Previously
- Bea walking out on her gig after seeing Finn.
- Elly trying to reassure Bea about her music.
- Finn finding a video of Bea singing at Christmas online.
- Chloe handing over her credit card to Aaron after he thinks she is debt.
- Paul reminding Chloe to keep to her task.
- Kyle interested in being a tenant at #32.
- Chloe pointing out to Terese that with Paul being an Alpha Male, she will always be #2.
- Terese wanting Paul to move into #22 and if he doesn't, she can't see their relationship working.
Number 22
Paul isn't too impressed at Terese giving him an ultimatum to move in with her. He at least wants to talk it through with her, and counters by suggesting she moves in with him. Terese rules that out as them being in the ivory tower "looking down on everyone else."
TERESE: Up there, you're a boss not a person.
PAUL: The penthouse is important to me, I do a lot of business there.
She points out that any of those meetings could be conducted elsewhere in the hotel. As a compromise, he isn't immediately saying no, just wants to think about it rather than rush into something either might regret.
Hospital
Susan calls past to check on Finn after what happened with Bea. He is very apologetic for what happened and wonders if Bea will see him as anyone but the person who did horrid things to her? "I don't know," is Susan's honest reply back.
Ramsay Street (next day)
Kyle takes his meagre possessions out of the car, ready to move into #32. Gary (and Amy) hear about his plans when they stop after leaving #26 and both are happy that he is moving into the street. When they head off, Kyle makes it very clear to David (who is helping him with is belongings) that its ancient history between himself and Amy.
Number 32
After a brief introduction to Chloe, Kyle wastes no time in using his new digs' facilities - the swimming pool! Aaron sees the look in his sisters' eyes and makes it clear that there is to be "no housemate hook-ups" it's the last thing the house needs! Chloe makes it clear she isn't interested although it's not stopping Aaron from re-laying down the law to her!
"Was that really necessary," David asks after Chloe heads inside to get ready for work. Aaron's definitely thinks it was worth saying and explains why - if Chloe hooks up with Kyle and things end up like they did with Elly, then their house isn't going to be very happy!
Number 28
Susan is looking at her victim impact statement when Bea surfaces. The lass wonders if Susan plans on changing it but her aunt admits that she is "still working out how I feel." Susan tells her about visiting Finn the previous night and how running into Bea affected him. "Am I supposed to feel sorry for him?!" an angry Bea replies, which Susan immediately says "no" to but adds that she somehow needs to "let go of this anger."
BEA: I'll let go of the anger when he goes to jail. Actually, you know what, you can change your statement to whatever you want, because it's not going to make a difference. Every word I say, and every bit of evidence is going to send Finn Kelly to jail for the rest of his life. He is not going to get away with this.
Police Forensics Department
Someone, face unseen and dressed all in black, locates the box file with the evidence in it against Finn. Said mystery person puts some paper into a wastebin (it's not clear if it's the paperwork from Finn's box) and adds a lit match into it. Second later it's up in flames and we hear the smoke detector going off.
Terese's office
"Piper would be proud of you," Chloe states after Terese tells her about the ultimatum that she gave Paul. Terese though is unsure how much thinking time Paul needs although does acknowledge that it's a big decision for him. However, she is also concerned though that Paul is hiding something from her but isn't sure if its Robinson Pines, Gary/Amy/Kyle or something else given she isn't in on a lot of his meetings, especially those that take place in the penthouse. Chloe seems to have suddenly lost her voice, and looks like she'd rather be elsewhere too, before hesitantly agreeing to Terese's request of keeping an eye on Paul for her.
Penthouse suite
Since Kyle seems to know the tradies working on the development, Amy and Kyle want to cut the handover period from a couple of weeks to a couple of days. Paul however vetoes their plans to ensure it is done properly, in case mistakes are made further down the line.
"You're in a mood," Amy comments to her dad after Kyle heads off (they plan to meet up later in the day). He explains to her why (Terese wanting him to move in) and why he doesn't want to move out of the penthouse too (the place means too much to him). One of those other reasons he gives is it that would leave Amy alone in the penthouse, but her reply is she will move back in with Gary.
Lassiters brasserie
Chloe finds someone to unload her woes onto - Kyle, when he spots her sitting outside the brasserie. She explains her dilemma - she is being pulled in opposite directions by Paul and Terese.
KYLE: Rule of thumb with Paul, put yourself first and do what's right for you, you can't go wrong.
Kyle heads home for a swim and Aaron wonders what she said to him after seeing Kyle leave. "I asked if he wanted to make out," Chloe replies to wind her brother up! "Are you serious Chlo?!!!" he asks, and she quickly puts him out of his misery by saying "no" but said it as she knew how he'd react. Aaron repeats what he said to David earlier to his sister.
CHLOE: Would you listen to yourself! First you think I'm dating for money, now you've got me in bed with my new housemate. Since when did you turn into Mark times 50!
Harold's Café
"I guess you've got to be prepared either way," is Susan's advice to Terese after they chat about her ultimatum to Paul. "You think I've made a mistake?" Terese asks and Susan points out that "ultimatums don't leave a lot of room to move" and adds that if Paul says no, she has to follow through.
TERESE: Otherwise it's an empty threat.
SUSAN: Yes, and he'll have the upper hand again.
