- Levi telling his family he wants to have more fun
- Toadie and Dipi catching Amy and Ned kissing
- Ned telling Yashvi he's looking for fun with Amy
- Ned assuring Amy that whatever happens next is her call
- Roxy springing Jesse going through files in Terese's office
- Roxy and Harlow discovering that Jesse is Julie Quill's son
Harold's Café Exterior
Roxy spies Jesse walking over and informs Harlow there's a "snake approaching at scum o'clock". But instead of telling Jesse his plan has been foiled, Harlow pretends like nothing's wrong. Jesse returns her hotel master key after 'borrowing' it and senses that she looks upset but Harlow says it's just a "work thing" and he needn't worry.
The Waterhole
Amy wants to grab some bags of marshmallows from Sheila for the Flamingo Bar fire pit, but Sheila isn't in the mood to share her dwindling stocks. Amy then strikes up a conversation with Levi at the bar, which turns flirty. Kyle and Ned emerge from the office and Kyle warns him to stop blatantly staring at Amy. Ned says she still likes him, she just doesn't want "complicated", but Kyle advises him to let it go.
Harold's Café Exterior
Harlow doesn't know what her next move should be with Jesse. She thought this whole time she was playing Paul, but Jesse was the one playing her for weeks. Roxy says Jesse has been playing everyone, and that it makes sense now why he was so keen to play world's best boyfriend to Harlow. Kyle and Levi stroll by and can see something has got the girls down, but Roxy says it's nothing "super cop and his sidekick" need to concern themselves with. Levi double checks that Harlow's cool, and when Harlow says it's boy troubles with Jesse, Levi says he's not worth the drama. The boys head off and the girls resume their dour mood.
HARLOW: Now even my cover story relationship looks like a failure. It's humiliating, Roxy.
ROXY: Well he made it look like I was the one who lost the film festival when he stole the pitch.
HARLOW: It's pretty typical from what I know of Tom and Shay Quill. If Julie's his mother then that means that they're his step brother and sister.
ROXY: They must live under the same rock.
HARLOW: But what's made them crawl out from under it all of a sudden? They've had years to come for Lassiters, why now?
Quill Hotel
Shay tells Jesse off for being late to their meeting, but he retorts that it's not that easy to find out the info she wants. Shay then says to just copy everything; she wants to know every detail about what Lassiters is planning. Jesse promises he's doing his best, but Shay says it's not enough.
SHAY: From what I can see, you're about as good for the business as your mother was. For the last five years I have been papering over the cracks, trying to give the appearance that I run a viable business. But this hotel has been going downhill all because of her actions.
JESSE: I know it's been tough.
SHAY: Tough? She killed two people and we're still dealing with the bad PR.
JESSE: Lassiters were victims too.
SHAY: Paul Robinson is no victim. It's time we got our market share back, and if you don't start helping instead of sponging, you'll be out.
Shay glares at a nervous looking Jesse before stalking away.
Harold's Café
Amy buys her marshmallows and bumps into Toadie on her way out. He tells her Yashvi will be home from hospital tomorrow and they're having a quiet welcome home brunch if she's interested. Amy says it's sweet she's trying to include him, but "Amy plus Dipi does not exactly equal Rancho Relaxo" and Yashvi doesn't need the drama right now. Toadie nods and goes about his business, but Amy only gets a few more steps before she runs into Ned. He offers to help her close the bar tonight and then maybe they could go out afterwards. Amy smiles but then reminds him about the ball being in her court, and she thinks that ball just got way too complicated. "I think we should move on," Amy tells a disappointed Ned.
Number 22
Roxy and Harlow have been doing more research on the Quills and have discovered the Quill Hotel website makes it look like the "Tom and Shay show". Harlow supposes Jesse mustn't have a proper role in the company. She also feels sick about telling Paul and Terese the truth - not only about Jesse, but the fact she's still with Brent too. Roxy figures that Paul will be way too angry about Jesse to even spend his energy on Brent right now. Harlow feels stupid that she encouraged Paul to mentor Jesse, but Roxy reminds her she had no idea Jesse was a bad guy. Just as the girls are working up the courage to spill the truth, Paul and Terese emerge from the back room with Jesse in tow. "Paul invited me to dinner," Jesse says with a grin. "Surprise!"
