No 32
Aaron and Chloe continue their conversation about her feelings for Nicolette. Aaron wonders if Chloe's maybe confusing romantic feelings with Nicolette being supportive over Fay.
CHLOE: I dunno. Maybe.
AARON: Well, have you spoken to her about it? Like, does she feel the same way?
CHLOE: No, but we haven't really talked about it. I mean, she didn't say she did, when I...
AARON: What?
CHLOE: When I asked her to sleep with me.
AARON: Oh, wow. When?
CHLOE: After Mum died. She said no.
AARON: Okay, so she does know how you feel.
CHLOE: No, but it was different then. I didn't realise how much I like her. I feel it more every time I'm with her. Maybe I should just tell her.
AARON: No, look, I don't know about that, Chlo. Cos if you do, and then it starts a rift between you guys, it's...
CHLOE: Yeah. Things were pretty awkward when she came clean about being in love with me.
AARON: You don't want a repeat of that. And even if she does feel the same way, do you really want to be starting something? You need to ride this out, okay? If you spill your guts now, you will regret it.
At this point Nicolette appears with a packing box, in preparation for moving across the road, bringing the conversation to a close.
No 26
In the garden, Sheila is talking to Gary the Pigeon.
SHEILA: Time flies faster than you, Gary. But I'm looking forward to thinking about the good times. Not that we don't still have them.
GARY THE PIGEON: ...
SHEILA: Don't just ignore me. I treasure every moment with you.
Kyle and Roxy turn up. Kyle is confident that Gary would give the anniversary memorial they're holding at the tram for him tomorrow 'the thumbs up'.
KYLE: Do pigeons even have thumbs?
Kyle asks Roxy if she'll be coming to Gary's memorial. She wants to, but admits she's worried about Harlow, who will also be marking a year since the loss of her mum, Prue, and is currently struggling.
ROXY: Prue wasn't much of a parent to her, but it's still her mum.
KYLE: Babe, if you want to spend the day with Harlow, it's all good.
ROXY: I do. But I want to be here for you, too. Unless... we invite Harlow along, and we can remember Gary and Prue together? I know that Gary and Prue's relationship was complicated, but they did love each other.
KYLE: I guess. Dad looked out for Harlow. I think he'd be pretty happy knowing we'd look after her on such a tough day.
Sheila asks Gary the Pigeon what he thinks, and everyone infers from him cooing and walking onto Sheila's hand that he is keen on the idea...
Ramsay Street
David and Brent get out of the car; they've been to drop Emmett back off at Auntie Linda's. David remarks that Brent seems quiet, and guesses it's because Emmett didn't want to go home. We learn that Auntie Linda is coming round for a meeting tomorrow to discuss Emmett's options.
DAVID: Aaron and I will do everything we can to convince her that moving back here is what's best for Emmett. And then we can take that to the agency.
Meanwhile, Brent realises he's lost the skull ring, and starts searching his bag and the car frantically for it. Brent's cagey about what he's lost, saying it's 'something a friend gave me'; when David offers to help look, he says it's fine. David asks where he last had it, and Brent remembers he took 'it' to Harlow's place in his bag. David tells him to check his room first.
No 22
We cut to the ring, which is lying under the couch as Terese vacuums perilously close to it - but doesn't find it, or suck it up. Harlow comes downstairs, and Terese broaches the topic of what she'd like to do tomorrow to remember her mum.
HARLOW: I don't have much planned. I'll probably have a good cry in the morning, and then I'll see Brent.
TERESE: Well, I'm glad he's there for you. Just remember that Paul and I will always be here for you, too.
HARLOW: I know. Thank you.
Terese continues vacuuming, as Kyle and Roxy arrive. They head into the kitchen where they begin to tell Harlow about their idea to combine the memorial for Gary with one for Prue.
No 32
In the garden, David and Aaron discuss Chloe's feelings for Nicolette, which Aaron thinks is 'a nightmare waiting to happen'. David thinks it's just Chloe's grief talking, and that she'll realise what's driving it eventually.
AARON: But what if she can't help herself? You know how impulsive Chloe can be. And Nic's carrying our baby - like, that's complicated enough as it is.
DAVID: Boo, calm down. Even if this is real for Chloe, we both know Nicolette's moved on.
AARON: Well, that's only because she thought Chloe wasn't interested in her. What if she changes her mind? What if they decide to do something, they have a disagreement, they split up, then they can't be in the same room as each other, and -
DAVID: You're getting way ahead of yourself.
AARON: Because I'm worried about them!
