Rotunda
Silence prevails after Nicolette pops the question, so Nic grins and asks Chloe for an answer before she tips over. Chloe gives the briefest of nods, and Nicolette wonders if that's a yes. "It is," Chloe replies. "Yes, I'll marry you." Thrilled, Nicolette stands up and wraps Chloe in a hug. But over Nicolette's shoulder, Chloe looks like she's already regretting her decision to accept.
Number 30
Mackenzie is trying to help Yashvi pack, but Yashvi gets quite short with her and says she doesn't need any assistance. Toadie observes how hurt Mackenzie looks. Yashvi's snappish demeanour strikes again when Levi calls by with a goodbye gift, but Vi says she's too busy to open it right now. When Levi and Mackenzie leave, Toadie has a word with his niece about how harsh she's being to her friends.
Harold's Café
Mackenzie joins Hendrix at his table and looks as though she needs to vent about Yashvi, but Hendrix gets distracted when he sees Ned. The couple ask how the new job is going and Ned says it's pretty similar to The Flamingo Bar so it's not too bad. But the one thing tripping him up is "the food side". Hendrix offers Ned information about 'FIFO' aka 'first in first out' when it comes to food prep, leading Ned to realise he's going to have to hire more help in the kitchen. Mackenzie immediately points out how perfect Hendrix would be for the role. Ned says he'll have to check in with Dipi, but he'd be keen to hire Hendrix.
Community Centre Exterior
David and Aaron are having a chat with Nic's pregnant friend, Maya, from their antenatal class while they wait for Nic to show up. David's stressing that something's gone wrong, but Aaron warns him to take deep breaths just like they learnt in class. Before they get to the building, Chloe tells Nicolette they should keep their engagement a secret for the time being so it doesn't take any attention away from the baby. But as soon as they reach the boys, Nicolette blurts out that they're engaged. The boys are stunned as they give the girls congratulatory hugs. Maya smiles and says Chloe and Nic are going to make the most gorgeous brides. While Nic heads inside with David and her friend, Aaron hangs back to speak with Chloe.
AARON: Are you sure?
CHLOE: Of course I am.
AARON: This is a big turnaround from the baby shower.
CHLOE: I told you it was a blip. I think you two just want to hog all of the happily ever after and it's not going to happen. Get your backside in there and stop worrying! Your sister getting engaged is a good thing.
Number 26 Backyard
Kyle finds Levi sitting outside with Yashvi's gift and wondered if she hated it, but Levi says she was too busy packing to open it. Levi adds that it sucks everyone's leaving, first Bea and now Yashvi, but Kyle says his favourite cousin's still around. Yashvi swings past for a chat, so Kyle heads inside to give them privacy. Yashvi apologises to Levi for her grumpy behaviour. She thought if she just ignored everyone then she wouldn't have to say goodbye, "and I don't have to face the reality of leaving." Levi nods his acceptance and tells her she almost missed out on the best farewell gift ever. Yashvi opens it and laughs when she finds a mug with a pretty terrible work ID photo of herself on it that says 'World's Best Partner'.
LEVI: You've been an amazing partner, Vi. And an even better mate. Trust yourself, okay? And don't let anyone in Sydney tell you otherwise.
The Waterhole
Leo finds Chloe sitting alone and wonders if she's celebrating or commiserating, admitting he only witnessed the question part of the proposal and not the answer. With a lack of joy in her voice, Chloe admits she said yes to Nicolette. Leo's confused - Chloe went there hoping to ask for some space with Nicolette and now she's engaged? He wonders how Chloe got talked into it. "My pregnant girlfriend figured out how to get down on one knee and propose," Chloe retorts.
CHLOE: She loves me, that means something.
LEO: Not if you don't feel the same way.
CHLOE: I want to settle down with Nic - eventually.
LEO: Exactly, you wanted to slow things down and getting engaged is not exactly doing that.
CHLOE: You're the one who said I wasn't spontaneous anymore, that I'd changed. What is more spontaneous than saying yes to love? And it's not like the wedding is going to be tomorrow. Our brothers are having a baby, that's the priority. By the time we walk down the aisle I'll be ready.
LEO: And who are you trying to convince now, Chlo? Me or you?
CHLOE: That's not fair.
LEO: You've made the wrong decision and you know it.
Harold's Café
Hendrix happily tells Karl and Susan that Ned offered him a job in the Café and he can start as soon as possible. The other cool thing is that it's part-time, so it won't mess with Year 13 either. The Kennedys are pleased for him, although Karl points out that the job offer for The 82 came first. But Hendrix reminds him he didn't want to mix work with home. "Does this mean you get a staff discount?" Karl can't help but ask, earning a whack on the arm from his wife. Susan then tells Hendrix he should let Chloe know about his new job.
Sonya's Nursery
Toadie thanks Yashvi for helping him out with something, but Yashvi's distracted because she can't get a hold of Mackenzie on the phone to apologise. There's no need for concern, though, as Mackenzie's waiting for them inside the nursery along with Dipi, Nell, Hugo, Ned and Levi for a surprise farewell party. Yashvi's touched that everyone's gone to the effort for her.
