Number 22
Mark explains to Ned that the 3D gun ring is part of a tri-state police operation and he's looking after the South Australian contingent. Toadie arrives after getting a text from Terese and is delighted to see Mark, until he realises it's not a "stitch up" and he's there to be Ned's lawyer.
TOADIE: Sorry is this official business?
MARK: Apparently there will never be a shortage of work while Ned's around.
TOADIE: Right... and your uniform's in the wash?
MARK: Promotion! I made detective again.
Toadie congratulates Mark and Ned's left standing there wondering what to do when your supposed lawyer is being so chummy with your snarky detective nemesis. Toadie looks at Ned and asks what he's done now.
Number 30
Yashvi sits with Nell and Hugo while Shane returns from his room - Dipi's lying down with a cracking headache and he's got one coming on too. Yashvi explains this is why she kept everything a secret; she didn't want to stress out her loved ones. Shane makes a derisive comment about Ned screwing up once more, just as Toadie arrives home. Toadie is quietly fuming and says he can't represent Ned.
TOADIE: He forged a letter threatening a gang leader on a letterhead that he stole from my office.
SHANE: You are joking.
TOADIE: That's why we had the break-in. Who knows what they were going to do next. They could have come for the kids!
Yashvi says the police told her no one was in danger, which makes her dad and uncle scoff. Shane replies they should have been informed of what was going on but Yashvi says she couldn't have blabbed everything, "it would have jeopardised the whole operation."
YASHVI: Is he facing any charges?
TOADIE: That's up to Mark Brennan. That's right, he's back in town. And he's had a promotion.
YASHVI: And Mark hates Ned.
TOADIE: Well he can join the queue.
Number 24
Chloe's on her laptop and tells Pierce that Princess Mary's people still aren't on board yet, but she's been meeting all of their requests and it's looking promising. Pierce is a bit worried things won't work out on time, which makes Chloe even more stressed, but she keeps plugging away. Pierce suggests she take a break and Hendrix offers to play a new video game with her. There's a knock at the door and Chloe is stunned and delighted to discover her big bro's in town. Mark greets Pierce and Hendrix, and Chloe says he's definitely staying with them while he's back, which ruffles Hendrix's feathers.
Number 32
Aaron and David are trying on their outfits for Mardi Gras while Kyle fills them in on the whole Yashvi/Ned/Zenin debacle.
AARON: Why are they bothering to put that chick through the academy? She could go straight into uniform.
David asks what's going to happen to Ned and Kyle's unsure, hoping his mate doesn't get into too much trouble. Kyle comments on the Mardi Gras and the boys inform him that all the plans are falling into place.
DAVID: Dad's just trying to crack the whip to get everything ready on time.
AARON: Yeah, not literally.
KYLE: Ah, well there's a picture I didn't need.
He leaves them to it and heads down the hallway, stoked to find Chloe standing there with Mark. Kyle and Mark grin and hug each other, keeping silent so as not to spoil the surprise. And Aaron and David definitely are surprised and thrilled when Mark appears in the kitchen to say hello. Aaron runs over to give Mark a hug.
Number 22 Backyard
Hendrix leaps over the back fence and bounds across to where Harlow's doing homework.
HENDRIX: Special delivery!
HARLOW: Return to sender.
Hendrix is about to strut through the house like he owns the place but Harlow stops him, letting him know Ned's trying to explain why he's in trouble with the cops again to Paul and Terese.
HARLOW: The detective has only just left.
HENDRIX: Ugh, I know, Mark. He's just been at our place acting like he owns the joint.
HARLOW: Oh, maybe because he does?
She tells Hendrix to go home, but he'll only go if he can take Clementine with him. Harlow's like, 'fine, whatever', but Hendrix can't resist chasing her with the cat until she starts sneezing.
Number 32
Mark tells his family that it's a "day-by-day" thing with Fay but she's doing the best they can hope for at the moment. He adds that Tyler and Piper have been fantastic as well, he wouldn't have been able to work in Erinsborough if it weren't for them.
AARON: I've been keeping up with Piper's vlog. It just keeps getting better and better.
MARK: (nodding) Did you know she's making money from it now?
Chloe gets a whole bunch of alerts on her phone at once and Mark teases her for being glued to her device. But he understands how busy being head honcho makes her. Chloe says she's not the only one crushing it lately, pointing at David and Aaron the "future kings of Mardi Gras". Mark gets a phone call and takes it in the hallway, while Chloe moans to the boys that she just got seven messages in a row from Paul. Her and Mark have to head out on separate work business but promise to have dinner with David and Aaron later.
Number 22
Terese and Paul are talking things through with Ned about Zenin. Terese is alarmed to hear Paul knew about some of it already, but Paul points out it wasn't "the gun part". Harlow walks in with the sniffles and explains that it's just her cat allergy. Terese tells Ned he needs to organise an appointment with his counsellor to talk things through. Ned says he will. Terese asks how Yashvi took everything and Ned says she wasn't exactly over the moon about the outcome.