David says Aaron made the right call in telling Chloe to step back, but Aaron's not convinced she will heed his advice. David says that for now, they need to focus on their meeting with Auntie Linda tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Brent is searching the sunroom for the lost ring, and is in a bad mood about it. David still doesn't know what it is he's lost, and asks if he's checked at Harlow's yet. Brent simply strops past them without answering.
No 24
Nicolette has finished unpacking her things.
CHLOE: Welcome to Number 24 - again!
Referring to the house move to make way for Emmett, Chloe remarks on how the world should be revolving around Nicolette as she's pregnant; instead, she's 'just happy doing what makes other people happy'.
NICOLETTE: That's me, Saint Nicolette!
CHLOE: It's true!
NICOLETTE: Well, change is as good as a tropical island holiday with a poolside bar. Or in my pregnant case, a cup of tea.
CHLOE: I'll drink to that.
They raise a tea-mug toast. Chloe looks a bit besotted.
No 22
Brent surreptitiously searches the sofa for the ring, while Harlow fetches drinks for them. She notices that he seems restless, but he insists he's fine.
HARLOW: Hey, I was just wondering what you were doing tomorrow? (...) Kyle's having this memorial thing for his dad, and Roxy thought it'd be nice to honour Mum too, like a joint thing.
BRENT: Right.
HARLOW: It'll be super low-key, so I think I'll be able to handle it. But it'd be nice to be around the people that are most important to me.
BRENT: Yeah. Absolutely.
HARLOW: So, I'd really love it if you came. The whole family is gonna be there. It'd mean a lot to me.
BRENT: Is Paul going? And Ned, too?
Harlow explains yes, but they're not in this episode, so will be there later on.
BRENT: Look, I'd really like to. It's just... Emm's supposed to be coming over with Linda tomorrow, and I totally forgot about it.
HARLOW: Oh.
BRENT: Look, I've got to do the right thing and hang out with him.
HARLOW: No, of course. It's fine.
BRENT: I'm really sorry, Harlow.
HARLOW: Don't be. Family comes first.
No 32
The next day, Auntie Linda arrives with Emmett, and is awkwardly greeted by David and Aaron. David sends Emmett to see Brent in his room, while Linda joins them in the seating area.
LINDA: Emmett's been finding this whole situation incredibly stressful.
AARON: Yeah. But, look, I think we can all agree that we all want what's best for him, and that's why you're here.
DAVID: And hopefully we can come to an agreement that everyone's happy with, and gives the agency an easy option.
LINDA: Yeah, I'd like that, too.
DAVID: I'm sure Emmett's made it pretty clear he's keen to stay in Australia.
AARON: Yeah. And, I mean, we can offer him a stable and caring home. He knows the place; he's with his brother, which we believe is in his best interests.
LINDA: Well, that's where we differ. Emmett's had so much upheaval in his life.
AARON: Yeah, well, moving him to New Zealand is quite a bit of upheaval.
LINDA: It's where I'll be living and working, and it's where he'll have family.
AARON: But I mean, he's still upset about his mum disappearing.
LINDA: And if he stays here, he'll keep waiting and hoping for Jenna to come back. A new life in a new country will give him the space he needs to move on.
AARON: See, we can offer him that space. And as I said before, we believe that he is happiest when he's with his brother.
Emmett and Brent have appeared at the door, unseen by the others.
LINDA: Brent's nothing but trouble.
AARON: Well, he's making some positive changes.
LINDA: It won't last. It never does. Sorry, but if you're hoping that's a strong point with the agency, I think you might be disappointed.
Linda then notices Brent, and says hello. He coldly greets her in return, and Aaron then ushers her outside for coffee.
DAVID: Sorry if you heard all that.
BRENT: It's whatever. Besides, there's something I need to go and do.
DAVID: What, now?
BRENT: Yeah. It's important.
DAVID: No, *this* is important. We have to convince your aunt that Emmett's life is better off here, so she doesn't give the agency another option. That means you have to stay here, and step up.
Brent backs down, and reassures Emmett that he'll stick around.
The 82
Harlow, Terese, Kyle and Sheila are gathered at the tram for Gary and Prue's memorial. There are framed photos of the two deceased on a table, with some flowers. Harlow thanks Sheila for including her.
HARLOW: I know you and Mum didn't really see eye-to-eye.
SHEILA (awkward): Uh, Prue was a... force of nature! An absolute one-off!
HARLOW: She definitely was. I'm really glad she had Gary to keep her grounded. Even if it was for a little while.
As Harlow moves away, Kyle, who has been listening to this, comes to join Sheila.
KYLE: You know, you don't have to try that hard!
