Lassiter's Hotel
In the office, Paul suggests to Krista and Annalise that they've all got off on the wrong foot. But Krista blames Paul.
KRISTA (to Annalise): Look, I own half of this hotel. I should've been a part of bringing you in.
ANNALISE: I'm sorry. You should have.
PAUL: Well, we're all here now, aren't we?
Paul is smiling unrepentantly, and seems to be enjoying the whole spat.
ANNALISE: It's a bit hard for me to unhear what I've just heard.
PAUL: Krista, you didn't really mean it, did you?
KRISTA (strained): I guess I was speaking out of frustration.
PAUL: And Annalise - you don't have any ill feelings towards Krista, do you?
ANNALISE: I don't! I mean, I don't even know you.
PAUL: Well, there you go. It's all settled, then.
ANNALISE: I don't think it is, Paul. But we have a pitch in an hour.
Krista agrees and says they should put aside their differences to work together ahead of the meeting. Then after that, says Annalise, they need to have a proper chat to resolve things. Paul nods. He's still smirking, and Krista looks unimpressed.
Ramsay Street
Susan tells Karl she's heading to the hospital to visit Remi before work. Karl likewise says he'll make time for a chat with Cara later; they agree that the Varga- Murphys will surely appreciate talking to other people who have been in the 'same boat' of unlikely amnesia conditions!
Karl has had a delivery - his desk name plate for his new seniors advisor role at the council. He seems to have had it made himself, and Susan teases him over the small font size which she presumes was a cheaper option!
Saskia turns up and suggests she and Susan head to work together, but Susan tells her she's going to see Remi first. Saskia says she wouldn't mind the detour, but Susan isn't keen on her coming and says she may be a while.
SASKIA: Oh, patience is a virtue. One I have.
SUSAN: No, it's okay, umm... we can't have you running late. You've got to set up the rec room for the macrame club, remember?
Saskia looks disappointed, but agrees that she doesn't want to get on Moira's bad side, and walks off. Susan looks concerned.
SUSAN: Thought she was almost gonna jump in the car.
KARL: Yeah. I see what you mean about being clingy.
Susan tells Karl about Jane doing a 'deep dive' into Saskia's school history, and says it will be interesting to see what she uncovers.
Harold's Café
Leo and Byron are working at a table and Nicolette is working a shift. Aaron sits down at the table, asking if Byron is all ready to set sail. He confirms he's almost packed and his ticket and passport are sorted. He has also tied up loose ends at Yorokobi with Leo.
Nicolette is making a care package for Remi and has baked some 'balls' of some unexplained variety to go in it, which she now passes to Aaron and Leo as a taste test, but she pointedly prevents Byron from taking any.
AARON: These balls are delicious!
BYRON: Alright, where are mine?
NICOLETTE: My question exactly. You still haven't told Mum that you're leaving yet, have you?
BYRON: You know how fragile she's been.
NICOLETTE: All the more reason to give her more time to process. Preferably days, not hours.
BYRON: I guess so.
NICOLETTE: There's no guessing about it... Here are your balls.
Byron takes two from the plate and looks anxious (!)
Eirini Rising
Jane is having a coffee in the courtyard as it's apparently better than the school's offering! Terese, who has come to join her, puts this down to Eirini's opinionated residents. Terese laments about not having had much time to connect with Paul since he returned from the USA. Jane gets a message from one of Saskia's previous schools about the report she'd requested. She doesn't say it's Saskia but Terese guesses correctly.
Saskia, however, happens to overhear this while working and lingers at the door to listen further. Jane admits that, if they're right about Saskia locking Wendy in the cupboard, it's likely not to have been the first time she's acted out. Looking worried, Saskia quietly goes on her way.
Erinsborough Hospital
Susan is visiting Remi and chatting about her own amnesia experience. Susan says hers was different to Remi's, but she nonetheless understands how scary it is trying to piece everything together.
No 28
In the garden, Cara is having a parallel conversation with Karl. She understands Remi hasn't made a rational choice to reject her, but...