YASHVI: Doing it here, it's like Sonya can say goodbye too.
TOADIE: (moved by the sentiment) Aren't you beautiful.
They walk over to join everyone and Yashvi gets her chance to apologise to Mackenzie for her behaviour earlier.
YASHVI: You were just trying to help and I should have thanked you instead of taking my sads out on you. It's not how I should treat my sister.
MACKENZIE: I never thought I'd have one of those.
YASHVI: Well you're stuck with me. Sisters don't really go away, even ask Kirsha. Can you do me a favour?
MACKENZIE: Anything.
YASHVI: I need someone strong to stick by me so I don't become a blubbering mess.
MACKENZIE: Think of me as velcro.
Community Centre Exterior
Nicolette and Maya walk out arm-in-arm after class, talking about the proposal. Maya asks if Chloe said yes straight away. Nicolette says no, but she thinks Chloe was initially just in shock. They stroll away, calling out goodbye to Aaron and David. Overhearing Nicolette's conversation, Aaron promises David that Chloe said she was sure about the engagement.
DAVID: Then why did she hesitate? We didn't.
AARON: Yeah but we proposed to each other; no one was going to back down.
DAVID: With something this big you either know or you don't. If this is what Chloe wants, then I get it, sure. But my gut says something else.
AARON: I know her head's been all over the place lately.
DAVID: She was about to call time on their relationship and now they're getting married! Nic will be devastated if she calls things off now. And she's so close to giving birth.
AARON: Can you please not go there? Please.
DAVID: Aren't you worried?
AARON: Of course I'm worried. But David, it's just a proposal, it's not a wedding. So it's not going to happen tomorrow. Any potential issues are going to happen after the baby. And you saw how stoked Nic was. That's got to be good for our baby. Happy mum, happy bub.
DAVID: That's not all we care about.
AARON: No, of course not. But look, we didn't ask Chloe to get involved with Nicolette, did we?
DAVID: No and we didn't ask Leo to get involved with Chloe either. Do you think he knows?
AARON: I don't know. I think our only job here is to be there for Nic.
DAVID: Which means supporting the engagement.
Sonya's Nursery
Yashvi gets a text from Susan and tells Mackenzie and Hendrix that Suse is wishing her luck and to keep kicking goals. Vi then instructs Hendrix to keep an eye on Mackenzie for her. But when Hendrix says he got a job at Harold's, Yashvi retorts that now he's got two things to keep an eye on. "Harold's first, and then I'll find time for Mackenzie," Hendrix jokes, but it doesn't look as though that lands well with Mac. When she goes to get a drink, Ned wanders over to have a chat with Hendrix. Ned says that Hendrix has a great girlfriend helping him to land a job and asks if Hendrix let her know how appreciative he was. "Because you should," Ned adds, nodding towards a sad-looking Mackenzie. "Looks like she could use some cheering up. Yashvi's practically her sister and she's leaving today. Imagine how that feels." Hendrix thanks Ned for the advice.
Ned then goes over to talk to Kyle, who's made an appearance at the party. Kyle asks if Ned's said his goodbyes yet, but Ned says he's putting it off. Between Yashvi leaving and Amy knocking him back, his personal life has taken a bit of a hit. Ned then says that Amy's probably living it up in Cairns right now, but Kyle has some insider knowledge. He overheard Roxy on the phone with Amy last night and Amy kept asking questions about how Ned was going. This puts a smile on Ned's dial.
Lassiters Complex
Chloe runs into Hendrix and says she got Toadie's text about Yashvi's farewell and might head over soon. Hendrix then tells Chloe about the job he scored at the Café, which she's stoked about for him. Chloe says it's definitely an occasion to pop some bubbles; she might be doing the same thing tonight too. Hendrix asks what she's celebrating, stunned by the answer.
CHLOE: Nicolette and I are engaged.
HENDRIX: You what?
CHLOE: She proposed and I said yes.
HENDRIX: Why would you do that?
CHLOE: I thought you'd be happy for me. You've been team us for ages. You brought her to the vineyard so we could spend more time together.
HENDRIX: Yeah to try and keep Leo away from you. I didn't want you to do something dumb.
CHLOE: Why can't you support me?
HENDRIX: This is the same mistake you made with dad, rushing into things.
CHLOE: Well even if it is a mistake, it's my mistake to make.
HENDRIX: Yeah but you're not the only one that gets messed up. I know, I lived through it.
CHLOE: I've lived through your mistakes too, Hendrix, and they weren't pretty. At least I never got anyone kidnapped. I'm not taking advice from a teenager who has stuffed up basically everything in his own life.
HENDRIX: You know what Chloe, forget I said anything. Get married, live the dream, be happy - what do I know?
He walks off and Chloe looks upset.
