Lassiter's Hotel
In her hotel room, Yasmine makes sympathetic noises after hearing Holly's story about Blaze the podcaster, whom Yaz declares 'sounds completely unethical'.
YASMINE: And after all you've been through in the outback.
HOLLY: I can't believe that I've told you all that. Sorry.
YASMINE: Don't be. You needed to get it off your chest, and I was happy to listen.
Conversation moves to Paul and Krista as Holly's bosses; Holly remarks that Krista has been a really good friend to her.
HOLLY: Unfortunately, being a good friend to me usually means getting involved in all of my drama. I mean, my friends Mackenzie and Haz would never have been involved in the outback if it wasn't for me. And Toadie and Melanie too.
YASMINE: Sounds like they really had your back. And the local cop, too. Andrew, is it?
HOLLY: Yeah. And he wasn't even in Queensland. But he was so amazing when we got home... Yaz, why are you being so nice to me?
YASMINE: I've had my fair share of trauma. And kindness doesn't cost anything. It's horrible when people take advantage of that.
Yaz says she has to go to a meeting now, but suggests they 'touch base' again later. Holly says it's not necessary, but...
YASMINE: It's okay. I want to.
Eirini Rising
Yaz's meeting is with Moira and Gino at Eirini Rising to discuss 'Erinsborough Lights Up'. They apologise for Susan's absence - she's busy dropping Karl off at the airport for his trip to Italy. Yaz says she's here to drum up support with the locals for the event; she wants a light display at Eirini, centred around a theme of the residents' choosing.
GINO: I've got it! 'If These Wigs Could Talk' - a showcase of great hairpieces worn by celebrities.
YASMINE (bemused): I love your enthusiasm.
MOIRA: That makes one of us.
Yaz explains she's meeting with the council tomorrow morning, and she'd love to have the residents' chosen theme and any supporting materials by then to help sell the project. Moira says it's a tight turnaround, but they'll do their best.
GINO: If you need a hairstylist for the big event, erm... you know where to find me.
Yaz fiddles with her hair self- consciously!
Lassiter's Park
Leo and Krista are having a pash, and smugly appreciating how little drama they have in their lives right now(!) Sadie, Byron and Max are hanging out on the grass nearby, Max playing with Trevor the dog; and Sadie remarks that Leo and Krista (who are now walking away) look 'nearly as loved up as Max and Trevor'.
MAX: It's true. It won't be long until Hollywood turn our romance into a film.
SADIE: And who'll play you?
MAX: Uh, Jacob Elordi, obviously. And for you, Alexa Demie?
SADIE: I love her. Sold.
MAX: Byron'll probably need someone a bit older - so maybe, like, Owen Wilson?
Sadie sniggers. Byron is clearly fuming that Max has hit it off with Trevor, remarking that Trevor's only giving Max attention because he's new.
MAX: Don't be jealous, mate.
BYRON: I'm not jealous.
SADIE: You so are.
MAX (to Byron): Dude, oh my god - I know who can play you. Ellen DeGeneres!
Sadie laughs out loud, but Byron is not amused!
Harold's Café
Holly and Yaz reconvene; Yaz remarks that Holly's looking loads better, and Holly says that's all thanks to Yaz offering her a friendly ear. Yaz explains about her plans to create a local light festival, and says it will be an intense few weeks pulling it all together if it goes ahead.
YASMINE: I will need someone by my side who really knows the area.
HOLLY: Are you offering me a job?!
YASMINE: I promise, it'll be lots of fun.
Surprised, Holly says it sounds like a great opportunity, but she's worried about letting her bosses down.
HOLLY: They've been super supportive and flexible with all of my issues, so...
YASMINE: Okay. Well, if I can't poach you, can I at least pick your brain?
Holly agrees, and they arrange to meet tomorrow morning. Nicolette, meanwhile, has been staring at Yaz through much of the conversation from behind the counter. Aaron is with her.
AARON: No drool in my coffee, thank you.
NICOLETTE: Do you have any idea who that is?
AARON: Yeah, she's staying at the hotel. Go and talk to her.
NICOLETTE: No, I need... I need some details first.
AARON: Okay. She's American, she's really friendly, and she's here for work. It's all I got. Wow, Nic - since when have you been so shy to approach someone?
NICOLETTE: Stop. She looks like she just walked off the cover of Vogue. I'm flustered!
AARON: I can see!
