Garden of No.30
Wendy quizzes Holly about the money, who says it's none of Wendy's business! She quickly puts the money in her bag. Holly eventually tells her that she sold Heath's necklace and he left some other cash too. She asks her not to tell Karl and Susan.
Karl comes over and Wendy looks conflicted.
Waterhole
CARA: What do you want to drink?
JJ: Uh, I don't know. Does waiting to hear if Felix is getting out of jail warrant a beer?
REMI: Absolutely. But when you're eighteen...!
Andrew comes over and tells them that Felix *is* being released when he's well enough to be discharged from hospital. He'll be free to move within the state with no conditions.
JJ looks tense. He decides to go for a walk, texting someone as he goes.
CARA: When he was in jail, he was out of sight, out of mind. And now...
Foundation
Toadie and Nell are chatting about all the changes lately. Toadie tells her how well she's been handling things lately.
NELL: I really want you to be happy, Dad.
TOADIE: I want you to be happy too, darling.
He asks her if there's anything else going on as they haven't had a chance to catch up lately. She gets a text from JJ and glances at it, then tells Toadie there's nothing.
Terese passes by, but doesn't stop to talk.
Nell runs after Terese who is pleased to see her.
NELL:(awkwardly) Actually, there's something I wanted to ask you. Would it be OK if I stay over a couple of nights a week?
TERESE:(pleased) Of course! I'd absolutely love that. You know my house will always be yours.
They hug. Toadie watches them go from a distance.
Harold's Cafe
Wendy sees Holly and tells her to hand the money back. She wants her to gives the money back. Holly says it's fine - Krista is getting the money back from Tess anyway!
WENDY: Holly, a thief is a thief is a thief.
HOLLY: I didn't steal! I found! And spending it is making me feel better than I have in months. Heath put me through hell, this is victim's compensation!
WENDY: You do realise what a difficult position you're putting me in.
HOLLY: Just forget you ever saw anything.
WENDY: I'm married to a policeman!
HOLLY: You've kept secrets from Andrew before.
WENDY:(getting up). You're going to tell Andrew. If you don't, then I will.
She walks out. Holly looks alarmed.
Waterhole
Wendy sees Andrew and they talk about the JJ/Felix situation.
WENDY: Do you think you should tell them about what Felix said the last time you saw him in jail?
ANDREW: That he pretended to not care about JJ?
WENDY: Yeah.
ANDREW: No, no. I know that we both saw something different in Felix, but I don't think he's ever going to change. I don't trust him to do right, but I need him to. So, I have a plan.
Lassiter's Lake
JJ is talking to Nell about Felix. He's very confused about when Felix said he didn't want him in his life.
JJ: When I said I didn't want to see Felix, I thought that was it. But that was when he was going back to jail. I believed that we had this connection, and then he used me...and he said he didn't want me in his life. And, you know, if I never see Felix again, he can't hurt me like that again.
NELL: I really wish I could tell you what to do. But only you can figure that out. Good news is though, you will.
JJ: It's just...it doesn't feel like that.
NELL: Putting on my therapy girl hat here. You're super in touch with your head and your heart, even if it's all a little bit jumbled. You're starting from a point a lot of people never even get to.
He smiles.
JJ:(smiling) How did you get so wise?
NELL: All the things going on with my dad, I didn't have a choice.
JJ: Well, thank you. I feel a lot better just talking about it, so.
NELL: You can talk to me about whatever, whenever.
JJ: What if I don't want to talk...?
They kiss.
Waterhole
Holly is telling Aaron about her situation.
HOLLY: I've got a bit of a dilemma. Someone's told me to do the right thing. But I think they might be wrong about what's right, because the wrong thing feels right to me, and I'm not hurting anyone, so that's all that matters, right? Or wrong?
AARON: I'm going to give you a piece of wise bartender advice. Often, the best answer is a compromise between what the two parties want.
HOLLY: Of course.
AARON: I haven't been a bartender that long, you can't expect me to me *that* wise(!)
