- David tells Freya that somebody knows about Gareth, after receiving an anonymous note
- He later receives a second note asking if Aaron knows what he's done, and finds an OPA on his car seat
Erinsborough Hospital
In the car park, Freya is looking at the oropharyngeal airway (OPA) on David's car seat.
FREYA: You really think it's the same one we threw in the bush?
DAVID: They all look alike. Anyway, how could it be? That'd mean whoever was threatening us was at River Bend, and saw what happened to Gareth.
FREYA: Is that even a possibility?
DAVID: Well, they know. So they either saw us, or they've overheard us talking.
FREYA: Why are they targeting you? (...) They put the notes on your desk; they put the OPA in your car. It just... seems personal.
DAVID: But you thought it was Emma.
FREYA: Yeah, well, I've got Levi to look into that - but she was mad at me, she wasn't mad at you. Maybe we should be looking for someone who'd specifically hurt you.
DAVID: I have an idea.
He marches back towards the hospital, and Freya hurries after him.
Lassiter's Complex
Chloe and Terese are waiting for Montana, when they see her approaching - with Mick.
CHLOE: If I'd known he was coming I might've had that second coffee.
Montana has requested the meeting, it seems, to help Fashion Week to get back on track after the blip with Paul almost getting it cancelled.
TERESE: Any thoughts?
MICK: Montana doesn't have thoughts, she has visions.
MONTANA: (...) We need something festive to clear the air. Something that makes it clear that Lassiter's is completely committed to Fashion Week.
CHLOE: Oh, I can assure you, Lassiter's couldn't be more -
MONTANA: I want a soiree. I do. A pre-launch meet-and-greet with all the key players. A fabulous night of... of excess and sophistication.
MICK: Woo-ee!
TERESE (nervous laugh): So when you say excess, you mean...?
MONTANA: Bespoke cocktails, crystal glassware, maybe a celebrity chef.
MICK: Ooh, yes. Roaming musicians, burlesque dancers, fireworks...
TERESE: It's not a little too much?
MICK: Mm, it's Montana's party, and she'll buy if she wants to.
Terese grudgingly says she's sure they can work something out. So Montana gets ready to leave, saying they can liaise with Mick over the details!
CHLOE: Oh, I'm confident we can handle it without -
MONTANA: I have to go, I have a meeting. Thank you. Ciao!
Once Montana and Mick have left, Terese worries that they don't have the budget or staff for the soiree.
Nearby, Hendrix is just finishing up a run, when Mackenzie approaches. She tells him she just passed Montana and got completely ignored by her, so she really needs another careers pep talk from Hendrix. Hendrix has been listening in about the soiree, and tells Mackenzie he has an idea.
HENDRIX: How do you feel about party planning?
Erinsborough Hospital
David and Freya come back into the building and immediately see Dean. David angrily accosts him.
DAVID: Whatever you want from me, this isn't the way to get it.
DEAN: I'm sorry, what?
DAVID: This sick game you're playing. Leave me alone.
DEAN: David, I've got no idea what you're talking about.
DAVID: Oh, come on, this is so you.
DEAN: Oh, is it? How would you know? You don't want anything to do with me. You just wanted a shoulder to cry on.
DAVID: You manipulated me! And now you're doing it again because I rejected you.
DEAN: Yeah, I think you're the one out for blood.
Freya, who has been watching this exchange with concern, tells David they should leave. David tells Dean to leave him alone again, but Dean says he has - and tells David to stop hassling him over things he knows nothing about. Freya drags David away.
Lassiter's Hotel
Chloe and Terese are working in the office, and Mackenzie has followed them in, much to Chloe's chagrin as they are very busy! But Mackenzie wants them to take her on as an unpaid intern to help with Fashion Week. Mackenzie says she can help organise Fashion Week, and deal with Mick for them - adding that she's really good at multitasking, and super-passionate about working with Montana.
TERESE: Done. You're hired!
MACKENZIE: Really?
TERESE: Well, you said the magic word.
MACKENZIE: Passionate?
TERESE: Unpaid.
But Mackenzie is thrilled regardless!
Ramsay Street
Hendrix and Freya are helping Kiri move her belongings from her car into No 24. Hendrix remarks on how little there is to move; Kiri says she's never been big on possessions. Chloe and Mackenzie arrive to help too, and Mackenzie tells Hendrix that his plan about the unpaid internship worked. As Chloe and Kiri continue to unload the car, Nicolette and Jane approach from along the street.
