Terese's office
Terese is justifying herself to a very unhappy Paul over why she gave Jenna a job. Jenna reassures them that she won't let them down before going off to give Emmett the good news prior to her induction.
Harold's café
Pierce is chatting with Jane and Karl about Fay's impending visit and Jane looks pleased to hear that her daughter is hopefully going to be involved too, especially the bit about her potentially moving into the street.
As she is about to head back to the school, Karl asks how things are going and Jane isn't too keen on replying in case Susan doesn't approve of the "thinly veiled check-up" on her but promises to give him a full run down when she gets home from work.
Once they are alone, Karl urges Pierce to get Nicolette involved, as a nurse will greatly ease the load for everyone at #24, especially if Fay stays for several months.
Lassiters hotel foyer
Emmett is pleased to hear his mum has a new job although the lad is concerned over how far away she lives from Lassiters. Jenna reassures him that she is fine with the commute and checks with David and Aaron if it will be okay to celebrate later with her son (they consent) before heading into the hotel for her induction.
Lassiters Park
Levi is annoyed Kyle seems to be spending more time texting Roxy than playing footy with him! Kyle taunts his cousin that at least he has a love life, and to try and prove he has too, Levi tries to engage the passing Nicolette. She turns down the invite to play footy because she "doesn't do ball sports" and uses that as a reasoning too for not giving him her phone number.
Number 24
Chloe is puzzled why her husband is giving the house a spring clean until he explains he's invited Nicolette to the house to get her advice. Moments later Nicolette arrives for the socially distant chat about what needs to be done before Fay arrives.
Terese's office
Jenna finally finishes filling in the multitude of forms needed so she can start work at the hotel. As she does that, Paul and Terese are politely squabbling over the hire before he warns Jenna that "one foot out of line" she will be quickly removed from their employment. Terese isn't amused at her husband and quickly removes Jenna to show her what needs doing.
Number 24
After finishing the walk through the house, Nicolette tells Pierce and Chloe what is required to be done for Fay's arrival. She is also happy to confirm that if she accepts the job, she would live in. Nicolette also reassures Chloe that she will still be helping look after her mum, just in conjunction with the nurse.
The pile of stuff Pierce hid before Nicolette arrived suddenly crashes to the floor, so Chloe takes the chance to have a private word with Nicolette while he sorts the fallen stuff. Given that Nicolette tried to pick Chloe up, she hopes that if they offer her the job, things won't be weird between them. "Don't worry, there's no feels," Nicolette reassures her with and hopes they can be friends now she knows Chloe isn't free.
The Waterhole
When Jane runs into her daughter in the pub, she is hopeful they can have a catch up, but Nicolette has made plans to meet friends... which is actually gate-crashing Levi and Kyle's chat! Continuing on from what the boys were chatting about outside, Kyle tries to rope her into sorting Levi out. The trio banter about their love lives... or the lack of them for both Nicolette and Levi.
NICOLETTE: Admittedly, I'm in a bit of a dry spell at the moment. I have a habit of falling for unobtainable women and trying desperately to be their friends instead.
KYLE: And how does that go?
NICOLETTE: Honestly, it's a challenge.
Terese's office
Paul is waiting to pounce on Jenna the moment she (and Terese) return to the office for putting down a disconnected number in the forms she was filling in. After blaming it on writing down the wrong number, due to recently changing it, she is she is allowed to explain why - her ex kept calling and she wanted to get away from him. Paul doesn't exactly believe her, preferring his own version instead - changed to get away from debt collectors, so Terese leads her outside to calm the situation down.
Out in the corridor, Terese is keen to get someone to help support Jenna, but she reassures her new boss that she is fine. Jenna admits that its nice having someone look out for her and doesn't seem too impressed at the support Terese is getting from Paul.
TERESE: He can be infuriating, but he is always there when I need him.
She then volunteers to be the one Jenna can call on if she needs support before going back into the office and giving Paul a serve! He is still insistent Jenna is going to be "bad for business."
TERESE: I'm not changing my mind
PAUL: I'll tell you Terese, this is not going to end well.
TERESE: Well I think it will, as long as you stay away from her and from me!
Number 28
Paul is avoiding going home, so has headed over to #28 for a cuppa and a natter with Jane. Despite what she said previously, Jane now wants Paul's help with Nicolette after getting the brush off again from her today. "Don't back down until she knows you love her," is his advice but she is reluctant to do that in case she is scared off.
PAUL: I've been in this situation too many times. Kids need to know that they're loved. Yes. And a bit of fight might just be the proof that Nicolette needs.
