The Flame Tree
Clive and Jane scramble to let Sheila know they never intended for her to find out about them this way. Utterly shocked, Sheila asks them how long they've been together for and Jane admits it's been since the Kennedy's Christmas party. Jane and Clive keep apologising, but Sheila tells them to shut up before making a hasty exit.
Number 32
Aaron shows David the gingerbread men Nicolette baked for them and asks if he wants to take some for a snack. But David isn't too enthused and says he's already packed food for work. Aaron presses on, letting David know that Nicolette wanted to have lunch with them today, but David says he can't determine what time his break will be.
AARON: I'm starting to feel like you are going out of your way to avoid her.
DAVID: What's that supposed to mean?
AARON: It means you're being stubborn. You're determined to stay angry, but I know you're not like that naturally. I mean, come on, you were nice to her last night!
DAVID: When?
AARON: When you told her to rest.
DAVID: I was being polite. That doesn't mean I've forgiven her.
The Waterhole
Kyle, Levi and Bea are eating breakfast at the counter while Roxy works. Kyle and Levi trade barbs about their choice of breakfast food and Bea comments that Kyle appears a lot better than he did yesterday. Kyle says it's down to a good night's sleep and seeing his favourite people. Roxy smiles at this but Levi teases her, saying that Kyle meant him.
KYLE: I don't remember you sending me any videos dressed as a hot nun while I was away.
LEVI: And you never will.
KYLE: Good.
ROXY: I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you.
KYLE: Well it worked, and it meant a lot. And I'm going to show you just how much, but you'll have to wait and see.
When Kyle heads to the bathroom, Bea and Levi tease Roxy about how she's "in for a spoiling". Roxy grins and says Kyle stopped at Duty Free - so far she's only got a giant Toblerone, but she's expecting something more as the Duty Free bag he was carrying was quite full. She then asks if Bea and Levi have shopped for one another yet, and comments on how much of a big deal a couple's first Christmas can be. Bea and Levi try not to look too freaked out.
Clive's Car
Jane and Clive are mortified at how hurt Sheila was, and Jane says she feels like such a traitor. They both agree that was the absolute worst way she could have found out about them. Clive knows their plan to hold off on telling her made sense at the time, but he also knows all Sheila will focus on is that they lied to her. Jane thinks she should call Sheila so they can talk things through, but Clive advises her to just let Sheila cool down first. Jane wonders what they do now and agrees with Clive that they probably shouldn't keep their mini-holiday plans.
Harold's Café
Aaron finds Nicolette sitting at a table by herself, whiling away the minutes until a customer walks in. She offers to make him coffee (rueing the fact she can't have any), but Aaron's there to thank her for the gingerbread men. Nicolette wonders if David liked them too, looking a little disappointed when Aaron admits he hasn't tried them yet. He also lets her know David can't make it for lunch, but Nic says she'll have to pike anyway as Dipi has her holding down the fort while she runs errands.
AARON: Listen, please don't give up on David. He just needs more time.
NICOLETTE: I honestly thought he was thawing a bit last night.
AARON: Yeah, so did I. But I promise you he is a kind person, you just need to earn back his trust.
NICOLETTE: I'm really trying.
AARON: I know, and I can see everything you're doing. Like the volunteer work, and everything at home, and you're working here to pay back Ricardo. It's amazing. And I promise you David will notice how much effort you're going to.
Nicolette doesn't look entirely convinced by this, but says she'll keep it up.
The Waterhole
Sheila is in tears after filling Kyle, Levi, Bea and Roxy in on what she discovered between Clive and Jane. She says Clive was one of the most important people in her life, so she doesn't understand how he could do this to her. Bea's surprised by Jane too, calling her a "straighty-one-eighty" when she lived at #28. Sheila says "Little Miss Goody-Two-Shoes" had them all fooled and that it only took one man to "bring out her backstabbing colours".
LEVI: I wouldn't have seen Clive as the kind of guy to go behind your back, Gran.
SHEILA: No.
KYLE: Well, he cheated on Beverly when he wanted to get back with Gran.
ROXY: Although it's kind of good. Technically he's not cheating because you guys aren't together. (Sheila glares at her) Not that I don't think he pulled a complete dog act!
SHEILA: And to think that Jane let me pour my heart out about Clive, and all the time her prissy lips were just zipped. She even said that she'd help me win him back!
BEA: That's pretty low.
SHEILA: And Clive, knowing how crazy I was about him, just sat there and couldn't even look me in the eye to tell me the truth.
Kyle says how sorry he is and asks if there's anything they can do. But Sheila cries that there's nothing anyone can do as she's never going to get over this. Ever!
Later on, Kyle lets Levi know that Sheila went for a walk to clear her head. He feels guilty because the only reason Sheila saw Clive and Jane together was because she was getting him a massage voucher from The Flame Tree. Levi tells his cousin to try and ease up on the self-inflicted guilt trip, especially since Kyle is still hurting about Bossy too. He says he'll worry about their Gran, and Kyle can focus on Roxy. Levi sees Roxy and Bea chatting together at the bar and then tells Kyle with a grin that Roxy is pretty stoked about the present he bought her.