Susan reminds her what Paul went through to get the penthouse back, after going bankrupt, and suggests perhaps that Paul sees it as being part of his identity and Terese wants him to give it up for her. She does add though that Terese shouldn't let Paul win, perhaps there "is some room for compromise?"
Number 28
Bea is venting her anger to Ned about Susan's behaviour towards Finn, fearful that he will fight the charges he is up against. Ned reminds her of the evidence that they have against Finn.
Susan arrives home and admits to her niece she doesn't like the tense atmosphere between them either. She wants Bea to read Finn's letter to his mum, to help make her more informed and show that what happened in Columbia "fundamentally changed him." "So, he says," is Ned's take on it and Susan admits she can't make Bea read the letter, but if she does, asks that Bea then comes and talks to her.
SUSAN: I just want you to try and consider all perspectives.
(Later)
Bea paces around trying to ignore the letter Susan placed on the countertop.
Handy Woman
Ned is avoiding Bea to give her some space so has wondered down to the yard to find Yashvi is feeling down as nobody wants to party for her forthcoming 18th.
Number 28
The pacing is over, Bea takes the letter and goes to sit on the sofa and read what it says.
Hand Woman
Ned tells Yashvi that he fears Bea will get sucked in like before if she reads the letter. The lass tries to reassure him that Bea knows what he is like and won't let that happen to her. "He's already done it to Susan," Ned points out adding that she doesn't have the same connections that Bea had with him.
Number 28
We hear Finn's voice as she reads the letter - apparently it was written two days after the ransom was paid to free Shaun and he is begging that his mum does the same for him.
FINN: The things they do, every day, its torture! I'm scared.
He continues by saying he doesn't know how much more he can take but promises, if he gets out, to be the perfect son.
FINN: I'll do whatever it takes. All I need is a second chance. I love you mum, please help me. I don't want to die here.
Penthouse suite
Paul thinks Chloe is round to get further instructions for meeting Max but instead she informs him that "she can't do this anymore" because things are snowballing. "It's nothing I can't handle," he tries to reassure her with, but Chloe's reply is her lying to Terese. He is curious to know what she has said to Terese and her reply is that Terese thinks he is up to something, so played dumb to cover up. "Its only a matter of time before she figures it out," Chloe warns but he reassures her that its only them that knows what she is doing with Max, so Terese won't find out. Whatever it is that is happening with Max, Chloe almost has him over the line and Paul will make doubly sure that Terese doesn't find out.
PAUL: I cannot do this without you.
CHLOE: As long as you don't forget that.
In the meantime, she asks Paul to sort out his living arrangements with Terese to stop the questions happening.
The Waterhole
Gary and Amy finally decide how they will celebrate their engagement - by having a street barbecue so that everyone helps tidy up!
Terese comes over to congratulate them and taking inspiration on how well Piper is doing with Tyler, is glad to see that they are being very positive too and together make a good team.
Number 28
"It's still no excuse for what he's done," Bea comments to her aunt after they discuss Finn's letter. Susan gets that, but asks if she gets that the letter explains it? "Maybe," a puzzled Bea replies before adding that "a survivor shouldn't turn into what Finn turned into."
SUSAN: He hates himself for the things that he did during those years that he can't remember.
BEA: Being sorry doesn't take it away. We all still went through it. He still did it and he deserves to be punished.
Bea apologises if that sounds harsh, but Susan is quick to reassure her she's got nothing to apologise for.
SUSAN: You've got to make up your own mind.
BEA: Yes, and I have.
SUSAN: I just wanted you to understand what he'd been through. How you feel about it is your choice.
Terese's office
Paul arrives with a peace offering for Terese - coffee! "We're not at war Paul," she remarks as she takes his offering. He admits that he was defensive about her offer last night and that they didn't get a chance to talk about it either. She gets what the penthouse means to him and wasn't trying to take it away. Equally, Paul can see where she was coming from too and adds that he is up for negotiation over the living arrangements.
TERESE: I wouldn't expect anything less! So, my offer still stands.
Paul thinks moving straight in might rush things, so suggests initially spending 2 nights a week at #22 to see how that goes. Terese counters with 3 nights including dinner with the family.
TERESE: Deal.
PAUL: Deal.
After a kiss to seal the deal, Terese admits to him that she did think he was hiding something from her. Paul chooses not to say anything to that!
Number 32
Aaron apologies to his sister for being a bit too full on earlier, he's still feeling responsible about the whole Elly thing and how messy that turned out. She reassures him he's nothing to worry about but does like it that he cares for her.
Kyle appears in his bathers, ready for another trip to the pool, happy to hear Chloe spoke up to deal with her work issue after their earlier chat.
Aaron can't believe that Chloe plans on joining Kyle in the pool, he thought that's what they just sorted out. "I said you don't have to worry about me," she reminds him with!
AARON: For the record, I still have an issue with housemate hook-ups!
Number 28
After discussing the song Bea has just written, Ned admits that he wasn't sure what way she was going to go do after reading Finn's letter, but is glad she "stuck to your guns."
NED: That guy deserves whatever he gets.
BEA: I can't wait to be in that courtroom when the judge sends him to jail.
Just at that, Susan comes into the livingroom having a conversation on her phone. When she hangs up, she explains to them that it was the Public Prosecutor on the phone - there was a fire at the police forensics department earlier and all the physical evidence in storage regarding Finn's case was destroyed.
SUSAN: The prosecution's case is completely gutted.
BEA: Does this mean that Finn's going to walk free?
