Lassiter's Complex
Toadie is waiting for an explanation from Ian and Andrea, for Ian having turned up and for their argument.
ANDREA: Ian's in town selling his crystals, aren't ya?
IAN: Yeah.
ANDREA: Just thought he'd check in and see how the whole Karen search was going. Just ran into each other.
TOADIE: What's going on?
IAN: ... Err, we just had a slight difference of opinion.
TOADIE: About what?
ANDREA: Well, I just thought he shouldn't just show up. You're not looking for Dee anymore; I didn't think you'd appreciate seeing him.
IAN: Yeah. Andrea said you wanted to put it behind you, so...
TOADIE: I can decide who I speak to.
ANDREA: Yeah, sorry.
TOADIE (to Ian): Well, thank you very much for looking me up. But like Andrea said, I don't really want to get into it any more.
IAN: Yeah. No worries.
ANDREA (to Ian): You got a long drive, so we shouldn't hold you up.
Ian makes his exit. Andrea laughs nervously, but Toadie isn't amused. Heather, meanwhile, is lurking behind some foliage nearby...
Lassiter's
Terese finds Paul at reception, and asks if he has time for a coffee.
PAUL: Oh, thirsty, are you? Perhaps you should spend less time dancing the night away (!)
TERESE: Oh, please. Don't buy into Roxy's overreaction. It was just a dance. In the middle of The Waterhole, no less. Unless you don't believe me.
PAUL: It's just more salt in the wound, Terese. And I can't help thinking, what else am I going to find?
TERESE: Nothing - nothing, I can assure you of that. Look, if you just move back in, we can start putting this behind us.
PAUL: ... No, I can't. Not yet.
But he says he'll be free for coffee in a couple of hours.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Andrea and Ian have reconvened in her room.
IAN: Look, I'm sorry things got a bit intense.
ANDREA: Oh, a bit? A *bit*?!
IAN: But look, I'll take you out to dinner later, and make it up to you.
ANDREA: Ian -
IAN: Hey, this Lanzini's place looks pretty romantic!
ANDREA: Ian, I can't have dinner with you!
IAN: Oh, alright. We can get straight to dessert if you'd rather!
He throws himself on the bed in a seductive pose!
ANDREA: I can't do... that either! You nearly ruined everything!
IAN: Uh, you're being a bit dramatic.
ANDREA: Oh, you think so?! Toadie is not happy with me after that.
IAN: Oh, he didn't seem that put out.
ANDREA: Trust me - he's holding back, okay? He is not impressed.
Realising that shouting at Ian isn't going to help, Andrea sits by him on the bed and puts on her vulnerable voice, while stroking Ian's leg.
ANDREA: How's he ever gonna trust me with Hugo if he thinks I'm some... interfering busybody?
IAN: Well, you can just apologise, and then join me tonight for a nice... dinner.
They get very close and almost kiss, but Andrea pulls away, saying she can't and that Ian has to go home; she can't risk being seen with him again. However, she lays it on thick, assuring that they'll see each other again soon. He grabs her.
IAN: Okay. Well, if you keep putting me off, I might as well tell Toadie everything.
ANDREA: If you do that, then we're never gonna get together, are we?
She turns on the charm again and starts licking his hands!
ANDREA: Trust me. Just wait till I get access to Hugo, and I'll come to Hepburn Springs, and we can explore this thing, huh? I promise.
Ian seems placated by this for now, but says he'll be waiting. He kisses her on the forehead, then leaves. Disgusted, she wipes her forehead and starts wiping her tongue clean on her maid outfit!
Back Lane Bar
Roxy is having coffee and cola to pep herself up. Leo notices she's in yesterday's clothes, and correctly guesses she's been out all night.
ROXY: I crashed somewhere rando.
LEO: Right, well you look wrecked. Go home.
ROXY: What, back to Auntie T's skank den? No thanks.
LEO: Do you always have to be this overdramatic?
ROXY: She tried to steal my boyfriend!
Leo insists that Terese is committed to Paul, but Roxy isn't convinced.
ROXY: She's always on the hunt for her next meal. You need to wake up and smell the swinging she-beast.