NED: If she just told me she was undercover, none of this would have happened.
TERESE: (scoffing) Are you telling me you're blaming her for your bad decisions? She was doing her job, Ned!
PAUL: Yes and if she is going to be a cop you're going to have to pull your head in.
TERESE: if you want my advice, you adjust your attitude before you speak to her next.
The Waterhole
Ned apologises to Yashvi for not meeting her earlier, he was being grilled by Terese and Paul, and Mark wasn't exactly "short and sharp" about it either. Yashvi points out that it's not like Mark returned for a social visit. She tells him she asked the cops to go on easy on him but they're not happy with him, "and neither am I to be honest". But they were impressed with how she handled everything. Mark finds them and tells Ned he should consider himself lucky - he's only getting a caution.
MARK: So let this be clear: you have no chances left. You got it?
NED: (subdued) Yep. Won't be any more trouble. Thank you.
YASHVI: Don't put me in this position again.
NED: I won't.
He goes to the bar to get them drinks while Mark hangs back.
MARK: Word of advice, because you have all the makings of being a great cop.
YASHVI: Thanks.
MARK: And this comes from first-hand experience - if you can't keep work and personal life completely separate, you've got a problem.
YASHVI: I know that.
MARK: I know you do. But based on Ned's history he might make that hard. Something to think about.
Yashvi looks stressed.
Number 22
Terese leaves a voicemail for Gary, reminding him to call her any time he needs to. She tells Paul she's worried he hasn't got in contact with her yet, but Paul snarks that Gary probably hasn't figured out how to switch on international roaming. Paul's also not keen on Gary locating Prue because he doesn't want her back in Harlow's life.
PAUL: My priority is to protect my granddaughter.
TERESE: If Prue has left The Order then she'll be able to focus on her daughter for once. And it's in Harlow's best interest that they reconnect.
PAUL: Yeah, well I'm telling you, not gonna happen.
They change the subject when Harlow walks downstairs. Paul tells Terese he needs to head back to Lassiters and get more work done before Lucy arrives. This is news to Terese as she had no idea Lucy was flying in to oversee the wedding expo and Mardi Gras. Terese hopes that Paul has at least kept Chloe in the loop about Lucy's impending arrival and Paul's like, "oh yeah, I've CC'd her in a million emails".
Harlow sneezes, heralding the return of Hendrix and Clementine. Terese offers Harlow some tissues and Harlow mutters that she hates both Hendrix and the cat.
The Waterhole
Mark is having a catch up with Shane, Toadie and the kids. He can't believe how much Nell and Hugo have grown while he's been gone. Shane and Toadie congratulate Mark on becoming a detective, but Nell's more concerned about Mark taking her to the park. Kyle sidles over to say hello with Ned in tow and the mood takes a strained turn. Tail between his legs, Ned offers Toadie a proper apology for dragging him into the Zenin mess. Toadie reminds Ned that he put his family in danger and Ned says he wasn't thinking about the consequences. Mark and Shane are like, 'wow, shocker'.
TOADIE: Well I'm not happy, and I won't forget. But I accept your apology.
SHANE: Whatever you've got to say to me you can save it. I don't want to hear your apologies or your excuses. I just want you out of my daughter's life.
NED: I was trying to do the right thing.
MARK: You always are.
SHANE: And you drag people down with you. My daughter included.
KYLE: Ned knows he stuffed up; let's not pile it on.
NED: It's all right, mate. Not a lot more to be said here.
Lassiters Office
Chloe has another surprise awaiting when Paul brings Lucy into the office. Chloe glances at Pierce, then says she had no idea Lucy was coming. Lucy replies she thought she'd been CC'd in to all the correspondence. Paul smugly says Chloe must have skipped the "how to read your emails module of that very expensive management course" they sent her on. The atmosphere is quite awkward.
The Waterhole
Terese tells Toadie and Kyle she thinks it would be a good idea to get a police officer in to chat to the Buddy Club kids. Toadie thinks it might be confronting for them, but Terese says it's all the more reason to do it. If they keep it low-key and fun then it will help them break down barriers. Kyle admits it would be great if the kids felt more comfortable around coppers. Across the bar, Shane tells Yashvi that he had words with Ned earlier.
YASHVI: Dad I just took down a gun-smuggling ring, I don't need help with my boyfriend.
SHANE: I've got no doubt you can hold your own. But when it comes to Ned your judgement's a bit off.
YASHVI: Shock revelation, you don't like him.
SHANE: Well he doesn't give me a lot of reason to. But if you want to continue to go out with him that's up to you.
YASHVI: Okay.
SHANE: Just do one thing for me. Because after today we both know the sky's the limit for you.
YASHVI: I hope so.
SHANE: When you're thinking about the future I want you to be totally honest with yourself. Is Ned really the man you want standing by your side?
Yashvi points out that her dad didn't mind when they got back together, but Shane reveals that he didn't want to say anything back then. He wanted her to see it for herself. And he thinks now she might have.