KARL: But being erased by the one you love hurts. Believe me, I know that.
CARA: The hardest part is not knowing how to fix things.
Erinsborough Hospital
Remi tells Susan that she finds it distressing that she doesn't know Cara.
REMI: But my whole life makes sense without remembering her.
SUSAN: When I couldn't remember Karl, I didn't even like him very much. And I struggled a lot with trust.
No 28
Cara tells Karl that she always thought the love she shared with Remi could overcome anything.
CARA: What if we don't find our way back to each other?
KARL: You can't let yourself think like that.
CARA: Well, no one can reassure me that Remi will get her memory back.
KARL: Susan and I are proof that there is hope, okay? You've got to hold onto that.
Erinsborough Hospital
Susan tells Remi it may take a long time to trust Cara again - and in a way, to trust herself, that she once let Cara into her life and that she made it richer.
SUSAN: And she could still do that if... if you could let her in again.
No 28
Cara is worried that Remi won't want to reconnect.
CARA: She's got this alternate reality in her head without me. What if she likes that version better?
Erinsborough Hospital
Remi tells Susan that Cara seems like a good person, and that it sounds like they've had a good life together despite the occasional tensions. Susan assures her this is true.
SUSAN: But it's hard to long for something that you don't know you're missing.
At this point, Beverly comes in to announce that they've finished all Remi's tests, and they now need to talk about next steps...
Erinsborough High School
Jane is beginning to read Saskia's student report from her previous school, ELC Secondary College. But before she can get past the academic grades, the school bell starts ringing repeatedly. Jane is confused as she is here after hours, and wonders what's going on. She leaves her office to investigate.
Once Jane's gone, Saskia peers from around a corner, then creeps into Jane's office. She begins to read the report, and scrolls down to the 'behaviour summary'.
While the report says that Saskia has demonstrated 'efforts to be diligent and well- liked by her teachers', it also accuses her of 'exclusion and name- calling' behaviour towards other students to 'bolster her stature within her social group', and 'patterns of antisocial behaviour'. It says she has been disciplined twice following complaints by other pupils.
As the school bell continues to ring, Saskia deletes the behaviour summary and starts typing her own version!
Lassiter's Hotel
Krista, Annalise and Paul are just wrapping up their online meeting with Johan, the jewellery expo coordinator. Once they've logged off, we learn that they've been successful in their bid to host it - it seems that the community event they've promised got their bid across the line. But given Annalise hasn't even thought about what the event will be yet, Krista thinks it might have been a risky promise.
Sensing the tension between Krista and Annalise again, Paul decides it's time to thrash things out.
PAUL: We've already established that I could have gone about things in a different way.
KRISTA and ANNALISE (simultaneous): That's an understatement.
PAUL: See? You even think alike! Come on, we make a great team.
ANNALISE: Okay. I think, moving forward, we need to have some clear lines, hmm? Work out who does what.
KRISTA: Yes, I agree.
ANNALISE: Well, I don't need help with the expo - that's my wheelhouse. I did all of the major events in Manchester.
KRISTA: I've done a lot of major events here as well.
Paul is smiling to himself again.
ANNALISE: But that's only half the key to winning the Bronze Bell. I mean, the judges need to be wowed by everything else that the hotel has to offer.
Paul suggests that Annalise should focus on the event, while Krista concentrates on making sure Lassiter's is top- notch come show day. Krista hesitates, but then agrees with this course of action.
Erinsborough Hospital
Cara is waiting to see Remi. Beverly comes out of Remi's room and tells Cara she can go in. The atmosphere between Cara and Remi is still awkward, but Remi says she's looking forward to being home with Dex and JJ.
CARA: They're excited too. The house has felt really empty without you.
REMI: ... I know this isn't your fault, and you don't mean any harm, but... you're still a stranger to me. And I'm just not sure that living with you is something I feel comfortable with.
Cara looks upset.