Roxy says she'll prove to Leo and everyone else that that's who Terese is.
The Waterhole
Toadie is working on his laptop. He looks surprised by whatever he's looking at, but is interrupted by Andrea's arrival, and closes it.
ANDREA: Ian. I feel like I might've stuck my nose in. I should've just let you deal with it.
TOADIE: Yeah, you should've. Next time, eh?
Mark turns up. He has news for them both about Heather.
ANDREA: Has she been seen?
MARK: No. No new sightings; looks like she's gone to ground. Wherever she is, we're determined to find her - which is why we're ramping up the search.
ANDREA: Great. So what are you gonna do?
MARK: I'm gonna focus on heightening public awareness. The more people out there who know what she looks like, the better our chances are.
A worried Andrea tries to look enthusiastic.
Harold's Café
Terese and Paul are having an awkward coffee in Harold's, when Leo comes in, and tells them that Roxy is 'on a crusade' to bring Terese down, because she thinks she tried to steal Vance. Terese assures him that's not the case, but Leo says it's affecting the bar; Roxy is serving herself over paying customers. Terese decides it's time to go and track Roxy down.
Leo joins Paul at the table. He says he's heard Paul has been sleeping at the hotel, and asks if he shares Roxy's fears about Terese and Vance. Paul insists not; he's just been staying there for convenience. Leo looks sceptical.
PAUL: Leo, I have complete faith in Terese.
LEO: Good. Cos you and I both know how adamant she was that you're The One™. She wouldn't throw that away for some twenty-year-old memory.
The History Wall
Heather is looking at her phone as she walks along; she has a missed call and messages from Andrea. She's not looking where she's going, and collides with Kyle coming in the opposite direction. Luckily for her, they haven't met before and so he doesn't recognise her. But her phone screen gets smashed in the collision.
Kyle apologises, and offers to pay for it to be repaired, but Heather says it's an old phone and tries to get rid of him, so as not to attract attention. At that moment, however, Terese appears. Heather panics and begins to rush off, bumping into Kyle again.
HEATHER: Move, Muscles!

She skulks behind some bushes, waiting for Terese - who hasn't noticed her - to pass, while Kyle looks mystified.
The Waterhole
Mark is telling Toadie more about the plans to catch Heather; if no-one comes forward soon, they'll offer a reward for information as an incentive. The police have also provided posters of Heather to the press; Mark assures Toadie that sooner or later, someone will recognise her.
Kyle has turned up during this conversation, and asks who they're talking about. Mark explains they're broadening the search for Heather and that wanted posters are going up across central Melbourne.
KYLE: Good. From what I've heard about her, she needs to be found and locked up.
TOADIE: Yeah, for as long as possible. The poison that she fed Sonya not only landed her in hospital, it masked the early symptoms of her cancer...
Toadie gets emotional, and Mark comforts him.
TOADIE: ... so if Heather never came into our lives...
MARK: Hey, hey - mate, it's okay. We'll find her.
KYLE: Yeah, mate, she can't stay hidden forever.
No 22
Terese is surprised to find Paul at home when she comes in; he explains he's come to find out whether Terese has found Roxy.
TERESE: I even checked that greasy chicken shop she likes. Not there.
PAUL: What about the curly fries joint?
TERESE: Not there either.
Paul offers to help Terese search, saying it will help Leo. Terese is worried Roxy will end up in trouble with the police...
TERESE: ... or on a biker's hog with seven new tattoos.
They head out onto the patio - at which moment Roxy sneaks in through the front door. Outside, Terese thanks Paul for being here; he says he's choosing to believe her about Vance.
TERESE: I love you so much, Paul.
He nods, but still doesn't look altogether convinced.
Meanwhile, indoors, Roxy sneaks through the living room, and starts searching the chest of drawers by the door. Outside, Paul suggests they get takeaway tonight and veg on the couch; Terese is pleased to hear he's not staying at the hotel again.
PAUL: If Roxy does show up, I want to be here for you.
