No 28
Karl is talking to Susan. Izzy has just phoned him; Holly has been in touch with her to tell her about the pregnancy and to float the idea of moving to London to live with Izzy.
KARL: It's not an option, anyway. Of course, Isabelle has a new South American boyfriend; they're jetting off to Santiago...
SUSAN: Of course they are (...) Another Isabelle rejection.
Karl doesn't understand why Holly would want to move - haven't they given her enough support? Susan says she will have a talk to Holly about it.
No 26
Wendy is looking wistfully at a photo of the Rodwells together when Sadie comes in. She tells Wendy about what she's heard from Andrew - that Gavin Bowman was never stalking Holly, and that she was just milking it to get Andrew's attention, even after he moved away.
SADIE: Holly drove the affair. She pursued Dad.
WENDY: It doesn't change what he did, Sadie.
SADIE: But... doesn't it prove that he had some kind of conscience? Isn't that good to know?
WENDY: No really, no.
Wendy walks off into the kitchen, leaving Sadie surprised.
Harold's Café
Felix is talking to Elle - they've still yet to arrange their date after the last one fell through. Elle comments that Felix has had a lot on his plate and that it must have been a tough position for Andrew to put him in.
FELIX: Yeah. Made some bad decisions in my time, but watching him swing a wrecking ball through his life, well, that's been a masterclass.
He suggests they go on the date tomorrow night, and Elle agrees. They're just about to decide where, when Karl comes in; he's glad he ran into Elle as something has been niggling at him, and Felix leaves them to talk about it.
Fitzgerald Motors
Taye is hanging around watching Max fix cars, when Andrew turns up. He asks to talk to Max, who brusquely replies that he's 'kind of busy'.
ANDREW: I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry. For everything.
MAX (dismissive): Yeah, well, what is done is done.
Seeing he' going to get little more out of Max, Andrew leaves. Taye looks worried, and asks Max if he's all good.
MAX: Yeah, I just want to put it behind me now.
Taye says he's been messaging Sadie, but is mainly giving her space. Max wonders if there are still issues between the two of them; Taye isn't sure, as when the affair came out, 'our stuff' simply moved to the side.
MAX: How do you feel about that?
TAYE: Honestly, pretty guilty (...) Monica gave me a chance to clear the debt.
MAX: What, how?
TAYE: How do you think?
MAX: Wow, that's kind of predatory, no?
TAYE: She was matter- of- fact about it.
MAX: And you feel guilty because you didn't tell Sadie that?
TAYE: I feel guilty because I considered it for a split second (...) I would never have gone through with it. It's just, Sadie was mad at me, and then... yeah, the thought just crossed my mind. What kind of person does this make me?
Harold's Café
Karl and Elle are at a table, where Karl is telling Elle about Jonah Jackson.
KARL: I did some investigating; he's a major real estate holder.
ELLE: Well, the Jonesy I was looking for had a connection to the Linwell brothers.
KARL: That's true, yes.
ELLE: We also thought he could be connected to government.
KARL: Right. But you never solved that mystery, did you?
ELLE: No.
KARL: No - well, perhaps there's no link here, but a freeway is in the world of construction.
ELLE: True...
Karl plans to tell Cara about it when she returns from Queensland, but just thought Elle might want to follow up. Elle admits she's not necessarily keen on opening up another can of worms that will get her into bother. Karl says she doesn't have to - he just wanted to get it off his chest. But it's clearly piqued her curiosity.
No 28
Karl has returned home, where Susan informs him that Holly has gone for a walk. Apparently Holly has told Susan why she's considering moving away - Sadie told her she'd caused enough trouble and it would be better if she left.
KARL: Doesn't she realise how vulnerable Holly is?
SUSAN: Sadie's upset, Karl. Her whole family's been torn apart. Oh, and Holly also thinks it would be better for *us* if she moved away.
KARL: Well, that's obviously not true... unless you feel differently?
SUSAN: No, of course not. No, I reassured her. I told her to take any thoughts of leaving out of her head.
Karl says he'll do the same, and wonders if Wendy encouraged Sadie to tell Holly to leave. Susan doesn't know, but decides to try and find out.
No 26
Susan goes to see Wendy, who assures her that she hasn't cried once since Susan's last visit! Susan explains why she's here, mentioning that Sadie told Holly to leave Erinsborough and go to live with Izzy in London - though that's not possible, as Izzy won't be there. Wendy insists she had no idea, and certainly didn't put Sadie up to it.
SUSAN: I wouldn't judge you if you had.
WENDY: No, no - it's not my place to tell Holly whether to stay or to go (...) Does she want to go?
SUSAN: All Holly's ever wanted is to feel safe. And frankly that's with me and Karl, not Isabelle, who constantly rejects her.