NICOLETTE: Today's the day!
JANE: Are you alright?
NICOLETTE: Yeah, Mum, fine.
They wave awkwardly at Kiri and Chloe.
No 32
Back indoors, Nicolette tells Jane that she's decided to take her advice, and use the opportunity of Kiri living nearby as an opportunity to show her 'the real me'. David is in the kitchen, and when Jane goes to move his bag from the sofa, he shouts, 'Leave it!' David takes the bag and apologises for overreacting, but Jane and Nicolette are a little surprised. Aaron comes in, and wonders what's going on.
DAVID: Nothing, I, umm... I'm sorry, I... I just had a long shift at work.
AARON: Look, I think it's been a stressful couple of months. Maybe it's all just caught up to you. Why don't you consider taking some leave?
NICOLETTE: Yeah, that's a great idea. It'd be good for you and your patients.
DAVID: Yeah, yeah, I'll think about it.
David apologises to Jane again and heads to his room to rest, still clutching the bag.
The Waterhole
Leo, Montana and Paul are having dinner, while Leo and Montana flirt with one another. Montana reminds Paul that the prospectus for her 'glaMM' cosmetics brand is sitting in his inbox as a prospective investor, but he tells her he's doing his 'due diligence' before making any commitment.
MONTANA: You don't want to miss out, trust me.
Mackenzie turns up, and introduces herself as to Montana as 'your new Fashion Week intern'. She offers her hand to shake, but Montana just pulls a face!
MACKENZIE: I work for Jarrod Rebecchi... you called him an ambulance-chaser for trying to solicit your business.
MONTANA: Oh yes, I remember.
PAUL (to Mackenzie): Are you in fancy dress?
MACKENZIE (to Montana): You said in your newsletter that hats were back for winter, so I got it on Marketplace. Did you know there was a massive online market for your vintage accessories?
MONTANA: I don't care. Let's go back to the intern part?
MACKENZIE: Yes, of course. Terese hired me to help you with whatever you need for Fashion Week.
MONTANA: Mick handles all that stuff.
MACKENZIE: I promise I will be an asset to the team. I am hard-working, honest and meticulous about detail. Plus - the best bit - I don't cost a cent.
MONTANA: I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I am a control freak, so (...) there won't be enough for you to do.
Disappointed, Mackenzie says that in which case, she'll see what she can do on the Lassiter's side of things. Montana doesn't object to this; but after Mackenzie's gone, Leo tells Montana that Mackenzie is very smart and hard-working, and could really help her.
PAUL: Yeah. A lot more than that clown you hired.
MONTANA: Mick does what I need him to do.
PAUL: Oh, he makes himself look foolish so that you look stellar in comparison?
Leo continues to sing Mackenzie's praises, saying she's really diligent and will probably be prime minister one day. Montana looks a little bit freaked out by this, if anything, and doesn't offer any more comment.
River Bend
David is running along the road at what looks like River Bend. He looks around him, panicked, and then glances down at his hands, which are covered in blood. He's also holding an OPA. He throws it into the bush, then...
No 32
... wakes up in his bedroom, to find Aaron looking at him.
AARON: Boo, hey. It's alright - you were just dreaming.
DAVID (worried): What was I saying? ... Aaron?
AARON (gravely): I know what you did. I know you killed him.
David then wakes up a second time.
AARON: Boo, hey. It's alright - you were just dreaming (...) Why don't you come out and eat?
DAVID (shaken): Yeah, yeah. I'll be out there in a minute.
Harold's Café
Terese and Glen are having dinner. Nicolette greets Terese, but not Glen, as she serves them their meals!
GLEN: I ordered the Pizza Bianco - no tomato.
NICOLETTE (abrupt): That's not on the menu.
GLEN: You said it'd be fine.
NICOLETTE (petulant): Oh, did I?
She walks off, clearly enjoying holding a grudge against Glen for what he said to Kiri about her. Terese thinks Glen should take the meal back to the counter, but Glen seems content to let Nicolette get the anger out of her system. At the counter, Hendrix reminds Nicolette that the customer is always right - not in Glen's case, she retorts!
Kiri comes in, and Glen asks her how she's settling in - she says she's embracing the change. She asks Glen how he'd feel about carpooling to the vineyard.
KIRI: It'd be nice to have the company, and we'd be saving the planet.
GLEN: Yeah, sure. Why not?
Kiri heads to the counter, and Terese asks Glen if he's really ready to be spending so much time with her. Glen smiles and says he thinks he is.