The Waterhole
Some folk might be impressed at hearing how a policeman rescued some kittens but not the lassie Levi is attempting to chat up as Kyle and Nicolette watch on from the other side of the bar. [From the credits we know she is actually called Alex.]
KYLE: This is brutal.
NICOLETTE: I almost feel sorry for him.
Thankfully Levi gives up and retreats to the safety of his friends but not before Kyle immediately ribs him for "being knocked back twice in one arvo."
KYLE: That's got to bruise the ego!
Levi is at a loss to work out why his usual 'kitten story' didn't win this time and Kyle points out that perhaps she is a dog person... but given Alex seems to be looking at Nicolette, adds that "maybe she's not into ball sports either."
Any thoughts Nicolette had of going over to chat with Alex is curtailed when Chloe walks into the bar. Nicolette explains how she knows Chloe (and Pierce) and Levi is about to spill with the juicy gossip until Kyle orders him to shut up! As if to detract attention from staring too much at Chloe, Nicolette gets up and goes over to chat with Alex.
Number 24
Chloe has finished thinking about it and tells Pierce that she wants them to hire Nicolette, concluding that it is best for her mum. He wonder if they should tell Nicolette about the pregnancy, but Chloe would rather that happened later.
When Pierce heads off to clear the spare room out, it allows Chloe to speak freely with Aaron who has just called (Chloe texted him to inform him about hiring Nicolette). She confirms they've had "the awkward chat" and is sure Nicolette has moved on after seeing her "cracking onto" the lassie in the bar.
Number 22
"Planning on brooding all night?" Terese greets Paul with after finding him sitting alone in the kitchen. He replies he was staying out of her way as that is what he thought she wanted. "I want you to be reasonable," she informs him and chastises him for his treatment of Jenna.
PAUL: What do you expect Terese? She comes in from the cold with absolutely no credentials.
TERESE: She's trying to change her life. The same way I did when my drinking problem was it its worst. You know, she actually feels sorry for me.
This perks Paul's interest and Terese continues by saying Jenna couldn't believe she "could depend on somebody with such a lack of compassion."
TERESE: I sometimes wonder too... which is why I went to AA today.
PAUL: Terese, I would support you to the end of time, you know that.
She's at a loss then to work out "why can't you support Jenna?" and his explanation is that they are "two completely different people."
TERESE: How would you know?! When you look at her, all you see is a threat, somebody who would take Emmett away.
PAUL: You know that kid had nothing before David and Aaron came along. They're the ones that took him in, they are the ones who look after him, they are the ones who love him.
TERESE: She's still his mother.
While acknowledging that, Paul then adds that Emmett "has been put through hell." She tries to explain that Jenna has had her "fair share of bad circumstances too."
TERESE: Paul, we have the means to help her and we should. She's trying her best, so just let her have this.
Lassiters hotel (Nicolette's room)/Number 24
"Is this a bad time?" Chloe asks after hearing that Nicolette has someone with her (Alex) when she calls. "Now's good," she replies, and Chloe continues the call and formally offer Nicolette the position of live-in nurse for Fay. Nicolette is over the moon at the news and will move her stuff into #24 tomorrow.
Number 32
As David leads Jenna into the kitchen, she sincerely thanks him for allowing her to see Emmett and hopes now she knows her work schedule, that they can set up some permanent visitation slots. Emmett is pleased to see his mum when he comes out of his room and the pair set about making dinner - mac and cheese.
Unseen, David says to the now appeared Aaron that Emmett "looks happy." Aaron is still unsure if they can trust her or not, but David points out Jenna "is doing all the right things."
AARON: It could be us visiting them one day.
Harold's café
Levi is surprised to see Nicolette in the café alone and thinks she's "struck out too."
NICOLETTE: Of course not. Unlike you, I know how to follow through.
Levi wants proof and Nicolette replies Alex "is upstairs in my hotel room." He then wonders why she isn't there too and her explanation is getting supplies because "we worked up a bit of an appetite" and celebrating getting the job. "Welcome to the street," he says and hopes to see her around.
Given that Kyle isn't around, she wants him to say what he was going to earlier (about Chloe and Pierce) before Kyle stopped him. "I probably shouldn't," he says and adds that "it's none of my business," but Nicolette is after it, especially given she is going to be living with them and doesn't want to "walk in on something unprepared."
LEVI: They almost had a threesome with my auntie.
NICOLETTE: Really?!
LEVI: Yes. I wasn't there at the time, it's only what I heard. My aunt has some history with Pierce and suggested it, but they never went through with it.
NICOLETTE: Well what was the trouble then?
LEVI: Apparently it brought up heaps of issues between them. But you never heard it from me... right.
NICOLETTE: Of course not!