KYLE: Yeah? I'm glad I went for the dark chocolate.
LEVI: Mate, she could see you had something else stuffed in your Duty Free bag.
KYLE: What, two bottles of bourbon and a neck pillow?
LEVI: Nothing else for Rox? (Kyle shakes his head) It's Christmas! And she made this massive deal to me and Bea about how it's great for couples to swap gifts, and how it's a new test. I think she's expecting something massive.
Kyle tries not to freak out. Meanwhile, over at the bar, Roxy is asking Bea what she really wants for Christmas from Levi.
ROXY: I can drop a couple of hints, I'm very subtle.
BEA: Honestly the best thing Levi can get me is just a little bit of silence.
ROXY: Are you sick of the one-liners too? Tell me about it!
BEA: No! I'm talking about his white noise app.
It plays through the night constantly and Bea can't sleep because of it, that's why she's been exhausted recently. But she doesn't want to tell Levi because she knows he needs a good night's sleep for his epilepsy. Roxy says Bea will be no good to anyone if she's walking around like a zombie, but Bea says she can handle it.
Lassiters Complex
Jane has sought out Nicolette for a chat to debrief on what happened with Sheila. Jane says she can't stand the thought of Sheila hating her, but Nic says all her mum can do is apologise. Nic gets a text, which appears to rattle her, but she chooses to ignore it and concentrate on her mum.
NICOLETTE: I'm sure it looks bad now, but no one can blame you for not telling her considering the way she reacted. It's not like you planned for you and Clive to get together.
JANE: That's very true. It took us both completely by surprise. And really, why shouldn't I be with Clive? We're both mature, unattached adults.
Nicolette hears the text tone again and looks at her phone. It's a message from Ricardo that says 'I don't like to be ignored'. But ignore it she does, and she once again refocuses her attention on her mother. Jane continues on, saying her and Clive have every right to be together. Nicolette smiles and says she hopes it all works out. Jane thanks her, saying how grateful she is to have Nic in her corner.
Outside The Waterhole, Sheila is sitting at a table by herself while Levi hovers around her. She doesn't want him fussing over her, though, and points out that she's been through much tougher things in her time. Levi says she doesn't have to put on a brave face and reminds her he's there to listen. But when Clive slowly walks over and asks to talk, Levi goes back into the pub to let them have privacy.
CLIVE: So it was shocking what happened and it's not fair that you found out that way.
SHEILA: You're right, it wasn't. I handed you my heart on a platter, Clive, and you stomped all over it.
CLIVE: I didn't mean to.
SHEILA: I couldn't have made it plainer. And then you let me look like an idiot talking about getting us back together again, when all the time you're running around with somebody else!
CLIVE: I was clear that our relationship had ended.
SHEILA: But you didn't have the guts to tell me about Jane.
CLIVE: No, you're right.
SHEILA: And you know what? I confided in her as a friend about you, and she didn't have the common courtesy to set me straight. You're both as bad as each other.
CLIVE: We were going to tell you.
SHEILA: You said to me you couldn't get past me lying about Levi. That we would always have trust issues. Well you're no better. You're an absolute hypocrite, Clive Gibbons.
The Waterhole
Roxy tells Levi and Bea she's suss on where Kyle disappeared to, but Levi says Kyle's just worried about Sheila. Roxy knowingly says that Clive's the one they should be worried about. When she returns to the bar, Kyle slips inside after making a shopping trip to a Pandora jewellery store. He's about to show Levi and Bea what he bought when Roxy comes back to the table. Kyle quickly hides the bag and makes up some excuse about how he was just sorting out stuff for the tram. Levi changes the subject to help out Kyle and not-so-subtly asks Bea what the best Christmas present she's ever got was. Roxy smirks and says she's got a fair idea about what Bea would want for Christmas. Bea jokes that she'd love an expensive guitar, but Levi just wants a hint to point him in the right direction.
ROXY: What she really wants for Christmas is a good night's sleep. So if you want to jingle her bells, delete the white noise app.
Bea looks slightly mortified, but Roxy thinks she's done them both a big favour.
Erinsborough Hospital
David excitedly hangs up from a phone call with Mark just as Aaron finds him. David smiles and tells Aaron that Paige has gone into labour and Mark just called him for some advice. Aaron's happy and asks if they need to do anything, but David says they just have to wait it out.
DAVID: This is so exciting for them! Gabe's birth was pretty full on for Paige and now she's got the full support of a hospital. Mark's finally going to be a dad; this is amazing.
And while Aaron agrees, David can see that something is troubling his husband. Aaron says that he's pleased David is so thrilled for Mark and Paige, but it would be great if he could show the same enthusiasm about their own baby, too. He wants to know why David can't just move past what happened with Nicolette. "We have our own baby on the way, why can't you be pumped about that?" Aaron asks, but David doesn't have a response for him.
