Backpackers
Leo's stunned to see Mannix alive and well. He shoves the unrepentant criminal up against the fence and growls that he's coming back with him.
The Penthouse
Paul is still trying to find out from Delaney who Leo was meeting when Leo suddenly bursts in with Mannix, shocking the life out of Paul. Delaney immediately starts to cry, especially when Paul and Leo get angry with her and demand to know what's going on.
MANNIX: After you dumped me in a bush I made my way to a phone box. She was the only person I could think of to call.
DELANEY: I came and picked him up and we stayed in a motel until he recovered. I helped him out with some money.
LEO: Where have you been this whole time?
MANNIX: Indonesia.
DELANEY: And I was in Majorca with my mum. We kept in touch.
PAUL: Hang on, you told me that that recording was made eighteen months ago?
DELANEY: Leo I told you how I felt about you and you rejected me! And then I realised that I had to step up my game!
PAUL: So the recording was recent?
MANNIX: She called for my help. I owed her. So I said what she needed me to say.
PAUL: You gave me coordinates for a grave. I dug up a body! Now if it wasn't yours, who was it?
DELANEY: It was an associate's of my father's. They had a falling out.
LEO: You played us!
DELANEY: I was going to make it good!
LEO: (yelling) What? When you ratted me out to your dad?
MANNIX: She didn't tell Raymond, I did! And if your girlfriend hadn't have got in the way, you would have been dead!
Leo lunges at Mannix and tries to rough him up but Paul grabs Leo and drags him off. Paul and Leo are both flabbergasted and appalled at everything they've just heard.
Erinsborough Hospital
Piper is relieved to see Terese awake and responsive after her surgery. Karl pops in to check on the patient and says while things appear good, there may be some mobility issues, so they'll keep her in a few days for observation. Terese is surprised to hear from Karl that Paul paid to fly the specialist in and adds that he's been calling to check on her. Terese gives her blessing for Karl to give Paul an update. On the premise of getting a coffee, Piper ducks out of the room to have a quiet chat with Karl.
PIPER: When mum was coming out of anaesthetic she said some really weird stuff. Is that normal?
KARL: (chuckling) I've heard some very strange things come out of people's mouths in recovery. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
Piper mulls on this but then her interest is piqued further when Karl lets slip that Paul and Jane have broken up.
Garage
Ned drops by to visit Bea, delivering a coffee he bought from Eden Hills since Harold's is closed and Bea doesn't like the Grease Monkeys dregs. Bea's a little rattled after everything that happened with Elly yesterday, but it's Ned's turn to be tense when Bea gets a text from Shaun.
NED: You guys are talking? You were so against Susan having anything to do with him.
BEA: Yeah I still am.
NED: So why are you in touch?
BEA: I decided I want to meet him.
NED: No.
BEA: Excuse me?
NED: No, it's a bad idea!
BEA: I can stand up for myself. What? You don't think I can?
NED: No it's just, this guy, he's a loose cannon.
Bea reminds Ned that they agreed she'd be able to handle things her own way. Ned can't help but have reservations but Bea says she's meeting Shaun, end of story.
The Penthouse
Leo angrily reminds Mannix that an innocent woman got shot because of him ratting Leo out, but Mannix just wanted to save his own skin. Paul glares at Delaney.
PAUL: This one wanted me to take the wrap for a non-existent murder.
DELANEY: Yeah, well, we've all done bad things haven't we?
Understatement of the century, blondie! Mannix tries his luck at bribing the men, saying that he could still go to the cops and say Paul left him for dead. But Paul's having no more of his garbage and shouts at Mannix to get out. Paul then turns to Delaney and icily says she'd better leave too. Delaney tearfully stammers that she never meant for anyone to get hurt, which riles up Leo.
LEO: Maybe you didn't tell your dad about me, but you've caused so much pain and mess!
DELANEY: I know and I'm so sorry. (She turns to Paul) And to you too. I was stupid...
PAUL: No! I don't care! You get out of my sight and don't you ever come back.
Delaney slinks out to the elevator with Leo and Paul watching her go.
Erinsborough Hospital
David's stunned to find none other than Mannix lurking in the hospital waiting for him. He asks if Paul and Leo know he's there and is confused when Mannix makes a reference about them being shocked to see "a dead man walking". The last David heard, Paul had taken Mannix to a regional hospital for treatment. Mannix stuns David when he tells him the real sordid tale of being left for dead with no meds.
DAVID: What do you want from me?
MANNIX: An off-the-record prescription. You've done it before.
DAVID: I only did that to save your life. I'm not doing it again!
MANNIX: Then I want money.
DAVID: I'm not giving you anything. Excuse me...
MANNIX: (grabbing David's arm) Stealing painkillers from the hospital is pretty serious isn't it, Doc? If someone found out you'd probably lose your licence. Your career would be over.