Roxy is now searching Terese's briefcase, and finds something - the photo of Terese and Vance from when they were young. Roxy storms out onto the patio and confronts Terese with the photo, declaring her a 'slag-a-saurus rex'! Paul is disconcerted all over again, and waits for Terese's explanation.
Geelong
Heather arrives back at the apartment, to find Andrea waiting for her.
ANDREA: Where have you been? I specifically asked you not to leave the apartment.
HEATHER: Yeah, I... didn't go far.
ANDREA: Yeah, I've been calling. And calling, and calling, and calling.
HEATHER: My phone isn't working. Some moron crashed into it and broke it.
ANDREA: (...) You do realise the police are ramping up their search effort for you? I mean, what if they recognised you?
HEATHER: But they haven't.
ANDREA: Yeah, not that you know of. What was so important you had to leave the apartment for, anyway?
HEATHER: I, umm... had to go to the chemist for moisturiser (...) They sold out (...) I'll be a good girl from now on, I promise.
ANDREA: Yeah, you'd better be. I do not have the energy to keep an eye on you and do my job at the same time.
HEATHER: At least you look hot in that uniform. I reckon you could undo a few more buttons - give the guests a bit of a thrill.
ANDREA: Hang on, how do you know what I look like?
HEATHER: I - I can imagine.
ANDREA: Oh, Mum - you've been to Erinsborough, haven't you?
Heather becomes emotional.
HEATHER: Alright, you've got me. But you can't blame me for wanting to see my family! You and Jarrod and Hugo!
ANDREA: You can't go there, Mum!! What if they see you? What if they know where you've been staying?!
HEATHER (tearful): Stop nagging me! You're treating me like a dead weight!
ANDREA: Because that's what you are!
Heather sobs.
No 22
On the patio, Terese insists to Paul and Roxy that she was never trying to get back with Vance. She says she found the photo in a box of mementos long before Vance turned up.
TERESE: There was just all this talk about the Territory... it made me nostalgic.
ROXY: If it's all so innocent, why keep it in your work stuff?
TERESE: .... I dunno. I was just - it was just there, that's all.
ROXY: Yeah, for you to plant a big wet one on whenever you get the tingles!
TERESE: Oh, come on, Roxy! (...) Do you honestly think I'd do that to you? You're my niece!
ROXY: All I can think is that photo proves that you're a man-hungry snake!
Roxy says there's no way she can keep living with Terese - and that Paul shouldn't, either. She storms out. Paul looks unimpressed.
Geelong
Heather sulks on the bed while Andrea cleans the apartment.
HEATHER: Let me know if I'm breathing too loudly (!)
ANDREA: I'm sorry you're stuck here, Mum, okay? It's not fair. You took care of Hugo when I couldn't. You tried to make things happen with Toadie. You're a great mm, okay? But now it's just time to step back.
HEATHER: Well, it doesn't mean I have to sit here and do nothing.
ANDREA: That's exactly what it means, I'm afraid. Especially when everyone's so desperate to find you.
Andrea sniff-checks her armpit!
ANDREA: I'm just worried it's going to take months, you know - maybe even years - before Toadie will fall in love with me again. And I swear, if he finds out we've been in contact... (explosion noise)... it'll never happen.
HEATHER: Well, it just sounds like it'd be better if I went away for good!
ANDREA: Oh, you know that's not what I mean, Mum. Look, if I can get Toadie to - *when* I get Toadie to fall in love with me, I'll just convince him to give you a second chance. He's very forgiving.
HEATHER: Alright. Well, if you think you can manage without me, I'll leave you to work your magic on the ground.
ANDREA: Thank you.
HEATHER: And... I can deal with things elsewhere. I'll help you get rid of that incredibly annoying clinger, Ian.
ANDREA: What? Have you even been listening to me, Mum? You have no part in this anymore, right? You just need to accept it.
HEATHER: Yeah, yes, yes, alright.
Heather is keen for them to spend the evening together, but Andrea tells Heather to do the laundry while she goes back to Erinsborough.
ANDREA: I need to spend as much time there as possible.
HEATHER: Oh, really? Bet you're going to the pub - haven't been there for a few hours!