Lassiters Complex
Jane is still chatting with Nicolette out the back of Harold's, but she's worried she's worn her daughter out as she looks tired. Nicolette says Jane can't take all of the credit as exhaustion is all part of the fun of pregnancy. Jane thinks Nic should cut back on some of her volunteering hours, but Nicolette says she's actually more stressed about waiting for a date for her court hearing. And she still doesn't have any legal representation. Jane offers to help Nicolette on that front as she's in need of a distraction right now. When Jane heads to the bathroom, Nicolette gets another text from Ricardo. This one says that he's on his way to Melbourne and he'll see her soon. Nicolette looks frustrated.
The Waterhole
Kyle is taking a small nap at the counter when Levi and Bea return from a shopping trip. They see Sheila and ask how her chat went with Clive. Sheila says she'd rather not talk about it - and she doesn't want Levi stuck "babysitting" her either. She wants Levi and Bea to have some fun and swap their Christmas presents. After she leaves, Levi asks Bea why she didn't just tell him she hated the white noise app. Bea says she knows how vital sleep is to Levi, but he tells her that she's more important than that. They head to a table to open their gifts, but Levi can't resist giving Kyle a slap on the back to wake him up first. Levi and Bea are amused to discover they've both bought each other air pods to block out noise. But Levi says he's also going to build Bea a billy cart, which she's genuinely delighted about.
At the bar, Kyle brings out a wine glass and some wine for Roxy, and also gives her the Pandora bag. Roxy's thrilled about getting some bling then makes doe-eyes at Kyle before she opens it.
ROXY: Yes. I do.
KYLE: (panicked) What? No, Rox, no that's not a ring!
ROXY: (grinning) Relax, I'm just messing with you!
She opens the gift and finds some silver jewellery inside. Roxy looks touched and tells Kyle she loves it. Kyle pretends he got it from Duty Free but Roxy tells him she saw him holding the bag earlier. But she doesn't care where he got it from because it's perfect, just like him.
Erinsborough Hospital
David's surprised to find Aaron is still there but Aaron says he needed to clear his head. David apologises for frustrating him, and Aaron admits it's really starting to bum him out. But he's also worried about David.
DAVID: I am excited for us to become parents. But I can't help the way I feel. How Nicolette behaved towards her patient is disgusting, and I can't see how you could be okay with it.
AARON: I never said I was.
DAVID: But you're willing to accept it?
AARON: Seriously, what choice do we have? Whether you like it or not, this is happening.
Aaron gets a text message, and is surprised to learn that Mark and Paige have had the baby already. He shows David the photos Mark has sent through.
AARON: Little Freddie.
DAVID: He's adorable. Mark and Paige look wrecked.
AARON: Yeah, they look stoked.
DAVID: We're going to be uncles again.
AARON: We're going to be dads soon too. The longer you freeze Nic out, the more scared I feel. Is this what you're going to be like when our baby's finally here? David I can't keep spending my energy trying to get you on board with the mother of our child. We need to be a team here.
David looks as though he's struggling. He wants to be a team with Aaron too, but he's still conflicted about Nicolette.
Lassiters Complex
Sheila isn't happy when she accidentally bumps into Jane, and lets her know as much. Jane apologises again for what happened, but Sheila snaps at her to save her breath. She says that Jane's been lying to her for weeks so why would she believe anything out of her mouth now.
JANE: I should have told you right from the start.
SHEILA: You think? I know we haven't been friends for long, Jane, but I did expect better from you.
JANE: I was terrified of hurting you and I feel dreadful that it's ended up that way.
SHEILA: But not bad enough to stop sneaking around behind my back?
JANE: I should have been honest, I've gone about this very badly. But I have a right to follow my heart too.
SHEILA: And stuff anyone else?
JANE: You said that you didn't want to be so fixated on Clive anymore and I wanted to give you time to get over him.
SHEILA: I don't need your pity!
JANE: Is there anything I can do to make this better?
SHEILA: Yes. Break up with Clive. (She smirks at her) Then I'll see if we can be friends.
Number 32 Backyard
Jane tells Clive that she just had a terrible run-in with Sheila. She then panics about where Clive parked his car in case Sheila sees it. Clive hopes she doesn't because he also had an awful run-in with Sheila. Clive says she just does not want he and Jane to be together.
JANE: I know. She wants me to call it off.
CLIVE: Is that what you want? You want to call it quits?
JANE: What's happened is awful, but now that we're here I couldn't bear the thought.
CLIVE: Neither could I. We are going to have to put up with Sheila's reprisals.
JANE: I don't want to give up on us. I've made some silly mistakes with love chasing the wrong dream. With you I feel like I'm on solid ground.
CLIVE: I feel exactly the same way.
JANE: Isn't that worth fighting for?
Clive then decides they should take their little getaway after all. Staying home is just rubbing salt into the wound, and he'd rather take the time to focus on them as a couple and face the fallout together later. Jane gets a bit teary, which worries Clive, but Jane smiles and says it's because she's happy. Clive beams when she says she has a wonderful man in her life, plus she's excited about having a grandchild on the way too.
Harold's Café
Nicolette cleans the coffee machine but is still stressing about the messages from Ricardo. The Café is empty when she walks behind the counter, paces for a moment and then faints onto the floor.