Number 32
Aaron says hey to Leo before heading outside. David warily tells his brother that there's been a development between Chloe and Nicolette, but Leo says he already knows about the engagement. "I saw that set-up by the lake, it was predictable and mainstream," Leo says, nose in the air. Ignoring him, David says they're going to throw a congratulatory dinner for Chloe and Nic and invites him to attend, but Leo says he'll pass.
DAVID: It would be a nice way to show support, Leo.
LEO: No thanks.
DAVID: Whatever infatuation you have with Chloe, let it go and move on. She's made her choice.
LEO: So have I; I'm staying out of it.
Leo walks off and David looks irritated.
Sonya's Nursery
Yashvi has been coaching Nell and Hugo and asks them what they'll do if their dad watches too much wrestling ("Hide the remote," Nell replies), or if he doesn't give them a treat after dinner ("Find the secret stash!"). Yashvi grins and gives them high fives as Toadie says she's the worst big cousin in the world. Toadie and Yashvi have their goodbye chat and Toad reminds her of the time she set off all the fireworks in the backyard. Yashvi says she still feels sick thinking about what happened to Kirsha as a result.
YASHVI: I did some dodgy things in my time.
TOADIE: And that's why I'm so proud of you now. You were like me when you first came to Erinsborough. You were a ratbag with too much energy and not enough sense. You worked your way through it and you found your passion. Just like me.
YASHVI: A lawyer and a cop in the Rebecchi family.
TOADIE: Who would have thought, ay? You've done really well, Vi.
He gives her a hug and tells her not to be a stranger. It's then Ned's turn to have his private farewell chat with the guest of honour. He hands her a gift bag, admitting he wasn't sure what to say so he bought her something instead. Yashvi is amused when she finds a towel inside, asking if it's the same one from back in the day. Ned grins and says it's a new one for a new start. "I did get it all sweaty though, so it's exactly the same as the first one," he teases, making Yashvi laugh.
NED: Funny though, this towel was the start of us. Without it you wouldn't have found me in that sauna, saved me.
YASHVI: From a little sweat came big dreams.
NED: We'll still have them you know, just not together.
YASHVI: Promise me you won't give up on them even if you get rejected or fail. You deserve good things.
NED: So do you.
He taps her on the nose then hugs her. Dipi signals that they're running late for the airport, so Yashvi quickly gives Mackenzie a big hug too. After one last cuddle with Nell, Yashvi walks away with Dipi while all the partygoers wave her goodbye.
Number 30
Mackenzie finds Hendrix in the house holding a little cupcake as a gift, but Mac says she's not really hungry. Hendrix then shows her the "emergency sad pack" he put together for her consisting of an assortment of sugary goods, wondering what he'll do with it all now. He says he even brought the game console with him in case Mackenzie wanted to kill some zombies later to cheer herself up. Mac looks touched by the gesture and Hendrix apologises for being too focused on Chloe's life and not his girlfriend's.
HENDRIX: I'm done trying to fix Chloe's life. Technically she's not even family so why do I care?
MACKENZIE: It's okay that you do.
HENDRIX: You're more important, and now Vi's gone I want to be your rock. Whenever you need me.
Mackenzie smiles at him, grateful for his support.
Number 32
David and Aaron sit with Chloe and Nicolette at the table. David says it's a shame Jane and Clive couldn't join them, which Nicolette agrees with. Nic then says she can't believe how emotional she's been today, saying it must be the hormones. She then tells Chloe they should go wedding dress shopping together so they can coordinate their looks. Trying not to appear too freaked out, Chloe reminds Nicolette there's plenty of time for wedding planning down the track. "I guess I just can't wait to be your wife," Nicolette beams. "I can see it so clearly, the wedding, honeymoon, our own family." David and Aaron can see Chloe quickly retreating in on herself, so Aaron attempts to make some lighthearted conversation about wedding dresses with Nic. Needing to escape, Chloe bolts from her chair and says she'll go and buy them all dessert. David can't help but look troubled.
The Waterhole Exterior
Chloe finds Leo drinking wine outside. Leo can see how downhearted Chloe is and wordlessly slides his wine glass over for her to drink. She joins him at the table and appears as though she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.
The Waterhole
Kyle plays pool with Ned and Levi and calls them pathetic for being so mopey about Yashvi leaving. He reminds them she's only in Sydney, not Antarctica, and can always visit. Levi wants to know when Kyle became 'Mr Long Distance', and Kyle says since most of his exes moved overseas. "If Yashvi was here right now she'd call you both soft," Kyle adds, which Ned and Levi agree with. Fed up, Kyle says the next round of drinks is on Levi and tells him to do whatever he did last week to make it look like he'd won the lottery. While Levi's at the bar, Ned says he's been thinking about giving it another go with Amy. Kyle concedes that it should be fine now they don't work together, and they make each other smile. Little do they know, however, that Levi's putting his 'winning lotto' energy into practice by sending a text to Amy that says: Let's catch up when you get home.