ANDREA: Maybe I will. At least I can control who I hit on when I've had a few.
HEATHER: Well, all I'm saying is, Toadie doesn't appreciate a boozehound... Although, he did marry Sonya.
ANDREA: It's too soon, Mum (...) Look, I don't like this any more than you do, right? But I'm getting it fixed, I promise.
HEATHER: Alright, pumpkin.
But while Andrea's in the bathroom putting on some make-up, Heather accesses her phone and copies down Ian's phone number...
The Waterhole
Toadie is picking up some takeaway, when Andrea comes in. She offers to help him carry it back, but Toadie is cold with her, saying he'd rather she didn't.
TOADIE: This search for Heather is messing with my head.
ANDREA: I know. That's why I'm trying to help you find her.
TOADIE: But she's still out there.
ANDREA: ... I will never forgive myself for what that woman did to you. To your family. But I need you to see that I'm not her. I never could be. You know, all the things I've remembered - what she did to me?
TOADIE: Okay. I'm sorry for what you went through - I genuinely am. But the connection is too much for me.
He walks out. Andrea shouts after him that she understands, but he keeps going. She looks upset, and thumps the bar in frustration.
Back Lane Bar
Leo is working, when Roxy turns up with an overnight bag; she announces she's staying in the office tonight. Leo reminds her it's against the terms of their liquor licence, but Roxy says she can't go back to Auntie T's, and that she doesn't have enough money to pay for accommodation anywhere else. Leo encourages her to put Vance behind her and start earning money here, like him.
LEO: I spent a lot of time thinking Terese screwed me over. And yeah, it hurts... Why don't you stay with me? Look, David and Aaron are in Japan; I'm sure they won't care if you take their room.
Roxy is thrilled, and says it'll be perfect.
ROXY: We'll be working together, living together...
As she talks, her voice fades out as we home in on Leo, already regretting his decision!
No 30
It's late when there's a knock at the door, and Toadie opens it to find Andrea. She's come on the pretext of bringing Hugo a toy she's bought. Toadie promises to give it to him.
ANDREA: While I'm here, I could just pop in -
TOADIE: No, we've already talked about this, okay? You should not be here; this is just too much for me.
ANDREA: I know. Cos of my mum. And that's actually why I came over. I just wanted to let you know that I've booked in with that doctor, that Karl recommended. Turns out, she does hypnotherapy (...) If I can remember something that helps lead you to Mum...
TOADIE: Like what, exactly?
ANDREA: Oh, I dunno. Could be something buried in my childhood. Or, you know, from when she was visiting me when I had the post-natal psychosis. You know, there's a lot of time there that I still don't remember.
TOADIE: Or it could just bring up more trauma.
ANDREA: ... Yeah. Look, I'm not gonna lie - I'm scared. But, anything I can do to help lead to you to Mum (...)
TOADIE: I want to come with you.
ANDREA: Yeah, that'd be great. I'd love it if I didn't have to go alone.
TOADIE: Yeah. Anything you could remember about Heather... I'd really appreciate it.
Andrea leaves, looking smugly pleased with herself as she goes.
No 22
Terese and Paul are both home, but in separate rooms as they talk to each other - Paul in the living room, Terese setting up for dinner next door.
TERESE: Are you still thinking about the photo?
PAUL: ...
TERESE: I keep reassuring you that it's nothing. I don't know what more I can say.
PAUL: I don't know if there's anything you can.
Terese goes next door to join him.
PAUL: It's just... every time I begin to think it's okay, something else comes up. The dance, the photo...
TERESE: Paul, they mean nothing.
PAUL: Yeah, and I do believe that.
TERESE: But you're still struggling.
PAUL: I just can't stop thinking about you being with him. It's pretty hard to get out of my head.
TERESE: Well, I guess I can understand that.
PAUL: I've loved you for years. And I guess I never counted on you loving me back. In some ways I still don't.
TERESE: What you feel, I feel too - just as deeply. You need to understand that!
PAUL: Oh, I wish I could.
Terese has an idea, and gets on one knee.
TERESE: How about this? ... Paul Robinson, will you marry me?