Erinsborough High School
The problem with the school bell having been resolved, Jane returns to her office and computer to continue reading Saskia's report. The 'behaviour summary' now paints a completely different story, praising Saskia's 'outstanding behaviour... always exemplifying the school's values through her actions'. It refers to a 'flood of positive feedback from teachers' about Saskia's kindness, enthusiasm and respect for peers.
Jane looks somewhat surprised by the glowing review, and at this point is interrupted by Byron coming for a chat. he nervously explains he has something to tell her.
BYRON: I have decided that... I want to leave Erinsborough.
JANE (shocked): You what? Well, what has brought this on? It's not because of the things that I said to you, is it?
BYRON: Well, they did get me thinking...
JANE: Byron, I really wasn't in a very good frame of mind. I take it all back.
BYRON: No, but there is some truth to what you said. I am drifting, Mum - professionally and personally. And I need to find my thing, you know? My passion.
JANE: Well, what about Yorokobi?
BYRON: Leo's agreed to make me a silent partner. So I'm gonna take Trevor on a boat to Paris, and maybe do some travelling after that.
JANE: To Paris? On a boat?
BYRON: Yeah. We, umm... we leave in two days.
JANE: You what? But you've only just got out of hospital! I thought I'd lost you then and I couldn't cope, but now I'm gonna lose you after all? Oh, Byron, couldn't you just... just delay your plans? Just a little, please?
BYRON: ... Sure. I'll do you one better. I'll just... I'm not gonna go.
Jane sighs with relief.
Ramsay Street
Annalise smiles nostalgically as she steps onto Ramsay Street for the first time in 20 years. She glances over at No 24, where she first lived. Karl appears and they share a fond hug - he recalls that he hasn't seen her since the Kennedys were interviewed for her 2005 documentary about the street. Karl's sorry to hear that she's split up from Sam Kratz. Annalise says it was a few months ago, but that they 'had a good run'.
Annalise has heard that Karl is no longer a practising doctor, and he says he's loving his new council role. Annalise says that's why she's here - she needs to devise a community event for the jewellery expo, and was hoping for some insider tips. She's considering the idea of a treasure hunt which would involve burying a diamond somewhere in the Lassiter's grounds, and getting the local residents to take part.
KARL: How big is this diamond?
ANNALISE: Oh, can't give away any clues. But I will make sure that it's big enough for a senior to find.
KARL: Perfect.
Eirini Rising
Paul is leaving a box of sweet treats for Terese on her desk - but while he's there, he sees a draft contract of sale for Power Road, naming Terese as the vendor and drafted by Rhett. He starts leafing through the contract, but at this point Terese comes in, and Paul asks her what's going on...
Meanwhile in the courtyard, Jane tells Susan about the 'glowing' report from Saskia's previous school, which suggests Saskia is bright and well- adjusted. Jane says it also confirmed what Saskia had told them about being bullied previously, which she thinks is probably why she's keen to stay close to trusted adults. Susan thinks this makes sense, and Jane promises to update Wendy on her findings too.
As Jane walks off, Saskia emerges from the building and gives Susan a random hug!
SASKIA: Suze! Oh, I missed you!
Susan seems disconcerted, and even more so when she sees what Saskia is wearing - it's one of her old jackets which she donated to the Sonya Foundation!
SASKIA: Is it? Oh - I mean, that makes sense why I was so drawn to it. We both have fabulous taste in fashion.
Susan laughs uncomfortably. Saskia then presents her with some cookies she's baked and suggests they could have their tea breaks together! Susan makes an excuse, saying she has to head to a meeting. But Saskia has already checked her calendar, and says that isn't till much later! Saskia takes Susan by the arm and drags her to a table. Susan goes along with it but looks worried...
Eirini Rising
Terese tells Paul she had meant to tell him earlier about her plans to sell Power Road. She claims she didn't want to spoil his time in New York and hasn't had a chance since he returned. But she admits she's also embarrassed that she's found herself in the financial position of needing to sell the property. Paul dismisses this, reminding her that he's had financial problems in the past too.
TERESE: I know, but I pride myself in being a good businesswoman. Eirini Rising, Power Road...
