Police station
Bea and Susan (with Aster safely in her arms) are wondering what to say to Elly when Shaun appears after making his statement to the police. Susan (after she hands Aster over to her dad) is after an explanation over what is going on, and Shaun promises to tell them but now "isn't a great time." Shaun asks how Elly is and Bea replies that she is struggling especially after she lost her appeal but thinks she'll be "blown away" when she finds out he is alive! He isn't sure Elly will want him around after what his family have put her through, but Bea reassures him that it "had nothing to do with you."
BEA: I bet you're in shock after what your mum did?
SHAUN: Yes. Yes, I am.
Meanwhile in the interview room, Claudia isn't happy at being held - wanting instead to get to Shaun and Aster. She denies knowing anything about destroying the evidence against Finn, despite Snr Constable Briggs making a statement landing her in it. The interview ends when she goes 'no comment' on the questions until her lawyer arrives.
Goodwood prison
Elly is failing to get Andrea to accept that she is having nothing to do with the arranged fight - she doesn't want to get an assault charge that means she is inside longer.
ANDREA: Fight back, don't fight back, either way she's going to hurt you. It's up to you.
Number 28
"That's unbelievable," Karl says after Toadie brings him up to date on what he has found out (about the Judge) and that he is going to go for an emergency bail application to get Elly out of prison. While he waits on the all-important call, Toadie adds that he hasn't said anything to Elly, so her hopes aren't dashed. "That's probably wise," Karl replies back in agreement before changing the subject - have either of them seen Susan as he can't get hold of her (they haven't).
Their chat is interrupted when Aaron and David stop by to get some stuff for Aster - that is the first Karl has heard of it and no wonder he looks surprised!!!
Lassiters Complex
"This is incredible," Karl declares after seeing Shaun (with Aster) outside the police station. "It feels that way, doesn't it?!" Shaun acknowledges before going on, after Karl asked, to say that he is fine physically but the rest "is still sinking in." Karl gets that but is now after some answers from his wife, but its Bea who gets in first to say, "everything happened so fast" and Susan explains about cancelling the calls to keep the phone free.
Toadie rushes out of his office with good news - Judge Vagg has admitted to being blackmailed and that Elly will be released "on conditional bail." He is about to head to the prison to get her and Bea immediately says she wants to go with him. Susan plans on going too, but not before she tells her husband that he can be the one to stay with Shaun after he somewhat hinted that they should both stay!
Goodwood prison
Andrea frogmarches an unwilling Elly into the room where the fight is going to take place. "I don't want to fight you," Elly says to Patrice, but she'd have been better psyching herself up for the fight as it's going to happen whether she wants it to take place or not!
Despite Elly's protestations and pleas, Patrice (and the women) force Elly to participate in the fight - even pulling the shiv out of her sleeve makes little impression on Patrice, other than to taunt Elly into using it!
(Later)
It's a case of 'Here we go round the Mulberry Bush' as Patrice and Elly do circles of the room trying to avoid engaging with one another. Eventually Elly goes for Patrice, but she's ready for the attack and retaliates by punching Elly in the guts! Just as Patrice is ready to throttle Elly, a guard interrupts (Andrea quickly kicks the fallen shiv out of the guard's sight) to summon Elly to see the Governor.
Police station
Sam is back to support Claudia while she is being detained and her advice is "to cooperate" so she gets "a better deal." Claudia is aghast at the prospect of being locked up because "Aster and Shaun need me" and suggests Sam digs up some more dirt against a dodgy judge!
CLAUDIA: You know I'll pay.
SAM: Keep your voice down!
CLAUDIA: You need to help me!
"There is nothing I can do," Sam replies and suggests if she isn't happy, then to get a new lawyer! "You're dumping me?" a stunned Claudia asks and reminds Sam that "you did this!" before threatening to tell them "everything." "Tell them what?" Sam immediately counters with before going to spill it bluntly to Claudia - she gave her advice off the record and it was her who took it and used it to her own advantage.
CLAUDIA: You knew what I was doing was illegal!
SAM: There's nothing connecting me to this Claudia. You did it all yourself.
Claudia then brings up the Kennedy's and thought they were in it together and is reminded that they were... "until you turned yourself in."