When Aaron has gone, Holly looks at the money in her bag and then picks up her phone.
Hospital
Andrew has organised a halfway house in West Warratah for Felix (sounds absolutely brilliant for someone hoping to go straight(!))
FELIX: I don't know how to thank you.
ANDREW: Thank me by staying away from my family and the Varga- Murphys.
FELIX: OK, I get that. I just hope one day I can redeem myself with you and Wendy and Sadie.
ANDREW: Yeah.
FELIX: But the Varga- Murphys. I told Cara and Remi that I would distance myself from JJ and I have. It killed me to break his heart. But I did it, and I'm not going to roll it back. I'm no good for him, and I will stay away.
Andrew looks relieved and tells Felix he'll see him soon.
Sonya's Foundation
Toadie is just locking up. He sees Sonya's mural on the wall and looks pensive.
He walks by the Law Office and looks pensive again.
Ramsay Street
Toadie looks pensively at No.30. Then he looks over at No.22.
Waterhole
Holly hands Andrew some money in an envelope, telling him she was going to keep it, but Wendy made her see sense.
ANDRREW: There's a lot of hundreds in there. At least five grand.
HOLLY: It's ten grand, actually.
ANDREW: Which makes me wonder how much of Heath's money is still out there. He stole a lot more than this.
HOLLY: I don't know. That's all that was in the locker.
ANDREW: Right, thanks.
HOLLY: My pleasure. I wouldn't want to get in trouble with the law.
She looks over at Wendy.
HOLLY: I'm really glad that you snuck into my backyard and yelled at me and wouldn't take 'mind your own business' for an answer(!)
WENDY: Um...you're welcome(!)
She asks them to keep this to themselves and not involve Karl and Susan.
WENDY: Now you've done the right thing, your secret's safe.
HOLLY: Thanks.
It's clear there's more to the story on Holly's part.
No.30
Toadie tells Karl and Susan that the Foundation is running well. He thanks them for taking him in and always being there for him.
KARL: Everything OK, Toad?
TOADIE: Yeah, yeah. Well, it will be if it all goes to plan. Um...I've made a decision. It's just a natural progression really, given all the other decisions that I've made lately. I think that it is time for a change. And I want to move the kids to Colac.
Karl and Susan are shocked.
SUSAN: Colac?!
TOADIE: Yeah, yeah, to be with my family, yeah. For them, for me, for Terese, for everyone.
KARL: Hang on. Are you talking permanently?
TOADIE: For the foreseeable, yeah.
Karl and Susan look at each other.
TOADIE: I just, I feel that so much happened here that we all really need a fresh start. I know this is a bit of a shock.
KARL: It will be for the kids, too!
SUSAN: Yeah, especially Nell. She's very attached to Terese.
TOADIE: Yeah, I'm not underestimating that. But we're only a few hours down the road. I'm not going to force them, that wouldn't be the right thing to do. But I am going to try my hardest to get them to see that this is for the best. And I would really appreciate your support on that.
KARL: Oh, Toad. You've been here with us longer than our own kids. I can't imagine Erinsborough without you. It just wouldn't feel like home, we'd miss you too much.
TOADIE: Guys, come on, we're still going to be in each other's lives, nothing's going to change that.
SUSAN: I think we just need some time to get our heads around this.
KARL: Yeah.
TOADIE: Yeah, of course.
SUSAN: Toadie, of course we will support you. But I really think Nell is going to be an issue.
TOADIE: I just need to make her and Hugo see that a new chapter in Colac is exactly what we need.
They realise that Terese has come in through the open front door and heard this last bit.
TERESE: What?!
An awkward silence descends.
TOADIE: Terese...
TERESE: What, you're thinking of taking the kids away?
An even more awkward silence. Then, after a long pause, Terese walks out.
TOADIE: Terese!
No.28
Holly is looking at car adverts on her phone, including one being sold for $54.900! It seems she has messaged the seller already. She tells him she's going to think about it.
No.22
Toadie comes in.