No 32
In the back yard, Byron is seeking reassurance from Trevor!
BYRON: You love me, right, Trev?
Nicolette appears, wanting advice on how to approach someone who's 'totally out of your league'.
BYRON: Since when are you afraid of a challenge?
NICOLETTE: Okay, it's this woman who's staying at the hotel, and she is so beautiful.
Nicolette begins discussing the merits of whether to ask Holly for Yaz's number, when Max and Sadie emerge from the house. Byron looks annoyed as Trevor rushes over to Max. Byron tries to lure Trevor back to him with a 'pre- dinner treat' - but looks increasingly embarrassed as Trevor just ignores him, to everyone else's amusement.
SADIE (to Max): He turned down a treat for you - that's crazy.
MAX (smugly): Yeah, that's true love.
NICOLETTE: Which I will miss out on if I don't get some advice!
BYRON (tetchy): Yeah, nobody cares about your latest conquest, Nic. Here, Trev!
NICOLETTE: Don't get your knickers in a knot just because you've been replaced.
Byron looks annoyed.
The Waterhole
Gino greets Toadie in the pub. Toadie says he's heard from Harold about Gino moving in at Eirini Rising, and conversation turns to the light festival - it seems Harold is 'laying low' and not getting involved so as not to get caught between Gino and Moira. Terese comes in and looks awkward when she sees Toadie. Toadie makes an excuse to rush off.
Gino greets Terese as 'fair lady', and explains that he and some of the other Eirini residents are meeting here to brainstorm ideas for the Lights Up event. Terese clearly feels bad about not being involved now she's stepped back from Eirini.
Harold's Café
Yaz thanks Holly for all her input about the light show following their meeting, and tells her that if she changes her mind about joining the team, the job offer is still there. Holly thanks her and leaves. Yaz gets up to leave herself, but one of the heels on her shoes snaps, and Nicolette seizes the opportunity to rush over and help. Yaz is worried as she'll be late for her next meeting if she has to go and change her shoes.
NICOLETTE: Oh, no - you should just take mine.
They seem to be the same size, albeit not as expensive as Yaz's!
YASMINE: Don't you need those?
NICOLETTE (lying): No! I've got spares in the back, so it's fine, really.
Yaz awkwardly thanks her, and puts the shoes on.
YASMINE: Wow, okay! This is a first.
NICOLETTE: Yeah, I wouldn't just lend my shoes to anyone!
Nicolette introduces herself, and Yaz likewise, before Nic craftily takes the opportunity to suggest swapping numbers, on the pretext of arranging a time to get the shoes back later. Yaz hands over her phone and Nicolette tries to stay calm as she inputs her number - but then looks very pleased with herself as Yaz goes on her way!
Lassiter's Complex
Nicolette waits barefoot outside the café for Byron to deliver her some spare shoes! Presently Byon arrives with Sadie, and the shoes, and asks for an explanation.
NICOLETTE: It turns out I don't need your advice, and I can make moves all on my own!
SADIE: Did you get her number?
NICOLETTE: Uh- huh!
BYRON: Okay, can we talk about your pick- up attempts another time?
NICOLETTE: I'm sorry, is there a better topic?
BYRON: Yeah - Max!
NICOLETTE: (groans)
BYRON: What? He has to go!
SADIE: You're supposed to prove to me you want to live with me for the right reasons, not because of Max.
NICOLETTE: Hey, is this because of Trevor?
SADIE: Oh, you cannot evict a housemate because the dog likes them more!
BYRON: Can I please just get a word in? This isn't about Trevor - it's Max, okay? He's the one causing all this tension in the house.
SADIE: I think you're the only one causing all this tension.
Byron looks downcast as Sadie and Nicolette disappear off inside to discuss Nic's attempts to woo Yaz!
702 Eclipse Apartments
Leo and Krista are cuddled up together on the sofa, and start pashing.
LEO: Are you ready for your morning workout?
KRISTA: Mm. Thought you'd never ask.
But they're just getting into it when there's a knock at the door.
KRISTA: No one's home!
AARON (popping his head around the door): Did you say 'come in'?
Aaron explains he's looking for a gym buddy if either of them are keen for a workout.
LEO: Yeah, I think we were - but, uh, the moment's passed.
Krista then gets a call, so goes into the bedroom to take it. Realising what he's interrupted, Aaron apologises to Leo - but says it's great to see him and Krista in such a good place.
