The Flamingo Bar Exterior
People are setting up food vans and tech for the festival.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Chloe assures Terese and Paul that everything's running smoothly for the festival and that the screenings in the hotel's function rooms are about to start. Paul actually commends Chloe on her good work, but can't help wondering if they should brainstorm some last minute add-ons to increase their profits. Terese reminds Paul he had plenty of time to suggest ideas during the planning phase and doesn't understand why he's micro managing now. Paul backs down and says Terese is right, trying to hide his money stress with a smile.
David and Aaron's Bedroom
Isla won't stop crying and David and Aaron think it's because she doesn't have her soft toy rabbit Brent made her. The boys can't find the toy anywhere, though. David goes to have another look in the living room while Aaron tries to soothe Isla.
Ramsay Street
Britney stands out the front of Number 32, clutching the rabbit toy to her chest that she stole from Isla's crib. She can hear Isla crying.
David and Aaron's Bedroom
Returning without any luck, David suggests they just swap out the rabbit with a different toy. But the boys get a break when Isla suddenly stops crying and falls asleep. Aaron says they should probably nap while she does. David asks if they can push through - the house is a mess and they've got the film festival to attend. While Aaron's onboard with the festival, he'll take snoozing over cleaning any day.
AARON: Should we make the festival a daddy day? Jane and Susan might want to babysit.
DAVID: No, let's make it a daddies/daughter date.
AARON: Yeah, all right, the best date ever.
Ramsay Street
Britney continues to stare at Number 32 in a conflicted manner.
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Rose works on her laptop while Kyle chats with Roxy, who has been up since the crack of dawn helping Amy set up for the festival. Amy asks Kyle to hand some fliers out for her, but Kyle says he's on his way to watch a European film. At first Roxy's impressed Kyle's watching something with subtitles, but Amy thinks Kyle's not really going for the culture. "I previewed all the films in that category," Rose chimes in. "They are all pure raunch." Flustered, Kyle runs off, passing Melanie who is there to deliver a USB stick to Amy, calling her a lifesaver. But when Roxy and Amy are needed elsewhere, Amy leaves the USB on the outdoor bar and in Rose's line of sight.
Harold's Café
Susan and Karl are grabbing coffees before heading to the festival. They run into Jane and ask if she's attending the event, but Jane admits she's not bought tickets to anything. The festival is a harsh reminder that the winery footage she collected outed Chloe and Leo and "Nicolette might have still been here if she hadn't seen it". Susan says Jane mustn't blame herself, but can't stay and comfort her friend further as Karl's urging her out the door or they'll be late for their movie.
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Rose is watching whatever Melanie had on her USB on her laptop. She doesn't hear Toadie speak to her at first, but soon yanks out her headphones and slams the laptop shut when she realises she has company. Toadie teasingly asks what she's up to and Rose smiles and says she's just googling her own name. Toadie says he just saw the VIP area and it looks great. Rose tells him she's really looking forward to their date, but is a little concerned with Toadie's underwhelming "same" response. When she cautiously questions him on it, Toadie assures her he's keen, he just hasn't had his morning coffee yet. When Toadie leaves, Rose takes the USB stick and plops into her mug of coffee to ruin it.
Harold's Café
Hendrix asks Karl and Susan what the movie they saw was about, but instantly regrets it when they insinuate it was a raunchy one. Karl then asks if Hendrix has been to the testicular cancer testing booth yet. When Hendrix says no, Susan tells him he should go now while Karl's not doing a shift.
HENDRIX: Why bother? I'm not at risk.
KARL: No, testicular cancer is most commonly diagnosed in young males.
Susan sees Melanie walk in and joins her at the counter to catch up. Melanie excitedly tells her that she gave the USB to Amy earlier and she'll be showing her movie tonight. Susan says she's proud of Melanie, and that she's being so brave. But Melanie isn't feeling brave: "I feel sick - I hope it doesn't blow up in my face". Susan promises it won't, but the good mood doesn't last when Amy approaches them and admits that she lost Melanie's USB stick. Melanie freaks out because she doesn't have a copy, but Susan says they'll get Mackenzie to make another one from the backup and hopefully get it to Amy on time.