Mannix smirks at poor David.
Over in Terese's room, Piper is trying to persuade her mum to rest up more before she speaks to the cops about anything. But Terese can tell Piper knows a lot more than what she's letting on and demands to know the truth.
PIPER: You know how I told you the guy behind the siege and the guy who shot you were partners? They were actually the Renshaw brothers.
TERESE: What, Delaney's dad and uncle?
PIPER: Yeah. Ivan Renshaw was aiming for Leo when you got shot.
TERESE: Revenge for informing on them to the police. Did Delaney have anything to do with it?
PIPER: I don't know.
TERESE: Well what did Paul and Leo say?
PIPER: To be honest I haven't asked them because I told them to stay away from you.
Terese says she appreciates the concern but she wants more answers. Piper offers to text Leo for her since she's only allowed one visitor at a time, but Terese says to get in touch with Paul first. She wants to thank him for arranging the specialist.
The Penthouse
Leo says Paul should call Jane and let her know what's happened but is surprised when he hears that Jane broke up with his dad. Leo thinks it's because of the Mannix stuff but Paul just says it doesn't matter anyway, "Jane and I weren't meant to be". Paul gets the text from Piper about visiting Terese and Leo wonders if she's been told about the Renshaws. Paul figures that Terese should hear the whole truth from him about everything.
Erinsborough Hospital
After hearing about the Renshaws, Delaney's blackmail and Mannix from Paul, Terese lays into him (and Leo) about deceiving her for weeks. Piper listens in the background.
TERESE: You upended my life, my emotions. You made decisions for me when you had no right to! I could have helped you if the two of you had been honest with me. But instead Leo devastated me! Look, of course I am grateful you arranged the specialist. But I wouldn't have needed one if it hadn't been for the two of you. Your recklessness was what got me shot in the first place!
Terese gets upset and Paul looks abashed.
PAUL: You're right about everything, and there's nothing I can say to excuse any of it. Terese I'm truly sorry. Anyway I'll go and let you rest, but before I do I need you to know Jane left me.
TERESE: ... Well I'm sorry to hear that. Although I don't know what it's got to do with anything I just said.
PAUL: The only reason I'm mentioning it is because it reminded me of how important it is to hold on to love. And that's why you should take Leo back. Forgive him. The only reason he broke up with you was to protect me, even though it was ripping him apart. Terese he never stopped loving you. You two should be together.
Terese looks a little stunned and emotional by his words and Paul takes his leave, telling her to get better soon.
Outside at the coffee cart, David's stress is getting the better of him as he spills his drink everywhere. He sees Paul emerge from the building and storms over to him.
DAVID: I don't know why you and Leo keep thinking it's okay to lie to me, but it stops now.
PAUL: What are you talking about?
DAVID: I just had a visit from Mannix. What the hell is going on?
Paul realises David also deserves to know the truth and leads his son into the hospital to tell him everything.
Back in Terese's room, Piper is proud of her mum for the way she dealt with Paul. She then asks what Terese thinks about getting back together with Leo.
TERESE: Well it's reassuring to know that he didn't leave me because he was in love with Delaney. My instincts about things not being right with her were spot on. But I can't ignore what he did. He lied to me. He didn't trust me, and if you don't have that in a relationship then what do you have?
PIPER: Do you think, maybe, you're unsure about Leo because you still have feelings for Paul?
TERESE: What? No! Why would you say that?
PIPER: I don't know. I mean historically he has always complicated things for you.
TERESE: The only person whose complicated things for me recently is Leo.
Piper then asks what Terese is going to tell Leo, but Terese doesn't know.
Shaun's Hotel Room
Ned knocks on the door and introduces himself as Bea's boyfriend, barely waiting for Shaun to invite him in so they can chat. Ned tells Shaun he has to leave Bea alone. Shaun's confused and assures Ned there's nothing to worry about; they're just going to talk about Finn.
NED: See that's the problem. You might believe that you're helping her understand him or something but really you're just easing your own guilt.
SHAUN: Bea reached out to me, not the other way around.
NED: Yeah because you're hanging around dredging this up for everyone.
SHAUN: I'm not trying to upset her.
NED: Talking to you isn't going to help, all right? It's over. Bea needs to move on.
SHAUN: Surely that's her decision?
Annoyed, Ned grabs Shaun by the scruff of the shirt and repeats that he's looking out for Bea so Shaun better stay away. Ned walks out leaving Shaun rattled.
Erinsborough Hospital
After listening to Paul, David is frustrated that he was kept in the dark about everything, even if it was under the guise of his own "protection". And now he's got Mannix to deal with as a result.
PAUL: I'll take care of it.
DAVID: You 'took care of it' last time and look where we are. Terese is upstairs in a hospital bed, our friends and neighbours were terrorised by a gun-wielding criminal!