SHEILA: Oh, I just knew that I had to say something positive about Prue. And I did, but now I've used up everything I had! I'm not sure this was a great idea, cos I'm gonna have to think of a whole lot of other nice things to say.
KYLE: Gran, you're overthinking it. Just try to relax. You've got this.
Meanwhile, Roxy asks Harlow when her 'lover, B-Boy' is getting here.
HARLOW: Please don't call him that.
Harlow explains to Roxy and Terese that Brent can't make it.
TERESE: Well, you can lean on us instead today.
ROXY: All day, every day.
No 24
Chloe is looking fondly at the photo of her and Nicolette on Fay's photoboard, when Nic herself comes in. She asks if Chloe recalls the chocolates they pigged out on from Lassiter's excess stock.
CHLOE: Yes. I salivate like Pavlov's dog every time I think about it!
NICOLETTE: Well, start salivating, then.
She's brought some of the same chocolates, but which have since been rebranded with environmental packaging.
NICOLETTE: So, it's ethical *and* delicious.
When Nic says she can have all the Belgian truffles, Chloe gets emotional, recalling that Nic gave them all to her last time.
CHLOE: You knew exactly what I need back then.
NICOLETTE: You needed space, and to escape for a little while. Kind of like what you need now. So, for the short term that I'm living here, it's all about the fun, and the trashy TV, and the chocolates. And if you want to cry, I'm down for that, too.
CHLOE: Thank you.
Chloe looks adoringly at Nicolette as she turns on the TV.
No 32
In the kitchen, David thanks Brent for sticking around and making an effort with Linda.
BRENT: I can't see it helping out. She never changes her mind when she's got something stuck in her head.
DAVID: We won't give up, okay? I promise.
David tells Brent he can go now, then joins Emmett, Aaron and Linda in the seating area.
EMMETT: What about what *I* want? I mean, you can't just make me move to New Zealand.
LINDA: The agency has to decide what's best for you, and I'm your legal guardian.
EMMETT: I don't care. I mean, you could say I can live here, but you won't.
DAVID: Linda, I know you think you're acting in Emmett's best interest, but surely you think he's old enough to have a say in the direction of his future?
LINDA: He's a teenager.
AARON: Yeah, he's a teenager who knows what he wants.
LINDA: Well, it's not about what he wants. It's about what he needs.
EMMETT: I already miss Mum. Now I'm never going to see Brent again.
AARON: Linda, please -
LINDA: I was happy to hear you have a baby on the way. But Emmett said the mother had to move out so he could stay here?
DAVID: Nicolette is our surrogate. Having our own child won't affect the way that we care for Emmett.
LINDA: How can it not? A newborn will take all your time and energy.
AARON: We're ready for that.
LINDA: And maybe you are. But I can't risk what's best for Emmett on maybes. Look, I promised your mother I'd do the right thing by you. And that means living with me.
Nobody looks happy.
No 22
Brent has a key to the front door, and lets himself in. Calling out to make sure no-one's in the house, he sets about searching under furniture for the missing ring. He soon finds it under the sofa, much to his relief. But then someone else walks through the front door. Brent looks scared.
MAN: Mate! You didn't make it easy to track you down!
BRENT: Holden...
The 82
Harlow, Terese, Kyle, Sheila and Roxy are still the memorial. Kyle is recalling a time when he and Sheila got 'a bit tiddly' testing Aussie gins here with Gary.
SHEILA: Absolutely sozzled, I remember.
KYLE: A few gins in, Dad decided we should come up with a theme tune for the tram. You know, kind of like a footie club song.
SHEILA: Yeah, and we really threw ourselves into it. But he didn't like our lyrics, so he thought he'd go off and write some himself.
KYLE: He scribbled away for an hour before he came screaming back in - 'I've got it!' He cleared his throat, and he sang...
SHEILA and KYLE (singing): The 82, where the food is fine, The 82 is the place to dine!
KYLE: A whole hour, and that's all he could come up with.
Harlow is looking a bit sombre.
KYLE: I know Prue loved to sing along, too. Dad told me, when he went to London to rescue her from the Restoration Order - they had to keep a low profile, but he said Prue couldn't help herself, and took him out on a big night in Covent Garden.
HARLOW: Mistress Minerva's Piano Bar?
KYLE: Yeah, that's the one!
HARLOW: Mum and I used to have a flat round there, actually. Owned by one of her gurus. She used to love being in the thick of it. So did I, if I'm honest.
A pigeon lands on the table, next to the photos of Prue and Gary.
ROXY: Sheila, is that Gary?
SHEILA: No, love, that's not him. Shame.