LEO: Now Seb's gone, it's nice to focus on what's important.
AARON: Yeah. So no more guilt about sending him away?
LEO: No. And I made the right decision not telling Krista either.
Aaron doesn't look so sure, but...
LEO: It's made me realise how ready I am.
AARON: Ready? Ready for what?
LEO (whispered): To, uh, buy an engagement ring.
AARON (excited): Shut the front door!
LEO: Shh, keep your voice down, mate!
But Aaron can't hide his enthusiasm, and draws Leo in for a hug.
The Waterhole
The Eirini Rising residents are trying to work out what their theme will be for the light festival.
MOIRA: I've got it - kittens!
GINO: Why?
MOIRA: Because they're adorable.
GINO: Well, so are mini macarons, but that doesn't mean they're the answer. Let's strive to come up with something with a bit more meaning, shall we?
MOIRA: Well, kittens are meaningful!
GINO: Harold suggested moments that our generation has lived through.
MOIRA: Absolutely not! Nobody wants to relive world wars or the Great Depression!
GINO: We can choose events with a bit more razzle dazzle. Unlike this meeting, it doesn't have to be all doom and gloom.
As Gino and Moira continue to bicker, Terese, who has been sitting nearby listening to all this, looks perturbed, and walks out suddenly. Toadie, who is at a separate table, looks concerned.
Lassiter's Hotel
Leo is in the foyer, looking at engagement rings on his phone. Krista approaches and he quickly hides it.
KRISTA: Oh! Whatever you were looking at, I hope it's PG! Or me.
LEO: Err, I was just checking my stocks.
Krista's having some staffing issues, so goes over to the desk and asks Holly, who's on duty, if she'd be willing to take the night shift for the foreseeable future.
HOLLY: Sure, whatever you need. It's not like I have much of a social life right now anyway.
Krista thanks her, but is evasive when Holly asks what's prompted the need to move her shifts.
HOLLY: What, do people not want to work with me?
KRISTA: They're just being silly, Holly. Don't pay them any attention.
But Holly looks gutted - and even more so when she sees the modification to a namebadge bearing her name that someone has left on the desk in front of her. It now reads 'Hellfire Holly'.
HOLLY: Those *jerks*!
Krista is equally annoyed and assures Holly there'll be really serious consequences for whoever is behind it. But Holly has had enough.
HOLLY: I can't come to work around this every day. Krista, I'm so sorry - I quit.
Harold's Café
Toadie comes in and finds Terese, asking her if she's okay after he saw her rush out of the pub. She initially brushes it off, but Toadie correctly guesses that she was feeling shut out of all the discussion of Eirini Rising's involvement in the light festival.
TERESE: It has been incredibly difficult.
TOADIE: Alright, well... I'm here if ever you want to talk.
TERESE: You've got enough on your plate.
TOADIE: You know me. I'm a big eater. There's always room for more.
TERESE: You know, with all this stuff with Nell, I haven't had the chance to talk to you about Big Kev. You must be devastated.
TOADIE: I've missed a lot of moments with my dad. You know, over the years, I haven't exactly spent a lot of time in Colac.
TERESE: But you're there now. That means something.
TOADIE (sighs): Yeah. Took it for granted that he'd always be around. Which is pretty stupid, considering how many people I've lost. Moving to Colac was meant to be this whole new chapter. It has not turned out to be the fresh start that I'd hoped for.
TERESE: Well, life doesn't always go to plan. You and I have learned that the hard way.
TOADIE: Yeah. Nothing puts things in perspective quite like losing someone you love, right?
TERESE: ... That should be the theme. Eirini Rising's contribution to the light show. It should be 'lost loves'. To honour those who loved somebody, but they don't have them anymore.
Toadie thinks this is a brilliant idea for a theme, and suggests Terese pitch it to the residents. But she says she can't; they'd never go with it if they knew it came from her...
Eirini Rising
Gino and Moira are still discussing ideas for the theme, which they need to decide on very soon as Yaz is shortly meeting with the mayor. Moira suggests 'mosaic landscapes' but Gino is quick to tell her no! As they come into the office, they find Toadie waiting for them.
GINO: Wow, Susan - you look a little different (!)
Toadie pitches the idea to them of 'honouring lost loves' as a theme for the light show, not mentioning that Terese came up with it.
GINO: Romance for the ages. I'm in heaven.