The Waterhole
Levi muses to Kyle that Harlow didn't seem too happy with Jesse earlier. He then wants to head over to the Flamingo Bar to keep the night going, except Kyle is more keen to go home and watch telly on the couch. Sheila spoils his plans when she says she's claimed the couch for herself and encourages Kyle to keep partying with his cousin. When Levi goes to the bar for some snacks, Kyle complains to his gran about being forced to go out. But Sheila says she hasn't seen Levi this happy in a long time and wants Kyle to join in on the fun while also keeping an eye on him.
Number 22
While Jesse chats with Paul and Terese in the lounge room, Harlow and Roxy try to keep their cool in the kitchen. Harlow's just about ready to blow Jesse's cover right now, but Roxy says they have to keep mum so they can covertly grill Jesse. Harlow doesn't know if she has it in her to stay quiet. "You're a Robinson, honey," Roxy reminds her. "Somewhere in there is a schemer." Paul tells Jesse that it's nice to see him making Harlow happy, labelling it "refreshing". Harlow takes offence to that, but Paul says he's just trying to make Jesse feel welcome.
Number 30
Toadie is using a watering can on the plants in the sunroom when Amy finds him. "Ten bucks if you fill that with vodka and water me," she pouts. Toadie asks what's wrong and finds out that Amy ended things with Ned. She knows she should have stopped things sooner, but it was nice having a spark with someone. Toadie feels bad for her but knows it's for the best, especially since she lives with Ned's ex.
AMY: Why do the ones I like come with a carousel of baggage?
TOADIE: Because life's not fair.
AMY: I know that I'm doing the right thing by taking the higher ground but why does the higher ground have to be so devoid of eligible men?
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Kyle's hoping that Levi doesn't want to turn this into an all-nighter, but Levi assures him that he's got an early PT session and won't keep him out too late. They see Ned and Levi asks if he's spoken to Harlow recently as she seemed quite down earlier about Jesse. It's news to Ned, though, and he says he'll let Harlow know Levi was checking in. Curious Kyle says that Levi's been talking about Harlow a lot today and asks if his cousin is interested in her. "Of course I am, mate, she's interesting," Levi says matter-of-factly.
Number 22
At the dinner table, Paul tells Jesse they should lock in his first mentoring session and settle on a meeting tomorrow morning. Harlow looks uncomfortable and Roxy starts in with the 'subtle' relentless questioning. She asks if Jesse grew up in Erinsborough (no), if he's an only child ("just me" he replies), if his parents are locals ("not close by, everyone's interstate") and if he lives in a share house ("just me in a small apartment," he says, starting to look a little unnerved). To get the attention off himself, Jesse says he should probably head home so he's ready for his mentoring meeting in the morning. Harlow sees him out, and while Terese comments to Paul on how well the dinner went, Harlow quietly bemoans to Roxy on how awkward things were. "But the worst pain is yet to come," Harlow adds. "I've still got to tell granddad and Terese."
Number 30
Amy brings Toadie a cocktail she's made for them called "the bigger person smash - because doing the right thing in life really punches you in the face sometimes". Choking down a sip of the strong concoction, Toadie wonders whether Amy should be drinking when she has to go back and close the bar later. But Amy checks in with the boss, aka herself, and labels it fine.
TOADIE: How's that Ned wound healing?
AMY: I'm about to buy a boyfriend pillow and shut up shop.
TOADIE: I think retirement's a bit over the top, yeah? What you need is a palate cleanser. Something light and easy just to get you going again.
AMY: Which we've established is not Ned.
TOADIE: Correct, yes, but you are due for a win.
AMY: What is all this 'due for a win' business? I thought you said that life wasn't fair?
TOADIE: Well yeah, but it doesn't mean that we can't hope for the best, right?
They clink their glasses and cheers to 'hoping for the best'.
Number 22
Paul finds Roxy and Harlow looking troubled and wonders what he's walked into. Harlow asks if Terese is coming in from the back room, but Paul says she's speaking with Imogen on the phone. Roxy says they should wait for Terese before they talk, but Paul becomes concerned and says he'd like to hear whatever it is right now. Harlow steels herself to deliver the bad news.
HARLOW: Jesse's actually Julie Quill's son. (Paul's face drops in shock) He's been feeding information to his family about Lassiters.
PAUL: Are you positive?
