- Susan reaffirming she'll help Karl recover again.
- Sadie finding out why her parents are arguing.
- Holly ignoring Sadie and doing her own digging into Andrew's past.
- Andrew confused about it all and Holly suggesting they go to Sandy Point.
Sandy Point
Now they have arrived in Sandy Point, Andrew is wondering how his unannounced presence will go down with his dad. Holly sees it as a way to know if Gretchen was lying or not and suggests Andrew treats this as an investigation.
Hospital
Ahead of being discharged, Karl is being visited by some of the neighbours - Aaron, Nicolette and Jane. Whilst there, Jane gets a text to inform her that Darcy has agreed to her visit, looking to get answers about her mum. Karl makes it clear that the never wants to see Darcy again, but is okay if Susan wants to go and see him.
Sandy Point
A very nervous Andrew waits with Holly as the boat containing his dad and sister pulls into the dock. "It's now or never," he says before leaving Holly and tentatively walking towards the tied up boat.
ANDREW: Hi there, I'm...I'm sorry to bother you. I'm Andrew. I think I'm your son.
Before Andrew spoke, it looked like Steven recognised Andrew, but after he spoke, Steven starts to hyperventilate, almost looking like he's taking a panic attack.
Warrinor prison
Darcy admits to Jane as being responsible for Amanda's death and goes on to explain the how and why - he was afraid that Jane would investigate Amanda's finances and discover what he did and so loured Amanda to the Dandenongs. However, he says things changed when they got there - Amanda started talking about Jane [we then see a flashback to Amanda telling Darcy she needs to go and be with her family] and after hearing that, he realised that he couldn't go through with his plan.
Back to the flashback and Darcy agrees Amanda needs to be with her family and plans to call a car for her, adding that Jane could bring her back to the Dandenongs sometime in the future. Back with the present and Darcy can't believe he "let things go so far."
Back to the flashback and Darcy warns Amanda [who looks upset at this point] to come back from the edge but when he turned his back, he hears a noise - it was Amanda falling and he genuinely looks shocked at finding her at the bottom of the ravine. We then hear him tell Jane that he climbed down to check on Amanda but found no pulse on her.
JANE: (tearfully) You robbed me of my mother and she was so angry with me just before she died.
Darcy is quick to reply back that she wasn't, and asks if The Thousand Steps means anything to her. He then goes onto say that at one point, Amanda thought he was Jane because she was apologising and mentioned if [Jane] remembered from when she was a wee girl, the day they climbed The Thousand Steps. From the flashback we hear Amanda tell 'Jane' that she promised [that day] to hold her hand and never let it go... before then adding that she did let it go.
Back with the present and Jane confirms she remembered that day.
DARCY: She loved you Jane. she always loved you. She never stopped loving you.
Sandy Point
Andrew admits he wasn't expecting Steven to say that they [Steven and Barbara] did want to come and find him, but it was felt he needed to be the first to instigate contact. Gretchen fesses up and admits to meeting Wendy and fearful it would set Steven back, lied to Wendy. Steven confirms that the set back is him having lung cancer and Gretchen lied so not to put Steven under more stress. Andrew gets why she was being protective and then hears that Steven is responding to his chemo treatment, or as Steven is interpreting it, "two very good days in a row!"
Gretchen spots Holly and thinks it his daughter, so Andrew, without going into much detail says who Holly is and that she's responsible for him meeting his dad. Immediately, Steven tells Andrew to invite her onboard so they can then have a "good long chat."
(Later)
With Holly on board, Andrew fills in the basics about his past and that he is a police officer. Dad and lad both realise another connection - they both play(ed) the drums! The jovial atmosphere then goes when Steven takes a coughing fit and Andrew suggests to Holly they get going, but a now recovered Steven asks that they don't go and Andrew looks pleased to hear him say that.
ANDREW: I'll take any chance to get to know you better.
GRETCHEN: And there will be more.
STEVEN: I thought this day would never come, but it has. Thank you.
ANDREW: Hey, we found each other now, that's all that matters.
(Later)
Andrew is on a high as he and Holly make their way back to the car. He's pleased that they seem a loving family and sincerely thanks Holly for sticking her nose in to enable him to meet them.
Number 24
Jane tells Nicolette, Aaron and Susan what Darcy said to her about Amanda. Nicolette reminds her mum that "Nanna loved you" and feels "if you take anything from today, take that." Whist it won't bring Amanda back, Jane believes what Darcy said was the truth. After Susan asks, Jane feels that the other stuff Darcy told her was also true and her reply is, "I guess we'll never truly know."
While Jane was off seeing Darcy, the school were tyring to get in touch with her - one of the teachers needs to take immediate, and indefinite, carers leave and Nicolette knows just who the replacement could be!
Road somewhere
Andrew is still on a high from the visit to his family as they drive back to Erinsborough, so Holly suggests a detour to the city, to visit a bar she's been wanting to go.
