Harolds café
"I swear I didn't now," Chelsea begins with and reveals that she didn't know either until Jeffery informed her when Thomas was in hospital. Paul bemoans that is when she should have told him, which she gets, but she wanted to wait for the right moment to break his heart. After he asks why, Chelsea explains that Jeffery was blackmailing her and felt he'd get more leverage the longer Paul bonded with Thomas plus he thought that she'd be in a relationship with Paul by now too. "Is that what you're trying to do?" Paul asks and in a roundabout way the answer is yes, because she wanted them to be a family. It then dawns on Paul about the trust being set up so she could pay Jeffery and he looks aghast despite her protestations that she was trapped. "I never wanted to hurt you," Chelsea does add and places her hands over his... when Paul's brain finally registers what she's done, he can't pull his hands quickly enough away from hers and moments after that, storms out of the café.
Harolds café (rear patio)
Paul takes a moment to try and understand what has just happened.
Number 28
With his head now clear, Karl is trying to convince Terese that it was Darcy who tampered with the natural substances that he was taking [supplied by Darcy] and maintains that the opioids were not his. Holly backs her dad up but Susan isn't quite believing Darcy is behind it although part of her disbelieving is the fact Karl lied to her. Realising he's not getting anywhere, Karl walks out of the house and before Holly disappears to her room, she urges Terese to look into things.
TERESE: Do you think Karl could be right?
Susan so wants to believe her husband, but it's the lies which is doing it for Susan and feels that they can't confront Darcy either because he's already told his side of the story.
Eirini Rising (Courtyard)
Amanda likes the gossip Darcy has been telling her about Karl before he in turn asks about her forthcoming trip to the Dandenongs.
Number 28
Jane (and Byron) have Remi over for a cuppa to see if she will chat to Amanda about seeing a cognitive specialist.
Eirini Rising (Courtyard)
Darcy thinks that Jane has ulterior motives behind the trip, but Amanda doesn't think there is anything going on, other than having a trip down memory lane.
Lassiters Complex
Max finds Agnes hiding out at the complex to get away from Moira and the other Eirini residents. As they chat, she gets some good news - Harold passed on the manuscript she sent him to a publisher in Port Douglas who now wants to talk to Agnes.
Lassiters rotunda
Paul pulls out one of Thomas' socks from his pocket and gets upset.
Karl comes across Paul sitting alone and bemoans how crap is life is just now. While empathetic, Paul reminds Karl his "credibility is down the dunny" so first on the agenda is Karl requiring to prove that he is on top of his recovery and then to find the rock solid proof that Darcy is behind "underhanded".
Paul wants to know why he didn't come clean with Susan about his dependency in the first place and Karl truthfully admits that after she sat by his bedside while he recovered, he didn't want to "add another complication" as well as the fact he was "ashamed" too.
KARL: I made a huge mistake trusting Darcy.
PAUL: Yeah, well, we're all guilty of trusting the wrong people.
The Waterhole
Darcy comes across a downbeat Chelsea in the bar and offers his ears but she isn't in the mood to talk although does add that she doesn't have the right to complain.
CHELSEA: I'm getting what I deserve.
DARCY: I don't believe in karma. Plenty of people get more than they deserve, others less. The way forward is to know what you want and go for it.
CHELSEA: That hasn't worked for me.
DARCY: I'm finally getting what I want. I am so close. I haven't come this far to back away now.
Number 28
Karl is surprised to see Susan at home when he gets back but plans on accompanying her to work so he can clear his things. Even though he is confident it isn't required, a "deeply remorseful" Karl has found a rehab facility to check into. Susan is admirable that he has admitted to having a problem and wishes that she had been able to help from the start. "So do I," Karl replies but he thought he could handle it himself, which in turn has compromised her and their relationship along with his career too.
KARL: I just wanted to get past this. I've seen so much addiction, I couldn't believe what happened to me.
She reminds Karl that what has happened, doesn't have to define him and the main priority is to get him well again. Naturally, Darcy's name gets brought up and Karl pleads for her to keep an open mind, which she agrees to.
The Waterhole
As they chat, Cara is aghast to hear that Chelsea is contemplating leaving town especially since Paul "loves being a dad to this little guy" and taking him away "would break his heart."
Eirini Rising (office)
Paul is waiting for Terese and is just about to talk to her when Jane and Amanda walk in discussing the cognitive tests. Terese jumps in to reassure Amanda that these tests are quite standard and this helps convince Amanda to talk to Remi on condition they do so before the trip to the Dandenongs.
When they depart, Terese now gets Paul might be there to chat with her about something and just as he goes to open his mouth, she gets a text to say Karl and Susan are on their way, so Paul decides to head off, what he has to say can wait.
Harolds café (rear patio)
Max (and Taye) run into Agnes and hear about the chat with the publisher - she is interested but more work requires to be done beginning with Agnes taking a trip to Port Douglas to discuss this in person.
As the guys walk away, Taye comments that Max is "really invested in your Great Cousin Aunt Grandma."
MAX: Hey, you've got Vera, I've got Agnes!
Eirini Rising (Karl's office)
Holly is reassuring her dad he will "be back before you know it" as he packs up his stuff. As Susan and Terese stand back watching this happen, Darcy walks in! Holly is not amused at all and has a go at him.
HOLLY: You didn't wait for dad's chair to get cold before you made yourself at home!
She doesn't believe that he has changed either and is still "the same creep I heard about growing up" and that he was the one who "messed with dad's supplements." With a deadpan face, Darcy denies this and Susan tries to get Holly to be quiet but she isn't finished!