PAUL: Yeah, and you wanted to make it on your own. I get that.
TERESE: Mm. But I dropped the ball.
PAUL: Okay - so don't sell, then. Let me help you, hmm?
TERESE: Paul, it's almost a million dollars!
PAUL: Yeah, I've got that.
TERESE: No, no, no - I can't let you bail me out.
PAUL: Darling, darling - listen. You are the most brilliant businesswoman powerhouse I know. Tell you what - what if we just keep it between ourselves? Would that make you feel better?
TERESE: ... Yes. Yes, it would. But I promise to pay you back.
PAUL: Oh, and I would insist that you do. Do we have a deal?
TERESE: Deal.
They kiss.
Lassiter's Complex
Krista finds Annalise in the courtyard, and tells her they can't hold her planned treasure hunt at Lassiter's Lake. Annalise says she asked Katrina Marshall who thought it wouldn't be a problem - but Krista explains they have a wedding booking for that day, and the photographs are always taken at the rotunda.
Krista asks Annalise to move the treasure hunt elsewhere. But Annalise says there's nowhere else suitable - the wedding photos will have to move instead to one of the hotel's other 'stunning' spots, like the mezzanine or the rooftop. Krista looks annoyed as Annalise walks off.
Erinsborough Hospital
Beverly tells Remi that all the paperwork is ready for her discharge tomorrow. Remi asks when she can go back to work. Bev says that, given her amnesia diagnosis, she would have to demonstrate she was fit to resume her position. Cognitive testing would form part of this, but Bev says the priority is helping Remi to regain her full memory, which they can work on in their sessions together.
Cara is listening to all this, and Bev asks if they've agreed on living arrangements.
REMI: Not exactly.
CARA: What we didn't get to talking about was JJ and Dex. And whether or not you remember, I am their mum too. And they need stability. I wouldn't feel comfortable moving out away from them.
REMI: ...
CARA: But I also don't want to cause you distress. So, how do you feel about living together in separate bedrooms?
Remi doesn't look all that enthused even at this prospect...
No 32
Nicolette and Byron are hanging out on the couch, while Saskia bakes some more cookies for Susan! Byron is eating a tub of ice cream and Nicolette tells him guests should have 'right of scoop'. Byron reminds her it's his ice cream and she wasn't invited over!
NICOLETTE (teasing): I'm gonna miss us.
BYRON (relinquishing the ice cream): Did I imagine the conversation where I told you I was staying?
NICOLETTE: Did I imagine the conversation where I told you you're making the wrong call?
BYRON: You should have seen Mum, okay? She had big eyes, so cut up...
NICOLETTE: I'll look after Mum. I get you wanting to take care of her and make her happy, but... you deserve to think about your own happiness too. And if you push aside what you want, you'll only end up resenting Mum. Take it from the formerly estranged child - that's gonna be harder to manage in the long run.
Susan calls round, and Saskia immediately grabs her by the hand to lead her into the kitchen and show her the cookies she's making. But Susan has bad news - she says they won't be able to roster any shifts for Saskia next week at Eirini Rising.
SUSAN: I spoke to Terese, and we looked at the needs of the business and our budget, and we've realised that we... we don't need the extra support.
SASKIA: What, so you're firing me?
SUSAN: No.
SASKIA: Did I do something wrong?
SUSAN: No, no. Not at all. We put you on as a trial, but unfortunately in doing that, we have overextended ourselves. I'm so sorry, Saskia.
Saskia looks very displeased - and after Susan leaves, she crushes a raw egg in her fist!
Ramsay Street
Susan and Karl are heading out for a walk. They have run into Annalise who is pleased to catch up with Susan, and also asks Karl if he'd heard anything from the council about her treasure hunt proposal prior to her forthcoming meeting with them. Karl admits he's heard that the council aren't very keen on the idea - they are looking for something more community- focused. Annalise resolves to give it some more thought.
As Annalise leaves and the Kennedys go off on their walk, Saskia shows up - and makes her way to the side gate of No 28, before letting herself into the garden...