The V Bar
Holly and Andrew have a toast to his new family, and he confirms that he will tell his [adoptive] parents when they get back from their cruise about meeting his birth father. The pair then chat about how their lives could be different if they were raised by a different family. Andrew feels they'd probably both wouldn't be the people they are today although Holly would love to not be the train wreck she's turned into! On that note, to get a break from talking about him, Andrew asks Holly to know more about her from what he has picked up already - like born and raised in London, the odd visit to Australia, being an exchange student in China and that at one point she wanted to be a doctor!
Hospital
Susan confirms to Karl that Darcy has agreed to see her tomorrow to get the answers she is after. Despite what he said earlier, Karl now wants to see Darcy too.
The V Bar
Given what Holly has said offscreen, Andrew compliments Holly on how well she's turned out.
Warrinor prison (next day)
Susan is aghast when Darcy explains his rationale for what he did to Karl! He claims to have come to Erinsborough "with the best intentions," which Susan seriously doubts, given he "fed Karl's addition" and then used that to "manipulate him."
Turning to Karl, Darcy pleads that he did try to help him, admitting too that "it felt good that you needed me." Karl bitterly regrets not being honest from the start with Susan, but Darcy seems to ignore this, continuing to say the support and friendship "meant the world to me" before then adding that he "fell into old habits." Susan is not amused that his justification for his actions was Chelsea dumping him after 2 weeks! Darcy quickly clarifies what he meant - that "one bad decision just snowballed into another" and "every time I crossed the line, there was no turning back."
DARCY: I never, ever wanted to hurt you. Even when you were in hospital, I didn't want you to die. I just had to get away. I had this crazy idea that I had a future with Tess... but you had to ruin that for me, didn't you?!
Susan reminds Darcy that none of this "excuses what you did!" Darcy quick agrees and is going to take whatever the resulting consequences are. "They won't be enough," an angry Susan counters with!
SUSAN: Darcy, you are a manipulative and dangerous man! Now, whatever contrition you might be feeling ... it's too late.
Despite Susan's words, Darcy is still bitter at Karl threatening "everything I was working for" and saw that as justification "to do something" especially given "you didn't even have the guts to confess your addition to your own wife!"
DARCY: You are weak. And I used that weakness to my advantage.
KARL: I am not weak.
DARCY: You're not the man I used to know. Have a think about how this all started, Karl. You racing around Italy on your little motorbike, taking crazy risks. Why? What? To make you feel young again?!
Darcy scoffs after saying that rant and finishes by calling Karl "a pathetic old man!"
DARCY: Time catches up with all of us, Karl! You've given your life to medicine but I think its time to call it a day.
Karl looks utterly horrified listening to what Darcy has said to him and looks upset too. After that last bit, Karl silently stands up and pauses for a moment before walking away... the look on Darcy's face is as if to say 1- 0 to me.
Number 26
Wendy is nervous ahead of being interviewed for the job going at EHS. Andrew tries to calm her down but equally reassure her that she is the "perfect person" for the role.
She then pauses for a moment to notice that Andrew is different and wants to know what she missed! "A lot has happened in the past 24 hours," he begins with and gives her the edited version over how he (and Holly) ended up in Sandy Point meeting his dad who "is a good guy" and did want to meet him, unlike what Gretchen said to her. Wendy seems shocked with this news given the facial expression she is showing!
Number 28
Offscreen, the Kennedys have debriefed Holly, Jane and Aaron on their visit to see Darcy. Jane hopes they get "some satisfaction" from venting their anger and Holly hopes her dad did "let him have it." However, Susan fells that they need to move on, even if it is hard. Aaron backs Susan up, by telling Jane that Amanda would wish that to happen and with that 'endorsement' she bides them all farewell to head to work and Holly/Aaron follow her having made their excuses.
Given they are doctor- free at Eirini, Susan asks Karl when he will be returning to work. Karl reminds her about his suspension, although Susan doesn't think that will stand, now the truth about what Darcy did is out. The words Darcy said to Karl are obviously playing on his mind as despite Terese happy to have him back, Karl tells Susan he can't see himself coming back.
Number 26
Andrew is unsure why Wendy is almost giving him the silent treatment over him going to see Steven. Eventually, she takes him on and acknowledges that she is happy he met Steven but is well peeved that Holly, who did exactly what she did, but unlike her, Holly is "the hero"!
Their argument is curtailed when they receive a visitor - Holly looking for Sadie. Sadie is in the shower, so while Holly waits, Wendy thanks her for helping "get the real truth about Steven." Holly is happy to take the plaudits and after describing the day as "a big day", Wendy seems surprised and ask what time they got home? "We got home before dark," Andrew quickly gets in, which Holly backs him up with. Satisfied with the answer, Wendy heads through to the living room to get ready for her interview.
Quietly, Holly asks Andrew why he lied to his wife? He almost struggles to answer, and eventually comes up that given she wanted to be there when they met his family, knowing they went out to celebrate this, would make Wendy feel even worse. Holly does buy the reply but Andrew had that 'guilty' feeling about his response.