TOADIE: I'm sorry you found out that way. I was going to tell you, but I wanted to talk to the kids first.
TERESE: You know, Nell just asked if she could stay here a few nights a week?
TOADIE: No...I didn't know that she was planning that.
TERESE: You know, those kids need stability. And I want to give it to them. I thought that's what we were trying to do!
TOADIE: That's why I'm suggesting the move.
TERESE: I thought you said you wanted me in their lives!
TOADIE: I do, and you will be, just not every day. A fresh start is what's going to be best for everyone here.
TERESE: (incredulous) Best for everyone!? I mean, I can see how it's best for you. I mean, you get to wipe the slate clean! You get to wash your hands and leave it all behind! And I'm left here alone, on my own with nothing, nobody.
TOADIE: That wasn't my intention...
TERESE: Haven't you taken enough from me, Toadie? How could you be *so* cruel? But it's not about anybody else. It's about you, running away, because that's what you do now, isn't it!
TOADIE: I'm sorry. I am...I realise that asking for your support is too much.
TERESE: No, asking *them* is too much. They won't agree, at least Nell won't. I mean, Erinsborough is the only home that she knows.
TOADIE: I was wanting to give them the chance to make their own decision.
She takes this in.
TERESE: When are you putting it to them?
TOADIE: First thing in the morning.
TERESE: I want to be there.
TOADIE: Okay, alright. Just please know that I'm trying to do the best thing for everyone.
He walks out, upset. Terese looks devastated.
Hospital
Felix tells the nurse that God has helped him to get out of jail. He picks up his bible and starts reading it (he seems to be sincere about religion)
Harold's Cafe
Andrew is telling Cara and Remi that Felix has agreed to stay away. When Andrew has gone, Remi tells Cara that Wade is also on the wall. She doesn't want Haz and Mack to know.
No.28
Toadie has called Nell and Hugo to the table and Terese is there too.
TOADIE: So, um, I've been doing a bit of thinking, and I've got a proposal for you. I think it could be time for a fresh start. So, I'd like us to move to Colac.
Nell takes this in.
NELL:(to Terese) Is he for real?
She nods.
NELL:(angrily) No, I don't want to go anywhere! (To Hugo) Neither do you, right?
TOADIE: I know this is a bit of a shock. So I want you to at least consider it, give it some proper thought.
NELL:(upset) The answer is still no! I am not leaving my friends and my school...(to Terese) and you!
TOADIE: You guys love it in Colac. You're going to get spoilt by Nan and Big Kev and you'll be able to hang out with your cousins, go horse- riding, go dirt- bike riding. Yeah? (To Hugo) What do you reckon?
HUGO: I don't know.
NELL: Yeah. Well, your proposal has been rejected! End of story!
TOADIE: Okay, well, I don't want your decision right now. I want us to go through pros and cons...
Nell gets up.
TERESE: Nell!
Nell storms out.
TOADIE: Please, Nell, if you just give me a chance...
TERESE: Nell!
There is a pause.
HUGO: Can I go and shoot some hoops?
TOADIE: Sure, mate.
After a pause, Terese turns to Toadie.
TERESE: Well, you've got your answer.
TOADIE: I think I need to give them a bit more time.
TERESE: Why do you have to take something else away from then?
TOADIE: I'm trying to give them a fresh start in a new environment away from all of the pain and the hurt.
TERESE: The pain and hurt that you caused.
TOADIE:(emotionally) Yep. Yeah, I did. I'm not going to deny that. But you know what, Terese? There's been a whole lot of other trauma that has happened here. And I'm not free of it. And it keeps driving me to make bad decisions and the people that I love, including you, deserve way better than what I've been giving them. Those kids deserve...they deserve a father that is rock solid in every single way and can't be the best version of myself *here*. I need some space just to...heal! This is seriously the only way I can see us moving forward. And you know what? I think that Nell will actually soon realise that apart from you, Karl and Susan there's actually not much keeping her here.
Terese does not look convinced.