Sadie comes in and asks what's going on. Wendy tells her they need to talk.
Shortly afterwards, Susan has left, and Sadie defends her decision to tell Holly to leave, saying it would be best for everyone. But Wendy wishes she hadn't done it.
WENDY: She is having a baby, and she needs to be with her family.
SADIE: Okay, well, London is perfect. Her and Izzy can be hot messes together.
WENDY: Well, that option really isn't on the table.
SADIE: Ugh, why not?
WENDY: Because it sounds like her mother doesn't want her.
SADIE: Well... she can go some place else. People have babies on their own all the time.
WENDY: This baby, it's gonna be half your brother or sister. Have you thought about that?
SADIE: I don't want a new sibling.
WENDY: Well, you're gonna have one, whether you like it or not.
SADIE: Why are you defending her? This wouldn't have happened if Holly hadn't thrown herself at Dad (...) I know what Holly's like when she wants something. Remember what she was like with Mack and Haz? Yeah. If she's gone, maybe you and Dad can... I dunno, start talking?
WENDY: And what? Get back together?
SADIE: Yes. Maybe, eventually. After Dad grovels for a million years.
WENDY: Sade, I know it must be hard to think the worst of your dad, and probably much easier to blame Holly.
SADIE: I'm not saying that he's innocent. He's just... weak.
WENDY: He had everything to lose. And he betrayed his wedding vows for your best friend. He wanted her, okay? If he had loved me more, if he had cared about our family, if... Sadie, he chose to have an affair, and he chose to be with Holly. And there is no fixing that, because I deserve better.
Wendy strops out.
Fitzgerald Motors
It's Holly's turn to come and see Max.
HOLLY: I want you to know that I care about you a lot, and I hope that you'll realise that one day...
But Max is even less inclined to talk to Holly than he was Andrew, and he simply gets in his car and drives off. Holly looks worried.
The 82
Karl and Felix are working at the tram when Holly shows up. Felix offers her a vanilla slice but she isn't hungry. Karl tells Holly he's spoken to Izzy, and asks her to come and sit down to discuss it.
KARL: You belong here, with us. This is your home. Please, no more talk about going away.
HOLLY: It's not like I have anywhere else to go, anyway.
KARL: I will always be your first and last resort.
HOLLY: Even though my mess has brought up bad memories for you and Susan?
KARL: No, you don't have to worry about that.
HOLLY: Susan's being so kind, and supportive. But she knows what it's like to be Wendy. I mean, a part of her must hate me for what I've done.
KARL: Susan would *never* hate you. She loves you, as I do. Please, put that idea out of your head. (emotional) Umm, there's something else I need to say. I shouldn't have had a go at Andrew in the street. I'm sorry if that made things worse. It's your decision how involved he is with you and the baby.
HOLLY (emotional): Thank you.
They hold hands, both teary- eyed.
KARL: Just to be clear, though, I'll never forgive him. (laughs) I just have to try and keep my mouth shut.
HOLLY (laughs): Well, I won't hold you to that.
Lassiter's Complex
Max and Taye are drinking outside the pub. Max is getting a little tipsy as he talks about Holly.
MAX: I just don't know what she wants from me. Actually, no, I do. She wants me to forgive her and tell her it's all good, or whatever you're supposed to say after your girlfriend's been playing you for months.
Taye suggests they move onto tequila, which Max thinks is 'an amazing idea'. But at this point Monica, Taye's investor and former escorting client, shows up - she's stopped off for a drink on her way to meet a friend at the Piano Bar. Monica wants a word with Taye, but he tells her that Max knows everything, so she can say what she needs to in front of him.
MONICA (flirty): In that case, I'll be free in an hour. If that's of interest to you.
She walks off, just as Sadie turns up having picked up a bottle of wine to take home. Sadie sits down with Max and Taye, who force smiles - but Taye is looking worried about his predicament with Monica.
No 30
Holly comes to see Andrew to clear the air, and to give them an opportunity to talk. She asks if he meant it this morning when he said he wanted to help with the baby. Andrew insists that of course he wants to be there for them both. Holly tells him she'll keep him up to speed with the 'medical stuff'. Andrew says he'd like that very much. She then hands him an envelope, containing a scan image of their baby.
Andrew looks emotional and they smile at one another.
Lassiter's Complex
Max, Taye and Sadie are still outside the pub. Max, who is still tipsy, drops unsubtle hints to Sadie to go and buy another round of drinks, which she does. They then see Monica approaching again. Max encourages Taye to go inside and help Sadie.
TAYE: Why, what are you gonna do?
MAX: Nothing you need to worry about, bro. Just go be with Sadie.
As Taye heads indoors, Max checks his breath and runs a hand through his hair. Monica approaches him.
MONICA: Let me guess, you've got a message from Taye?