SHANE: If Ned's going to help you to get where you want to go, then all power to you. But if he's not, maybe it's time to think about cutting your losses.
Lassiters Office
Chloe tells Lucy that if she'd known she was coming she would have had more prepared to show her. Paul says he emailed Chloe two days ago. Chloe starts to say that Paul's been flooding her emails lately, but decides against it. Pierce reminds her she has hard copies of her work printed out. Chloe finds them and tries to remain jovial as she explains more about the wedding expo to Lucy. But Lucy's concerned when Chloe says she doesn't have a plan B if Princess Mary's dress falls through.
CHLOE: Pretty confident I won't need one.
LUCY: You always need a plan B. Look, I know you're working really hard to make this a success, but you can't let your day-to-day operations slide.
CHLOE: I'm not.
LUCY: (sighing) I know for a fact there is a plumbing problem in one of the rooms on the fifth floor, and I've been in the hotel less than half an hour.
Chloe says she'll get onto it ASAP, but then has to answer Lucy's questions about target reports. Lucy's unimpressed Chloe hasn't finished them but Pierce says he's seen them and they're almost done. Lucy says they're heading to Ramsay Street to say hello to everyone - that should give Chloe enough time to catch up.
Harold's Café
Yashvi tells Ned she wishes she could've told him about the undercover operation, but that's the reality of the job she wants to do. She then says that everyone is telling her to dump him, which is a blow to the heart for Ned.
YASHVI: They say I can't be a cop if my boyfriend keeps on getting in trouble with the law.
NED: What do you think?
YASHVI: It's a problem. I know you get into these messes because you act with your heart and you think you're doing the right thing. But if we're going to stay together, I can't keep calling in favours for you. And I have to keep stuff from you and you can't keep playing the superhero. But I want to make this work.
NED: Even though everyone else disagrees?
YASHVI: Well that's kind of up to you to prove them wrong.
Ned says he will and shares a kiss with Yashvi.
Number 24
Hendrix cuddles Clementine and says she should live here with him seeing as Harlow doesn't deserve her. He thinks he and the cat are on the same level, "hard to get to know but worth it in the end." Hendrix says that Clementine is the only good thing about living on Ramsay Street. He sets her down on the bench to eat while he ducks out the back to get the present he bought her. Meanwhile, Mark walks out after his shower and is disgusted to see the animal on the bench. He picks her up and puts her outside.
Number 22
Paul takes Lucy to see David, Aaron and Harlow. She hugs David and tells him that Leo said to say hi to everyone, but especially his brother. Lucy can't believe how different the twins are but David teases that he's the "smart, good-looking one. But I already know he said the same thing." Aaron and Lucy share a hug and she talks up her two Mardi Gras stars, causing David alarm when she mentions they're having a big viewing party at The Waterhole on the night. Then it's Harlow's turn for a hug.
LUCY: How is it even possible I'm old enough to have a great-niece?
HARLOW: Well, you are the youngest.
LUCY: Oh I like you even more now! Paul told me you decided to study psychology.
HARLOW: Yeah!
TERESE: And I think we're all hoping that she doesn't find too much material under this roof.
They all chuckle. Paul takes Harlow, David and Aaron into the kitchen leaving Lucy and Terese to talk. Terese hopes everything won't be awkward between them, but Lucy says she doesn't want that either. She shows Terese photos of her daughter Annie.
TERESE: Oh she's adorable! And Chris is looking well.
LUCY: Yeah he's got a new boyfriend now so he's been hitting the gym big time. I barely see him anymore.
Terese then talks about the wedding expo and how Chloe's been pouring her everything into it, but Lucy doesn't look convinced.
LUCY: She's been trying hard that's for sure. But I'm just a bit worried that she may be neglecting some of her hotel duties.
TERESE: No, no, Chloe's capable. Just try not to underestimate her.
Lassiters Office
Chloe freaks out when the computer program she's using freezes up. Pierce tries to fix it for her while she vents about Paul deliberately setting her up. She says he was incredibly shady sending her a gazillion emails all at once. Pierce reminds her that success is the best revenge. Chloe nods but then can't help asking what the second best revenge is. Pierce gives her another pep talk, though, and Chloe attempts to get herself back on track to succeed.
Ramsay Street
Harlow and Terese are in the car so Harlow can have a driving lesson.
HARLOW: It was really lovely to meet Lucy.
TERESE: Yeah, I wasn't sure how it was going to go but I'm glad we've cleared the air.
Terese tells Harlow to check the mirrors before she reverses. Hendrix walks out of #24 calling for Clementine. He sees her on #22's nature strip before she darts into the driveway and he chases after her. Harlow has no idea the cat is there and sneezes while she's reversing - in that second of her eyes being closed she accidentally runs over something. A mortified Hendrix sees what happened and yells at Harlow, but Harlow is in shock at her contribution to Clementine's demise.
