Number 24
The Brennan siblings struggle with the thought of having to tell their mother she might have Huntington's Disease. Aaron typically lacks diplomacy in front of a fragile Chloe, before David offers to speak to Fay if it lessens the burden. Aaron insists he and his siblings should do it, while Chloe suggests going out for a nice breakfast in the morning to discuss it.
Lassiters Hotel
Delaney tells Leo that he's being quiet but he says he's thinking about the Chamber of Commerce Gala tomorrow. She excitedly asks if that will be the first official event they'll attend as a couple but he makes it clear she's not invited; to make it sound less appealing he says he'll only be schmoozing bankers and CEOs. Delaney manipulates sympathy out of him by saying she's worried about her dad's recent jail release. Leo reassures her that he'd be under strict bail conditions, but he concedes that Delaney can come to the Gala after all.
The Waterhole
Fay happily enters the Waterhole, surprised to have another family outing so soon. The Brennans find a table while David talks to Leo at the bar. He mentions that he's not seen Leo much recently to which Leo responds that he's been busy with work and spending time with Delaney. He warns David that the Renshaws have been released from prison, which worries David as he wonders if they'll come after Leo. Leo reassures his brother before heading off to find Delaney outside.
Number 28
Bea walks in to greet Susan who's reading a newspaper at the dining table. They discuss Susan's impending remyelination trial before Bea mentions that Toadie just told her the DPP would be contacting them soon in regards to Finn, so they might need to get their victim impact statements ready. This surprises Susan as Finn isn't even awake, but Bea suggests it might be forward-planning for when the time comes. Bea gets a text from Yashvi who she's offered to help hand out CVs as Amy's not offered her many hours at The Handywoman recently. Susan asks Bea to wish Yashvi luck, while looking distracted by the ongoing Finn situation.
The Waterhole
Delaney bumps into Aaron at the bar and thanks him enthusiastically for allowing her to vent to him the other day about her relationship. He is naturally polite in return before she invites him and David up to her hotel room to hang out with her and Leo. He agrees and she asks him to get David to text Leo later. She exits and Aaron joins his family back at the table. Fay comments on how quiet her children are before they all start talking about the wedding. Fay then suggests going shopping with Chloe for wedding shoes, but Chloe breaks the news once more that she's not going to be attending.
MARK: Mum, Chloe's going to Peru instead. We spoke about this yesterday?
FAY: Ah yes, of course. But, you know you really shouldn't miss your brother's wedding for a holiday.
Fay continues to demonstrate her sadness about Chloe missing the wedding, then knocks over a glass of water. She notices her children acting strangely which prompts Chloe to ask her to come for a walk, as she has something important to tell her.
Lassiters Park
Chloe tells her mother that she received bad news after some medical trials she took part in abroad.
CHLOE: I have the gene for a degenerative condition called Huntington's Disease. At some point in the future I'll start to lose control of my cognitive and physical functions. My brain and body will stop working properly.
Fay seems in denial but Chloe tells her that she's been re-tested so the diagnosis is conclusive. She tells her mother that she too has been showing symptoms, so she ought to get tested. Fay is overwhelmed and takes a moment to let the revelation sink in.
Lassiters Park
Fay is upset that Chloe's been going through everything alone. She wishes she could have been looking after her, but Chloe tells her she needs to focus on herself. She admits that she's noticed specific symptoms of the condition, such as her knocking over a glass, forgetting two conversations and difficulty swallowing her food. Fay is a bit offended that they've all been watching her, saying that she might be a bit clumsier and more forgetful but she's getting older; it doesn't mean there's necessarily anything wrong with her. Chloe insists on her getting tested but Fay is resistant, obviously not wanting to face the situation. She gets angry with Chloe's insistence and storms off.
The Flametree
Susan and Shaun meet at the Flametree. He says he was pleased to hear that her case had been settled but was surprised to hear from her all the same. She admits that the reason she got in contact with him was because she had to write a victim impact statement about Finn but couldn't stop thinking about his kidnap in Colombia and how that affected him. Shaun says he was hoping Susan might want to know more about Finn's past; he presents her with a letter that Finn wrote to his mother while in captivity. It was given to Shaun to deliver when he was released. It remains unopened.