At the counter, Kiri asks Nicolette for some sweet treats to impress her new housemates. Nicolette immediately knows all the girls' favourites, and Kiri is surprised that everyone knows each other so well.
NICOLETTE: It is that kind of street.
KIRI: ... Hey, thanks for making this easy.
NICOLETTE: You're welcome (...) On the house.
Kiri thanks Nicolette, and goes on her way with the cakes.
No 32
Aaron gives David his dinner, and watches him as he begins to eat, clearly worried about David who still looks shaken.
AARON: You're not doing too good, huh?
DAVID: Apparently not.
AARON: Listen, why don't we just chill out tomorrow? We can go for a drive if you want, or maybe just hang out by the pool?
DAVID: Sure.
Freya then turns up, and Aaron says it's not a great time; but she says she needs to 'talk through some work stuff' with David - 'the confidential stuff'. David reluctantly says it's okay, and Aaron leaves them to talk.
FREYA: You okay?
DAVID: ... I just had a nightmare about Gareth. I feel like I'm losing it.
FREYA: Yeah. Yeah, that's actually why I came. I think we should go back to River Bend, and try and find the OPA. You know, at least then we'll know if it was the one that was left in your car.
DAVID: It won't help us figure out who's doing this.
FREYA: Yeah, but at least it's proactive. And if I drive, you might actually be able to catch up on some sleep.
David agrees, and says they'll have to leave first thing tomorrow.
Lassiter's Complex
The next day, Mick and Montana are heading towards the courtyard, discussing Fashion Week plans.
MICK: We could hang an aerialist from the ballroom ceiling. Or maybe we could string the models up there in silks like human salami, or like meat carcasses.
MONTANA: Hmm. Maybe.
Mackenzie appears behind them.
MACKENZIE: I don't think it's worth it. I know from my experience at the local council that the insurance premiums will cost you a fortune (...)
MICK: Oh, well, who asked you?
Mackenzie explains she's been tasked by Terese with checking all the clearances for Fashion Week, and has assessed suppliers that Montana has used for previous festivals in order to negotiate favourable fees.
MONTANA: And how did you get this information?
MACKENZIE: I took a deep dive on your socials and took a note of who you tagged. Told you I was thorough.
MICK: Oh, that's not thorough - that's stalking. *I* could do that.
MONTANA: I told you, we don't need an intern.
MACKENZIE: I know, but Terese is set on making sure this runs as smoothly as possible. So if there's anyone you want me to liaise with in particular, just let me know.
MONTANA: Thank you, but Mick and I can handle my affairs.
MICK: What she said, sweetie.
Montana and Mick walk away. 'The offer still stands,' shouts Mackenzie as they go. 'I'd love to learn from you in any way I can!'
MONTANA: Is she still talking?
MICK: What a suck.
River Bend
David is back, for real this time, with Freya, walking along the stretch of road where the crash happened.
DAVID: It feels weird being back.
FREYA: Yeah. It's like his ghost has set up camp or something.
DAVID: Let's just find the OPA and leave (...) I still think Dean could've overheard us in the complex, stolen an OPA from the hospital, and put it in my car.
FREYA: Yeah, I don't think that Dean's our guy. He had no idea what you were talking about.
DAVID: He's the only person I can think of who'd want to hurt me.
FREYA: Mm, but does he really seem capable of this? He seemed pretty harmless to me.
DAVID: Has Levi got back to you?
FREYA: Yeah, he did - he did. Emma's been interstate the entire time, so she hasn't been around to put notes in a hospital.
DAVID: Or out here finding an OPA.
FREYA: Mm. I guess that rules her out as a suspect.
DAVID: But not Dean.
FREYA (unconvinced): Guess not.
The Waterhole
Terese, Chloe, Montana and Mackenzie are having another meeting about Fashion Week. Montana is annoyed to learn that Mackenzie has been going through her paperwork in order to liaise with suppliers. Terese assures her Mackenzie is more than capable.
MACKENZIE: Yes, and not to be rude, but Mick tends to overpromise and underdeliver.
PAUL (passing): Mm. She's not wrong, you know.
MONTANA (to Mackenzie): I am just surprised that someone so... striking could be so hard-working. In my experience, pretty people don't try so hard.
MACKENZIE (unsure if this is a compliment): Thank you?
MONTANA: Have you ever considered modelling?
MACKENZIE: (shakes her head)
TERESE: Oh, no, I don't think that's ever been on Mackenzie's radar.