Lassiters Complex
A doctor finds Hendrix out the front of the testicular cancer testing booth and invites him to head behind the curtains. Once he's there, Hendrix drops his trousers and waits. After the testing takes place the doctor says they'll have a chat outside.
Aaron and David wheel Isla's pram through the complex and think about heading to the food trucks. But then David remembers there's a photo booth with really cute costumes. "Baby's first fashion shoot!" Aaron exclaims, won over. Meanwhile, Britney continues to lurk around in the background, spying on them.
Back at the testing booth, Hendrix is stunned when the doctor tells him he found a lump. The doctor says it could be a benign cyst or a blocked tube, but he'd like Hendrix to book an appointment with his GP as soon as possible. When Hendrix continues to stand there in shocked silence, the doctor asks if he'd like to call anyone to meet them, but Hendrix finds his voice and says he'll be fine.
The Waterhole
Chloe finds Toadie at the bar, dithering over what bottle of drink to buy for his date with Rose. Noticing Paul and Terese walk in, Chloe loudly suggests Toadie go for the top shelf bubbles and a gourmet sharing plate too. Chloe heads over to Paul and Terese, where Paul compliments her on the "nice upsell". He then asks how ticket sales are going and Chloe reports that they sold out of the main event half an hour ago. When Paul steps aside to take a phone call, Chloe gives Terese more updates on how the festival should pan out, including ending the night with a fireworks display. "I will need a thirty day settlement," Paul says on the phone as he saunters back to the table.
TERESE: What was that about?
PAUL: Looks like I might have a buyer for Power Road on the hook. But I need to have a quick settlement, I want to get the monkey off my back.
TERESE: You don't want to talk to me about the offer before committing?
PAUL: There's no need, it's a good, straightforward deal. It's all right, I've got it under control.
Elsewhere in the bar, Britney is on the phone with someone.
BRITNEY: I'm not going to do anything stupid, but you must know how hard this is for me... Fine, whatever. I need some air, I'll call you back.
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Night has fallen and the film festival is in full swing. Cars are parked out in front of the big movie screen and people are milling about enjoying the atmosphere, the bar and the food trucks. Rose finds Roxy and Amy manning the bar and asks for more cocktails for their VIP guests, but the ladies are already on it. Kyle joins them and compliments Roxy on a job well done with the set up. He also thinks they're a shoo-in to win the movie prize. Melanie suddenly appears, out of breath and with twigs in her hair, after racing all the way from Ramsay Street to get her film delivered.
AMY: Why didn't you get an Uber, Mel?
MELANIE: Because Ubers can't jump fences!
Rose is having none of it, though, and informs Melanie that it's too late to put her entry in. Amy begs her to include the film considering it's her fault, but Rose says the deadline was yesterday and Melanie should have been more organised.
MELANIE: If I had this film ready three weeks ago you still would have found a way to stink it up for me.
ROSE: It's not personal, Melanie, but I'm sorry it is final.
David grabs some food at the truck and heads back to Aaron. He doesn't notice Britney is standing in line behind him, tracing his movements. Roxy, Kyle and Sheila are stoked when their film 'A Bird's Eye View' appears on screen. At first Kyle and Sheila are put out when everyone seems to be laughing at their movie, as it's not meant to be a comedy. "What's funny about a pigeon trying to find love?" Kyle grumbles. But Roxy thinks they've struck unintentional gold and it could lead them to the prize money. Melanie then creeps up on Roxy and pleads with her to sneak her film into the mix. Roxy is hesitant at first, not wanting to get in trouble, but gives in when Melanie says Rose has sabotaged her and she needs a win.
Hendrix's zombie film, 'Gore and Order', is up next. Mackenzie and Karl are excited but Hendrix is in quite a subdued mood after his health scare. Mackenzie says that casting Mrs Punt as a zombie hunter was a stroke of genius.
HENDRIX: You don't want to know what I had to do to repay the favour.
MACKENZIE: Actually I really do.
HENDRIX: Nuh-uh.
Karl is happy when his part in the film appears on screen, and is particularly pleased with himself with how the scare panned out (that Hendrix sprung upon him).
KARL: Surprisingly natural given I was in on the prank. Very Paul Newman-esque.
