The Flamingo Bar
Amy has called an emergency meeting with David and Aaron about the longest workout competition. After what happened with Levi, she's extra stressed about making sure everything runs smoothly. Amy wants all of her staff to do a first aid course and hopes David can help her jump the queue on the hospital waiting list. David says he'll try and pull some strings for her. Amy's relief is short-lived when she gets a notification on her phone letting her know she's outstayed her welcome at the hotel.
Number 30
Toadie finds some enchiladas in the fridge and tells Mackenzie and Yashvi they're from Melanie.
YASHVI: You guys are moving pretty fast.
TOADIE: Yeah I'd say so, because enchiladas is normally a third anniversary gift.
YASHVI: No, I mean because you've given her a key.
TOADIE: Yeah, no, I haven't.
MACKENZIE: She must have gotten the spare from the office, let herself in and left you that.
TOADIE: (unconvincingly) Isn't that nice!
YASHVI: Yeah, or creepy.
Mackenzie says that if it makes Toadie uncomfortable he should let Melanie know, but Toadie says she's done it before. Yashvi reminds him that Melanie will just keep on doing it if he says nothing. Toadie doesn't want to ruminate on that too much so he heads off to work. Yashvi admits to Mackenzie that seeing Toadie loved-up with Melanie is a bit of a gut-punch after her breakup with Ned. Mackenzie offers to book them into a restaurant for dinner to take Vi's mind off things, but Yashvi just wants a chill night in. Mackenzie then gets a worrying text from Hendrix.
Number 28 Backyard
Hendrix admits to Mackenzie he feels stupid that he thought his dad was capable of change, but it's always going to be about money with him. Hendrix says his gut told him not to give his dad another chance and he should have listened to it. Mackenzie understands Hendrix is hurt but she doesn't think he should just completely write Pierce off. Hendrix disagrees - his life was back on track with Pierce gone and he wants it to stay that way. But Mackenzie points out that Hendrix wouldn't be thinking about it this much if deep down he didn't care.
MACKENZIE: I get where you're coming from, Hendrix. I mean, my relationship with my dad was a total rollercoaster. He made a ton of bad decisions but we got there in the end.
HENDRIX: Yeah but what you went through was completely different.
MACKENZIE: It was but I'm glad I gave him a chance to make things right. Look, you can be as angry as you want, vent to me all you like, I'm here. But after you've given it some time, you might feel differently about cutting him off.
HENDRIX: He showed me his priorities, why should I give him the time of day ever again?
Lassiters Complex
Amy spots Toadie on his way to work and has a little chit chat about how things are at home before segueing into the offer he made about a spare room a few weeks back. Smiling, Toadie puts his arm around Amy and says if she needs a place to stay then she can just ask. Amy pretends it's because she's feeling a bit lonely at the hotel, and that she'd love to be a true Ramsay Street-er ("like I practically was when you were there with Lance," she adds). Toadie soon figures out, though, that Paul's pulled the plug on her discount hotel stay and is now expecting full price. Toadie wonders if it might be a bit weird for Amy staying in the very same room she shared with Shane, but Amy insists she'd be okay.
TOADIE: Well, I would love to have you there. And I'm sure Mackenzie would too. But Vi is having a bit of a hard time going through all the stuff with Ned, the breakup.
AMY: Sure. Heard you loud and clear. (Smiling) It's gonna be great!
Over by the hotel, Pierce finds Chloe and asks if he could have a chat about Hendrix with her. He fills her in about what happened when Hendrix learnt he was in town to sell the vineyard, and that he stupidly gave his son the impression that was the only reason he was back. Chloe tells him he needs to try harder to convince Hendrix that he's a priority. But first he should give Hendrix the chance to calm down, then speak to him adult to adult. Emerging from Harold's with David and Aaron behind her, Nicolette sees Chloe and Pierce smiling together and makes a beeline for her girlfriend. Wrapping her arm around Chloe, Nicolette says she doesn't have long for her lunch break so they should get a move on. Pierce looks concerned that Nicolette just hustled Chloe away from their conversation.
Number 28 Backyard
When Chloe appears, Hendrix figures that Pierce sent her in to bat for him. Chloe says she's there on her own accord, but she has spoken with Pierce and he's upset about what happened. Hendrix says he brought it on himself, and Chloe agrees that Pierce's foot did enter his mouth, but Hendrix should also know the truth.
CHLOE: The winery deal was just the kick to get him down here. Reconnecting with you is his number one priority.
HENDRIX: Why are you sticking up for him after everything he did to you?
CHLOE: Because I'm the one that told him to cut you off when he went to Sydney.
Hendrix and Mackenzie are quite shocked to hear this. Hendrix wants to know why, and Chloe says without change, they would have just ended up back where they started; "you relying on handouts and Pierce thinking that was Parenting 101." Mackenzie tells Hendrix that there's nothing wrong with changing things up. Chloe adds that he should talk to his dad again and see how it goes, and Mackenzie offers to be a buffer if Hendrix needs it.
