Number 26
Wendy arrives home and spots the scattered make up stuff on the floor and asks Sadie what's up. She tells her mum she doesn't want to look at herself anymore and doesn't want to see Byron anymore either. Wendy tries to talk to her about the impossible position Byron was in during the garage fire, which Sadie does actually get but adds that his choice made her "look like this." Quickly correcting her daughter, Wendy says it was "the people who threw the Molotov cocktail" who did it, and what happened was actually "bad luck". Sadie thinks it was "karma" for her setting the fires years ago.
WENDY: Sweetheart, it's not cosmic revenge.
SADIE: It is, if my career is over. What if makeup isn't my happy place anymore?
Number 22
Darcy has been the perfect host, hosting his family for dinner and was pleased to get to know Holly a bit too, although she hasn't told her mum that she's met him.
While Susan and Holly clear the dishes, Darcy picks up on something Susan mentioned earlier - that there was a 'glitch' with Karl's appointments, and Karl is sure it was just a one- off and won't happen again. Karl is full of praise for the programme Darcy has him on, and grateful too for the support.
Number 26
After Sadie heads to bed, Wendy and Andrew discuss their daughter shunning Byron. Andrew thinks they can do it all, but Wendy thinks her daughter needs the "village" to help repair their "broken" daughter. However, when Andrew doesn't say anything to that, Wendy is fearful that things are worse than she thought.
Lassiters Complex (next day)
As it's a fine day, Cara and Remi are out for a walk with Thomas. They run into Gino outside Harold's, and he compliments them how cute the bairn is and assumes that Cara is the mum! When Cara doesn't correct him, Remi is somewhat bemused.
Ramsay Street
Whilst doing the warm- ups ahead of going for a run, Max is chatting to Byron about his plans to re- enter employment in the legal system when they spot Sadie and Holly exit from #26. Byron is unsure what to do, but Max tells him to just be cool and let them come over, but when there is no sign of that happening, Max commences their run and reluctantly, Byron follows.
Sadie is after gossip over what is happening between Holly and Max, but the reply back is they are just friends, however before they can chat more, Darcy interrupts. Holly explains that the K's have already left for Eirini as he was hoping for a lift. Darcy correctly identifies that the person with Holly is Sadie, and Holly explains to Sadie that Darcy is Susan's nephew.
HOLLY: He used to be dodgy, but apparently, he's changed… jury's out on that!
DARCY: I should be offended… but she's not wrong!
Darcy brings up Sadie's sleep issues and gives her a suggestion he used with his old patients - reframing where you visualise a different outcome to what happened, reframing the narrative, which helps calm the mind and gives the patient mental space to rest and recover.
Eirini Rising (outside)
The K's have given Darcy the tour and he is very impressed! They are interrupted when Vera stops them as she has a dodgy stomach and Karl ushers her inside to check her over.
Lassiters Complex
As they drink their coffee, Remi brings up the fact Cara didn't correct Gino earlier. She doesn't think the slip was a big deal, she said it without thinking. "You've become territorial," Remi tells her wife, but Cara's counter is that she is a good auntie and Chelsea doesn't mind. Remi gets that Chelsea is very much appreciative of the break Cara is giving her by minding Thomas, but "that doesn't mean you get to pretend he's your son." Cara seems very offended by that and walks off [with Thomas] in a huff!
Eirini Rising (outside)
Post consultation, Karl doesn't think there is too much wrong with Vera other than indigestion over what she's been eating. As they part ways, Vera suddenly experiences some pain and Darcy rushes over to see what is wrong. He's barely got the 'I'm a doctor' out when Gino rushes over warning him to stay away from Vera! Gino isn't impressed at Darcy showing his face again and explains to Vera how Darcy pushed Lyn down the stairs when she was pregnant.
DARCY: That was a long, long time ago.
GINO: Never forgotten though!
Gino quickly grabs Vera and the pair gossip over why Darcy is back as they walk away from Darcy.
Number 26
Sadie (and Andrew) don't look too impressed when they arrive home and spot that Wendy has invited Byron over. She wants to try on her daughter and Byron, a technique she used in Murrayville to help her students connect with their emotions to create authentic art. Sadie reminds her mum that they aren't artists and Byron is forced to stay when he goes to leave, because Wendy can see the pair need to talk. Sadie would rather her mum butt out, but Wendy is refusing to as she's got an attack of the guilts as she wasn't there when Sadie was in peril.
WENDY: I'm your mum Sadie, I'm the one who's meant to be looking out for you.
Eirini Rising (outside)
Darcy is shocked over Gino reminding him of his past as he chats about it with The K's. They both remind him that he isn't that Darcy anymore, he has changed.
The K's head off and leave Darcy standing and he then spots that Vera is still in pain as she sits at a table with Gino. Darcy had tried to suggest that Vera could have appendicitis when her name came up in conversation with the K's, but Karl is confident that she just has indigestion.