SAM: That was not part of the plan!
"What choice did I have?" Claudia says but Sam isn't buying that - she had a plane ready and so could have left the country... "but you didn't, you chose to stay." Sam gets up to go leave and her parting comment is that Claudia should have ran while she had the chance!
Number 28
Karl comes home with Aster and explains to the waiting Dee, Aaron and David that Elly has been given immediate bail and Toadie, Susan and Bea have gone to the prison to get her. They're thrilled to hear that news and Karl adds that once Shaun has finished at the station (he's waiting to talk to his mum) he will be coming to the house too.
Dee is then surprised to hear Aaron say that the police have finished going through the penthouse and they discovered a connection from Claudia to Andrea - a "fair whack" of money was transferred into Andrea's prison spending account from Claudia.
Goodwood prison
Elly takes great delight in telling Andrea (and her cronies) that she is being released on emergency bail after she's spotted walking along the corridor. Andrea can't believe what she is hearing and thinks there has been some sort of mistake and warns Elly that she will be back... so she can smash her!
ELLY: Goodbye Andrea.
Police station
Shaun is allowed into the room where his mum is still being held. Given she is likely to go to jail "for a long time" he wants to know what happened, commenting that what she did "isn't you." Initially she replies, "I don't know," but he doesn't accept that and is after the truth, so she opens up and explains that after she thought he was dead, "something inside me broke" and how much "it hurt" especially after hearing what Finn did and Elly's role in it. It appears that Elly not going to jail was the catalyst for what happened next, but she tells him that she is going to confess all to the police "so people can move on." While he is happy to hear her say that, he then adds that he will never forgive her...
SHAUN: But you are my mum.
Goodwood prison
Its reunion hugs all round when Elly is led into the room where Susan, Bea and Toadie are patiently waiting for her. "What did you do?" she asks Toadie after hugging him and his reply is "it's a long story." Hugs over with, the news is then broken to Elly that Shaun is alive.
Lassiters Complex
Rather than go home to her waiting daughter, Elly is on a mission - to see Claudia while she still has the chance as she "doesn't want to leave anything unsaid." Bea pleads with her sister to stop as Claudia "isn't worth it" and tries to remind her also that she is on bail. Toadie then corrects Bea - Elly's not out on bail, she's been given the original suspended sentence that Elly agreed to.
TOADIE: It's all over bar the paperwork.
Just as they reach the police station, they spot Sam leaving and wordlessly the ladies pass her to enter the station. Toadie holds back from entering as he has something to say to Sam...
TOADIE: You're a disgrace to the profession!
SAM: I'll put my win-loss record against yours any day of the week.
TOADIE: Yes, it's easier to win when you blackmail the judge Sam.
Sam pleads she didn't know what Claudia was doing, and informs him that now she has, she no longer represents her. Laughing at her, Toadie remarks that she has it "all sorted out."
SAM: I still don't know what you are talking about.
TOADIE: How about facilitating judicial corruption for a start?
Sam sarcastically asks if he has proof of that and Toadie continues by adding that he knows about the judge finding in her favour in other cases.
SAM: Clearly, I made a good impression... and I made a good case too unlike you!
"You're unbelievable," he says to her, but she thinks not - she's given her statement to the police and they don't think she has a case to answer.
SAM: Be careful throwing allegations around counsellor or we could see each other back in court sooner than you think.
Police station
Claudia seems very surprised when the officer informs her that she has visitors and seconds later, Elly is first into the room closely followed by Bea and Susan.
ELLY: Handcuffs!
Claudia explains that she is awaiting a transfer to remand and adds that Elly "must be enjoying this?"
ELLY: I'm not actually. I wanted to feel angry at you for what you did to me, for what you did to my family, for what you did to my daughter but now that I look at you, all I feel is pity.
CLAUDIA: I don't what your pity.
After a brief pause, Claudia says that she has admitted "all I did" and "will pay for it for the rest of my life."
CLAUDIA: But I know you killed my son. And I don't care what the law or anyone else says, you are not fit to mother my granddaughter.
ELLY: I don't need to stand here and protect my innocence, nor do you get to tell me what kind of mother I am.
CLAUDIA: The mother that...