Paul asks if his son's got a better solution. David says he called the police and told them Mannix was creeping around the place but they can't do anything unless Mannix commits a crime.
DAVID: I think I have to tell the hospital board about the drugs I stole for him the last time he was here.
PAUL: What? No, no!
DAVID: It's going to come out anyway. If he keeps lurking about the place isn't it better I confess than wait to be called?
PAUL: David if you do this, what I did will more than likely come out as well and I could be in very, very serious trouble for what I did to Mannix.
DAVID: If we're honest we have a chance to face the consequences and move on.
PAUL: (mulling it over) All right. I guess only you can decide what's right for you.
David looks weighed down by the thought of making a decision.
Lassiters Hotel
Leo pauses at the elevator when he sees Delaney about to get into a taxi, but decides to speak to her one last time. Leo says he understands they were hard on her before, but they weren't entirely blameless either.
DELANEY: Does that mean you don't hate me?
LEO: It means we both need to make better choices.
DELANEY: And in my case that's as far away from here as possible.
Leo reminds her she's safe now that her dad and uncle are back in prison, and suggests she find her mum again to make a fresh start. Delaney hugs him before getting into the cab.
Erinsborough Hospital
Piper watches from outside her mum's room as Leo sits by Terese's bedside and pours his heart out about the past few weeks.
LEO: I never, ever wanted to break up with you. I thought I had no choice.
TERESE: I'm trying to understand that.
LEO: I was just trying to protect everyone, but instead you got injured by a bullet that was meant for me.
TERESE: Please let's not go over that again.
Leo takes Terese's hand in his as his eyes well with tears.
LEO: I love you, Terese. I've never stopped loving you. And I know I don't have the right to ask for forgiveness, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive myself, but if you do ever think there could be another chance for us...
TERESE: Your father gave us his blessing.
LEO: But what about you? Do you think you can ever move past this?
TERESE: ... I don't know what to think. I love you, Leo. But I need time to process everything. And to recover emotionally and physically.
LEO: Of course.
Terese slips her hand out of Leo's grasp, which doesn't go unnoticed by Piper.
Not long after, Piper finds Paul out the front of the hospital, explaining that Leo's in with Terese and her mum asked her to leave. Paul says they have a lot to talk about, but Piper's convinced her mum isn't going to take Leo back. The same goes for any friendship between Terese and Paul as well.
PAUL: I guess I deserve that. I'm truly sorry if it's the same case for Leo though.
PIPER: Are you? (Off Paul's look) Did you break up with Jane because you're still in love with my mum?
PAUL: I didn't break up with Jane, she broke up with me.
PIPER: Paul you've been here non-stop since the shooting.
PAUL: Well of course I have, I care about your mum.
PIPER: Yeah but it's more than that isn't it? And I'm guessing that Jane figured it out too.
PAUL: (relenting) All right, yes I do love Terese. Part of me always will but she doesn't want me.
Piper keeps her thoughts to herself on that subject, but Mannix walking out of the hospital soon distracts them anyway. Piper's confused as to who he is, but Paul says she's better off not knowing. Paul takes Mannix aside and reveals to him that David's gone to the cops about the drugs he stole for him, so there's no point hanging around. Mannix looks worried, especially when Paul says that the cops will probably be digging up more dirt on Mannix as a result. Paul sneers at Mannix, "you make sure you stay gone this time", as Mannix walks away.
Later, Paul and Leo catch up with David inside and are full of apologies about Mannix hassling him. But Paul says not to worry - he ran into Mannix again before and he's definitely gone for good. This doesn't appear to fill David with any joy; in fact he remains eerily silent as Paul and Leo keep talking.
PAUL: I thought about what you said and you're right, honesty is best. So I'm going to tell the police the location of the body that I thought was Mannix. If they can link it to the Renshaws then they're going to lock them up for good. And if it lands me in trouble, well, so be it.
LEO: Same goes for me.
DAVID: Neither of you have to do anything. (He takes off his lanyard) I confessed to Karl about stealing the painkillers for Mannix. So he has no leverage.
PAUL: What did the board do?
DAVID: I've been suspended pending an investigation.
LEO: No, no, no, I'll talk to the board. Tell them I begged you to give us the painkillers.
PAUL: We will do whatever it takes. David you are not going to lose your career over this.
DAVID: You both have done enough. From now on, I want you to stay out of it.
He walks off, severely disappointed in his family once again.
Garage
Bea's surprised to see Shaun since they were supposed to meet at the Pavilion later for their chat. She starts to pack up the garage for an early knock off, but Shaun looks edgy and says she'll just be wasting her time.
SHAUN: Everything I said about Finn being a good person once was a lie. He's always been a monster, you need to put him behind you and never contact me again.
Shaun makes a hasty exit leaving Bea extremely confused.