After Darcy gets past Gino, he asks Vera a few questions and gets her to stand up and lift each leg, but when she lifts her right one, the pain is very intense and with Gino's help, Darcy gets Vera sitting back down and informs her she will need to go to the hospital and goes to call for an ambulance.
Number 30
As they clear the breakfast dishes up in silence, the tension eventually gets to Remi, and she apologises to Cara for going too far in their chat earlier and if what she said hurt.
CARA: It hurt because it's true. Being a part of Thomas' life has brought me real joy.
REMI: I can see that.
CARA: Having that beautiful boy around, it's just…made me realise I'm not there yet. I'm still letting go of the baby dream.
Taking Cara's hand, Remi asks what she can do to help? "Don't judge me," is Cara's reply, acknowledging what she said to Gino wasn't right. "I can do that," Remi replies back.
Eirini Rising (inside)
Karl isn't impressed at Darcy calling an ambulance for Vera when she only has indigestion. The pair are 'discussing' it when Susan comes over to inform them after getting a call from the hospital, that Vera has been taken into surgery "with a severely inflamed appendix!" Karl is aghast at his misdiagnosis especially as Susan praises Darcy for catching it since she adds that Vera's appendix is close to bursting.
Number 26
Sadie and Byron look like they'd rather be anywhere else than sitting round the table with Andrew as Wendy re- enacts with them what she did with her students. Wendy suggests that Byron begins but he hasn't a clue what to say and Sadie takes over by acknowledging she gets why he saved Nicolette. He isn't so sure given he feels like they haven't resolved anything coupled with the fact she doesn't want to be anywhere near him either! "I need time," is Sadie's rationale but Byron starts to push her into some sort of action, even bringing up the fact he's doing "group therapy" around the dinner table to show how much he cares about her. Sadie mentions running into Darcy that morning and that he mentioned something which she'd like to try.
Garage
Sadie, Byron, Holly and Max stand outside the burnt remains of the garage. Byron asks now that they are here, what happens next, so Sadie tells them about how they will reframe things by changing what happened. Somewhat hesitantly, Max and Holly are up for Sadie's idea, and they begin with Sadie recapping [with the aid of flashbacks for the audience] what happened that fateful night. It's a painful listen for the others and by Sadie telling it - but this time, instead of the beam falling on her, she invasions herself moving to the roller door and with all her might, the door gives, and she gets safely out.
Eirini Rising (outside)
Darcy brings Karl over a much- needed coffee as he is really concerned about Vera, worried too that she didn't tell him something which is why he didn't diagnose the appendicitis. "We're not perfect," Darcy points out, but Karl interprets that as criticism! Darcy wonders if Karl being off his game is down to the effects the painkillers are having on him, which he rejects and confirms he's allowed to take them while working too.
KARL: I would never put my patients at risk like that!
Thankfully Darcy calms Karl back down in time for Susan (and Gino) to arrive to inform him that Vera is out of surgery and will be fine. Begrudgingly, he thanks Darcy for his intervention as his actions potentially saved Vera's life.
GINO: It doesn't mean I'll forget what you did to Lyn!
DARCY: Yeah, well, I won't forget it either. I think about my past every day, but remembering is not repeating. I'm never going back to who I was.
Susan looks rather proud of her nephew after he said that.
Number 32
Given her injuries, Sadie has to be content with paddling her feet in the pool rather than swimming in it. Byron promises to hold a pool party to celebrate her moving back in before admitting, he was proud of what she did at the garage today. In turn, she thanks him for being there and he's happy that she invited him along.
In the background, Holly comments to Max that the reframing seems to have worked for Byron too and even if it was weird, he will participate again should Sadie need to repeat things. Max sincerely thanks Holly for her help in dealing with Carter too and to thank her for the support, wants to take her out for something to eat. Holly readily accepts his suggestion although while its been set as a 'thank you dinner' given the UST between the pair, it really should be a date!
Number 26
Offscreen, Sadie (and Byron) have told her parents what happened at the garage with Darcy's reframing idea and that it seems to have worked as Sadie "let go of something."
While things might have gone well with the reframing, Sadie isn't ready yet for Byron to see her burns as she needs to get her dressings changed, so rejects his offer to help her parents change them.
The Waterhole
Susan is quizzing Karl over how he missed diagnosing Vera's appendicitis. Karl is putting it down to Darcy witnessing Vera being in pain while she coughed. He seems well peeved at Susan thinking he's let Vera down and in turn, she accuses him of losing his cool and wants to know what is going on with him?
SUSAN: Yesterday you mucked up all your appointments. Even the way you're reacting to this. This isn't like you.
KARL: I'm reacting this way because my wife is suggesting I am negligent.
