daphne Lawrence. And you're going to listen to me whether you like it or not!