MOIRA: Lost loves?
GINO: Well, think of it as a chance to shine a light on Lester. Maybe with that darling photo you have on the mantle.
Moira seems keen on the idea of celebrating her late husband, and agrees to the theme. Gino decides to fire off a group text to check with the other residents, but Moira is so sold on the theme that she opts to send the text herself.
Lassiter's Hotel
Holly comes to Yaz's room just as she's opening a bottle of champagne. Yaz offers her a glass.
HOLLY: I take it that the meeting went well?
YASMINE: Erinsborough Lights Up is officially happening! I found a January date in the school holidays - the perfect time.
Yaz credits the theme that Eirini Rising has pitched for the success, as well as Holly's own suggestions. Holly is glad she could help.
HOLLY: Were you serious about that job offer earlier?
YASMINE: Yes. Why are you asking?
HOLLY: Well, I've just become available (...) Some staff refused to work with me, and so I quit.
YASMINE: That's great! Not the part about the staff, they're jackasses.
HOLLY: Well, I can start right away?
YASMINE: You have just made my already amazing day even better. I see so much potential in you.
Yaz then gets a text, and looks worried. She tells Holly she just needs to pick something up, and suggests they continue talking shop later. Holly leaves her to it.
Harold's Lakeside
Byron watches forlornly from the back of the café as Sadie and Max play with Trevor on the grass. Nicolette comes to sit next to Byron. She correctly guesses that it's not really Trevor he's worried about, but Max and Sadie.
NICOLETTE: You're being ridiculous.
But Byron doesn't engage. Nicolette tells Byron she's going to collect her shoes from Yaz, and use the opportunity to score herself a really hot date. She leaves.
Meanwhile, Trevor has found something in the bushes - a bumbag with a passport inside...
Lassiter's Hotel
An eager Nicolette turns up at Yaz's door on the pretext of collecting her shoes. But Yaz doesn't reciprocate her smile, and instead just tells Nic to wait here while she fetches them. She soon returns and passes the shoes to Nic with a cool 'thanks'.
NICOLETTE: I thought of a proper way that you could thank me. Why don't we grab a drink?
YASMINE (awkward): I can't tonight.
NICOLETTE: Yeah... tomorrow? Next week? ... Next month?
YASMINE: I just landed a big contract, and I don't really have time to socialise while I'm here.
Nic tries to cover her disappointment, and tells Yaz she hears her loud and clear, before leaving.
Alone in the room, Yaz looks across the bed, on which she's laid out a number of items of clothing. Some of them look suspiciously like Heath's from the outback. Haunting music plays as she holds one garment to her face, then removes a mud- encrusted watch from a plastic bag. There's a message engraved on the back of the watch - 'to Heath, love Yaz'. She holds the watch to her chest, crying.
No 22
Terese is having a cuppa when Toadie wanders in. He tells her that her 'lost loves' theme idea for Eirini Rising's light festival exhibit went down a treat, explaining how he pitched it without linking her name to it, that all the residents loved it, and that it's persuaded the council to move ahead with the festival. Terese is thrilled.
TOADIE: Hey, given how things have been between us, this is nice.
TERESE: Yeah. Yeah, it is.
TOADIE: Dare I say it's almost like when we were just friends. All those years, living across the road from each other, being there for each other if we needed it...
TERESE: ... minding our own business when we didn't.
TOADIE: Do you think we'll ever get back to that? Being friends?
TERESE: Umm... well, I want to. But we can't just erase the last two years.
It's awkward, so Terese changes the subject, asking about the plans for Nell's birthday. Toadie says they're going well; Hugo's coming to join them from Colac for the celebration, and Terese can't wait to see him.
TERESE: It's actually gonna be really nice to have everyone together again.
The Waterhole
Krista, Leo and Aaron are hanging around the bar when Byron and Sadie come in with the bumbag that Trevor found. Krista looks at the passport inside - it's Seb's.
KRISTA: This doesn't make any sense. He left days ago and texted me he's in Sydney.
LEO: Well, maybe he lost it before he left.
AARON: Maybe it was stolen.
KRISTA: Well, the bag's dry. Didn't it rain last night?
SADIE: Apart from Trevor's teeth marks, there's barely a scratch on it.
BYRON: My guess is that somebody has dumped it there only recently.
KRISTA: This doesn't feel right. What if something really bad has happened to him?
Everyone looks worried - especially Leo.