The film wraps and Mackenzie tells Hendrix they should go out clubbing to celebrate. But Hendrix isn't in the mood, claiming he's tired.
Over in the VIP marquee, Toadie and Rose are enjoying some drinks. The speeches are up next and Rose says she's feeling a bit nervous about delivering them. Toadie tells her to picture everyone naked. "Maybe just one of them," she smirks. But she's soon caught off-guard when another movie called 'Ode to Toad' appears on the screen.
Karl's ears prick up when he realises Melanie has used his 'Illusionist' music for her film. In the movie, Melanie enters a fortune teller's tent and sits down with "Madame Susannah" for a reading, played of course by one Susan Kennedy. Melanie asks the Madame to tell her what her future holds.
Rose is annoyed that Melanie somehow got her film included, and is about to hop on a walkie talkie to get it taken down when she notices how absorbed Toadie is in the film. On screen, Toadie's face appears in the crystal ball, but movie Melanie sadly says "that's not my future, that's my past". Rose sees that Toadie is quite delighted by the film and knows the jig is up. She puts the walkie talkie down and walks away. Toadie's eyes haven't left the screen and he watches as movie Melanie makes a heartfelt speech.
MELANIE: Toadie, you make me a better me. And I think I do the same for you. You ground me, and I outer space you. We're a team and I love that for us. My heart is with you. You're loyal, and giving and kind. And hunky and spunky to boot! (Toadie chuckles) Don't get me started about the junk in your trunk because your tushie deserves its own fan club! (It cuts to Madame Susannah looking slightly perturbed) You're the only king of my jungle. The big cat of my dreams. And I love being part of your pack. And if you'll take me back, we'll have an amazing future together, I know it.
Toadie's standing in the VIP section, stunned, when Melanie approaches him with a shy smile.
MELANIE: I meant every word. I love you, and I'm sorry. Please ask your heart if it feels the same way that I do.
A short while later, Melanie and Toadie congregate near the outdoor bar with Amy, Roxy, Hendrix and Mackenzie. Amy gives the good news to Melanie that her film won first prize, which Mel is delighted about. Toadie and Melanie then share with everyone that they're back together. "It's what this heart wants," Toadie grins.
ROXY: And you said all that nice stuff about his butt!
MELANIE: I can't believe I won my man back and the competition. So didn't see that happening! Neither did Madame Zolga.
Toadie hopes they could keep the news on the down-low for the moment, though, as he's technically still on a date with Rose. Speaking of, Rose appears with a giant novelty cheque in hand. Hoping to divert from any awkwardness, Amy starts babbling, asking Rose if they're wrapping up soon as Levi's got something planned for her. But Rose says it's fine as she's only got one more official duty to perform. "Congratulations on behalf of the film festival," she says, passing the cheque to Melanie. "You win." Melanie thanks her and Toadie takes Rose aside for a private chat.
TOADIE: I'm so sorry to stuff you around. Everything I said I did mean, just my head was a bit messed up.
ROSE: It's fine. I mean it's not fine, it's super disappointing, but I saw you watching her in that film. She makes you happy.
TOADIE: Yeah she does.
ROSE: Well if you're happy then I'm happy. Genuinely. So I guess this is the part of the night where I say 'thank you for a lovely evening' and add this to my repertoire of weird and wonderful dating stories.
TOADIE: (smiling) It was definitely both of those, wasn't it.
ROSE: I hope we can still be friends.
TOADIE: Always.
She says goodbye and Toadie heads back to Melanie and the gang.
Over in David and Aaron's car, Isla is asleep in the back in her car capsule. Aaron says Melanie's film was definitely the best of the bunch, but David credits it to Susan's performance. "Next time I see her at Harold's I'm going to ask her to read my tea leaves," Aaron chuckles. Paul and Terese walk over to talk, and David and Aaron get out of the car so Isla doesn't wake up. But the 'keep quiet' plan is ruined anyway when the fireworks suddenly go off. The crowd is enthralled, but David walks around the back of the car to check on Isla. He's alarmed when he finds the car door wide open - and horrified when he realises the back seat is empty.
DAVID: Aaron! She's gone! Isla's gone!
Aaron, Paul and Terese stare at him in shock as the fireworks continue to explode above them.