HARLOW: Life with Mum was so crazy, but... thinking about London, I had so many good memories.
TERESE: Well, there's no reason you can't go back to visit. We'd be happy to pay for it. You don't have your mum anymore, but you still have your memories.
Harlow decides she could go next week, as she has a mid-semester break.
HARLOW: I can even visit Aunt Harriet.
Roxy wonders what Brent will do without her. She says Brent will understand.
HARLOW: I've got to do this for myself.
A second pigeon lands on the table, next to the first.
SHEILA: It's Gary! He has come to his own memorial!
ROXY: Looks like he's brought a friend, too.
SHEILA: Yeah... Prue? Prue, is that you? She landed when Harlow was talking about her mum. And then Gary flew in and found her, just like he did when he flew to London to find her! I don't believe it.
ROXY: They found each other. Again.
KYLE: Just like Dad would've wanted.
HARLOW: And Mum.
Harold's Café
David, Aaron and Emmett come in. Aaron assures Emmett they'll tell the agency that he wants to stay with them, but Emmett's worried the agency will side with Linda as his legal guardian. David tells him not to stress, and to order some food while they grab a table outside.
Chloe and Nicolette come in, as David and Aaron are going out. The boys admit the meeting with Linda didn't go great, but say they'll do all they can to keep Emmett with them.
While Nicolette goes to the counter, Aaron asks Chloe if anything's changed since the chat about her feelings for Nic. Chloe's mildly annoyed that Aaron has told David all about it, but David assures her he's 'a vault'.
CHLOE: Unlike my brother!
But she says she'll take Aaron's advice and not tell Nicolette how she feels. Aaron suggests it might be easier if Nic move out and live elsewhere, but Chloe says she doesn't want to put her through that, and it's only short-term.
CHLOE: I won't let it get complicated.
AARON: It already is.
CHLOE: Then I'll uncomplicate it.
No 22
Holden tells Brent that his girlfriend is 'cute', and that he didn't realise she lived here with Roxy.
BRENT: You know, you breaking into my place and trashing the university mural was one thing. But attacking Roxy?
HOLDEN: I'll stop when you put the ring back on your finger and show some loyalty.
BRENT: What do you want from me?
HOLDEN: I need your help.
BRENT: I'm off the streets, alright? I'm not going back.
HOLDEN: I'm not asking you to. You've got a house now, which means you've got a place to hide stuff.
BRENT: No. No, I can't do that.
HOLDEN: Well, I'm not going anywhere until you do.
BRENT: Look, this isn't about me. My brother wants to move in with me, and I can't do anything that's gonna stuff that up for him. Our mum shot through. Emmett needs me.
HOLDEN: Alright. I'll leave you and your new friends alone.
BRENT: Thank you.
HOLDEN: As long as you do me one last favour.
Lassiter's Complex
David and Aaron are discussing Chloe's feelings for Nicolette. David tells Aaron not to worry about it, as it might turn into nothing.
AARON: I just have this feeling that this is all going to blow up. I mean, it'd make me feel a lot better if Nic wasn't actually living with Chloe.
Emmett emerges, overhearing this.
EMMETT: I didn't mean to get Nicolette kicked out.
AARON: Hey, this isn't your fault, mate. We were talking about something else. There's other stuff going on.
DAVID: It's got nothing to do with you.
EMMETT: Nic's still having your baby. I might as well just do what Auntie Linda wants, and go to New Zealand.
AARON: No, that's not what we want.
DAVID: No, absolutely not!
EMMETT: Well, it's probably gonna happen anyway, so I might as well just suck it up and get it over with.
AARON: Emm, listen - you have a right to choose where and how you want to live, okay? And I'm gonna do everything I can in my power to make sure you get what you need. And David will, too. You are our priority here, okay?
Emmett still looks worried.
No 22
Holden shows Brent a picture of an expensive motorbike on his phone, which Holden has stolen. He's lined up a buyer, but he needs a place to hide the bike while the buyer gets the cash together. Holden wants Brent to hide it in the Doug-Out in David and Aaron's garden.
BRENT: Dude, I've got two cops as neighbours. Right, they're already asking questions about the break-in, and what you did to Roxy.
HOLDEN: Mm-hm. We can argue about this all day, or you can do this one job, and I'm gone. I swear.
BRENT (sighs): Fine. Okay.
Holden gives Brent the keys to the bike, and promises to text him its location so he can pick it up. The front door begins to open, and Holden rushes out the back. Harlow's surprised to see Brent standing in the house.
HARLOW: Hey. What's going on?
Brent looks worried.