CHLOE: She's more of a feminist warrior type.
MONTANA: Well, you could absolutely do it. You're a total clotheshorse. You have the height, the bone structure - I could absolutely see you on a catwalk.
MACKENZIE (disbelieving): Seriously?
PAUL: Hang on, she's completely inexperienced.
MONTANA: So? I need a local star to promote more than I need an intern. What do you say?
Mackenzie is speechless.
River Bend
David is searching the bush for the OPA, while Freya stands in the road, staring conflictedly at the site where the bus crashed. David gets a call from Aaron, but he declines the call, and returns to Freya's side, empty-handed.
FREYA: Hey, maybe someone found it in the bush clean-up.
DAVID: Or, someone saw me throw the stupid thing away, and then planted it in my car to torture me.
FREYA: I'm sorry, man.
The Penthouse
Leo and Montana are all lovey-dovey on the couch when Harlow comes in, back from her London trip. Leo introduces Montana to Harlow, and then Paul comes in and gives Harlow a welcome-home hug.
Montana gets a text from Mackenzie, saying she'd rather intern than model at Fashion Week. But Montana is still convinced that she needs a star, not an intern.
PAUL: For somebody so busy, you seem awfully resistant to free help.
HARLOW: Well, Mack can do both in her sleep.
LEO: I've tried telling her.
Unwilling to indulge the discussion further, Montana decides she has to go. Leo wants to go with her, but Montana curtly tells him she has business to deal with, and heads for the lift. Paul looks suspicious.
Lassiter's Complex
Mick brings Mackenzie for an 'urgent' meeting with Montana, while Hendrix lingers curiously in the background.
MACKENZIE (to Mick): If all she's gonna do is scream at me for turning her down, I'd rather not.
MONTANA: There you are!
MACKENZIE: Montana, please know I am so grateful for the opportunity. But I think I should just focus on the internship instead of getting caught up in a fantasy.
MONTANA: Oh, this isn't a fantasy. I'm offering you a very real chance to model at Fashion Week.
MACKENZIE: But I can barely walk in heels.
MONTANA: Then we'll make it a barefoot trend. Your legs are long enough as it is.
MACKENZIE: You're just making stuff up.
Nearby, Harlow joins Hendrix, and they both watch Montana and Mackenzie from a distance.
MONTANA (to Mackenzie): You don't do compliments, do you?
MACKENZIE: No, I don't like talking about my body.
MONTANA: Why's that?
MACKENZIE (upset): I used to get... I used to get bullied a lot in school because I'm trans.
MICK (to Montana): Oh, I thought you knew.
MONTANA: No. But that doesn't change anything, Mackenzie. Those kids are idiots. You are very beautiful.
MACKENZIE: Thank you. That means more to me than you could possibly know. Honestly, I...
MONTANA: I don't want to hear excuses - I don't. The world needs to see you, Mackenzie - if not for you, then for all the other little Mackenzies out there, that never thought they would be celebrated. I mean, wouldn't you have loved to have trans role models growing up?
MACKENZIE (emotional): Of course.
MONTANA: Then, be that for someone else. What do you say?
MACKENZIE: ... Okay. I'll do it!
MONTANA: Good. Make sure to tell Terese and Chloe that you can't continue their internship.
MACKENZIE: Okay, of course. Thank you so much.
Mackenzie walks off, excited.
MICK: I was picked on once, and called an alpaca. Which is weird because I rock a pair of platform boots.
MONTANA: No-one cares.
Mackenzie rejoins Hendrix and Harlow, still in disbelief over what happened.
HENDRIX: Did you just get begged to be Australia's next top model?
MACKENZIE: Did that actually just happen? (...) I mean, she's my idol! I'd be crazy to say no.
HENDRIX: Uh-huh. Let's go celebrate.
Hendrix wants to go to Harold's, but Harlow isn't keen.
HENDRIX: Ned's got a shift this arvo, I'm sure he'd want to see you too.
This is, of course, exactly why Harlow doesn't want to go there. But she reluctantly follows them.
No 32
Aaron is waiting at the table when David comes in, and silently gestures for him to sit down. David's bag is waiting on the table.
AARON: I noticed you nearly bit Jane's head off when she tried to grab the bag yesterday. Then you disappeared this morning without saying anything, so I thought maybe there's something in here to do with what Freya is worried about.
DAVID: Look, wait...
But Aaron has already retrieved the threatening note from David's bag.
AARON: What is going on?!
Coming up on Neighbours