HARLOW: That's not all. We're not actually dating. It's just a cover up because I'm still with Brent.
PAUL: Right - I think you better walk me through this step by step.
ROXY: We were going to tell you about this at dinner but you invited Jesse.
HARLOW: I'm so stupid, I'm sorry. I did everything wrong and now it's just blown up in my face.
Before the conversation can continue, Terese walks in chuckling about Imogen wanting to dye her hair blonde. Paul says that Harlow and Roxy were just about to head to the Flamingo Bar, giving them a covert signal to leave as if he wants to tell Terese about Jesse himself.
The Waterhole
Ned asks Sheila for his usual takeaway dinner, but with extra garlic this time (as he's certainly not about to be kissing anyone anytime soon). Kyle has chased Ned from the Flamingo Bar to ask if he wanted to have an after work drink with him and Levi, but Ned's not in the mood. Ned admits to Kyle that Amy shut things down with him, and thanks Kyle for not saying 'I told you so'. "Nah, I never kick a man while he's down. Although there were plenty of red flags," Kyle replies, much to Ned's annoyance. Ned then sighs and says he'll just have to accept that Amy wants someone with less baggage than him.
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Harlow walks to the bar with Roxy and says that Paul probably needed space to tell Terese what's going on. "It would only remind her what happened to Josh," Roxy nods. Harlow still feels awful about her role in everything, but Roxy says that Paul was the one who kept pushing her and Jesse together. They find Amy, Levi and Kyle at the bar. Levi is quite merry and offers to buy them all a round of sangrias.
KYLE: Nah, the sangrias are a bit too sweet here.
HARLOW: I kind of like it sweet.
LEVI: Yeah, you're pretty sweet!
KYLE: Interesting.
LEVI: (embarrassed) No. No! I was just trying to be nice!
KYLE: No, please, tell the group more.
After that fun little awkward moment, Harlow and Roxy decide to turn around and head back home, and Kyle's not too far behind them, leaving Levi with Amy. "Way to clear a room," Amy teases. Levi sniffs his armpits, making sure that wasn't the reason, but Amy takes a quick sniff and says he actually smells quite good.
AMY: Must be a personality thing.
LEVI: (laughing) You know what? Yeah, I was being stupid. Just trying to have some fun.
AMY: Hey, it is never stupid to have fun.
LEVI: Yeah! I guess I was just looking for something a bit more-
AMY: Easy.
LEVI: Exactly.
AMY: Simple.
LEVI/AMY: Uncomplicated.
They grin at one another, happy to be on the same wavelength.
Number 22
Paul informs Harlow and Roxy that Terese has gone to bed but he didn't tell her about the Quills coming after Lassiters again. He sent the girls to the bar because he needed time to think and work out the best way to handle everything. "Right now we're going to protect Terese," Paul says. He wants them all to carry on as if they know nothing and believe Jesse's lies.
HARLOW: I don't think I can. I'm fuming at him and I don't like lying to Terese.
PAUL: Really? Didn't seem to have a problem when you were lying about you and Brent.
HARLOW: I did, actually. But with you pressuring me to break up with Brent and forcing Jesse onto me, I didn't really have much of a choice. And whatever you're about to say right now, please don't. This is all a bit too much for me right now.
Paul agrees to leave the matter for the time being. Harlow thanks him then double checks that he really wants her to keep putting on an act with Jesse. Paul nods and says he wants Harlow to keep Jesse away from the offices or anywhere else he might stumble across their business information.
PAUL: I need some time.
ROXY: For what?
PAUL: To figure out how we can use this to our advantage.
HARLOW: This doesn't have to be a battle, granddad.
PAUL: Harlow it already is. And if we expose Jesse now we gain nothing. The Quills already have the festival tender and they're going to get off scott free. I'm sorry but they deserve to pay.
The Flamingo Bar Exterior
Amy thanks Levi for helping her close the bar, then invites him to sit on the lounger with her while she toasts marshmallows at the fire pit. Levi says his keto diet won't allow him any sweets, but Amy says they're both for her anyway. They then have a teasing conversation about tasting marshmallows and how close Levi could get to one. Amy eats a marshmallow and then leans in towards him, asking if she's too close, but Levi smoothly says it's okay. "You know what the real test would be," Amy murmurs, before closing the gap between them and kissing him. Levi happily reciprocates.