MAX: Nope, but I have a counter- production for you.
MONICA: Do you mean a proposition?
MAX: You look pretty amazing in that dress. Can I buy you a drink?
MONICA: (scoffs)
No 28
Karl and Susan are having a heart- to- heart in the living room. Susan insists she doesn't want to rehash the past; they've made their peace with it.
KARL: Well, then, why are things so tense?
SUSAN: You tell me.
KARL: What does that mean?
SUSAN: Well, you're the one that got physical with Andrew.
KARL: That's because of Holly.
SUSAN: That's not the only reason you're angry with him.
KARL: What other reason could there be?
SUSAN: Your own history?
KARL: Oh, please... please, Susan, don't say that my behaviour is similar to Andrew's.
SUSAN: And stop pretending that these situations are so different. it's reminding us of the past *because* of the similarities. It's bringing up a lot of stuff for both of us.
KARL: ... Yeah, you're right. You're right. It's just... it's difficult to admit that.
SUSAN: And I understand why. But denying it, and ignoring it, that's what's causing this tension.
Karl takes her hand.
KARL: I'm sorry - I'm sorry. I'll try to be more mindful.
SUSAN: So will I. The important thing is, we keep talking to each other.
Karl agrees, and at this point Holly comes in. Karl explains that they've just been 'dealing with the elephant in the room'. Holly says that's good, and asks if she can deal with hers too! She sits directly opposite Susan.
HOLLY: I know you must have feelings about what I've done. I would rather just hear them than imagine what they could be. Please, just... just be honest with me.
SUSAN: Alright, umm... Yes, I am disappointed in you. You more than anyone have suffered because of the mistakes your dad and Isabelle and I have made. And I don't understand why you haven't learned from that. And now you've been part of hurting another family. Wendy and Sadie are gonna have to live with what you and Andrew did for the rest of their lives.
HOLLY: You're right. I let everyone down, including myself.
But Susan takes her hands.
SUSAN: I will get over this, you know. Because I love you. I love you very much. We will get through this.
Holly nods, smiling. Karl smiles too.
No 30
It's musical montage time, as Andrew sits alone looking at the baby scan. Felix comes in.
No 26
Wendy has her eye on the framed family photos again - and this time starts removing them from the shelf.
No 30
Andrew is crying. He shows Felix the scan.
No 26
Sadie comes in and finds Wendy removing all the photos. Sadie looks uncomfortable.
No 30
Felix puts a comforting arm on Andrew's shoulder.
No 26
Wendy continues her rather frantic removal of photographs.
No 32
The montage ends, and Taye is floating in the pool when Max comes and sits on a deckchair. He tells Taye that he's done something 'kind of wild'.
MAX: I offered myself to Monica in your place.
TAYE: What? You've been with her this whole time?
MAX: Yeah. But no, not in the way you're thinking. She wasn't really into the idea. She was kind of horrified, to be honest.
TAYE: So what have you been doing this whole time?
MAX: Just talking, man. By the lake.
TAYE: About what?
MAX: Everything. Holly, her husband, you (...) She's actually a really nice person.
Taye then checks his phone and realises he has a message from Monica.
TAYE (reading): 'Hey, Taye. Talking to your friend has made me realise how messed up it was to offer you that deal. We can work out a payment plan for however long it takes.'
MAX: Hey, there you go. Now you don't need to tell Sadie about any of it, right?
TAYE (uncertainly): Yeah. I guess...
No 26
But the next morning, Taye has decided to fess up to Sadie anyway. Over breakfast in the garden, he explains how Monica gave him the chance to wipe the debt by returning to their escorting arrangement.
SADIE: Oh... that's really wrong.
TAYE: No, it is. And I obviously said no. But then, you and I had that argument after Holly went missing, and... for a tiny moment I considered agreeing... What are you thinking? I can't read your face.
SADIE: I should be angry. But I'm not.
TAYE: Do you want to talk things through again? Cos like I said, I'm so sorry.
SADIE: No. It's fine. You know, my life is just too complicated right now. I just need us to be solid.
TAYE: We are.
They hold hands.
Ramsay Street
Wendy walks purposefully from No 26 into the street. She stares at Holly's house for a moment, then back at her own, then over at No 30 where Andrew is staying. Turning back around again, she looks indecisive.
No 30
Wendy turns up on the doorstep, and Andrew invites her in, embarrassed that the place is a mess.
WENDY (coolly): I've been thinking about everything. Finally had some clarity... Our marriage is over.
ANDREW: ...
WENDY: But you always wanted to have another baby. With me out of the equation, there's... well, nothing to stop you and Holly from making a go of it.
ANDREW: Wait a second... what are you saying?
WENDY: If there's a chance that you and Holly can be together, and start a family with the baby, then... you should. You should be with her.
Andrew looks shocked.