HOLLY: We can't prove anything yet, but sooner or later, everything you've done will come back to bite you and I'm going to be the first one to celebrate when you come crashing down!
Holly gives Darcy a look of utter distain as head- down Susan leads her out of the office while Karl gives him a 'death stare'! After they leave, Darcy apologises for Terese witnessing what happened, commenting that "emotions are obviously running really high!"
TERESE: I am very protective of Eirini and our residents. And if I get a hint that anything is amiss, I won't hesitate to take action.
Eirini Rising (Amanda's apartment)
Sadie, Byron and Jane are visiting Amanda and Byron is thrilled to see his mug has been replaced, even if Amanda isn't sure how it got broken.
Jane gets notification that Remi has arrived and will meet them in the courtyard. Amanda sends the family ahead of her, she wants to power her nose first.
When Amanda heads to the bathroom, Byron is (happy) shocked to hear that she agreed to talk to Remi given she was so against it. Jane explains that it did take some persuading before Amanda would agree to talk to her. Byron thinks the change in mindset from Amanda is her continuing to be unpredictable or a sign that she is getting worse. Jane isn't disagreeing with his suggestion, but whatever they need to try and support Amanda and her having the chat with Remi is "a good first step."
Before Amanda went to the bathroom, she questioned if the chat with Remi was chargeable but Jane reassured her it was free. Amanda then blurted out that money was no object and now Sadie thinks that is good although Jane will investigate the claim and of course see the will too. Byron adds in another thing they need to look into - power of attorney. "Yes, that too," Jane comments and lurking outside the open door of the apartment, someone else has been listening to the conversation - Darcy who now looks very worried!!!
(Later)
When Amanda gets out of the bathroom, she finds Darcy waiting for her. She tries to get rid of him as she has to go see the family/Remi but he wants a word. He sits her on her bed to say that he's "come to care for you a great deal" and that this meeting she is about to go to "is a trap." Darcy reminds her of the story "about some relatives abusing their elders" by getting "a quick diagnosis" before being packed "off to a home" and this meeting/day trip is being done to butter her up and initiate this.
DARCY: Soon they're gonna give you something to sign, and that will be it.
AMANDA: (upset) They wanna put me in a home?!
DARCY: You have to say no... or it's too late.
Amanda is now getting quite upset and Darcy tries to calm her down.
Penthouse suite
Leo is looking at the Ramsay- Robinson family tree that Max has completed and is very impressed with it, especially as it contains the newest members of the family. Paul's eyes then spring to the family collection of photos, in particular the ones containing David.
LEO: I miss him too.
The lift ping signals a new arrival - it's Terese and so Leo bides farewell. She is eager to show Paul resources she's downloaded about co- parenting because she knows "spending time with Thomas is really important" to Paul and wants to do anything that can help that process.
TERESE: I'm really looking forward to us watching him grow up.
Paul doesn't make any attempt to correct Terese, instead he starts to get teary- eyed especially so after looking at the 'family' photo taken on his naming day.
Eirini Rising (Courtyard)
Byron, Sadie, Jane and Remi are standing chatting in the courtyard when an irate Amanda arrives to bluntly tell Jane that she isn't interested in the trip to the hills because she knows what Jane is up to!
AMANDA: You want to lock me away in an asylum!
Remi denies that is the case, she is simply there to chat. Jane is wondering where Amanda is getting this idea from and the reply back is "I'm not sick!"
AMANDA: You and peter just... just want to trick me.
Byron gently says that he is Byron [and not Peter] but Amanda ignores that, informing them that they're "not getting rid of me!" Jane tries to tempt Amanda with their trip to the Dandenongs but she is adamant about "not going anywhere with you!" Amanda starts to back away from them and yells to them about not following her.
A crying Amanda then heads to the entrance, and once she gets behind the coffee stall is hidden from the family - where waiting for her is a very reassuring Darcy!
DARCY: I won't let them take you away. We'll make a little trip of our own.
Lassiters Park
Chelsea spot Paul standing by one of the trees and makes her way to him, Before he has a chance to speak, she informs him that she is willing to leave and never see her again.
CHELSEA: All I ask is that you don't tell my family. Please, I don't want to cause anyone any more pain, especially Thomas.
As Chelsea said those final words, she took hold of Paul's arm... which has been seen by Kirsta on exiting Lassiters.
Paul tells Chelsea that he's made a decision - nothing needs to change!
PAUL: Our secret is safe because I will be Thomas' father.
Chelsea is in utter shock at what Paul has just said to her! Paul though has a condition to their deal - nobody can know about it and wants some ground rules too.
PAUL: No more flirtatious looks, no more touching. I'm with Terese now and you need to respect that.
A very grateful Chelsea accepts the deal Paul is giving her, stunned that he is willing to do this for her... although she just about falls at the first hurdle by going to touch his arm again but manages to stop herself just in time!
CHELSEA: What about Jeffrey?
PAUL: I'll take care of Jeffrey.
Eirini Rising (Courtyard)
A much calmer Amanda thanks Darcy for looking after her as they head towards the waiting car. However, Darcy receives a notification that he needs to check on another resident, so tells Amanda to go onto the picnic ground and he will meet her there. She seems very hesitant about going alone, but Darcy reassures her she's "an independent capable woman" and knows where the car will be going and promises to meet her there soon. Darcy's words work and a more happier Amanda, gets into the car and Darcy see's she's settled before waving it off.