ELLY: (interrupting) I love Aster unconditionally. I would never, ever treat her the way you treated your two sons.
CLAUDIA: (shocked) That's not fair.
ELLY: No, you know what's not fair is you abandoned Finn when he needed you the most. That's why he's a killer. He's done the most horrendous things and he won't see justice... but you will!
CLAUDIA: I love Aster.
ELLY: I know. I know you do, and you will never, ever see her again.
With that parting statement, Elly (and the others) exit the room and leave a stunned Claudia sitting there.
Number 28
"Wow" and "incredible" are the comments Aaron and David make after Shaun tells them offscreen how he is alive and kicking before turning onto a happier topic - him meeting his daughter. The smile on Shaun's face tells it all the boys' head home before Elly arrives, partially as Aaron isn't sure Elly would welcome seeing him just now.
Shaun isn't sure if he should be at the house for when Elly comes home but Karl reassures him, he is most welcome, and that Elly will want to see him too. "I've been thinking about this moment ever since..." but he can't get the rest of the sentence out. Karl goes over and puts a comforting hand on Shaun's shoulder and says to him "I understand."
SHAUN: I don't want to stuff it up.
KARL: You won't.
Goodwood prison
Dee gets straight to the point when her sister joins her in the visiting room - why did Claudia give her money, and did it concern Elly? Given Andrea has been making nonchalant replies to the question, Dee goes to leave but is asked to sit back down. Andrea explains that Claudia didn't think it was safe for Aster to be in a prison, so asked her "to stir things up a bit" so that other people would agree with her. Dee isn't amused, that because of Andrea's interference, it helped Claudia get custody of Aster. She mentions too what Claudia was planning on doing, attempting to flee the country.
ANDREA: Serous?! Go Grandma!
Dee is sickened at her sister and points out that Elly almost lost her child and Andrea's comeback is "she didn't." Of course she can't but help then get in that she lost her child and pleads with Dee for news on Hugo. Dee keeps quiet partially as she is sure 'the lippy' Andrea has put on is fake.
DEE: I'm not falling for it anymore; you need to stop treating people the way you do. It's disgusting!
"Are you judging me?" Andrea asks and when there is no reply, asks if Dee thinks she is better than her - that is met with Dee's eyes being rolled!
ANDREA: You've got no idea what it was like for me growing up. The things I had to do. You have no idea what it's like to fight for every good thing in your life just to have smug idiots like you just snatch it away from me! Do you huh?!
Andrea has worked herself into such an angry temper, the guard comes over to stop the visit and take her back to her cell. She hasn't finished though, taunting "Princess Dee" that she'd "like to see you in here, you wouldn't last five minutes."
As Andrea is being led back to her cell, Dee spots another familiar face being escorted down a corridor - Heather, her mum.
Ramsay Street
Elly is barely out of the car before Karl is over to hug her. There is more good news too for Elly - Claudia's guardianship has been overturned and the bairn is back in her mum's care. Elly sincerely thanks Toadie for all his help before he leaves them to it and heads to his own house.
The sisters head inside but Karl stops his wife from, determined that now is the time to talk given there hasn't been "a right time" lately. He isn't impressed at her keeping him out of the loop, even if things have sorted themselves out now. "I was busy," she eventually says in exasperation, but he points out that she could have made "one phone call" but her comeback is she'd "other things on my mind."
SUSAN: Do you know what, believe what you want. You clearly don't trust me anymore anyway.
Karl is left flabbergasted as Susan walks off to enter the house. He gets out his phone and calls Olivia to see if she is free.
Number 28
Susan enters the house to find the sisters frantic - Shaun and Aster are missing! "They've got to be somewhere," a confused Susan says, adding that Karl was recently with them. "They're not here," a frantic Elly replies and just at that, Shaun carrying Aster come in from the backyard. Shaun apologises if he freaked them out, explaining that they simply needed some fresh air.
SHAUN: I've already stuffed this up, haven't I?
Susan and Bea to conveniently go elsewhere to give them some privacy as Elly then walks towards Shaun to get a take Aster back into her arms for a cuddle. Aster doesn't seem too fussed while Elly admits that she can't believe "this is real."
ELLY: You're really here?
SHAUN: I'm sorry it took so long.
