Melanie's apartment
While Melanie gets ready for her date with Vic, Byron drops by to give Krista a housewarming gift (a plant).
After Byron departs, Krista reassures Melanie that she looks beautiful. Melanie really hopes that this is the one and Krista thinks he might be given he's coming from Sydney "so you know he's not messing around."
The Waterhole
Melanie patiently waits for Vic to appear and just as she is about to leave, in he walks to the bar profusely apologetic - his flight was late, his phone has died and the taxi driver took the scenic route! She is mightily relived he's here and they sit down at a table although before he does, Vic nervously looks around for any familiar faces!
Number 24
Isla is very happy to see her mum when she arrives - Nicolette wants to go with Aaron to see the lawyer about the adoption, figuring a united front will go down better. Aaron readily agrees to her suggestion and she departs with Jane to have a coffee.
Melanie's apartment
Krista gets the shock of her life when she opens Melanie's laptop to see Vic's face staring at her! It eventually dawns on Krista (and Leo) who it is Melanie is meeting and she goes to call to warn her flatmate.
The Waterhole
Melanie is too engaged with her date to notice that Krista is calling her. Vic is trying to tell Melanie about his "complicated family history" but she isn't ready to share her background, so suggests they should park their "emotional baggage" for another day.
When Melanie spots the phone ringing again, she ignores it and puts the phone into her bag before concentrating on her date. She waxes lyrically about how great it is to be your own boss to encourage Vic into buying something too.
During their date, Melanie starts doing her hysterical laugh and Vic isn't repelled by it... instead he comments about knowing someone whose wife had a laugh just like hers!
Lassiters Complex
When she catches up with Paul, Terese apologises for falling asleep on him and by way of an apology, invites him out for lunch. Paul is up for that and they make arrangements to meet up later.
"She's relying on you... I hope you're up for it," Jane warns Paul after she (and Nicolette) spot him standing looking into the distance after Terese walked away.
The Waterhole
Melanie is still ignoring her phone as her date with Vic continues. The pair are getting on so well that the plan to continue the date and just as Melanie goes to the bar to get some menus, in walk Jane and Nicolette and of course spot Vic straight away!
"What the hell are you doing here?!" Nicolette demands to know and Melanie now puts 2+2 together to realise who her date actually is!
Number 32 (garden)
Byron is attempting to impress Aaron and Sam with his 'special talent' for the revue but fails miserably at trying to juggle! Next is his claim to do 10 one- armed push ups... but that fails too and they kybosh his suggestion of eating fire!
The Waterhole
Nicolette is giving her dad the full pelters and after Jane spots a handbag beside him, she comments about him picking up a "floozy!" Melanie can't hold back any more and walks towards the trio and calmly says "that's my bag" before going on to explain that they were on a date but she had "no idea who he was." She isn't amused at Vic and turns out that he didn't even realise that Melanie was family (Joe's wife at one point) until Jane pointed it out! Realising that the Stone family need to talk, Melanie hurriedly exits the bar.
Harolds café
Over lunch, Paul asks Terese how she is sleeping. She admits that she is finding it hard living on her own again in a big, quiet house. Paul knows exactly how she is feeling, having felt like that when Leo and Abby moved out.
The pair end up sharing 'a moment' when the conversation runs out and they continue to stare at one another before they realise that they shouldn't be doing that!
Number 32 (garden)
So Byron has a hidden talent after all - walking on stilts... very tall stilts!
Lassiters car park
Krista is still fretting over whether Melanie got her messages or not as she and Leo arrive back at Lassiters. Aaron spots them arriving and thinks he's telling them news (that Vic is back - Byron got a text when he was showing off his stilt walking) but of course they already know.
Any talk about what Aaron's special talent is, is curtailed when Krista spots Melanie and gets out of the car to go talk to her but first a hug is needed!
Number 24
Jane wants to know why Vic is back, but he wants to wait before Byron arrives to say. "I will not let you hurt our children again," Jane warns and that isn't Vic's intention.
Eventually Byron arrives and he isn't impressed at not just Vic being there but being called "son" too. Byron is very angry at his dad for how he left and Vic makes it clear that he wants Byron in his life, even the angry one he sees in front of him.
Harolds café
Melanie admits to Krista that she doesn't remember Vic at all. It would appear she never met him [even when they Stone family lived in the UK] and only saw a photo of him, which would have been about 30 years ago when they got married. Worse though - it then dawns on her that she is Vic's auntie through her marriage to Joe!!!
Meanwhile, Paul and Terese have finished lunch and she thanks him for listening to her. "Everyone is here for you," Paul says to her, which she gets but feels that they are actually pitying her unlike Paul who is always there for her "knowing exactly what to say and when to listen."
TERESE: You don't know how much that means to me.
PAUL: Glad I can help.
Number 24
Byron wants his dad to go but Nicolette wants him to stay so they can get answers. Vic admits he was stunned after discovering that he was in full remission and panicked because he'd left himself with "almost nothing" after promising them both "so much." He acknowledges taking the "easy way out" by writing them letters when he took off, because he knew they'd be disappointed at him pulling out of the agreement, especially after finally getting to a good place with them.
JANE: Do you honestly think that Nicolette and Byron cared about the money?
VIC: Well, I made a promise.
JANE: Another broken promise is the least of the issues here! Vic, this was about you not dying. That's why they are so upset, we all are, because we cared about you, not the money.
The penny is dropping for Vic given what Jane has said but moments later, Byron pipes up to tell his dad that he doesn't care about him..."not anymore, at least." Byron also reminds him that he screwed Leo over too, leaving them to clean up his mess. "And that's why I've come back," Vic replies, he wants to make up for all his bad decisions but Byron is quick to point out that they've given him "so many chances and you've blown them up."
Byron: I'm not gonna ask you again okay. It's time to leave.
To emphasise the point, Byron walks to the door and holds it open and eventually Vic exits adding "I'm not giving up" but Byron ignores him and closes the door in his face.
Number 32 (garden)
Nicolette follows her bother home and gets a lecture from him for keeping silent and not back him in up during the confrontation with Vic. "It's a lot to process," she tries to explain especially since she never thought she'd see him again. Byron gets that but is still bitter at being screwed over and demands that they need to "stick together" so Vic gets the message to leave them alone.
Nicolette remains silent and Byron questions if she is going soft on him but she shakes her head and replies that she isn't because "what he did to us was awful."
NICOLETTE: This time's different.
BYRON: You bet it is!
The Waterhole
Paul is nursing a whisky and pondering when Leo arrives. Leo asks if its Terese related and Paul admits that he is in a quandary - on one hand he tells himself that he "can handle loving Terese" but then also knows he needs to keep his distance.
PAUL: The reality... way different!
He agrees with Leo that he would never abandon Terese, he simply can't be there for her "the way that she needs me." However, Paul then adds that he does know who can be there for her.
Harolds café
After unloading all to Krista, Melanie apologises for doing that when Vic walks into the café and asks to talk to Melanie. "It's fine," she reassures Krista with and she exits the café to allow them to talk privately.
"I swear I didn't realise you were that Melanie," Vic opens with, which she accepts as likewise she had no idea that he was "that Vic." Both realise that things can't progress between them and Melanie admits that the person she was getting to know is very different from the person Jane described. "I don't want to be that guy anymore," Vic replies with but isn't sure people will take his word for it!
VIC: Somewhere out there, a lucky man is waiting for you.
After Vic walks out of the café, despite what has been said, you get the impression neither wanted to call things off between them.