Number 32
Aaron is surprised when Pierce stops by for a visit, but Pierce is worried about Chloe and wants to know if she's okay. Aaron knows this has everything to do with Nicolette, and Pierce admits he's trying to get his head around the fact that they're even together. Pierce wonders what Aaron thinks of Chloe and Nicolette's relationship since he knows them better than anyone else.
PIERCE: I'm honestly worried, Aaron. I wasn't going to get involved when I thought Chloe was happy but now I'm not so sure. I know that's pretty rich coming from me after everything that's happened, but I still care about her.
AARON: Okay, look, to be honest I had my doubts at first too. But then I realised that I had nothing to worry about. Pierce, they are great for each other. They support each other, they work through troubles together.
PIERCE: Yeah but they haven't been through anything major yet. They wouldn't have lasted if that were the case.
AARON: No, actually, you're wrong. Look, everyone knows so I guess it doesn't matter: Chloe found out that Nicolette planted the necklace for her to find.
PIERCE: The one I gave Dipi?
AARON: Yes.
PIERCE: Nicolette set that up? So she exposes that whole affair...
AARON: (uncomfortable) Maybe I shouldn't have said anything.
But Pierce wants to know how Chloe reacted when she found out. Aaron admits Chloe was upset and couldn't be around Nicolette for a while, but they worked through it. Pierce doesn't understand how they could even work through something like that, but Aaron says that's just what good couples do.
AARON: When mum passed, Nicolette was amazing. She didn't leave Chloe's side. And that's when they got together. And look at them now, they're stronger than ever. Despite everything, I really do think they are a great couple.
Pierce doesn't look as though he shares the same view.
Number 30
Toadie tells Yashvi about the tentative plans for Amy to possibly move in, but he knows there's a lot of history there with her and he won't say yes unless his niece is okay with it. Yashvi says she's okay but Dipi probably won't be. Amy suddenly lets herself in, suitcase in tow, with a cheery "howdy housemates!" She's stoked to be moving in to the actual House of Trouser, but Toadie is quite shocked to see her there. He tells Amy that he said he needed to discuss it with Yashvi and Mackenzie first, but Amy frowns and says no, he told her Mackenzie would be fine and that she should be mindful of Yashvi. Amy says she'll think of a stack of activities to cheer Yashvi up, but Yashvi retorts that she's not really in that headspace right now. Realising there's been a breakdown in communication, Toadie tells Yashvi she doesn't have to reach a decision right away, but Yashvi gives in and welcomes Amy to the household.
Harold's Café
Nicolette sees Pierce walk in and slyly says that she heard things with Hendrix aren't too good. But Pierce isn't here to muck around and immediately informs her that Aaron told him about the necklace.
PIERCE: It just proves everything I've always thought about you, you've got zero morals.
NICOLETTE: If I remember correctly, you were the one in bed with another woman.
Nicolette says she was just looking out for Chloe, but Pierce scoffs that she's only interested in herself. Nicolette replies that he's just jealous that her relationship with Chloe is deeper and more honest than his ever was.
PIERCE: Oh my god you're delusional.
NICOLETTE: Yeah, and you're jealous.
PIERCE: You know, I can just imagine how scared and vulnerable Chloe was when her mother died. She was in no state to start a relationship, but that didn't stop you did it. You'll never admit this out loud, but you know deep down you're only in a relationship with her because of how scared, vulnerable and fragile she was at the time. And pretty soon Chloe will realise that too.
Nicolette is rattled but manages to inform Pierce that unless he's planning on ordering something, he can leave.
Number 30
Yashvi doesn't understand why Amy can't afford to live at the hotel, but she can run out to buy them new kitchen utensils. Toadie points out that it'll at least buy the two of them some time to have a private chat. He apologises for the way everything turned out, and that he never meant to bulldoze Yashvi into making a decision on the spot. Yashvi says it was a bit of an ambush, but she probably would've said yes anyway. Toadie reminds her that Amy did cause some issues between her parents, but Yashvi says they put it behind them. The only thing Yashvi's worried about is letting Dipi know about their new housemate. Mackenzie arrives home and it's her turn to hear the fun news from Toadie, but Mackenzie wonders if it's anything to do with the "House of Blouser" group chat Amy just added her to.
MACKENZIE: So far it's all happy emojis and puppy gifs.
YASHVI: Yes, she's added me too. And you.
TOADIE: Oh. Oh, that's a lot of emojis.
MACKENZIE: Is that another one incoming?
TOADIE: Uh, no that's from Melanie just letting me know how much she misses me.
YASHVI: Okay, so where did we decide we were on the nice versus creepy scale?
TOADIE: Yeah, not talking about that.
Changing the subject, Toadie informs Mackenzie that Amy is moving in, which kind of happened by accident.
MACKENZIE: How does someone move in by accident?
YASHVI: Have you met Amy?
TOADIE: It's happening - do you think we could make it work?
MACKENZIE: (hearing a rapid succession of chat messages coming through) I guess we'll have to.
YASHVI: (incredulous) Who types that fast?
MACKENZIE: She's calling for suggestions of group bonding activities. 'Must be fun and/or crazy'.
YASHVI: 'Everybody send five ideas'. This is a lot.
MACKENZIE: Yeah, I don't know Amy enough to want to spend this much time with her.