SHAUN: I thought if you really wanted to know what my brother was like back then; this was really a way he could tell you himself.
Lassiters Hotel
Delaney welcomes Aaron and David into her hotel room to hang out with her and Leo. She's ordered pastries up to the room. Aaron asks what her career plans are.
DELANEY: (giggles) I've mostly been hanging out with mum in Majorca since I finished school.
Delaney invites Aaron and David to go to a festival in Sydney with her and Leo over the weekend, but they politely decline. Delaney takes it in her stride, happy to spend alone time with her new 'boyfriend'.
The Flametree
Susan wipes away tears after reading Finn's pleading letter.
SUSAN: And your mum had no contact with Finn after the kidnapping.
SHAUN: Not since dad's heart attack. Which she also blamed on Finn.
Shaun says the rejection caused Finn to create a new life away from his family.
SUSAN: A life of vengeance.
Shaun fully admits that Finn's actions have been unforgivable, but he just wants Susan to know why this toxic behavior began. As they talk, Bea and Yashvi walk in. Yashvi finds the manager to give her CV to, while Bea introduces herself to Shaun. When she realizes he's Finn's brother, she is instantly appalled.
Lassiters Hotel
Delaney and Aaron head off for a workout together. She elaborately kisses Leo before departing, which causes David to question the authenticity of their relationship when she's gone. He says he can tell Leo's not that into her and it's not fair to string her along. Leo continues to deny his true lack of feelings but David is insistent that throwing his relationship with Terese away seems strange.
The Flametree
Bea interrogates Susan about why she's met up with Shaun. Susan says she has an unexplainable urge to understand Finn's backstory. As things get heated Shaun interrupts, saying he recognizes Bea from the paper. Susan tells Bea that she asked Shaun to meet up, not the other way around. Shaun leaves awkwardly, telling Susan he'll be in the area if she wants to contact him.
BEA: Does Karl know that you're here?
SUSAN: No, no. And please don't tell him. I just need some more time to try and work this out.
Bea looks unwillingly sympathetic.
Lassiters Park
Chloe approaches her mother who's sitting patiently in the park. She reaches for her mother's hand.
FAY: It's been getting worse this past month. Tyler keeps telling me I forget things. And David's right. Getting through a meal isn't as easy as it should be.
Fay remains more concerned about her daughter.
FAY: I'm so sorry I've done this to you.
CHLOE: You didn't do anything to me, this is not your fault. We'll get through this, I promise.
They hug emotionally.
Number 24
Mark and Aaron wait for Fay and Chloe to return home. David enters. Mother and daughter soon arrive home and Fay asks David if he can arrange for her to be officially tested.
FAY: I've had these symptoms for a few months now, so how much time do I have before the inevitable?
DAVID: If it is confirmed that you do have Huntington's, based on your symptoms you may have as many as 15 years, or as few as 5.
Fay is in complete shock.
Number 24
Elly comes home to find Chloe crying at the dining table. She does her best to comfort her, but Chloe remains upset. They hug. Chloe admits that she's terrified about what's to come.
CHLOE: The specialist said it happens earlier in each generation, so I won't have until my 50s.
Ramsay Street
Leo walks up to Number 22 and stares at Terese's house. He receives a text.
Lassiters Hotel
Leo rushes into Delaney's hotel room wondering what's wrong.
DELANEY: I missed you.
Leo says she can't just tell him there's an emergency because of something trivial like that. She dismisses his concerns, saying she's been thinking and they should find an apartment together. He shuts down the idea immediately and the hostility in the conversation begins to escalate. She starts to touch him but he tells her to get off him. The pressure becomes too much and his true feelings start pouring out.
LEO: Pretending to love someone is not being in a relationship.
DELANEY: I'm not pretending.
Leo stands up.
LEO: I can't do this anymore. Look, I'll protect you from your dad. But, I'm not gonna pretend to love you.
DELANEY: You don't know what you're saying.
LEO: Yes, I do. I love Terese! And nothing you do is going to change that. This is over.
Delaney looks upset.