TOADIE: She's just excited, she'll calm down.
YASHVI: Noooo! I'm not in the right headspace to deal with this!
Toadie promises he'll speak with Amy and let her know she's coming on a bit too strong.
Harold's Café
Nicolette has told Jane about her run in with Pierce. Jane asks if she's angry with Aaron for spilling about the necklace, or at Pierce for what he said. Nicolette wants to know what her mum's getting at, so Jane says that Nicolette has had concerns that she may have rushed things with Chloe. Evading the topic, Nicolette says Jane has dirt on her pants. Jane admits that she went to the nursery on her lunch break to try and find a better replacement for Herbert since her peace lily didn't do the trick. But she knows Nicolette is trying to change the subject, and turns the conversation back on her.
JANE: I don't think you need to worry about the necklace situation. It was already out in the open so what harm could it do?
NICOLETTE: You are missing the point, mum. I need to know why Aaron threw me under the bus.
JANE: Or you could focus on the real issue, which is why what Pierce said has got you so rattled.
NICOLETTE: Okay mum, read my lips. I never cared what that man had to say about me, so why would I start caring now? I am going to give Aaron a piece of my mind though.
Number 28
Hendrix has called his dad over to see him and Mackenzie is there to offer support. Pierce apologises for giving Hendrix the wrong idea earlier. He knows he has to earn Hendrix's trust back and he'd be grateful for another chance. Pierce then says he'd love a proper catch up with both Hendrix and Mackenzie now they're together. Mackenzie smiles and says she bets he didn't see this coming. Pierce says he didn't but he's really happy for them. Hendrix tells his dad he can't do "happy small talk", but keeping him at a distance doesn't really work when he's around all the time.
HENDRIX: Everything that's gone down since you've arrived has been a lot to deal with.
PIERCE: Yeah I totally agree.
HENDRIX: So sell your vineyard, do your business. And then when you're done maybe we can talk.
PIERCE: Yeah, all right, if that's what you want.
HENDRIX: It is.
Number 30
Toadie is having the chat with Amy about toning her enthusiasm down a notch or twenty, but Amy honestly thought she had been. He says they're all just not as outgoing as she is, so Amy promises she'll be chill. But as soon as Yashvi walks in, Amy pounces and asks if she wants to head to the Flamingo Bar for "low-key" drinks. Not so surprisingly, Yashvi isn't all that keen on going somewhere her ex-boyfriend works. But Amy thinks it's the perfect opportunity to just rip the bandaid off and get the first after-breakup interaction done and dusted. Yashvi's still not keen, but Amy's already decided they're going and heads off to get changed. Yashvi asks Toadie if Amy's always going to be like this, so Toadie says he'll have another chat with her. But before he can, he hears beeping outside and remembers he's got salsa dancing lessons and a sausage-making course with Melanie. Sighing, Yashvi gives in and says she'll suck it up and head out with Amy.
Number 24/Number 32
Pierce calls by to thank Chloe for her advice about Hendrix. They're not completely reconciled but they're heading in a better direction. Not wanting to sugarcoat things, Chloe admits Pierce will have his work cut out for him. Pierce knows but says it'll be worth it.
Over at Number 32, Nicolette finds Aaron and David in the kitchen and demands to know what Aaron was thinking by telling Pierce about the necklace. Aaron says it just came up in conversation and he didn't think it mattered because everyone already knew. Nicolette points out that's not his choice to make, especially since Pierce stopped by the Café just to undermine her relationship with Chloe. Aaron says he didn't mean to cause any harm, but David replies that it probably would have been better for Aaron to keep his mouth shut.
Chloe says it's sad Pierce is selling the vineyard. Pierce agrees it's bittersweet - it was his first business. But Chloe was thinking more of the fact that they got married there. "Yeah, it's a very special place," Pierce smiles. "But I've got to focus on the future." Chloe understands, but still can't help feeling sentimental. Pierce walks over to the lounge room shelves and wonders if the wedding album still lives where it used to. Chloe says it does as she never ended up moving it.
Nicolette says Pierce will find any chance to pick apart her relationship. David knows they have their differences, but Nicolette might be underestimating Pierce. "No, I think you underestimate what a creep he is!" Nic shoots back. "He will do anything to tear us apart." Aaron apologises again for dropping her in it, but he really doesn't think she has any cause for concern. David thinks Pierce was probably just venting, and Aaron says it shouldn't matter anyway because Pierce isn't part of hers or Chloe's lives anymore.
Chloe sits next to Pierce on the couch as they flick through the wedding album. She says it was a beautiful day and comments on how happy they look in the photos. Pierce notes how happy Hendrix looked too, when he decided to come of course. Chloe says that Pierce got through to him in the end. "Always with your help," Pierce says. Chloe reminisces about them being a good team, but Pierce says they still are. They look at a photo of Chloe and Fay from the smaller ceremony they had in Adelaide. Chloe gets a bit of a wobbly lip when Pierce comments on how happy Fay was.
PIERCE: We really were happy, weren't we. Despite all the ups and downs.
CHLOE: We were. Both of those days were magical. So full of hope for our family. For each other.
They share a nostalgia-fuelled look with each other.
